Ryan Gosling arrives to LA set to reshoot scenes for ultra-violent ‘Gangster Squad’

Here are some new photos of Ryan Gosling in LA yesterday. He was back on the set of Gangster Squad, which supposedly wrapped months ago. After the Colorado tragedy at the midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises however, Warner Brothers decided to pull their existing trailers and spend money on reshoots. Before today, I thought the reshoots were just because Gangster Squad was such a violent film, but as it turns out, the studio is demanding that a certain scene be cut from the film. The scene? Some of the “gangsters” spraying machine gun fire into a crowded movie theater from behind the screen. So… yeah. I think that’s a good call by Warner Bros. The film’s release has also been pushed back from September to next January. Gosling is playing real-life gangster Mickey Cohen, and the film also features Emma Stone, Sean Penn, Anthony Mackie and Josh Brolin.

Gosling has definitely been more and more low-key lately. It’s a rare occasion when we get new photos of him, even though it feels like we’re talking about him all the time – probably because his girlfriend, Eva Mendes, gets pap’d all the time. Incidentally, both Ryan and Eva Mendes are expected at the Toronto Film Festival in a few weeks. They’re debuting their film – the film where they fell in love! – at TIFF. The film is The Place Beyond the Pines. Will Ryan and Eva walk the red carpet together?! Will they announce their engagement/impending babyhood? Will they have sex in front of the international media on the red carpet?!?!

PS… Ryan looks like he gives great hugs. I wouldn’t mind a Goshug.

Glad the studio is being respectful and reshooting, plus more of a chance to see gosling in a fedora. Yum!

    In before the haters.

I want more than just a hug from the Gos. Love him. I seriously doubt he will pose with Eva. They will act like they don’t know each other at the TIFF.

I’m sad the movie has been pushed back to next year, but I definitely understand the need for a reshoot. Good call WB.

Can’t wait to see this movie even though the trailers look rather cheesy.

    • derpy says:

The thing that threw me off the trailer for the movie was Sean Penn’s gangster accent. >.< but other than that I think it looks pretty good.

Can’t explain but I can’t imagine them at the carpet as a couple. It just seems…empty? Two of them together. I don’t get the vibe of a couple in love or even the hot for each other couple. It’s more of a “look Clooney has a mew red carpet wife” vibe… Why do they look boring?

I love how having differing opinions on someone or something makes a person a “hater” these days. Really? So we should all drink the Kool Aid then?

As for Gosling, I used to be a huge fan of his acting but he’s overexposed and people have turned him into a caricature with the memes and now a coloring book. Unfortunately, it’s hard to take him serious anymore.

    • shontay says:

Is this directed at me? I didn’t provide my definition of a hater, but no, for me it is not someone who has a different opinion.

    • Ranunculus says:

Well, it’s not that he is completely innocent regarding the overexposure.
He could have said no to those photo ops with EM that started all the crazy hype about him. It wouldn’t surprise me if those “breaking up a fight in NY” and “strumming his guitar on the side walk” photo’s were staged. I like him as an actor and hope “Pines” will be a good movie, but other than that he seems very
      dumb and phoney to me.

      • anna says:

Yes, he seems not too bright. Neither does Eva. I think they are both just puppets of the multi million dollar Hollywood machine.

  6. ORLY says:

Rachael McAdams will also be at TIFF. I wonder if there will be any awkward run ins.

    • Danielle says:

Considering they’re still friends and share mutual friends I don’t think it will be awkward for them two, but throw the new significant others into the mix, Michael Sheen and Eva Mendes and then perhaps we have recipe for awkward.

    • kennedy says:

Rachel McAdams – the lead in 2 acclaimed filmmakers films at TIFF… Eva Mendes – a minor supporting role in a film with people who are way too talented to be in her vicinity (minus Cooper).

Once the film hits theaters THEN will the showmance be over? I just do. not. buy them as a couple.

Still don’t get it. Not sexy.

I have already seen an advance screening of the movie, and yes, it’s pretty violent, and yes, there is a pivotal scene where they shoot from behind the screen at Grauman’s Chinese Theater. I’m glad I got to see the original version before it gets changed, I wonder if it’ll be on the dvd? and yes, it should be changed in the wake of Aurora. The movie was good, good over-the-top acting (but that was on purpose), handsome and dapper men, gorgeous ladies (well, mostly just Emma). Overall it was almost like a film noir, that style of movie and acting, deliberate tribute. Which would def. make sense in the context of the movie. Oh also, if you live in LA, you can def tell it was actually filmed here.

I have to say- I completely disagree with WB decision to reshoot a PIVOTAL scene in the film. By doing the reshoots and completely changing a PIVOTAL scene in the film, they are basically letting one murderous asshole win. The delay was the right movie and bravo to the studio for forgoing a possible Oscar run (although it still may be eligible depending on whether they screen the film for the Academy in Dec/early January), but I just can’t agree with the decision to reshoot the theater scene. Look, we will be almost 6+ months removed from the terrible, horrible events of that July evening by the time this film comes out and while there is NOTHING that will ever make up for the loss of lives and trauma from that night- by doing these reshoots and changing a PIVOTAL scene, the studio would be allowing that lunatic to have a much more corrosive effect on their film. I’m all for preserving the artistic integrity of the film… and I think we are adult enough to handle difficult scenes.

I agree that pushing back the movie’s release was a good move. I’m not sure about how important that scene is/was but yes, I disagree with the reshooting.

Ryan doesn’t really do it for me anymore. I still think he’s a great actor, but I can’t ignore the Mendes stench on him. And he’s become kind of a joke. He didn’t have to agree to all those stupid photo ops with her. It’s obvious the Disneyland and Paris photos were staged. The others were probably Mendes’ people calling the paps as it’s her way of telling the world she’s still with Ryan. Every time there’s break up rumours, a photo op happens shortly after. Either Eva with Ryan’s dog, or Ryan himself. Very pathetic. He’s gone Hollywood now, and that makes him less attractive to me. You can hear crickets chirping in his fan forums. Whatever he is doing is clearly not working.

Blue Valentine worked; Crazy Stupid Love worked, and so did Drive. The guy is cool. I never saw the appeal until I watched these films.

Sean Penn is playing Mickey Cohen, Ryan is playing one of the cops that are after him and his group…

a little research before writing 😉

I still like Gosling in spite of the overexposure. He is one of the best actors at the moment, he has a great body of work for his age regarding film and acting quality. I do agree, though, that those pictures in Paris were completely ridiculous (in which he looked extremely uncomfortable). He might not be the brightest person on Earth, but his interviews are funny and spontaneous enough to be worth watching and he is an amazing actor without any professional training. He is an actor, not a researcher. Eva Mendes… well, that is his personal business. She surely gives him something he likes. And, I prefer to see an actor I like with an older woman, even with the reputation of being a bitch, than with some Gossip Girl actress. I think he and Rooney Mara would look amazing together though. I find her sort of the “female Gosling.”
