Ben Affleck has a new interview and profile in GQ Magazine as part of their “Men of The Year” December issue. We’ve already seen Channing Tatum and pantsless Rihanna’s profiles, and now we’re on to Ben. It’s a lot of the same from this guy, frankly. To be fair, he did this interview around the time he was ramping up promotion for Argo a few weeks back. He was telling the same story to multiple outlets in slightly different ways. He has a personal narrative that he needs to talk about and promote as part of his Oscar bid. A lot of actors do this with their press, but with Ben I’m kind of rolling my eyes at him. I’d like to hear him switch it up a little.
On how the press vilified him around 2003 and 2004
“What was that guy’s name who killed his wife and dumped her off the side of a boat? Peterson. I remember thinking he actually gets slightly better treatment than I do in the press. At least they had to say ‘alleged killer.’ Unfortunately there’s an aspect of that that’s like one of those fights you see on YouTube where one of them falls down and then a bunch of people who were standing around come over and kick the person. They don’t know them, they have no involvement in the fight, but they recognize a moment that they can get a free shot in, and for some people it’s just too much to resist. And that was definitely me at that point. I was the guy. I was the designated person to loathe.“The amount of venom—I must have touched some specific little place in the consciousness. I don’t believe I didn’t deserve any negative judgment for anything, but it was just way out of whack. People decided that I was the frat guy, even though I’ve never been inside a fraternity, or the guy who beat them up at school, even though that wasn’t me at all.
“The most pernicious illusion, myth, was that this is something that this guy wants, ‘He’s wanting this much coverage.’ That’s the most unappealing thing that you can say about somebody. And I knew how disastrous it was. It was the last thing I wanted, and I could tell it was damaging me, and I tried to get away from it, but there was still this idea: This is what this guy wants, he’s a shallow guy, a camera whore or whatever. And there was no convincing people that that wasn’t the case.
“There were ways I did contribute to it, still kind of naively. Like these car dealerships would often say, ‘Hey, do you want to drive around a car? Go take it as long as you like. You can drive this Rolls-Royce for nothing, for free.’ The Boston kid in me thought, ‘This is great! What a deal! I can just drive this car around. Let my friends drive it.’ But then this image of a young guy in a Rolls-Royce was very off-putting to people. Probably be off-putting to me now if I saw it. And I didn’t quite have the wherewithal to be smart about that at the time.”
On his kids
“There’s going to be three maniacs screaming and running around the house. But it’s sweet, and washes away all the other stuff.”On his wife
“It was a really, really good thing that happened to me around the time that it was nice to have something good happen. And she’s just a great woman and a great friend. She has such wise and certain stewardship over these three characters that I love so much.”On his life now
“I’m in a place where I feel a bit more like I felt after Good Will Hunting, but with a sort of added perspective. I feel like I’ve gone round a loop once. And for this lap, it’s more measured. I’m not the most loathsome man in the world. I’ve dropped to number nine.”
OH Ben, where to start? You know, I still like him! I really like this guy and I’ve heard that Argo is awesome. (I haven’t seen it and keep meaning to, my time is limited as a mom and it’s hard for me to get two hours outside of the house to watch an adult movie. It’s been over six months since I’ve seen something in the theater.)
BUT – Ben knows what he did to get so roundly criticized. He knows it. It wasn’t one thing like driving around in a free luxury car – it was caressing J.Lo’s ass in that annoying video, it was buying her a ginormous pink diamond ring, it was giving interviews with her at home as if they were an old married couple. It was starring as the lead in some awful action movies and multiple cringe-worthy romcoms. As Kaiser wrote to me it’s “like someone held a gun to his head and forced him to take 8-digit paychecks for total crap movies.” Yet he’s still talking about his victimhood at the time as if he barely contributed to it and it was the worst thing ever. I’m still rooting for him, and I still find him to be a hot dad and a devoted father. I don’t see him as a devoted husband, particularly in the way he continues to describe his wife as someone who helped him out and is a great mom. Maybe that’s Ben’s problem – he’s just too transparent. When he was on top of the world he acted like it, and then the press did their part to knock him down. He still doesn’t get it.

DUDE!!! Have several seats! LMAO
…he looks like Scott Peterson too!
I think he looks more like Ben le Pew.
Bwah. That’s perfect.
He needs to stop. Nothing will erase the craziness that he actively participated in during the Bennifer years. He needs to be a man & stop shifting blame to everyone else.
THANKYOU.
Sit your tired ass down Ben Affleck.
Yep. Park it.
Shut your privileged pie hole.
Enough with the “Woe is me” act. You sucked as an actor back then (and still aren’t very good, imo) and acted like a douche. You deserved the criticism.
And it’s quite insensitive to the memory of Laci, her unborn child and her family to compare yourself to her murderer.
This!! Plus 1.
He is such a damned crybaby, and an asshole to boot.
I like him less every time he opens his mouth.
He was biscuit-ized.
He’s really milking his past with J-Lo for whatever it is he’s doing. I dont recall him bringing her up so much in past interviews.
Something so phony about him and his family man status, sorry dont buy it. I think his wife will stay with him no matter what he does since he’s pretty much her only claim to fame these days.
Yeah. I’m pretty sure he cheated with Whitney Cummings at the GQ event just the other night. He’s a piggy.
Receipts?
Wow – spill! what evidence?
Her stylist is a friend of mine for a long time, and the cousin of my ex bf. I went all squee when she got Whitney as a client (earlier this year) because I love her standup, and she texted me and a couple others all “OMFG” because she had to go upstairs in the hotel and clean Whit up before she returned to the party. So yeah. In the middle of the party, which went pretty late I guess. Gross.
Sooo…no evidence. She has a non-disclosure contract but she is kind of new to the game (Whit is her biggest celeb so far, before that it was “run-of-the-mill rich ladies” lol). I never knew her to be a liar, so that’s why I say “pretty sure.”
I think he and J.Garner have an arrangement, though…not AS bad but ugh.
Hi, Sweet Dee. While your story is really interesting (and it’s what we’re all here for, after all!), I’m just wondering whether you should remove some of the details to protect your friend, the stylist…? Feel free to ignore this unsolicited advice 🙂
Your story confirms this rumor:
http://www.crazydaysandnights.net/2012/11/blind-item-1_14.html?showComment=1353021270776#c3240343791010992251
@Sweet Dee: I just visited the CDAN website and Frivolity mentioned and linked your comment. I hope your friend doesn´t get into trouble because of this(non-disclosure contract).
Funny story, but I agree that you should change or ask to delete your last comment, otherwise your friend is going to be in trouble, if it’s not already :-S.
And his Oscar campaign hits its first snag. For heaven’s sake…
Bwahahahaha!!! For realz…he’s blowing it alright.
Ok, jackass interview…cry me a river, now hear he’s screwing around on his wife, Jennifer? From reading the thread just above, I don’t think he’s too damn discreet, either.
Ben Affleck….he’s a blowhard. Kiss that Oscar goodbye, Ben!
So winning an Oscar requires a political style PR campaign now does it? As oppossed to, oh I don’t know, awarding Oscars based on the merit of the work? Yet another reason why the Oscars are just bubblegum for the brain. Don’t get me wrong there’s nothing wrong with bubblegum for the brain, just as long as you don’t try to me it’s filet mignon.
Just another reason to dislike this man even more. “What was that guy’s name who killed his wife and dumped her off the side of a boat? Peterson. I remember thinking he actually gets slightly better treatment than I do in the press.” “Insensitive” is nicest thing I can think about HIS comment. Arrghhh!
^^ THIS! Actually, I’m going to take it a bit further and write that his comments regarding murderer Scott Peterson are f-cking disgusting and I hope he apologizes. On behalf of Laci Peterson and her long-suffering family, I am literally cringing over this asinine comment and I feel like apologizing for him. STFU Affleck, you greasy orange piece of sh-t.
Okay, sorry, rant over.
Mimi…Amen! I was trying to be calm, because I don’t want to waste my time going off the deep edge on some f*ucking sorry ass excuse for a man who plays make believe for a living comparing his “treatment” to somebody who is as sick and twisted as Peterson is unless it is right to his face!
I’m just going to say that I remember Laci (and her unborn son’s) case, & I prayed so hard for them. And that murdersome dick was arrested not more than 30 minutes away from where I lived at the time.
I think you’re being extremely generous in describing his comment as insensitive, and I commend you on your restraint.
I live about three hours north of Modesto, and Laci was all over the news.
I cried so hard when she was found.
For Asslick…I mean Affleck to compare his situation to this case is disgusting.
I’m with you, I can’t believe he said this. He’s completely out of touch with the heart of California. Even if his comment were about another murderer this comment is completely insensitive. This guy has had a blessed life and has nothing to complain about. My hand itches to slap him and I’m not an aggressive person.
What in the..?.?
Michael Jackson has dealt with way worse things and yet he kept his head up… Even dead the press won’t give his name a rest.
And you sir come up here because of a lame couple of years of your life and you’re still hung up on it and a famous ex… Get over yourself you self involved douche! Just be a good director will you? (Argo was good indeed)
I don’t know how Michael Jackson fits into all of this, but okay. I wouldn’t say he kept his head up and dealt with all the crap slung his way AT ALL. He tried to drown all that out with drugs…LOTS AND LOTS of drugs, if you’ll recall.
Never implied he was a perfect role model, don’t be confused now, that he was a wacko is another thing, it was obvious he had mental issues and other drug problems. I’m talking about all the allegations against him for years and years on how his name got dragged through the mud, the media and all saying he was a child molester etc. He had awkward and questionable moments for sure, yet he wasn’t bringing the past out in the press nor pimping his kids out eh… As much as he had his demons, my point is he could’ve just jump off a bridge or end it all up with a bottle of pills, with all the sometimes exaggerated nasty stories the media and even his family was making up, yet he held up… Now that Ben comes up and whines about a past highly publicized romance that according to him got worse treatment that a murderer, as if it was the end of his name… I mean it’s beyond my understanding here..
“end it all up with a bottle of pills”
Umm. That’s almost EXACTLY what he did.
Still missing the point I see, and taking one bit of a sentence gives it an entire different meaning.
MJ died because he was a drug addict (apparently it started a while ago but increased with his surgical changes and the infamous Pepsi incident etc.) he didn’t killed himself because of the media vilifying him of being a child molester and other freak, if so he could’ve done it ages ago and end it all straight away, there is no “almost EXACTLY” here, there is a difference. I’m not talking about his drugs antics, I’m talking about how the media was merciless towards him for years and years and still he managed to keep his name relevant, good like bad, and not forgetting artistically wise.
Ben did what dating JLo for a couple of years or so and he keeps bringing it up as if it was just as bad as the treatment MJ had (which I chose as another example besides the murderer) so he better take his responsibility and take a seat.
This makes me give big props to Jennifer Aniston, who never complains about the press in general, just specific people/topics (ie: perez hilton, her pregnancy status)….
If you’re in the hollywood game, expect to be vilified and glorified now and then.
Why would Jennifer Aniston complain about the press? 99% of the time, press is on her side and portraying her as an “American sweetheart”.
Jennifer Aniston is the WORST about complaining- she actually accosted Perez Hilton in a parking garage to complain- THAT is how bizarre & desperate she is. She also complained that Kimberley Stewart called her homely- the list goes on & on. She even CREATED a triangle* with Jolie/Pitt that she whines about to this day- ugh. As far as Ben goes, I think JLo had a great impact on his life and Ben seems to want the world to know about it. I’d be ticked if I was Jen G, though. I guess she’s probably used to it.
—-
*She got left. There is/was no triangle with Pitt; it looks like she had a triangle with Heidi Bivens, though)
To be fair I think Ben had it worse than most males. Its nothing in comparison to the ladies though. Aniston has had it pretty bad. Her, Jolie (in print media), Beyonce, Kristen Stewart.
I hate that kind of piling on. People online are like stupid lemmings, if one blogger doesnt like someone everyone suddenly chimes in. Its like the internet is one big highschool where no one thinks for themselves. And the hate is always so disprortionate, like they pile all the bitterness from their lives and shove it onto whichever random celebrity its ok to hate. You know yourselves.
sorry i’m an irrational goop hater and am sure i annoy the hell out of anyone that likes her.
that being said, ben affleck is gwyneth paltrow with a p-nis.
Great, great point!!!
I was kinda scared to mention it, but one of the first things that came to my mind when I saw the headline: Ok, he’s a whiny baby, especially bc he was in J. Lo’s video, I mean all over the place with her (and then threw her under the bus)-the women get it much, much worse, but when Stewart cries about it, she’s try hard and famew*ore. The things written about Jolie were/are awful: FFS, the papers implied Down syndrome for one child, accused her of turning one child into a lesbian(IDK why being a lesbian is such a tragedy, but anyway, come on), made racist comments about them (Handler)… what should she do??? What should she say???
They really were an incredibly annoying couple. Ben almost messed up his career completely thanks to her. I laughed so hard when they broke up. And I was relieved too. JLo has this Elizabeth Taylor fantasy that all these loose, superficial airheads seem to have, like Kim Kardashian and Lohan, but I easily see JLo actually remarrying tons of times through her entire life.
Yes they were.
I always thought they were a contract/fake couple?? Nothing about them seemed to match. All that relationship did was get them into the press.
What I would find hysterical is if he winds up doing a Scott Peterson story – directing or acting.
I still would hit it, so he hates being married to a boring woman, who cares??? There are worse crimes like killing your pregnant wife and running away with your mistress.
@celebitchy – Argo was great!
I’m curious, Victoria1. What crimes do you consider worse than murdering your pregnant wife on the way home from a Lamaze class by shooting her in the stomach and letting her bleed out in the car before you call the cops? And remember, you’re the one who brought it up, honey.
She said “worse crimes LIKE” not “worse crimes THAN,” Elizabeth. Take a moment to read thoroughly before jumping off the deep end, HONEY.
Ok honey Elizabeth re-read what I wrote and calm down
@jen thank you.
My apologies, Victoria. I can’t read today. No really, I see what you’re saying and I agree. Total misread by me.
I’m willing to bet Lacey and Connor have no more F’s to give this douchbag. Not bad enough he has to use his own wife and children as photo op props he has to use Lacey and Connor to front his Oscar campaign? That is low buddy.
Here here Lori!
Amen to that, Lori!
This is the strangest comment feed I’ve read in a while, folks.
Beyond strange. I don’t care if Ben massaged J-Lo’s butt on a boat. Lots of dudes have had a round with J-Lo. I just want Ben to stop talking about Blake and J-Lo and focus on his children. Blake and J-Lo are not the mother of his children..therefore..STFU.
I would hope he didn’t mean it that way, but it’s very insensitive to the families of the victims of that terrible case.
I don’t remember him being THAT criticized. He acted like a douche, and people commented on it. He’s the one who keeps bringing it up now, and I don’t know why. His career has turned around and he’s doing great work, and his family is happy and healthy. Enjoy that while you can and stop focusing on how hard life was when you got everything handed to you and went overboard.
He was adored here in Vegas as treating the locals well and handing out large tips. The opposite was true when he came here with J Lo and her family. Then they ran around like entitled, spoiled brats. He is every bit as guilty.
Argo was great…but Ben’s “acting” was the worst part of the movie.
I agree. Ben is a talented director but a weak actor. I wish another actor had played the lead in Argo and The Town.
oh, i think he has a very boston type of humor-or maybe b/c he comes from the same generation that I do-and it is pre-PC.
for god sake that scott peterson thing, while exagerrated, is funny.
He’s being….irreverent.
i dont think that is insensitive.
however, he absolutely lamely actslike HE is a victim and shifts the blame and seems to have no perspective.
Instead he would just say ‘meh, i was young, the paps thought i wanted this image/attention; i did not and it took me awhile to bounce back’.
i do think there was a bit too much negative towards him-=i mean, he is standard answer for blind items-lol.
maybe he is one actor who could not buy off the paps to not show their indiscretions?
I get the feeling he is being honest about n ot wanting/liking the famewhore attention. But…..always the but-he will grudgingly do it for his career, for sure. I think he hates it-every pic looks like he is ashamed of himself for selling his soul/selling out.
he’s still hot,IMO.
yea, not exactly a great husband….
but who knows-many a marriage have lasted b/c of an ‘agreement’ to have a ‘family’ together. it’s their project and it works for them.
I think the full article provides a little more context. From these quotes I was expecting a lot more “poor, misunderstood me” in the article, but I didn’t get that vibe. I think he just wants to be judged on his work these days and less on his personal life. Whatever else you can say about him, you can’t deny he’s a good filmmaker. The Town and Argo were phenomenal movies. I didn’t like Gone Baby Gone, but that’s only because it’s one of my favorite books and the way they wrote Angie in the movie pissed me off – they totally destroyed all the awesome stuff about her in the movie so she wasn’t as central to Casey Affleck’s Patrick as she is in Lehane’s book.
I just think it’s gross that interviewers keep bringing up J.Lo. That was a long time ago, guy’s gotten married and had 3 kids in that time. I’m sure he’d rather talk about anything else than that.
Ugh, he needs to stop talking already. I don’t believe for a second that he didn’t know exactly what he was doing during the whole J-Lo phase. It wasn’t like he was some naive Hollywood newbie then.
He’s clearly talented as a director, but if he keeps whining in interviews like he has been, he’s not exactly going to change people’s minds about being unlikeable.
ugh, shut up
I guess he forgets the part about getting caught receiving a BJ from a stripper in the VIP room at Brandi’s, the upscale gentlemen’s club in Vancouver.
Ugh! He is so sleazy! Strippers are the reason he and Goop broke up too..
Does Jennifer iron that crease in his jeans? But I still think he’s hot and I forgive him for Lopez.
WTH is he babbling about?? Say it Ben “JLO is what happened” Just say it!
Hi everyone! Long time reader, first time commenter. I wish I could feel sorry for Ben Affleck but I don’t. Everything about him comes off as superficial and insincere. I think part of the reason he’s been vilified is because people aren’t stupid and can see through his playing the media nonsense. I have a real problem with him. He just comes off as this self absorbed and self serving a-hole in my book. He needs a dose of humble pie! Him and J.Lo were a media match made in heaven and I think they were perfect for each other. Self-absorbed a-holes need to stick together!
He is so transparent when he talks about his wife and not in a good way. He sounds (again) like it is killing him to say something nice about her – i.e. his marriage is “a really, really good thing that happened to me around the time that it was nice to have something good happen”. OMG. He sounds like he’s talking about getting a good parking spot, not the woman he is supposed to love.
As for her “certain stewardship over these three characters that I love so much”? “Stewardship”? “Really really good thing”? This is his family. What an egomaniac!
Be careful about saying anything bad about Ben and Jen Garner in the comments or you may be crucified for it.
But I agree. The way these comments are said, I think it makes Ben come across as resentful. Then again, I guess I figure if the rumors are true about Jennifer Garner playing a game of block the goalie with him, he may have a reason to be. Not that I have any sympathy for him as he brought it upon himself. I think Jen fights to create this media image of a happy family and Ben is trying to passive aggressively sabotage her efforts.
At the same time I really think he’s been “Deppmatized,” I think the public is willing to give him a 2nd chance BECAUSE the non-tabloid media sees him as a man who has a family and has toned down his wild ways. I think it’s fake and contrived BS no matter how much The Mommy Brigade on here wants to believe otherwise. I really think Ben is stuck with her, if he leaves and goes back to doing what he really wants to do -which is bang chicks, do drugs and gamble- his career will be over.
Aagree, agree, agree-except that I think he’s not stuck with her: he chose her as the perfect little wife for his Oscar-image. The image saved his career-if it weren’t for those dimples he wouldn’t get a shot as a director and so on. Marriage was just a way to get him back in the game, the same way all this happy-go-lucky family pics are just a way to get him an Oscar.
He’s…not in love with her at all, is he? I think he respects her as a co-parent, but there is no romance or affection there at all. Maybe that is enough for her, to have as husband a good father and nothing else, but it would eat at me slowly if that was my life.
I completely agree with LeeLoo and even thoughh I love Ben to death, I think they are both playing the media game of portraying the one big happy family.
Be it the press or interviewer that keeps bringing up JLO, he doesn’t decline to talk about her. I think he is still in love with her. He does sound resentful and almost as if he wouldn’t care if the truth was exposed. But dude show some respect to your wife even if your marriage is a farce. You made the decision to marry her. If you feel like you are being crucified in the press it’s mainly because of your actions and the words that come out of your mouth.
J. Garner isn’t innocent in all of this either. She left Vartan for a guy with a better career. She wanted to marry up, not down. Also didn’t she get pregnant soon after they started dating.
Sometimes you get what you asked for.
But even though Ben comes off as a douche; I still adore the man; that hasn’t changed but STFU already.
On a lighter note he watches YouTube…. Score
She was married to Scott Foley too. She left him high and dry the moment her career took off.
+ 1
Ben sure likes to bring up his JLO days a lot doesn’t he? I’m not sure why exactly but I always get a serious cheater vibe off him.
I get the feeling that he and Jen Garner are very passive-aggressive in their marital communication. He mentions J-Lo to get his wife angry and then when she gets angry with him, he plays the victim. Rinse, repeat. Rinse, repeat.
@Skuddles, who wrote: “Ben sure likes to bring up his JLO days a lot doesn’t he? I’m not sure why exactly but I always get a serious cheater vibe off him.”
That’s because he ‘is’ a serious cheater.
Do you remember reading about his younger brother Casey Affleck getting a sexual harassment suit brought against him for firing actresses who wouldn’t ‘Lewinsky’ him and other things to keep their jobs?
http://movies.msn.com/movies/article.aspx?news=513605
I think Casey learned that womanizing behavior from big brother Ben.
Simply put:He’s still in love with JLO.
I think he settled for the good girl and is bored and not happy but reached a state of resignation. If it wasn´t for his cheating and her turning a blind eye they wouldn´t be together anymore.
“I’m in a place where I feel a bit more like I felt after Good Will Hunting, but with a sort of added perspective.”
Really? I don’t see any added perspective. He’s bitter and insensitive. Much as I like him as a director and Casey as an actor, I can’t stand both the Affleck brothers. It’s irrational but their faces scream docuhe, for me at least. These two are the only two celebrities who bring out the irrational side in me. He sounds like a d-ck. He needs to get over himself and his past. People within his fraternity have dealt with situations and media reactions far worse than he did. Just give him the Oscar. He’ll STFU and make some good movies instead.
I think Wil Wheaton’s #1 rule of gaming applies to how to have a long-lasting career in Hollywood: “Don’t be a d*ck.”
I don’t want to reward this guy for being a d*ck. I honestly think he is shooting himself in the foot and making everyone realize why we stopped caring about him in the first place.
Love me some Wil Wheaton!
Lol…Wil Wheaton, yes. Don’t be a d-ck!
He kinda reminds me of Franco. He is so desperate that we all share his perception of himself as the intelligent, talented, great actor and director.
From the same article:
“It was only two years [after Good Will Hunting] I had a conversation with a girl in the business, she said something along the lines of, ‘I thought you were the dim-witted friend—you’re pretty bright.’ I was shocked. I had this moment of profound reflection: Does everybody think this about me?”
He thinks he didn´t do anything wrong, we did him wrong, he is such a whiner “uuh people think I´m stupid, think that I´m a famewhoring douchebag because I appear in my gf´s music video stroking her ass on yacht.” He was a grown man, years in this industry but he is the victim of the media and being badmouthed. Ugh I hope Anderson wins for The Master, I want to see his face when he loses.
Why is he still talking about JLo??? I don’t see him very connected to jennifer garner, nor his kids…I think marrying her was a save my career move… He misses JLo & can’t understand why the press hates them together…
Jennifer Garner must be the dumbest girl around. She left Michael Vartan for this?
She left her first husband (Scott Foley) for Vartan when her career took over in Alias. Then, she left Vartan for Affleck.
True. Jennifer was all about landed the big fish. However, she married a man who is not in love with her and doesn’lt seem to respect or like her all that much!
She bet it all and received poor returns…
He’s done some very good work directing. It’s hard to forget JLo when everybody keeps referring to it & criticizing him for behavior from years past. He’s been married for how many years? Why do people even ask him about stuff that happened before he got married & had 3 kids?
Why do people ask Angelina Jolie every time about “the vials of blood”? Ben has it easier than many women in the business.
Yeah, except HE said they still communicate in one of his last interviews. And he is the one complaining about his J. Lo days.
Stupid, self-centered douche. I’ll cringe so hard if he wins another Oscar.
Oh please…J-LO is so yesterday. I have always liked Ben and I do believe the Boston in him tells it like he is feeling…even if it is just in that moment. I like that he thinks of Jen as friend because without friendship marriage will not last. And they have a beautiful family together too. I believe he knows he’s got it good. I hope he wins an Oscar for Argo because it was that good. And all men should age as well as he is. But believe me they don’t.
He really needs to think about how he words things. Because he’d be so much better off if he said, “Hey, I wouldn’t do it that way today. Looking back, I cringe, too.”
The Scott Peterson comment is just bad, bad, bad. If he’d said, “I’ve seen murderers get better press,” that would be hyperbole, but not distasteful.
J-Lo really was his undoing. When I saw that video he was in with her, it was like a commercial for the two of them living the good life with her butt. He was smug like the cat who ate the canary. I remember thinking that he would regret that video if they broke up. And he did seem like an entitled frat boy in it. He was clearly in love with J-Lo’s booty and he wanted everyone to know. He seems to have recovered, but he did that to himself.
Pearl Harbour was his undoing
And who can forget Amargeddon? Oh that’s right–everybody
That was a stupid thing to say publically. The murder of lacey peterson and her child should not be taken lightly or made fun of by BEN AFFLECK. A$$hole
The hair on the GQ cover is hard to understand.
Thank You! That man has the sketchest hairline evah! Any time I see him on screen I have to force my eyes away ~ I get so distracted trying to see the outlines of the hairpiece.
Also, he is a douche.
Ugh, I can’t even read the interview. I know him (not well) thru my ex who was from Boston and worked in the biz… he’s a smart, talented guy so I don’t begrudge him any whining about flack he’s gotten in that department. But I wish he would shut up and stop doing press in a bid to be sympathetic. If he would just keep his head down and stay focused on his adorable family and continuing the strong body of work he started with Gone Baby Gone and The Town he’d be rewarded for it!!
First off, he does nothing for me. He’s as bland as vanilla ice cream. Second, whenever he dexcribes his wife, he sounds like he’s talking about a business partner. He doesn’t sound like a husband describing the woman he loves and cherishes. I don’t think he really enjoys being married but he doesn’t have anything better to do.
Have several seats, Floating Head.
What a moron. His little “interview” is a perfect example of white whine.
was the term “white whine” really necessary? Kinda racist, don’t you think?
Is it the cool new thing to put white people down whenever possible now, or what? Seriously tired of all the hate towards white people, and white guilt too for that matter. Equality is a 2-way street. So is respect.
*facepalm* no it’s not racist, in fact, while complaining about white whines, you yourself have your own white whine. Discrimination and racism is still persistent, as noted by the hatred of Obama’s re-election. White people can’t complain about racism because they will never truly know what it feels like.
@Gracie — this white person agrees with you. And, no, that’s not because of “white guilt” that’s because what you said is a fact.
He calls Blake Lively a fabulous, gorgeous young woman and his wife a great woman and a great friend. Something’s off here.
Bringing up JLo just to win a Oscar. Pathetic!!
My neighbors black cat is more entertaining than BA – he should stfu – he ain’t no Kevin Spacey or Chris Cooper – now those dudes are fine actors.
I told you this guy is more annoying when he opens his mouth. He needs to shut his mouth and do his job. He seems not to like it when things seems good for him. He finds a way to screw it up. Why this? What did they said about him? bad actor, cheater? wasn’t that truth after Gili movie and all the bad choices he made one after another and the almost admitted striper thingie he has while with j.lo? They were big and the acting must much the hype otherrwise expect a backslash that is for anybody.
What would Angie will say? you know they torned her apart because a marraige that gonna end ended regadless and claimed for better all of sides comes to end all feed by JA pr and her friends like cuntia to the day to promote themselves? This words is for her but she won’t say it. Not for you.
I always hate to click on Ben Affleck stories because the hate for this guy is unreal…sorry, but I have always loved Ben…He is gorgeous and has a great sense of humor. He is also a very talented film maker…He seems like a good dad…and I have NEVER known of any proof that he is cheating on JG…just tabloids and sketchy speculation…but I will say…he is THE WORST in interviews…it sounds like he just says the first thing that pops into his head…but the hate for him is way over the top…
I found his interview so random. How was he villified in the press? He made sh-t movies and people said they were s-=t. No one hunted him down with pitchforks and he has a bazillion dollars so shut up. I can’t believe he is still hung up about it years later. Just reminds me how little sh-t celebrities actually deal with so when they get a little paper cut they feel like they lost a leg.
Agreed
LOL. Agree, he’s quite the crybaby
Is this guy STILL bringing up the J-Lo era? I admit, I thought he was a douche back then for dating her and flaunting it the way they did, but I forgave him in the years since, considering that he seemed to keep a much lower profile and seemed to be living a normal life.
But all this talking about it years later makes him seem like a douche all over again. I’m also a bit annoyed at the way he always tries to find fancy words to use. (He does this a lot whenever he guests on Bill Maher).
But on a side note, he does look damn good. Aging really well. Much better than his buddy Matt Damon.
Shameless…we get it.. you want a nomination…
I really liked Argo. Thats about it
Put a lid on it Ben.
I saw a bit of him on some RC, I think it was that GQ event. He talked about Jennifer (wife) and once again the lack of passion or anything. Just how she is so good he has a hard time believing it. The he was asked about Rihanna; and the difference was night and day. The objectives flew left and right. He all of a sudden lit up.
I’m sure he love his family, but a blind person can see that there is something missing in that relationship. I know that every couple is not going to show PDA. But for some couples you just feel the passion they have for each other. I don’t see it with him and Jennifer. I just don’t.
I you look at pictures of him at the many events he has attended then the ones with her or the family.. STARK difference. He is enjoying the time away going to all these things it seems more then his family. And even in that interview he talks about Jennifer more like she is an acquaintance or associate then the women he is sharing a life with.
Yeah, it’s almost like he damns his wife with faint praise.
I suspect though that this is his way of keeping the little woman in line, by praising sexy “rivals”
“…she’s just a great woman and a great friend. She has such wise and certain stewardship over these three characters that I love so much.” I actually think that’s a really sweet thing to say about your wife.
I love Jennifer Garner. She knows what she is getting out of the marriage and so does he. I seriously doubt getting a divorce will ruin his career. Lots of big names have effed up love and family lives but they still get good acting jobs.
Yes Ben is a douche, but whose to say she is not getting some action on the side? She is most probably smarter (like most women are) about not getting caught and not screwing around with wannabe starlets.
Also, any self respecting woman would know that any guy who acts like he’s deep but is raving about shallow talentless females like BLake and JLo is a waste of time.
Jennifer has a proven history of cheating on SOs- maybe even more than Ben does. Ask Scott Foley or Michael Vartan. Even if the kids keep her “busy” she’s experienced enough to be able to put together a side affair. I also think that she’s smart enough not to send 30K emails!
The press didn’t make him ridiculous, he did that all on his own. And he should be more careful about reminding people of just how absurd he became when trying to be taken seriously.
Why doesn’t Ben just come out and say what he really feels in his heart? And that is that all the criticism towards him during the Bennifer era was because of racism? People couldn’t stand to see the White “most handsome man alive” with a Puerto Rican woman! That’s what’s eating him up. He knows it. He was in love with Lopez and if he did stupid things, most inlove people do at one time or other. He hasn’t gotten over her. He says she’s been treated unfairly many times(Lopez). He knew her, loved her. Knows her well. He hated the criticism of them as a couple, because he knew what it was. Racism. I feel he still loves her and it pains him that their relationship ended the way it did.
Looking at old pics of them, he does look in love.
He had that sparkle in his eyes only someone in love has and I don’t see that with Garner.
But racism? What makes you think that? I am curious because it’s strange in liberal Hollywood. I know racism exists in Hollywood with movie roles and such but couples? We’ve seen “interracial” (God I hate that word) couples who are famous so I guess I don’t see the big deal here. Again, I am not disagreeing with you, just curious what makes you think that, I guess i’m shocked we’re still “there”.
Isn’t Matt Damon dating someone who is latina?
I bet we will see more emotion with him and his son…i just think he was waiting for that son and he got it..don’t get me wrong..have a girl and boy..but think he really wanted a boy..so when samuel is bigger we will see more engaged Ben..
The more he opens his mouth, the more pathetic and stupid he appears to be.
He’s only causing himself more problems.
He “is” a good director though, I’ll give him that at least
I never really understood what happened to Ben Affleck during the whole J-lo thing. I mean look at him. He’s your typical dude: jeans, t-shirt, ratty sneakers. And his wife is pretty much the same low key. So WHO the hell was that with J-Lo. I felt it was a case of ‘here’s this guy, Good Will Hunting phenom who suddenly gets a shot at ‘that girl’. You know, the hot girl, the classic hollywood diva and all the associated non-sense. He suddenly decided he wanted to be “that guy”. But it was so not him: all the crappy suits, slicked back hair, blinging, I mean he looked liked one of those fools off the Jersey Shore. And after all this time we all know what a mess J-Lo is. It was just drama after drama. When they split up and he ended up with his current wife I was like: there’s the real Ben Affleck he’s back! Who the F was that before? I guess he had a “phase” and tried it. BUt it really took away from his credibility and because he’s never actually said: “Listen, I lost my way, that wasn’t me, I messed up” but instead plays the victim “they were meanies to me!” he really doesn’t come off good and the chapter is never closed.
Lucky for him he’s 50 times the director and story teller than he is the actor. I really do like the movies he directs, I really don’t care for his acting. I will give him props though for being one of the rare Hollywood leading men who actually looks and carries himself like a man and not a “pretty boy who never grows up”. Props to him and his BFF for that (lol)
I forgot about him kissing that gigantic pink butt.
ROTFL
C’mon, that was awful.
