Lady Gaga thinks ‘ARTPOP’ album will ‘bring the music industry into a new age’

UGH. I knew it was too much to hope for that we might be relatively Gaga-free this year. Gaga was recovering from surgery for several months, and it looked like she was really committed to taking some time off, or at least some time away from the spotlight. But Gaga is coming back with a vengeance, and it’s happening a lot sooner than I was expecting. Gaga has just announced that her new album, ARTPOP, will be coming out this November and the first single from the album will drop on August 19, and the album will be available for preorder on September 1. Which means we’ve got months and months of Gaga magazine covers and Gaga interviews and Gaga nonsense ahead of us. Prepare yourselves.

Gaga’s press release (in the form of a wordy Facebook posting) claims that ARTPOP “musically mirrors Gaga’s creative process as she passes through the medium of each artist she collaborates with, scoring a blueprint on her journey.” ARTPOP will be a “musical and visual engineering system that combines music, art, fashion, and technology with a new interactive worldwide community—’the auras.'” Gaga promises that ARTPOP will “bring the music industry into a new age; an age where art drives pop, and the artist once again is in control of the ‘icon.'”

Gaga is already scheduling events to promote the album too – the UK tabloids claim she’ll be making an appearance at the iTunes Festival in London in September, and she’s confirmed that she’ll host an “artRave” with artist Jeff Koons, Inez & Vinoodh, Robert Wilson and Marina Abramovic. Basically, this sh-t is going to be a mess and it’s going to go on for MONTHS and we’re going to have to hear a lot of crap about and from Gaga and how she’s like the Jeff Koons/Andy Warhol of pop music. Seriously, why didn’t Kanye West and Lady Gaga get together when they had a chance? Their babies would have been the most delusional and egomaniacal babies in the world.

Gaga was out last night at a “a private Vernissage at the Gagosian Gallery” for an exhibition by photographers Inez and Vinooh. Photos below:

It was nice not seeing her everywhere!

So much for her ‘born this way’ bs, she already admitted awhile ago that she got her lips done, and I am starting to believe she got her nose done as well.

    • prissa says:

Agree! I barely recognize her!!! The only thing that looks remotely similar to her pre-hip-surgery self are her eyes. And even those look different. Maybe because she’s dyed her brows blonde???

    • Rice says:

Yup. Also, why is she walking with her hands on her hips? Is it for balance or something?

On another note, I never thought she had an original bone in her body. She’s Madonna 2.0, especially when she “sings” Express Yourself a.k.a. Born This Way. But she does have a good voice.

  2. mia girl says:

Looks like she borrowed a wig from Amanda Bynes, and then made a stop at the Hershey store in Times Square to pick up a chocolate kiss costume. She’s so artsy.

  3. JL says:

She’s so full of herself, I was actually fine with her early on but now- UGH.

Her over the top wheelchairs totally drove me over the edge on her self important, narcissistic and pompous ass.

  4. Eleonor says:

She has said the same thing about Born this way, she talked about it like it was the new “Thriller”. So eyeroll.

    • CG says:

I was so disappointed by the Born This Way album. I loved The Fame/The Fame Monster but Born This Way was just so meh. I prob wont preorder Artpop and will just download the singles I like, unless the whole album gets rave reviews.

      • Eleonor says:

The Fame Monster was a good album, decent pop-dance songs, as we haven’t heard in ages. I still really like it.
At the time Gaga was funny, you know it seemed she didn’t take herself so seriously. I’ve enjoyed her collaborations, her friendship with Alexander McQueen gave amazing results. But after that everything went meh.

      • CG says:

@Eleonor: I completely agree with everything you said! 🙂

      • Jayna says:

        I feel the same way.

    • MissMoody says:

Agreed. She definitely has talent but she did make it sound like “Born This Way” was going to change the world. In fact, she may have even used those exact words. Soooo yeah…I’ve said this before but I really feel like 2013 is the year of the celebrity ego-check. So many fallen idols already. I wouldn’t hate it if Gaga was added to that list by the time the year is out, not gonna lie

  5. Lulu86 says:

she is just so insincere with her crap, i wish she would go back to wherever she was hiding for the last few months. The jig is up

  6. Andrew says:

She gets on my nerves but I do like some of her music, so I’m kind of looking forward to august

    • LadyMTL says:

I’m the same way, I find her to be really annoying but at the same time I still love songs like Paparazzi or Born this Way. I’ll reserve judgement on this ARTPOP thingie till I actually hear some of the music.

    • claire says:

There’s a few of her songs I like. They’re catchy, silly pop songs. Nothing deep. But the way she talks about them and her “art”….that’s where she annoys me.

      • Bbb1975 says:

@claire, I agree. Some of her songs are good. She does have talent. But none of it is changing the music industry or changing the world. If she would lose all the stupid gimmicky stuff she would be more tolerable.

    • Tiffany :) says:

I like Gaga, but I do think many times she sounds like an outcast 13 year old. However, kind of like Kanye, I think their immaturity emotionally allows them to push the boundaries without fear, which is a good thing in music IMO. As a woman, I love that Gaga doesn’t focus soley on trying to be sexy, she shows that women can be many things.

I do think Gaga has a lot of musical talent. When she does variations of her songs, I really love the notes she choses when she riffs on the melodies. There were a few songs I really liked on BTW (especially Marry the Night), but there were also a handful of songs that I thought were pretty weak.

I just think she would be better served by letting the music speak for itself. Her interviews can be so cringe inducing!

  7. Jaded says:

I wish she’d get a personality transplant. She’s vapid and meretricious beyond belief.

  8. DanaG says:

Didn’t she just have hip surgery not that long ago? Wearing those stupid shoes is just dumb she is asking for trouble. If only she didn’t go so over the top with everything her music can be good but it’s her and her dressing up so stupidly that ruins her for me.

    • Sarah says:

Some of the blind gossip sites said she was being treated for drug addiction and the hip surgery story was just a cover for rehab.

      • Sandy says:

What is with these blind gossip items? They aren’t any better than the National Enquirer and people believe them too. I can write a blind item right now, will anyone believe it? Probably will. They are made up lies, about celebrities.

  9. Abs says:

    what a load of wank

  10. pretty says:

    definitely nose job.
in these second, third photo, we can clearly see her straight nose bridge.

    • Willa says:

Yeah, you can see a difference in the bridge of her nose in the profile. It looks like she did have it worked on. It most def has change since she first came on the scene. Not a bad nose job tho.

  11. SolitaryAngel says:

    Bitch, PLEASE.

It was SO nice not seeing her around. Maybe she’ll fall off those dumb shoes and need another hip surgery?

  12. Gia says:

Oh please!? You can’t compare Kanye to Gaga. He is far superior in talent and ego! I truly think Gaga’s ‘reign’ is over. She will always have a large fan base of outcasts and loners that feel like she is their saviour and ‘get’ them (which is a genius marketing strategy btw) but the world wide fanfare is over I think. I hope. After the whole self proclaimed gay anthem Born this Way debacle my eyes almost rolled out of my head. And she bites on Madonna way too hard.

    • Sandy says:

Kanye West is 10x worst than Gaga’s He recently compared himself to Jesus on his album cover. Jay-Z compares himself to Picasso. They all need to realize they aren’t as great as they make themselves out to be, especially Kanye and Jay-Z who act like them don’t breathe the same air as everyone else.

      • claire says:

Those two have big egos, they’re a bit much…but just a little bit of that is at least deserving. Comparing their lyrics and skill to hers…there’s no contest.

  13. Mayday says:

she better be careful with that plastic surgery, she is still VERY young. too young to be getting work done.

  14. Mayday says:

Also her wig looks busted, thats unlike her.

  15. wonderwoman21 says:

All these popstars think they’re much better than they really are.

You’re a drop in the bucket honey, a very ho-hum drop.

    • Carolyn says:

A lot of their music is ok it’s just that the PR, endless photos and stoopid interviews are just all too much. No-one is really that interesting.

whoever wrote that ridiculous press release should be fired.

“Hip surgery” is the new “exhaustion”.

  16. Sue says:

She looks like an alien……. Just saying…..

  17. bns says:

She is so annoying. I hope her album flops.

  18. JennJ says:

Oh no. If she could just tone it down several thousand notches! She does have talent and wouldn’t it be nice if her career was more about the music.

Also, I was hoping that the hip surgery might cure her of the ridiculous shoe habit. I really hope that young girls are over her and aren’t looking to her as a role model.

    • blaize says:

I don’t see her as a particularly bad role model, but I don’t know that much about her personal life or how she acts. In some ways I think she’s a good role model. I hate the idea that in order for a female pop star to be a ‘good role model’, she has to dress modestly and have little or no sexuality in her work- in other words, she has to be just like Taylor Swift. As if ‘sexual purity’ determines whether a female entertainer is good or bad, and sexual ‘innocence’ is what’s important for a female to achieve or project.

      • SezSays says:

I don’t care if my 13 daughter looks up to an artist (however loosely you want to apply the word) known for their sexuality, it’s really only in the US that people freak out so much about skin & sex. I’d be worried about them listening to someone who babbles on about loving yourself and being original who then goes and carves up her face to look like every other popette. Gaga is as manufactured as they come, both ‘artistically’ and facially.

      • JennJ says:

I was actually just talking about the stupidity of wearing platform heals after undergoing hip surgery…

I wasn’t even touching the whole package that is Lady Gaga — that is an entirely different argument!

  19. Lola says:

She looks very Courtney Stodden-ish in the last photos. LOL. Lets celebrate last weeks without that phony attention wh0re.

  20. Nancy says:

Gaga I’ve already forgotten about her as has everyone else.

  21. InvaderTak says:

I think this is going to bomb. Part of me is hoping it does. She was gone too long and people realized they could live without her. And she comes back on the scene with the same crap promotion for a new album? Validate my faith a little universe. Let this bomb.

  22. bondbabe says:

I think I will start walking around with both hands on my hips…and my sockless-man servant in his camouflage slippers shall carry my bags—be it the airport, the grocery store, or wherever.

    • Nev says:

      Totally.

she SHOULD’VE employed a real English butler( full uniform and stuff haha)….THAT would’ve been more happening.

      BUDGET.

  23. TheOriginalKitten says:

She sucks. Born This Way my ass.

Over-inflated ego and she wears fur. Blargh.

  24. A says:

    Lady who?

  25. some bitch says:

She definitely had a nose job. Looks like she’s concealing some bruising underneath her eyes.

  26. blaize says:

I never really got all the hype about Lady Gaga. I like some of her fashion, and how she basically wears whatever she wants, whether others think it’s ‘classy’ or ‘pretty’ or not, (I’m a strong defender of a woman’s right to do whatever she pleases with her physical appearance) and I like some of the things she promotes, but her music just doesn’t do it for me. She can sing a little, and she only has 1 or 2 songs that I like. I don’t think she deserves all of the awards she has gotten- which is also kind of the way I feel about Britney Spears. Hopefully Gaga’s 15 minutes are almost up. I want her next album to flop, because her fans are so damn obnoxious and so damn rude to other female artists on the internet- Katy Perry, Rihana, Christina, Nicki, Beyoncé, Madonna, etc.

    • Londerland says:

This, pretty much. When Gaga first showed up I thought it was great after so many identical blonde pop tarts (Britney, Xtina, Jessica, ad nauseam) that someone wasn’t trying to be a hot young thing, that she was trying to look like an alien diva. And a lot of her singles were catchy as hell.

And then the outspokenness about LGBT rights, about supporting the outcast, was just so heartening.

But god, this woman just takes herself so bloody seriously it’s impossible to be on side anymore. I went to a gig on the last tour (comp ticket, glad I didn’t pay) and came away thinking three things:

      – her artistic vision is a mish-mash of budget crap thrown together, though it costs a fortune. That carnival funhouse, the cheesy floating head, the zip-up womb…just didn’t coalesce into any kind of coherent vision. And looked hokey as hell.

      – her ego, untempered by any wit or humility, is terrifying. She spent fully half the time talking at the audience telling them how much she lived for them and how they were special babies and her children and blah blah blah and actually sat down with her dancers to go through all the junk her “little monsters” threw on stage to prove their worship of her. She presented a narrative of herself as the mother of a new race of super-special humans who would rule the universe with beauty and pop music and she SEEMS TO BELIEVE IT.

      – so do her fans. Though most of the audience were just there to hear a few pop songs (and were pretty impatient with the BS), the real nuts down the front were tearful, hysterical, and quite scary in a Nurembergy way that was totally alienating. They would kill for her if she asked them to, and she clearly loves that.

*sigh* I hope they’ll grow out of it or they’ll be servicing her mad private ego trip long after the world at large has lost interest and she’s rattling around her Norma Desmond home in a zimmerframe shaped like a Dalek by the time she’s sixty…

Oh, four things: the music just isn’t that good. Poker Face is great but Bowie she just ain’t.

  27. Dethammer says:

And, let the super massive black hole of malignant narcissism and unbearable pretensiousness-fest begin! UGH. Everyone should look up the artist Orlan. Orlan is a french artist who’s been performing and creating for over 3 decades and she’s currently suing Gaga for plagiarism. I think Gaga is wearing a surgeon’s face shield in that pic. Don’t be suprised if, for ArtPop, Gaga stages a video performance piece of glammed-up plastic surgical procedures, just like Orlan did in the 80s and 90s.

    • Bijlee says:

“And, let the super massive black hole of malignant narcissism and unbearable pretensiousness-fest begin!”

so damn true! Love this description!

    • Beatriz says:

Yeah, I love ORLAN and GaGa basically stole a lot of images from her (the face “implants” from BTW for example), I hope she is successful in her lawsuit.

  28. serena says:

    Her face looks terrible.

  29. Keats says:

Lady Gaga wants to be Kevin Barnes (from of Montreal), but only Kevin Barnes can be Kevin Barnes.Seriously google him for some trippy performance pop art.

  30. Mandy says:

Well, I personally look forward to this mess. I enjoy Gaga, I can’t help it.

  31. Dethammer says:

Orlan’s is not the only current lawsuit against her. Remember Jennifer O’Neill? Gaga’s former “best friend” (Gaga’s words) and assistant, the woman whom Gaga then called a “f*cking hood rat” and “a disgusting human being” in court because Gaga doesn’t believe in labor laws? The same day Gaga announces ArtPop, a Manhattan federal court judge has ordered that Terry Richardson must hand over 142000+ photos of Gaga to support O’Neill’s backpay lawsuit against her. According to the NY Daily News, O’Neill’s lawyers sought a supoena to compel Richardson to produce candid photos he took of Gaga and O’Neill during the Monster Ball Tour to support O’Neill’s claim she was working around the clock and always had to be at Gaga’s beck and call. I’ll provide the link in my next comment.

  32. Dethammer says:

Obviously, Gaga, Richardson, and her lawyers tried contesting the order to hand over the photos (that will most likely help O’Neill win) but they lost. Here’s the link http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/gossip/confidential/gaga-loses-snap-decision-back-pay-suit-article-1.1395494

  33. Emily C. says:

Gaga has never been anything but boring and annoying to me. Her music doesn’t push anything; it all sounds like stuff that could have come out in the 90s, except the lyrics are more dull and repetitive.

I think she does have talent, and if she was forced to work with just herself and a piano, no gimmicks, she could be amazing. But instead it’s all fluff, no substance. It’s sad to see someone waste herself like this.

  34. Jayna says:

Didn’t she brag her last album was going to be the album of the decade and not even a Grammy for album of the year. LOL

    • TheOneAndOnlyOnly says:

      I believe she said she was the best songwriter of the decade and btw would be the album of the decade; Up your arse much; really, she’s of average talent even for a pop star;
I said it on a previous post, Madonna (i’m not a fan a dance pop or madge), certainly from the mid 80s through the 90s was much bigger, played in much larger venues to much larger crowds, funny you never see venue shots with gaggles because her venues are small,
Like a Prayer (song and vid) are better than anything gaggles has come up with; She has a persona, not a personality, because fame came too quickly and has obliterated everything else including whatever minimal musical talent she has. Bowie she ain’t; hell, she’s not even tori amos or esperanza spalding.

  35. NEENAZEE says:

She’s talented and innovative and not afraid to push boundaries… I get it, not bad for a pop singer (in this day and age of over-produced pablum). It’s all the posing and overt attempts at being avant garde that make me roll my eyes. The shots from last night’s exhibit make it look like her bagman is literally holding her up and propelling her forward. Would she have better balance if she took her hands off her hips? Be less likely to fall if she wore a smaller wig? Chose shoes that allowed her to walk unaided? And what’s up with her lips… she doesn’t close her mouth anymore? Or is that a little too much filler?

  36. Lea says:

I’d say she’s more similar to James Franco.

  37. qtpi says:

Wondering if she will keep wearing those ridiculous shoes after she breaks an ankle.

  38. homegrrl says:

can’t listen to her songs more than once. but that one time I liked the song.

    That’s all I have

  39. wendy says:

    Love her! Can’t wait!!!!

  40. Dizzybenny says:

”this sh-t is going to be a mess and it’s going to go on for MONTHS and we’re going to have to hear a lot of crap”
we don’t have too if you don’t report it. 😀
    hint hint hint 😉

  41. missiecoco says:

that’s Gaga? Oh, nice new face. Did you get a new personality too? I hope so… Disappearing long enough to have some surgery & the scars to heal wasn’t long enough for me.

  42. heyheyhey says:

Just wait, I can see it already. Just like Jay Z, she’ll get a corporation to buy 1,000,000 copies of her single so she can fake a platinum so there’s “no way” artflop will flop. but i feel a flop in my bones with the usual slippery tactics.

  43. Canada Guy says:

Does she still grow those curious bump/horns on her head when she “creates” her music?
That was the biggest load I ever heard.
    What a phoney. Go away!

  44. rudy says:

There is no way on earth she could where those shoes after hip surgery.

From what I read, she was in rehab. Makes much more sense.
