Diane Kruger in rich, velvet Alberta Ferretti in Venice: gorgeous or wrong season?

You know what? I love this dress. I just think it’s wrong for the Venice Film Festival in the beginning of September. These are pics of Joshua Jackson and Diane Kruger at the Jaeger-LeCoultre Gala Dinner at the Venice Film Festival last night. The event celebrated 180 years of Jaeger-LeCoultre and (I suspect) Diane picks up a nice paycheck once or twice a year to attend these big gala events for this particular brand. To get back to her Alberta Ferretti dress… I love velvet. I love that this looks like high-quality, expensive velvet. I love the deep aubergine color. I’m okay with the cut, mostly because I think the sleeves are well-executed. But it’s just the wrong time to wear the dress. This is a dress for a December or January event in NYC, not September in Venice.

Diane is also featured in this month’s InStyle Magazine, where she talks about her skin care and how she stops guzzling wine so her skin will look better:

Diane Kruger wasn’t ”blessed with great skin”. The stunning model-and-actress reveals that she used to suffer from rosacea – a skin condition which causes red splotching on the face and spots – and now takes even greater care to maintain her glowing skin, such as abstaining from alcohol.

She explained: ”I wasn’t blessed with great skin. I used to have rosacea and had to quit smoking to get rid of it. I still struggle with under-eye circles. It’s all about discipline and finding products that are right for you. ‘I’ve noticed my skin looks better when I don’t drink, so I stopped for six weeks before the Cannes Film Festival. It did me wonders. I slept better than ever. It kind of sucked, though, because I enjoy a glass of wine.”

The 37-year-old beauty was recently named the face of Chanel’s skincare beauty product line, however, she admits she still isn’t fully confident about her appearance.

She added to the new issue of US InStyle magazine: ”You can be the most beautiful woman in the world and still find something that bugs you. I’ve learned how to highlight the things I like and minimize or hide the things I don’t.”

The alcohol thing is probably true, although weaning yourself off of the “nightcap” used to help you sleep is always difficult. I used to have a regular nightcap, which I always used as a way of getting to sleep. When I stopped drinking (for diet/get my life together reasons), I had a rough transition which included bouts of insomnia, but it did pass. And Diane is right – it’s not just that my sleep is easier now, I actually wake up feeling rested, as opposed to hungover and tired and dehydrated.

Also: Joshua broke his foot! But he still wanted to walk the carpet with his girl. JUST HAVE A BABY. You know you want to.

Regal, divine, PERFECT. I have been sorely missing Diane Kruger fashion p0rn.

    • Decloo says:

Love the dress but velvet before Labor Day–such a no-no. She can not have been comfortable either and that’s the real rule of fashion that she broke.

    • Katie says:

Anna you got your Diane Kruger fashion porn just like you hoped for in your email today! 🙂 and a CHemsworth post…awesome!

Also this is my first comment ever – ahh!

Alcohol’s deleterious effect on the skin for rosacea sufferers is well-known. It’s best to give it up altogether, as there doesn’t seem to be a moderate point for most sufferers.

Her dress is making me hot and itchy. It’s an odd choice for this time of year.

  3. Audrey says:

Ugh I hate velvet. I don’t think there’s ever a good time for this dress.

She usually always looks stunning. But just say no to velvet

  4. brin says:

Gorgeous gown but I agree, she should have waited a bit to wear.
I sleep much better without a nightcap!

  5. E-v-E says:

so.jealous of this woman. Great looks, great man, steady career, loads of fashion fun, living in Paris. Argh. But I don’t think she’s up for babies, I’m betting on surrogate.
this kind of dress is hard to pull, yet she does it.

it’s always nice to see joshua jackson. i still miss fringe 🙁

    • Falula says:

Yes to Jackson and missing Fringe. I freaking love them both.

      • Zan says:

Me three! I do watch “The Bridge” and it took me a little bit to appreciate the way she is playing her character, but I’m impressed with her in each episode. I keep hoping he’ll pop up in a bit part–like she did in “Fringe”–though.

Clicked on the link with fingers crossed that Diane had brought along her BEST accessory!!

I’m not loving the dress… I love velvet, love the color — but there is something that I don’t like about the cut. It’s missing something. The sleeves are ok and the length is ok but maybe the skirt has to be either slimmer or fuller?? Love Diane though!

  8. Falula says:

I read stories about her to see Joshua. That is all.

  9. Jen says:

I don’t think they want a baby. They’re one of those couples who only has time for themselves. Which isn’t a bad thing in itself, just a bad situation to bring a baby into.

    • hunter says:

Yeah why the hell should they have a baby?!!?!?

So stupid to assume every happy couple needs a baby to be complete. >:(

Babies are a total pain in the ass.

  10. Chutzpah says:

That isn’t Aubergine – it would be a million times better if it was its jewel tone purple and its horrible ;(

I am a big fan of velvet too and I love this dress. But I agree about it is the wrong the time of year for it. Given the heat spell we are currently having, looking at these photos made me sweat.

  12. GMarchetti says:

They could serve a meal on top of that dress. That’s all. Sorry, Diane.

  13. Charlotte says:

Why should they have a baby? Maybe they don’t want one.

  14. snappyfish says:

i am a huge velvet fan but this dress is not working for me. the color is a bit bright, but my main problem is too much fabric; if it had short sleeves or a lower neckline it would be fine.

as for the rosacea thing, i also have rosacea, and red wine is a big trigger for a flare-up for me; most rosacea sufferers have to give it up. when i started avoiding triggers (wine, nightshade veggies, and moldy cheese) and started drinking lots of water my skin became really clear and smooth. i get compliments on it all the time and people never believe me when i say i have rosacea. all of us pale girls have such sensitive skin. *sigh*

smoking is a friend to nobody’s face.

LOVE this dress don’t care about it being the wrong season it’s so beautiful. In fact I want it!

  16. JulieM says:

I’ve never been a fan of Diana Kruger, never thought she was very good. But I am really enjoying her in The Bridge. I think she’s doing a great job with the part. I find her character to be very complex. She’s getting a lot of criticism about her acting prowess which I think is undeserved, at least in this show. Some say her German accent comes through and I’ve listened for it but I can’t hear it.

Love the velvet dress, but, yeah, too early to wear it. Must be hot in there.
