Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad for HRC ‘ally for equality’ award: hot or ridic?

Jennifer Lopez

These are photos of Jennifer Lopez on Saturday evening at the HRC dinner in DC where she received the “Ally for Equality” award. Who the hell knows what’s going on in Washington these days, but Joe Biden did cancel his speech at the ceremony due to the government shutdown. Jennifer is wearing a burgundy Zuhair Muhad dress, which looks pretty tacky to me. In other words, this is a total JLo dress. With all of the sheer fabric at work, I’m amazed she’s not showing more cleave than she is. Her face looks different too, right? I don’t know if it’s the makeup job, but Jennifer is looking a lot like Minka Kelly in these pics.

Now let’s talk about this award. Human Rights Campaign is an LGBT rights group. It differs from Human Rights Watch, which focuses on global human rights and injustices. I was a bit confused at first (acronyms do that), but then I recalled how HRW can’t stand JLo. They wrote a magnificent exposé of her history of serenading crooks and dictators after she recently performed for the Turkmenistan despot for a nice chunk of cash.

In contrast, HRC loves JLo, and they enthusiastically justified her award: “We recognize Jennifer for her talent, style, compassion, philanthropy and generosity, but foremost for her public commitment to LGBT equality. This award is given to allies outside the LGBT community who stand up on behalf of equality for all Americans.” Okay, I can buy that JLo is passionate about equal rights in our country. Obviously, she doesn’t care at all what happens to people in other countries. HRC should care about that.

Just saw some make up-free pictures of her on the MailOnline. She is so pretty! She would look better with a tad less slap on! Her eye make up her is pretty ridic.

    • Petee says:

I think she is really pretty too.Awhile back she had some bad botox and she was doing her eye makeup to hide it,but it look’s like it went away and she has her face back.I don’t know why people are so hard on her,she works hard and seem’s really disciplined. She is no Kardasian that is for sure. That booty belong’s to her.

  2. Nev says:

    Love it.

  3. MrsBPitt says:

That dress is HORRIBLE! She is so pretty, and hass such a great figure, she really, really needs a new style…

    • Zimmer says:

I think she’s in an early Halloween costume, a spider on her web.

    • Stef Leppard says:

It would look better without the mock turtleneck or the sheer panels on the skirt. Then it might be an interesting dress. Her face looks pretty tho.

  4. j.eyre says:

The dress is kind of a combination if a Rorschach Test and a pervasive root system which could be the new look for Fall ’13

  5. Maria says:

I love the eyeshadow, hate the dress.

She has such a lovely figure but the cut and print is gaudy.

I am a bit mystified by the award. Not that I doubt that Lopez is for LBGT rights and all…but aren’t there many celebs who also promote LBGT equality? Perhaps ones who have actually sacrificed for the cause, and not made millions performing for brutal tyrants who suppress the LBGT communities in their own countries?

If Lopez has done anything special in campaigning for LBGT rights, I probably do not know. I have not heard anything like that. To me, it simply looks like the HRC is simply trying to raise its profile with a big name.

    • springingforward says:

Exactly. I haven’t heard of her storming any doors….

    • TWINK says:

She’s the producer of The Fosters, a hit drama about two moms raising children. Odd this wasn’t mentioned in the article.

  7. IceQueen says:

I don’t like the dress, she is pretty though.

  8. serena says:

    what hypocrisy.

  9. lucy2 says:

That dress looks dated and tacky – not surprised she chose it. Her face does look…different. I’m hoping it’s just the makeup, because while I find her highly annoying, she is a very pretty woman who does not need to nip and tuck.

I’m puzzled at her getting this award as well, especially in light of dictator cash problems.

  10. Harriet says:

    That…is a horrific dress!

  11. TG says:

The lady in the blue dress is pretty and outshines JLo here.

  12. Blanca says:

The three dresses are horrible, bad bad.

  13. Nicolette says:

I guess she only cares, or doesn’t care about human rights when it’s beneficial to her. Whether it’s lining her pockets or accepting some award, JLo is about JLo. Period.

    And that dress is awful.

  14. Virgilia Coriolanus says:

Not trying to say she’s getting old or anything, but I think she should start trying to switch it up every once in a while, into something other than a skintight dress–in the next five years or so, she’s going to start to look ridiculous.

  15. Goddess says:

Whoa, looks like her varicose veins spent a*little* too much time in the tanning booth. LOL

  16. Word says:

This is almost matronly. For her

  17. LisD80 says:

    Elvira Mistress of the Dark

  18. MsGoblin says:

    Trash-tastic.

So hideous it crashed my computer. Seriously.

  19. QQ says:

Ya’ll I gotta wonder if she gave a hefty money contribution for this image cleanser, cause frankly this is no lady Gaga, shit Not even a Cher or a Carrie Underwood

    • yolo112 says:

That’s a very interesting angle. Out of all of the crap I read about her, I can’t ever once remember reading anything about her being supportive of LGBT community…unless, of course, the gay reference was about her man…and she DOES support his ass. 😉

  20. Jackson says:

It looks like a Halloween costume. And what is going on with her lips? The edges are all smudged and her face looks recently tweaked. This one almost never gets it right and this look is no exception.

  21. yolo112 says:

Ew. Halloween IS right around the corner. I hate her style. Not only is it completely latina Vegas performer, ice skater wanna be, it’s old and tired, recycled looks over and over again. And she REALLY needs to blend her tones on the bridge of her nose. This is the 3rd time I’ve seem this and it looks crazy weird/bizarre.

  22. andrea says:

Whats with the light brown contacts? Is it to contrast with the dress?

  23. mar says:

    horrid

  24. Denise says:

Ridic, as per usual. The woman is as good at picking dresses as she is men. Whoever is doing her makeup needs to keep closeups in mind when doing that weird shading stuff.

  25. Jay says:

An award from HRC is meaningless, given that they claim to stand up for LGBT people but routinely throw trans* folks under the bus. They’re a sham of an organisation run by rich white dudes who want some of that sweet lobbyist pie.

  26. Deedles says:

She looks like the hostess of an S&M bar.

  27. Stacy says:

O lordy. That dress is ridic. Unflattering for her great figure. This dress gives the illusion that she’s poured into a wine glass or on top of a popsicle stick.
