People: Katharine McPhee is ‘no longer seeing Michael Morris, at least for now’

It was WEEKS ago when TMZ got photos of married Katharine McPhee making out with married Michael Morris. Katharine later claimed that she and her husband were separated, but as for Michael’s marriage to Mary McCormack… well, the initial word was that Mary kicked him out of the house, although lately it does seem like they’ve been trying to work it out. What bothered me (and what I’m sure bothered Mary) was the over-familiarity of Katharine and Michael’s make-out session in public. It made me wonder just how long their affair has been happening.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t even ask those questions because Katharine was acting like this affair was the worst thing that ever happened to her, and by “worst” I mean “she was so happy that people were paying attention to her.” Katharine went Full LeAnn, getting “sources” to drop quotes to People and Us Weekly about how Katharine was “so embarrassed” and how she felt like the victim. Meanwhile, Michael Morris seemed to drop her completely and he was working on his marriage. So, how do you read this move by Katharine?

It’s been a rough fall for Katharine McPhee. On Oct. 22, the former American Idol finalist was caught in a lip-lock with Michael Morris, who directed her in the now-canceled NBC musical series Smash – even though both were married to other people.

Now, a McPhee source tells PEOPLE, “Katharine is no longer seeing Michael – at least for now.”

In fact, the actress’ marriage to Nick Cokas, her husband since 2009, is still in a state of limbo. Despite the fact that McPhee and Cokas have been separated for months, “Katharine still has no plans to move forward with divorce at the moment, though they are not living together,” adds the source.

Meanwhile Morris’s wife, former In Plain Sight star Mary McCormack, prefers to keep her focus on her daughters – Lillian, 2, Rose, 6½, and Margaret, 9.

“Mary is a strong woman,” a second source tells PEOPLE. “Her dedication to her children will remain her focus and gift.”

Amid all the uncertainty, one thing is true, says the McPhee source: “This is an incredibly hard time for Katharine.”

[From People Magazine]

HOLY SH-T. “Katharine is no longer seeing Michael – at least for now.” That sounds like a threat. I’ve sort of been joking about Katharine being like LeAnn Rimes, but seriously, this is straight out of The LeAnn Playbook. This is aimed straight at Mary McCormack – like, McPhee is saying, “I could get your man but I choose not to… RIGHT NOW.” As for Katharine still thinking that she’s the victim in this mess… Michael and Mary have children. Enough. Katharine needs to see a shrink.

Even during her Idol days, i’ve always felt a certain smugness from Katharine McPhee. I’ve never liked her.

  2. MrsBPitt says:

Poor Mary! Why doesn’t Katharine just shup up about it! She really is the new LR…

    • brin says:

…and look where LR is. Not a good move, KM.

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

If my husband had an affair and the other woman kept whining about how hard it was for her, I would seriously consider murdering her. What a selfish person.

    • starrywonder says:

Seriously TB needs a seat! You are not having a hard time you trick. You had an affair and got caught. I still think she outed them on purpose (taking a page out of LeeLee’s handbook) but was shocked when her married boyfriend chose to want to work on his marriage and not on some jumpoff. Ugh.

  3. Belle Epoch says:

“This is an incredibly hard time for Katharine.”

Are you effing kidding me? Please, make her disappear. Maybe the puddle of woe at her feet will swallow her up forever.

  4. Kiki says:

People Magazine is making it all about her. Why not make it about the wife?

  5. Vee says:

I always liked her and her voice. This changes everything, she has now dropped to Leann levels. Her choices are disgusting and self serving.

  6. taxi says:

    My heart bleeds.

  7. lucy2 says:

She seems legit crazy. She and her “sources” need to stay quiet, comments like that are only making it worse.
Side note: I’ve always thought Katharine was very pretty, but good Lord, she has terrible hair.

    • Ok says:

She used to have gorgeous hair when it was very long and brown.

Then she hacked it off and bleached it platinum for a new look for a new album. But with that hair cot and color you have to put a lot of time and effort into styling.

Now she is trying another new hairstyle. It is not bad

    • Happyhat says:

I don’t mind her hair; she’s got a pretty face, so she can never annoy me as much as Leann-rat-face does, no mater what she gets up to.

  8. Green is Good says:

I know it’s cliche’, but: Bitch please.

    Team Mary McCormack. (sp?)

  9. nico says:

    Please….she staged those shots.

  10. Merritt says:

I wish there was more focus on Morris and his bad choices and deceit. But that would be too much like right.

    • Bridge13 says:

      Truth.

    • Vee says:

Good point. Morris is selfish scum as well.

    • Red32 says:

Maybe there would be if Morris was out whining “poor me” to the tabloids. People prints what PR reps tell them. If Katharine kept her trap shut, she wouldn’t be getting this much heat, but then again that means less attention as well.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

Exactly! Morris sucks but McPhee’s people are playing the victim angle whereas Morris is rightfully shutting the eff up.

    • jaye says:

He deserves as much derision as she does, but SHE’S the one who is still flapping her yap and sending thinly veiled taunts to Morris’ wife. She’s either really stupid or she’s using this as a vehicle to try to make herself relevant. Or both.

  11. Sarah says:

we know that People magazine only publishes what the pr team has agreed on so this is indeed disturbing. if you wanted to get the bad press out of your way you would try to spin the story that you were played (like Kristen Stewart tried to despite having way more power than her director guy) and then you basically hate him. but this is really crazy.

    • nico says:

Maybe she wants to rub it in the wife’s face some more. Katherine must be pissed he’s trying to work it out with this wife. A woman scorned doesn’t always make the best decisions.

  12. briargal says:

Why is it both McPhee and Rimes feel that THEY are victims?? They both have free will and could choose not to have affairs with married men. No one held a gun to their heads and forced them to do it. I have no respect for the men either but for these two slutty women to claim that they are victims is just ridiculous! The true victims in both cases are the spouses and the innocent children.

  13. Relli says:

Lol, I love how LeAnning out, pulling a LeAnn and The LeAnn Playbook are now universally understood phrases.

  14. Christin says:

My personal interpretation is that it is a thinly veiled taunt to Mary. It’s really tasteless, but then again it’s hard to shame the shameless.

I know nothing about Kat’s husband, but why doesn’t he divorce her? She’s trying to be portrayed as the victim who wants to keep all her options open.

    • holly hobby says:

She married someone who’s 20 years her senior. If I remember correctly, the hubby was an out of work unsuccessful actor. I don’t know why they are now calling him a “producer.” Anyway, I wouldn’t be surprised if they had some type of arrangement where they remain married and she is the main breadwinner while he sits on his thumbs. I wouldn’t be surprised her line of work is to hook up with a sugar daddy to support both her and the hubby.

      • Happyhat says:

I think linguistically, an out of work actor is called a producer. Only plebs like us are called unemployed.

  15. Sisi says:

    who are all these people

  16. Bridget says:

How has Katherine McPhee managed to handle this so badly? ”At least for now”?!? Who lets this woman even open her mouth in public?

    • jaye says:

I was just thinking that. Who are her P.R. people and what would make them think that this quote would help her cause in ANY way? This definitely seems like a page right out of the Leann Rimes’ publicity playbook.

  17. Jayna says:

Is that what they call it, no longer seeing him? LOL Shouldn’t it be Katharine is no longer screwing a married man behind the wife’s back, for now? I would question the quote, except it is from People, so would be legit, coming from her camp. Tacky, Katharine. He dumped you, I see, with some promise of I have to try for the kids right now and my career, but maybe down the road . . .

    • briargal says:

Guess McPhee wants to be a “hasbeen” singer just like LR. Oh wait…. has McPhee really been a singer or famous as of yet except for now being labeled a possible “homewrecker”. Hopefully Mary and Michael can work things out and deprive McFree (with her morals) the title of homewrecker. LR will still own it lock, stock and barrel.

      • holly hobby says:

When she first started out, David Foster was really high on her. He even had her duet with Bocelli at one of his concerts. Well she’s not working with David Foster anymore. I wonder what happened there.

She isn’t a hasbeen she was a never was.

    • Stormsmama says:

      Agree with you Jayna
She’s in shock bc she thought he’d choose her
      But he chose his family
And even tho he’s a pig he’s the father of Mary’s girls so she’s gonna try to work something healthy out for them
KM is spinning bc she is too self absorbed to understand he feelings are only relevant to her. She’s needs to take responsibility find some humility stfu and try to do something honest to imbue her days with meaning

  18. renata says:

I was always aware that there were many people that didn’t think that highly of her. For whatever reason, she never scored large on the likability chart. Despite that, I was always kind of a fan. She has a good voice, pretty, shoulders like a swimming champion — heck, I even appreciated Smash 🙂

However, with this most recent episode Kat finally nudged me over to the other side. Hard to like someone who gets in the middle of someone else’s marriage. I think she finally played her cards just right and got everyone lined up together — is there anyone left that really thinks that much of her?.

  19. MissMoody says:

Disgusting. I guess all the negative comments from her “so embarrassed she got caught!” quote didn’t make an impression. I hope this Morris dude sees what’s going on here. Kat McPhee probably called the paps herself and now, she’s done with him “at least for now?” There were pictures out like 2 weeks ago of him with his wife and wearing his wedding ring. Has she or her insiders ever apologized? I don’t think so. I watched her season of Idol and didn’t mind her but Smash made me loathe her. And now this? This girls career is dead in the water. The affair will get her some publicity but I doubt it will translate into anything substantial work-wise.

  20. jasmine says:

Does anyone else think it is highly ironic or “art imitating life/ life imitating art” that Michael Morris is currently directing episode for the ABC drama “Betrayal” ?? If you don’t watch the show, the premise is about a man and woman who are having an affair while currently married to other people…I mean c’mon…too ironic or what???

  21. holly hobby says:

That haircut of hers makes it look like she has a fat face – so unflattering. She, KStew and MeAnn should start a Trampire club (thanks Will Ferrell for that phrase). Hard for her? Tell that to the wife and kids. What a witch.

  22. madchen says:

She has the worst p.r. team around her. People doesn’t print anything unless it’s been vetted by a publicist. They’re either incredibly inexperienced (which I doubt), or don’t care (most likely) because in the very near future McPhee won’t be able to pay their $4000 a month tab.

  23. jaye says:

This stupid slore is just asking for pop to the chops.

  24. Kosmos says:

Wow, you know, I always liked Smash and Katherine McPhee, but no longer…..not after this. Who would be so selfish as to go after some other woman’s husband, with children involved? Kristen Stewart, for one….and now Katherine. Geez, she’s now on my least favorite list forever!! I just do not respect women who do this. Of course, he’s no better…..

    • briargal says:

Don’t forget LeAnn Rimes! And I’m sure the list will get longer what with the morals these days. Seems like marriage vows mean nothing anymore to some people, like KM, KS, and LR!
