Here’s Lady Gaga’s latest magazine cover, the second-ever print edition of Porter Magazine, the new magazine from net-a-porter.com. I have to admit, I don’t really hate this photo shoot by Inez & Vinoodh. They usually get some nice shots of her, and they’ve photographed her for many publications over the years. I guess my favorite photo is the one where her waist looks crazy-small. Photoshop? Or is that small? Anyway, here are some highlights from the interview:
Gaga is close to her sister Natali & her parents Joe and Cynthia: “I have a fierce love for my sister, who is so talented. I wouldn’t say it if it wasn’t true. When she shows me her drawings, I think, ‘f**k!’ I want to sit in her apartment with her and smoke cigarettes and sew all day.”
Releasing ARTPOP last fall: “That’s when I know my soul is restless. It comes out in a very physical way. If I’m able to hold on to one look for a longer period of time, it means I’ve settled into a new idea. If I haven’t, I’m just searching for the next thing, ‘What’s next? What’s next?’”
On Donatella Versace: “In her recent collection, every gown was like she was flipping two middle fingers, with long nails covered in diamonds, down the runway. It was so unapologetically Donatella, so undeniably beautiful and sexy and her.”
Gaga also says that she enjoys interacting with “regular” people who don’t treat her like a superstar, which… I would imagine is happening more and more these days, because her shtick has worn thin and more people are like, “Eh, there’s Gaga” rather than going full-Little-Monster and screaming and crying when they see her.
Porter also released a video too – is it wrong that this is the most enjoyable Gaga video I’ve seen in a while? Why can’t she make music videos this… undone?

Gaga is very talented, I just wish she would drop the over the top act and just write music and sing.
I wish she’d just do an acoustic album and remind people of what a good voice she has. I think the most shocking thing she could do is be the guest performer in “American Idol”, dress like a normal person and do a song totally acapella.
I like that idea.
I agree – I actually like her voice, I just don’t care for the 3 ring circus that comes with it. She focused more on being a spectacle than a musician, and now that the novelty has worn off, her career is suffering for it.
I wouldnt mind hearing an acoustic well-written album from her. Her act grew stale pretty quick and she just became this figurehead of pretentiousness. She is talented and if she doesnt force things so hard she could be on top again.
Yeah, her playing the piano and singing. No crazy music videos, not weird outfits or try-harding. I’d buy that album.
I agree. This is the most interesting I have found her in a long time, and I used to be a big fan in the begining.
Despite what she says, I think she feels bad about herself and doesn’t think she can be “pretty”, so she goes out of her way to try and be ugly. At first I really loved that she was showing how women can be a number of things other than “pretty”, but her devotion to 24/7 over the top costuming is tiring. Not only tiring, but the quality of the costumes has gone way down hill. I think it would be great to see her at peace with herself, and still do the costumes on stage….but just be a bit more relaxed and comfortable off stage too.
Someone is channeling Stevie Nicks hard. I have to say she looks lovely. I hope she drops the shit art and the shit music and does something REAL soon.
Meh!
she is super nice, why all his disguises who disfigure and hijack the attention of his music?
I don’t think she is particularly attractive, but she looks so much better without all the costumes and makeup.
She looks pretty here, I get sort of a young Courtney Love vibe. But she is still Try Hard personified to me and bugs the crap out of me.
I went down the internet rabbit ‘hole’ (pun intended) of Courtney and Kurt since the anniversary of his death is nearing. Courtney was attractive in an unconventional way, back then, even before surgery. When she wasn’t being a full on hot mess, of course.
I like these pictures of Gaga not wearing any clown suits. The cover is the best.
Nice reference, But no way in hell does this chick have the influence that Nirvana had; they and the other seattle groups rejuvenated rock and spoke for a fair number of gen x’ers. And they did not spend time lining up celebrity product endorsements like gaga and other pop stars of today. I grew up in that period.
And I was hoping Porter would stick to models – the Giselle cover was nice – and not overexposed celebutards/pop tarts.
First commenter said the pix reminded her of Love, not that any were equal or similar to Nirvana or the scene. Gaga isn’t in the same musical genre, even, that’s not what it was about. But yeah, she didn’t start a movement. I’m not sure Kurt wanted to either, and ultimately it might have been what pushed him over the edge aside from a lifelong history of depression and a shit ton of drugs. It’s too bad. They had some live clips of the band on TV over the weekend, and they were excellent.
Still, I like the way Gaga looks without the get ups. I don’t like her desperate attempts at attention. But she does have significant talent, even if you don’t like her musical style. I wish she would play to that instead of the nonsense but, you know…Miley and whatnot.
And she does have a bit of Rosanna Arquette going in some shots.
I sorta get the Rosanna Arquette vibe from her here…you look nice Gaga!
Yes. Courtney in the first one and Arquette in the raised arms one.
Best she’s ever looked.
I cannot stand her, and I think her music stinks!
Yes, that waist is photoshopped. and it belongs to Barbie.
She is tiny. The waist is proportional to her upper body. It just looks really tiny because her lower body looks so much wider due to the position of her knees under the dress/robe/whatever that is.
See? I always told people she was pretty without her deliberate contortions of her appearance, but I don’t think anyone ever believed me. She obviously doesn’t fit the WASP ideal of pretty, but so what? I think this might be a bit of a turning point for her. Hopefully she’ll realize that people like HER, the kooky fun chick who dresses in all the costumes, not the costumes themselves.
Yes, I don’t like her, but I have always thought she was pretty when not in costume.
She looks like Kaley Cuoco in that second pic.
Whatever. Even the make under is predictable and try hard. Nicki Minaj also has already just done this. I just want Gaga to go back to making great music. Haven’t loved anything she’s done since Bad Romance.
Like the cover shot.
She is literally changing three times a day in outlandish outfits to be photographed going to radio stations to promote or anywhere else with masks over her face this week, etc. it’s so old.
The average person doesn’t pay attention to her whereabouts?
She looks great here and she is very talented.
She looks really pretty without all of that crazy makeup. I wish she went out in public looking like this more often.
This GaGa? WOW! She should stay like this.
Best look ever!
Still don’t get why people are so bothered by all her different costumes and say its “tired” I think its cool and she has more balls then most people sitting in front of a computer spewing hateful things about her. More power to you GAGA!
The video was much better than her latest “shocking” efforts, but is it weird that I found her very inarticulate? I kind of got what she was trying to say about art not having a gender to her, thus she doesn’t go the regular female pop star route of “look at mah boobies” and instead tries to achieve something that speaks to many different viewpoints, but the rest of it was pretty garbled. Like sitting around in her basement smoking pot and making long, drawn out epic statements about how deep everything is and like, art, man, kind of garbled.
As a piano player, the few times I’ve seen video of her playing when she’s not PERFORMING, I’ve been so impressed. Her technique is great and she plays beautifully. I hope to run a symphony one day, and I’d totally hire her to play a concerto. Not sure which one, but we’d find one. And I’d bet she’d nail it. Here’s hoping she continues to reel the shtick back!!
She looks like Stevie Nicks from the end of 70’s, only with a bigger nose.
I think she looks beautiful. I liked the video as well. I wish she’d drop the shenanigans now and go in this direction.
I think she looks great here, I actually like her with bangs. But holy photoshop – they made her waist look teeny tiny in that one pic. She’s small, but not that small.
Very reminiscent of Stevie Nicks, back in the day! She looks lovely here.
I don’t like her but these are great photos of her, very pretty.
I think the cover shot is stunning – she looks amazing
I get Marianne Faithful
