Vanity Fair claims they did not Photoshop Prince William’s bald dome: lies?!

Here are some photos of Prince William in Coventry, England today. He was dedicating Coventry’s War Memorial Park as… something to do with “special status.” It’s been 100 years since the start of World War I, that has something to do with it. William unveiled a plaque and he was very serious. Duchess Kate wasn’t there. Neither was Prince George (too bad, he would have punched something or someone). William did not confirm or deny that Kate is pregnant again. All in all, a quiet, somber, respectful event.

Meanwhile, you know how William, Kate and George are on the August cover of Vanity Fair? Well, eagle-eyed royalists claimed that VF Photoshopped William’s bald spot on the cover. But Vanity Fair says they didn’t.

If Prince William’s hair looks different on the August cover of Vanity Fair…altered follicles are in the eye of the beholder. In response to questions about possible adjustments made to its latest cover, featuring Will, Kate Middleton and Prince George in honor of the wee royal’s first birthday, the magazine admitted to certain things—but denied giving George’s dad a digital hair transplant.

“We did not Photoshop the cover to make Prince William appear to have more hair,” a VF spokesperson tells E! News. However, their aesthetics experts didn’t leave the cover pic entirely alone.

“We gave the image a poster-like palette,” the mag revealed. “We added some shadow to Prince William to make the white type more legible, and to place more emphasis on Prince George.”

[From E! News]

Bulls—t. If you go to E!, you can see the difference between the original photo and the cover. It’s funny because Vanity Fair cut out most of William’s head, which made the cover super-awkward. It’s weird they can’t just come clean about adding a few extra hairs to the bald dome.

I actually kind of believe them. It seems more like they just cropped the photo to hide his bald spot, which is pretty funny too.

    • Megan says:

I wish William would just cut off the comb over and own the baldness. He would look so much better.

      • KJP says:

I agree! It looked especially bad the other day when he was snorkelling or scuba diving or whatever he was doing in the pool.

      • Eleonor says:

Agreed, that’s what I tell boyfriend: if you’re going to start losing hair cut them all, it’s better than John Travolta toupé or trying to hide.

      • Sighs says:

Amen! Just shave it off or get plugs. You have the money, William. Refer to Rooney.

      • AM says:

He has such strong facial bone structure, too. I think he could pull off the shaved head.

    • lucy2 says:

I agree about the cropping, but I think they probably fuzzed that area out a bit or something also.

  2. Kiddo says:

Much better photo of Tom Hardy than the wife-beater tat shot.
Charlie Sheen is nicer to fans than Cameron Diaz. Even though he is a douchenozzle in many other ways, there’s some small human part of me that feels sorry for him, yeesh.
Chelsea Handler looks the same to me with or without make-up. Looks like a lot of fillers or something going on, not sure.
That was a heartwarming, but also sad, story about the baby and the photoshop.

  3. Talie says:

He needs hair — why not get the Wayne Rooney treatment where they plug the whole head? He’s got the money. Otherwise, he should grow a beard. Honestly, with his skin tone and gaunt face, he looks sick.

  4. someone says:

Haven’t they come far with hair implants these days? William should look into it. Sorry but he is not the “bald is better” kinda guy.

  5. wolfpup says:

Prince William looks so delicious with a whole head of hair. If I were him, I would definitely put some plugs on top. Why the hell not? That’s much less invasive than putting filled balloons, under his chest muscles, for instance, or a pair in his bum. It would be funny to see him hobble on a pair of “foot-binding” high heels (referencing old Chinese custom of crippling women). What women will do to themselves for a look…

Photoshop is a scourge for real people everywhere! Creating fantasy shapes, does not help anyone, but the celebrities; but most importantly, it helps the business of celebrity-makers. Oh, and the beauty industry, as we all hop to buy what the mags say the celebrities are using, to look so pretty.

  6. Red Snapper says:

They also closed Kate’s mouth for her.

    • wendi says:

Those veneers she has don’t seem to fit properly in her mouth and it’s probably hard for her to close her mouth and maintain a natural expression — this contributes to the “maniacal” grin she is always sporting.

      • ArtHistorian says:

I was wondering if she has an underbit – because it kinda looks like that in this photo.

      • Megan says:

I don’t think she has an underbite or veneers. I think she is doing Invisalign. I have a lot of friend who have done Invisalign and they had the exact same expression as Kate for months.

      • ArtHistorian says:

        Stupid question: What is Invisalign?

      • nancy says:

megan – it IS veneers. this is common knowledge and if you follow this site at all, everyone knows it.

      • notasugarhere says:

@ArtHistorian. Invisalign are clear plastic braces instead of metal braces, used to straighten teeth. You can remove them yourself to eat or brush your teeth. When you wear them, they slightly distend/change the shape of your mouth.

      • ArtHistorian says:

Ah, had something like that as a teen (though not invisible) – bloody uncomfortable they were.

    • notasugarhere says:

They’ve done a lot of photoshop on her mouth, jaw length and shape, and neck.

      • nancy says:

I don’t see it, notasugar. She does a pretty good job looking “fake” all by herself — hair extensions, fake tan, heavy make up, veneers, bolted-on padded bra….and my list is conservative (others think she’s had work done)

      • Upshot says:

When comparing the original shot and the final cover shot at E!, I can see the changes to Kate’s face, and to clean up her hair as well. Her mouth is not as wide open, the entire shape of her face looks not nearly as long and thin as the original. Among other things.

But hey. It’s Vanity Fair. Not As Is Fair.

I think PW just really does not care much about his bald spot. Gotten resigned to it, perhaps? He strikes me as too lazy… er, too laid back to give a fig.

And I agree with him. It’s hair. And it’s fallibg out. Oh well.

  7. Dame Snarkweek says:

If William seems okay with his baldness why can’t we be? But on a hypocritical note I do wish he would stop with the stringy combover. Hasn’t Edward stopped?

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

      Agree on all counts.

    • Ennie says:

If he is wearing his hair in a comb over, I think he is not really OK with his baldness. making your hair into that hairstyle is an art, he needs to own it.

      • Dame Snarkweek says:

Lol hopefully a dying art. By okay with it I mean the self-deprecating jokes and the refusal, so far, to seek out expensive hair replacement alternatives.i would just be happy if he got his teeth aggressively cleaned and perhaps a mild whitening session afterwards.bald is a personal choice but yellow teeth is such a deal breaker. *shudders*

      • Ennie says:

This look is not favorable at all. He probably still thinks that having a few hairs on the front is all it takes…
        no!
        http://amradaronline.files.wordpress.com/2014/07/prince-william1.jpg

And I would bet that he uses Rogaine or something similar (mynoxidil), but probably not if they are still trying for babies.

  8. Esmom says:

I think it’s funnier that they chose a photo of Kate with her eyes downcast, it makes me feel like I’m not the only one who doesn’t want to see her lower lashes with their infernal heavy dark liner!

  9. Sam says:

I don’t get it. I’ve never gotten the impression that William is sensitive to the hair situation. I remember him cracking jokes about it in the past – so why alter something that the subject doesn’t seem to care much about? It’s not like he’s not photographed constantly. If he was sensitive about it, wouldn’t he have invested in some, uh, artificial help by now?

    • ERIKA says:

But of course he is sensitive! It’s like telling a woman she needs to lose weight, or get botox, or get plastic surgery, or get a lipo, etc etc. Men have self esteem issues too!!!!1

  10. maybeiamcrazy says:

Prince William would look a lot better if he owned his baldness and stopped trying to hide it with hideous comb overs.

  11. kri says:

LMAO! It looks like he used that spray-hair in a can that you see on infomercials at 3 a.m. oh, so bad!

  12. Jen says:

William, please whiten your teefs! For the love of god – they’re corn-on-the-cob yellow!

    • ruby says:

ROTFLMAO Jen!! But at least they are his own teeth – unlike Kate’s chicklet veneers!!

  13. Mrs McCubbins says:

Plugs dont work! I know a couple of guys who have had the procedure done more than once. They still lost the hair……again and again. I actually think William is a good looking guy and agree with other posters. He should either shave it off or get a buzz cut. It would make him look less conservative. One needs to have a nice shaped head though.

    • ArtHistorian says:

Indeed you do. One of my high school classmates shaved his head to to look “cool” and then discovered, to his chagrin, that he had a very lumpy head. He wore a baseball cap until his hair grew out again.

      • Megan says:

I think a lumpy head looks better than a comb over. Every time I see him I think, “my grandpa had the same haircut.”

      • ArtHistorian says:

LOL, My classmate was also young. But he really had a seriously lumpy head – odd bumps all over the places. A friend of mine has gotten a bald patch in the back of his head. He just wears a hat when the sun shines.

What I always find very sad is seeing these old women whose hair is thinning so much that they have bald patches. I actually think that women have a lot more of their gender identity bound up in their hair than men do. A few years back, there was this book published that was titled something like a cultural history of hair and one about blonde hair (which had very bad social associations in the 15th century). They actually sound very interesting. Identity politics bound up in hair – I actually think that might be one of the reasons why Kate’s hair is so hestedly discussed and that so many of us have so many opinions about what she should do with it.

  14. Tiffany says:

Not ‘Lies?!’, Kaiser. ‘Lies!!!!’ This is not even a question.

  15. melain says:

Maybe they used Illustrator or some other program? Would they intentionally mislead people by giving a technically truthful answer?

    • Francis says:

I was just about to say the same thing. They probably used a different retouching and photo editing program. So when they say they didn’t photoshopp it’s their truth, but they used something else.
It’s so obvious they reworked the picture, there’s not a magazine cover of a high profile magazine that does not retouch and edit their photos in some way.

Some magazines can’t seem to come to terms with Williams bald head, the golden Prince can’t be seen as he really is. haha
The magazines have been retouching Kate’s bad skin for years, her skin is terrible from what I’ve been told from someone who saw her in person and she looks emaciated in person, according to the person, Shockingly thin. Also the person was surprised at how damaged her hair looks in person, she used the word “fried.” I wonder if that’s why Kate went to extensions off and on?
Anyway the cover was definitely gone over with some retouching, even if it wasn’t photoshop, Vanity Fair used something.

  16. ERIKA says:

It’s not his fault that he is losing his hair! Even when you have the pesos hair implants are very painful, not every guy is so vain that he wants to go through that just like not every woman is so vain that wants to go through a liposuction or a brazilian butt lift or laser injections or botox or whatever.

  17. philasweet says:

The second I saw this in my mailbox I thought ‘Why would they choose a photo that so prominently features the top of a balding man’s head’? Dumb, just a pick a different photo, no controversy.
