Jesse Eisenberg’s hair is magnificent, but why isn’t he bald for Lex Luthor?

My God, Jesse Eisenberg’s hair is glorious. I don’t think I’ve ever paid that much attention to his locks, but OMG. I would kill to have those curls!! He has Helena Bonham Carter hair. These are some new photos of Jesse outside of the BBC Radio 1 studio yesterday in London.

Ordinarily I would care (I like him but he’s really not on my radar for the most part), but I’d just like to point out a few weird things. One, he still has his hair. Surely he’s going to shave his head to play Lex Luthor in Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice? I mean, they’re filming that RIGHT NOW. Ben Affleck is beefy and Henry Cavill is Superman-bulky. Why isn’t Lex Luthor bald? Did Jesse not want to cut his hair? Is he wearing a bald cap (cop out!)? Or is Lex Luthor not bald in this film? So many questions.

I also think it’s weird that Jesse didn’t attend Comic-Con with Gal Gadot, Cavill and the Batfleck. His absence does not bode well, I think. Or maybe he just had something else on his plate? THR reported a few days ago that Jesse made an appearance in Tel Aviv last Thursday, and he probably got stuck there for a few days while many airlines were canceling flights in and out of Ben Gurion Airport. He was promoting a pet project at a local Tel Aviv theater – you can read more about his trip here. Apparently, he did some touristy things too (it was his first trip to Israel).

WHY, OH WHY, ARE THEY CASTING JESSE EISENBERG AS LEX LUTHOR!!!!! When the rumor was that Bryan Cranston was going to be LL, I was sooooo excited! JE looks like a 12 year old! Bryan Cranston would have been awesome!!!!!!!

    • Farah says:

Bryan was never considered. It was just overxeulous Breaking Bad fans. They were always looking for someone Henry’s age. Jesse is a year older/younger than him.

    • minime says:

He does look like a 12 year old and that will completely not resemble the comics!! This is a movie I will certainly not watch. Overall the casting (and costume choices) are odd, but this is the oddest of the choices.

    • SpookySpooks says:

I actually think he could nail this. He’s an amazing actor. Lex will probably be very creepy. I have more faith in him than in Ben as Batman or Gal as Wonder Woman. And we already know how much charisma Cavill has.

Also, I find him to be the most handsome guy in the movie.

      • minime says:

well, from that point of view you are right. He’s the best actor among them. I find Ben and Cavill both super boring. I don’t know Gal’s work. Maybe she’s not that bad.

  2. Blackbetty says:

Seems like odd casting? Doesn’t his hair always look like this?! I don’t like him, he looks similar to my ex.

  3. hutter says:

Maybe this is a wig? “His” hair is just too perfect to be real! 😛

  4. Mrs. Darcy says:

Well if memory serves Gene Hackman had a big curly wig, so maybe they will just give Jesse a bald cap? Also he is a younger version, maybe Lex isn’t bald yet (I know he was bald young in Smallville but not sure about comics). At first I thought the casting was weird but he has proven he can play creeps quite well, just hope he breaks out of the low key hipster mold a bit otherwise Lex will be boring.

  5. Adrien says:

I’m sorry but to me Jesse is the college version of perpetual high school boy, Michael Cerra. Maybe it’s Lex Luthor, the fratboy years. Idk, Batfleck’s too old for his role now. His co stars are very young.

    • Kay says:

Jesse is really not a frat boy at all nor does he give me that vibe if anything he gives me the nerd vibe. He is a decent actor and a playwright who had a play at Broadway with Vanessa Redgrave in it. He is very intelligent guy, runs his own theatre company i think. Couldn’t be further from a frat boy.

Does Lex have some kinda shock to make him lose his hair? I don’t read D/C outside of a few Frank Miller things so I can’t be sure. Or maybe he has hair until he decides to turn to a life of crime; all dramatically he stares in the mirror with a constipated with some crappy v/o monologue about how you have to become a monster to kill monsters or something and then shaves his head.

    • sigh((s)) says:

Yes. According to my ultra nerd family member, Lex was apparently a redhead? Then had an accident that left him bald. I still think he’s an odd choice. I don’t think he has the charisma for Luthor.

    • Zoe says:

Nerd here. Granted I’m more of a Marvel girl than DC so take what I say with a slight grain of salt. Yes, Lex was originally a red head. He lost his hair in a fire at one of his labs where he was experimenting with weapons tech. He blamed Superman for his baldness, and it’s one of the reasons he’s Supermans arch nemesis. Also he’s supposed to be roughly the same age as Superman as they grew up together. Since they’re so young maybe the lab fire will take place in this movie? Jess Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor is the only thing that interests me about this movie. Zack Synder is a mess and never should’ve been given characters of this amount of importance in the American comics genre. Marvel got Joss, DC went this route. They really want to solidify this “we’re so much edgier than Marvel” garbage. Instead they just look cheaper. (Don’t kill me DC people!)

      • MonicaQ says:

I’m totally Marvel too (it can’t be helped when at 6 your first comic is Moon Knight 😀 ) but I can believe it then that this will happen in this movie. It’s kind of…I don’t know, sad, that this is what D/C gets and Marvel’s been so lucky. The only bomb (potentially) is Ant-Man because he’s basically just an alcoholic inventor who beats his wife and we already have an alcoholic inventor minus the wife beating (Tony Stark).

  7. Mika says:

I bet he spends a shitload of money on haircare..lol

  8. Faye says:

I used to work with Jesse’s father as a college student in New York years ago. Jesse’s parents (especially the mother) were always trying to push the kids into show business, taking Jesse and his sister to auditions, making them miss school, etc. A few times Jesse and his mother dropped by the office, and I remember being struck by what a sullen hipster vibe he gave off even as a kid (even though we may not have called them hipsters then). He didn’t seem very enthused about it then – guess he’s changed his mind about show business.

Anyway, I don’t see him as Lex Luthor, but I guess they’ll emo the whole thing up anyway so he’ll fit that vision.

    • Lollipop says:

Doesn’t he have social anxiety and severe OCD? It could explain his slightyl neurotic behaviour.

    • Lilian says:

Faye, how cool that you know his parents! I am strangely attracted to Jesse… makes me think there is something wrong with me. And his hair is indeed glorious!

      • Faye says:

I don’t really know them – just worked with his dad years ago, and met his mother a few times. I was only 18 then, too, just a student doing part time office work – they probably never thought twice about me. Funny thing, though, Jesse looks exactly like his father, except for the wild hair.

I don’t think you’re necessarily wrong for being attracted to him – that kind of thing is very subjective :).

  9. Axl says:

Is this really the best time to be going to Israel for anyone?

  10. Ciria says:

Love his hair and his voice.

  11. GIRLFACE says:

He does have an excellent voice.

  12. Lydia says:

Worst casting ever. First of all, this guy is really short. There is nothing intimidating about him. Should’ve gone for Emmy- and Tony-winning Bryan Cranston.

  13. JenniferJustice says:

Bluugghccckkk! Really? Eisenberg? He’s a child! He looks like a child and a skinny non-threatening one at that. Maybe they’ll wow us with a super physcial transformation, but just from hearing he’s been cast for that role, I’m suspect and totally not feeling it. I also do not think he’s a great actor. He’s always the same to me – probably just himself being himself. In recent interviews, he seems to be becoming a douche. He needs to be careful and aware – don’t let that success go to your head buddy.
