Richard Armitage shows off his new beard in NYC: would you hit it?

FFN_RAM_IntoTheStorm_080414_51495246

This is for all of the ladies (and maybe a few gentlemen) who consistently request more Richard Armitage. Here you go. New photos! Armitage attended the NYC premiere of his new film, Into the Storm, last night. Armitage’s beard seems new. The beard made me look at him differently, I’ll admit. I’m usually not into Armitage that much – although he is my type in that he’s tall, English and he has the coloring I like – but the beard is working for me. Nice. Into the Storm is about storm-chasers… so the plot sounds a bit like Twister (remember that movie?). Armitage recently discussed this film:

“I play a schoolteacher from the Midwest,” said Armitage, whose scenes were mostly filmed in Detroit. “My character has lost his wife, and he’s busy being the father of two boys. A giant tornado hits town, and one of my sons goes missing. I have to go in search of the boy among all this weather, tornadoes and wreckage. It turns into a terrifying chase. This film grew into something even more substantial than I expected. The effects are spectacular. Plus, there is a human element to this story that’s really well-crafted.”

[From The Columbus Dispatch]

Armitage will also be seen this winter as Thorin Oakenshield in The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. I don’t care. I’m sorry. I’m so over trying to feign interest in The Hobbit movies.

Anyway… bearded Armitage. Would you hit it? I might. Good voice, tall, with a great beard? Yes, I probably would.

I’d throw him some… without the beard. He looks pretty hot without it.

    • outstandingworldcitizen says:

Loved him on MI-5 and a host of other British TV productions BUT the thing that has stopped me from calling him hot is that he reminds me of broke version of Hugh Jackson. Just needed to get that out.

      • Elizabeth says:

Really? I think of him Hugh Jackman as the poor man’s version of Richard Armitage! RA is pretty darned closed to perfect. And HJ’s singing voice is irritating in the extreme.

  2. Sandy123 says:

My favourite Richard will always be North and South Richard. I’m not a beard fan, so this kind of takes a bit away from him for me. But I’m sure it’s better in person than in photos.

  3. Tiffany says:

    Yep. Yep. Yep.

  4. L says:

Yes. Always and forever. Mr. Thornton for life.

  5. Lilacflowers says:

Beautiful eyes, but the beard? No.

  6. MediaB says:

He’s in the middle of a run of the Crucible in London at the moment so it’s a not a fashion choice.

And poor him having to hop on a plane to NY on his one day of the week off, then get on the plane straight back again for the play!

  7. mkyarwood says:

Yep. North and South forever, forget the Hobbit.

  8. Anthea says:

    Yes, every time.

For anyone who hasn’t seen it, he was in the BBC series Spooks from series 7 – 9 and he’s amazing in it.

    • Mattihairie says:

It’s on Netflix in the US, but has been renamed “MI5.” The term “spooks” has negative connotations in America.

I’m only up to season 2 so far!

      • Anthea says:

Ahhh, yes – I didn’t mean to use an offensive term; I do remember hearing that that word had a negative connotation in the US but in England it’s so widely associated with secret services I totally fogot. The show is still referred to as that here. Apologies if I offended anyone…

Series two is good – but it really picks up steam around series 6-8 – they’re my favourites anyway 🙂

      • Mattihairie says:

Aw, I doubt you offended anyone! I just mentioned because I initially tried searching Netflix under the UK title and was a bit perplexed. I’m enjoying the young Matthew MacFayden (Mr. Darcy) years, but looking forward to Mr. Thornton.

      • Stef Leppard says:

It does? What is the negative connotation?

      • Mattihairie says:

It’s a racial slur used for African-Americans. Or it used to be. I think it was more common in the 1970’s.

      • Dara says:

@Mattihairie – Enjoy MI-5! I started watching it years ago mostly to see the London locations and then quickly fell in love with the other “scenery” – Matthew MacFadyen, David Oyelowo, Raza Jeffrey, Rupert Penry-Jones, Richard Armitage and Max Brown. I’m awarding serious bonus points to the casting director – bravo! There are some un-apologetically badass women characters as well…

I’m glad it’s on Netflix, you can get DVD’s on Amazon as well, although some seasons are god-awfully expensive considering the small number of episodes that the British consider a “series”, which is a “season” to us Americans.

      • sigh((s)) says:

Spooks is great. I thought the writing started going awry in season 8 and I couldn’t even watch season 10, but up til then it was fab. Strong females and sexy guys. What’s not to love?

      • DiamondRottweiler says:

Philip Roth has a book (The Human Stain) in which the slur “spooks” is the major plot point, just FYI if you wanna see example of how it’s been used as an idiom in the states.

    • EscapedConvent says:

He IS???? I’m going to Netflix now. Thank you for the tip on the name. There’s nothing better than a good British spy series!

  9. in_theory says:

I don’t mind the beard so much as the very short hair. I think he looks better when it’s a little longer.

    • grabbyhands says:

I was about to say that same thing. I love the beard, but I like his hair a little shaggier.

  10. LAK says:

The beard is for ‘the Crucible’ play in London.

  11. Froop says:

This movie sounds terrible. I don’t understand why he doesn’t get better work. But yes I totally would, over and over again.

  12. Adrien says:

Where’s the beard? I don’t see her. Lol, yet another naughty headline from CB. And you can stop pretending to like The Hobbit. They’re really boring movies (sorry, Sir Ian).
Would I hit it? Nah, I’m loyal to Lee Pace.

    • Lauli says:

      Armitage as well… lol
Have you seen the pic of this lovely couple in Washington Square park?

      • sigh((s)) says:

Had to look that up.. Cute. I don’t know why people are in denial that they’re together. You don’t spend holidays with each other’s families if you’re just casual friends. I know there are a lot of crazy shippers out there, but in every rumor there is usually a grain of truth…

      • Dara says:

So cute! I’ll confess I had a brief mourning period until I came to terms – but they seem like such a good match I couldn’t stay sad for long. Mazel tov boys!

They both guard their personal lives so zealously I feel a wee bit skeevy even discussing them, and that rarely happens. But there’s a great moment in one of the ‘making of’ Hobbit videos Peter Jackson did where Richard and Lee shoot each other a look over the top of Peter’s head as he’s talking…blink and you’ll miss it. It wasn’t overtly romantic or sexy, more of a I-know-what-you’re-thinking glance. That was the first time I thought to myself, “Holy Sh#t – they’re a couple!” And that was before I knew about any of the rumors…

      • sigh((s)) says:

Same, Dara! I had a brief mourning as well, but they’re both so damn cute and I hope they’re ragingly happy.
Which video was it? I’m assuming from all the video diaries? I’m in the minority here of actually liking The Hobbit movies.

      • M.A.F says:

I was wondering if anyone was going to bring that up.

@sigh((s))-I too like the Hobbit movies but I wished Jackson would have laid off some of the CGI.

      • Dara says:

@sigh((s)) – yes, it was one of the video diaries Peter Jackson uploaded to his Facebook page, I wish I could remember exactly which one… not the first I think, but it was before Smaug was released if that helps. I’ll post a link if I manage to find it…

I want desperately to like the Hobbit movies (mostly because of my abiding affection for RA), but just can’t get there. All of Jackson’s movies are visually stunning, but he seems so caught up in the visuals and effects that he just can’t bring himself to edit out the bits that don’t move the story along and the end product suffers as a result. Did the barrel scene really need to go on that long? I could have gone to the loo and come back without missing anything relevant to the plot.

      • sigh((s)) says:

I wish he had laid off some of the CGI as well. Especially the leader of those underground things (can’t remember what his name was). It seriously looked like he had a gigantic sac hanging off of his chin. So gross.
Re: the barrel scene- I think your have to take into consideration that this is more of a children’s book, and I think he’s having a bit more fun with it. Plot wise it could have been condensed into 2 2 hour movies, but it’s PJ. He’s nothing if not thorough.

  13. QQ says:

Engh! No… Im not into Wolfpussy Beards.. And they downright OFFEND me on beautiful dudes, Like : BRO YOU ARE FINE?!? Why are you doing this? Why you wanna look like an unwashed hobo?

  14. Elise says:

That face AND voice between my thighs…? Where do I sign?

  15. Frankdiabetes says:

I’ve seen the movie, my husband won tickets to some pre-screen thing, and I can confirm: it’s pretty terrible. Like Twister but with better special effects, zero plot or character development, and worse acting. I didn’t realize Richard Armitage was Thorin Oakenshield in The Hobbit trilogy, and it surprised me that this movie was such bilge.

  16. TheRealMaya says:

I love Richard – will always be hot.

I loved him in North & South, Robin Hood as Gisborne, Spooks and Strike Back season 1.

This man is the only one who can make me leaving my poor husband. Especially if he looks at me the same way he looks at Margaret at the train station in the end in North and South.

    • FrenchLily says:

Oh yes, the way he looks at her in this scene is just… * fans herself *

And his voice. I’m in love with his voice !

  17. Tiffany27 says:

Is that Lori? I do not miss her at all on TWD.

  18. Arhodo says:

    Heck yes I would!

  19. shaboo says:

does he remind anyone else of Rupert Everett?

  20. MissMary says:

I’d have to try him with and without the beard, just to be sure…

  21. Reece says:

You love rhetorical questions Kaiser. I mean, obviously.
    This movie looks Gawdful though!

  22. kri says:

I wouldn’t hit it, but I might spank it. I’m on the fence with this one…

  23. Anguishedcorn says:

Weird.. usually a beard improves, but in this case, it doesn’t. He’s much hotter to me without the beard.

  24. solo says:

    Like a house on fire!

  25. bella says:

Yes, yes and yes. I knew Richard when I watched The Hobbit and I felt in love forever.
I know that he and Lee are a couple but I don’t care. They are handsome, talented and low-key actors and because they aren’t hungry for fame, they deserve all my respect and admiration.
Richard don’t get great works but he’s awesome in Crucible. The reviews are sensational and I really believe he’ll get a big role after that.

  26. GIRLFACE says:

    Yes I would.

  27. Creneer says:

Yes, a thousand times yes! His work in the other mentionned shows, including Robin Hood, is fantastic and that face….!

  28. Fernando says:

Isn’t Richard dating Lee Pace? Or allegedly dating him?

  29. H2O says:

Try your local libraries for MI-5. It’s usually just sitting on the shelf. I watched all the seasons in 2 weeks. It’s pretty grisly so once was enough for me. Lucas . . . . ah.

  30. delorb says:

Have to pass on this one. I just don’t get the appeal. He gets extra points if he’s actually with Lee Pace (so sexy), but not enough to put him over the top.

  31. Aila says:

Yes, definitely! Have had a crush on this man for years. The voice and the really intense eyes and the kind of shy/quiet dignity thing he has going on is really attractive to me.

(Don’t care if he’s with Lee — they both seem lovely! Both decent low-key guys. Good for them.)

  32. caitie says:

I love him!! Prefer without beard though. In North and South he is so dreamy.. divine man. more please!
