Jennifer Aniston whisked Justin Theroux away to Bora Bora for his 43rd birthday

Justin Theroux turned 43 years old on August 10th. Surprisingly, he did not celebrate his birthday in Cabo with his main lady, Jennifer Aniston. Nope. Instead, they thought outside the vacation-box and Jennifer whisked him off to Bora Bora. Seriously! I’m kind of proud of her for doing that. She’s such a creature of habit (to the extreme), I honestly think it’s a good sign that she’s branching out and looking for different beach vacation locales.

It was a Bora Bora kind of birthday for Justin Theroux! The actor jetted to the Tahitian island with fiancée Jennifer Aniston on Aug. 7 for a week-long stay in paradise that also marked two years since the couple became engaged.

“It [was] a romantic trip to celebrate their engagement anniversary and Justin’s birthday,” says an insider. “It’s their first vacation together in Bora Bora and they were excited about the trip.”

It was also a nice break from work – Theroux, 43, has been filming his HBO series, The Leftovers (which was renewed for a second season Tuesday), in New York City, while Aniston, 45, has been busy promoting Aveeno and her haircare line, Living Proof.

During a July 28 event at stylist Chris McMillan’s hair salon in L.A., Theroux surprised Aniston by popping in to steal a kiss.

“Jen had no idea that he was stopping by and she squealed with excitement when she saw him,” says a source. “They genuinely looked very happy together. They kissed hello and Jen almost got flustered. You could tell that she really liked having Justin there. Justin kept smiling at her excitement. He was very sweet to her.”

While wedding plans are still in the works, Aniston has a heavy workload in the coming weeks. At the end of the month she will be doing press for the Elmore Leonard adaptation Life of Crime. In September, she is scheduled to attend the Toronto Film Festival, where her film, Cake, will premiere, while her Peter Bogdanovich film, She’s Funny That Way, which re-teams her with her Marley & Me costar Owen Wilson, will debut in Venice.

Yet regardless of workloads or distance, the couple continues to make an effort to stay close, says the insider. “Despite their long engagement, they do seem very happy together,” the source adds. “Jen is just happy to be sharing her life with Justin.”

[From People]

Oh… I didn’t realize she was going to be in Venice and Toronto. Something to look forward to! It feels like Life of Crime keeps getting pushed back further and further, so much so that I kind of forgot about it. We’ll see about the other films. Do you think Justin will come with her to Venice and Toronto? Last year, he came to TIFF to support her and who can say no to Venice?

And yes, The Leftovers has been renewed. I’ve read a bunch of “think pieces” about why the series is more of a hate-watch than anything else. Go ahead and blame Damon Lindelof for that, not Justin. Everything Lindelof touches turns to crap. Justin recently gave a surprisingly long interview to Vulture about the series, which you can read here.

Her getting all flustered and squeally because he stopped in at her hair appt seems so pitiful. Don’t normal boyfriends do that kind of stuff all the time?

    • Esmom says:

My husband/former boyfriends would never in a million years stop by a salon while I was there. Nor would I really want them to, frankly.

    • Charlotte says:

4 years and three kids later, I get all squeal-y and emotional if my man surprises me with a quick hello kiss. I like that she’s appreciative of things like that – the little gestures. If this story is even true.

    • sputnik says:

being happy to see your boyfriend is pitiful?

      • Francesca says:

Being in a relationship where your partner does not make you feel special and loved routinely, is pitiful.

      • sputnik says:

that’s a pretty big leap there. unless you know something about this relationship that everyone else doesn’t. i know that if i hadn’t seen my bf for a while and he surprised me then i’d be pretty damn happy.

      • doofus says:

Francesca, while I agree with your sentiment that your partner should make you feel loved, none of us have ANY idea of how “routinely” Theroux makes Aniston feel loved or special.

maybe it’s all the time, maybe it’s hardly ever, but you seem to be implying that you know how often it is…which I doubt.

    • doofus says:

my bf wouldn’t ever stop by when I was getting my hair did, but if he does stop by unexpectedly somewhere I am, I get all happy, too. and we’ve been together 20+ years.

agree with sputnik…being happy to see the bf/fiance is pitiful? I think it’s a bit more pitiful if he makes an effort and you DON’T appreciate it. the small things DO matter, and showing appreciation FOR those small things matters, too.

    • Jess says:

No?? Most men avoid salons like the plague, it seems kinda sweet to me!

  2. eliza says:

I LOVE The Leftovers and am really glad it was picked up again. I cannot wait till the next episode. Not since GOT and TWD have I actually been excited about a show and care about what is going on with all the characters.

    • sputnik says:

me too. i’ve been loving the leftovers. i find myself thinking about it all the time. that nora episode. jeez.

      • JH says:

Right? It’s so good and JT is really attractive.

      • eliza says:

How about the episode where Matt was trying to get the bank loan payment together? That Nora episode was really good too.

I really get emotional during this show. Lots of sadness and for me to feel their sadness means they are doing something right.

I think Theroux and Scott Glenn are amazing and I really like the girls who play Jill and her bff.

      • sputnik says:

oh god. the matt episode was brutal. chris eccleston is brilliant.

i find it very moving. the whole show is seeped in a multitude of emotions, grief, rage, confusion. everyone is just struggling in different ways to come to terms with something inexplicable. i love it.

    • GiGi says:

YES! I haven’t read anything the critics have written about The Leftovers, but I am crazy addicted to that show. I haven’t wanted to watch an episode of a show more than once since Lost – but I am watching Leftover eps twice – there’s always stuff I miss in the first viewing.

I think if you’re someone who really needs to know what’s going on – this show is not for you. But if you’re into the loose ends / Twin Peaks sort of thing – you will adore this show.

      • eliza says:

Exactly. If you need things spelled out immediately, turn the channel.

Like you, I watch them a couple times. I think the cast is great and the series keeps me curious.

      • sputnik says:

the critical response i’ve seen has been fairly positive. at least from the places like av club, vulture, ny times and hitfix. not that that’s the important thing. i mean, i can see how it’s not to everyone’s taste, but it’s an undeniably well made show.

    • E says:

I am already preparing for withdraw symptoms after the end of first season. If it was me in charge I would renew it for ten seasons more.

      • eliza says:

Me too. It is getting so interesting. The two pregnant girls, the crazy dogs, the crazy but not so crazy father of Theroux’s character, the meaning of the chain smoking. So many things!

    • Becky1 says:

Yeah, I really like “The Leftovers” too. Like most shows, though, there are some episodes that are much better than others. The episode focusing on Nora was awesome (the best all season IMO) and the one that focused on Matt was particularly good, too.

I don’t find Justin Theroux’s hipster/metrosexual real life look attractive but he is really hot on the show. He’s a good looking guy-I understand why Jennifer’s attracted to him.

    • anoymous says:

You must be paid to write this, seen the show would not return to see it. Poorly written does not make sense. I can bet Jennifer Aniston pulled strings to get that sitcom to stay on and save her boyfriend public embarrassment, earned herself some vacation time. Last time we heard about Justin birthday he got himself an engagement. Instead of this gigolo, John Stamos and Jennifer Aniston seemed like a good match.

  3. Abbott says:

Stephen Huvane really hit all the bullet points on this People article. He promoted 2 movies, 1 terrible show, an engagement, and a hair salon all in one leaked story.

    • AM says:

I know it was his birthday, but celebrating your engagement anniversary? That seems like a put up or shut up moment to me.

    • HappyMom says:

      Yes-lord, it’s exhausting.

    • TC says:

Explains why he’s considered the hardest working publicist in Hollywood and why he’s got at least half of Aniston’s fortune.

  4. Gina says:

Why go through the hoopla of an engagement if you’re not going to get married. They’re not getting any younger after all. Like Jack Nicholson said to Shirley McLaine in Terms of Endearment when she said she waned to start dating again…”there are only so many days left till Christmas.” ergo you’re 45 Jennifer, not 25

  5. Jaderu says:

I’ve been listening all morning to the new Michael Cera album and while I’m reading Celebitchy I’m imagining Jennifer/Justin, Gwyneth/Brad, and George/Amal all boning to the music. This is what pinot grigio for breakfast will do to you kids. Stay in school and eat your veggies.

    • Francesca says:

Is it good? Love him, and curious about the album…

      • Jaderu says:

        It’s actually very good.

You can listen to it on Bandcamp. It’s called “true that”.

    • Abbott says:

I’m sorry: were the words “Michael Cera” and “album” just used in the same sentence? Not sure whether I should tell you to put down the wine or pour yourself another glass 😉

    • maybeiamcrazy says:

Michael Cera album? Surely not the one in Superbad right?

      • Erinn says:

Very much so. He randomly just dropped like 18 songs the other day. I have yet to listen, and I can’t stream at work, but I’m super curious.

      • Lady D says:

Are you sure? Kind of sharing maybeiamcrazy’s skepticism here.
edit: What do you know. Rolling Stone.com says “The LP features a mix of lo-fi folk and noisy experimentation.”

  6. pinsta says:

Rachel(jennifer) is still so much beautiful.

  7. Lilacflowers says:

    Engagement anniversary? Seriously?

    • HappyMom says:

Right!? Usually people celebrate engagement anniversaries by actually getting married.

    • Lucky Charm says:

I’ve heard of celebrating WEDDING anniversaries, obviously, but never heard of celebrating an engagement anniversary. Yay, we’ve been engaged for two years and still don’t have plans to make it down the aisle, let’s toast!!!

  8. Loopy says:

What does he ever do for her?

    • Bee says:

hmmmmmm…crickets. This trip on her dime, “their” house paid by her. He does help her shed the victim image her PR team created a decade ago.

      • Lucky Charm says:

Now instead of the “victim”, she’s just Waitying instead. Jennifer Waitiston 🙂

  9. Hissyfit says:

So people celebrate engagement anniversary now instead of actually getting married? Lol. So she was finally able to get some privacy by not vacationing in Mexico which she said she craves but pr team releases this detailed infos?

I hope her new movie will do better in the festivals this year. The movie she had there last year is going straight to VOD right?

    • someone says:

      ^ This!!
2nd Engagement anniversary? I’d be embarrassed to have that pointed out if I were them.

    • Bee says:

Yep to Video on Demand and a limited theater run. Embarrassing! Her fans were claiming it was her Oscar role!

    • Emma - the JP Lover says:

@Hissyfit, who wrote: “So people celebrate engagement anniversary now instead of actually getting married? Lol. So she was finally able to get some privacy by not vacationing in Mexico which she said she craves but pr team releases this detailed infos?”

      My thoughts as well.

    • TC says:

Yes, Life of Crime is going straight to VOD and she’ll need to seriously work the festival circuits this fall for her film Cake because it still has no distributor as of yet. She’ll need to secure a distributor if she wants to get it in theaters.

  10. someone says:

Wow, she can plan a getaway to Bora Bora but can’t squeeze in a wedding? They are seriously NOT serious about getting married.

    • HappyMom says:

      This.

    • Darkladi says:

      WORD

    • Virgilia Coriolanus says:

I’m wondering if they are gonna squeeze in a wedding while they’re there. I read that their wedding planner said that it was going to be a beach wedding (surprise, surprise)….but I’m thinking that they might squeeze in a wedding because it was in PEOPLE. I don’t understand why they would get an article in PEOPLE because of a vacation.

But, then again–it might just them wanting to be featured in PEOPLE. No clue. We’ll see.

  11. JH says:

I love The Leftovers. I look forward to it each week and he is really good.

    • mia girl says:

I don’t know that I LOVE The Leftovers, I do like it and I’m definitely into watching it…agree that Theroux is very good in it.

I’m a bit relieved it was renewed because there are still so many unanswered questions that I was frustrated it might end in 3 episodes and be done (I might just have to read the book).

As mentioned up thread, the Nora episode was so good. Lots of interesting characters and potential. I can do without the whole “hugging” guy and his pack of baby mamas. The storyline and none of those actors really appeal to me.

      • lisa2 says:

Do the people watching the show realize that they have said over and over and over that there are not going to be any answers.

      • mia girl says:

lisa2 – “Do the people watching the show realize that they have said over and over and over that there are not going to be any answers”

Not sure if you meant there to be a disparaging tinge to your comment but it comes across that way. But since I fit your description of “people watching the show” and you replied to my comment about “answers”, I’ll explain my previous comment.

Sure, this is not a show that is going hand you any straight answers… if I was interested in that type of program I definitely would not be investing my time in The Leftovers. And that lack of straightforward narrative is clearly one of a few reasons why many people have stopped watching. Can’t blame them.

What I AM waiting for and was referring to is for some of the storylines to align a bit more so that I can have my theories. This is a show not necessarily about “what happened” but about what happens after. I get that. But as a viewer, I also know they are leading us into some reveals, some questions will be answered and no doubt those will only lead to new questions.

Not sure if you watch the program, but I really enjoy the tension of the program and feel many of the actors are delivering strong performances. I’m looking forward to another season.

  12. Kim1 says:

Great news for Justin he gets to spend months in NYC filming the second season of The Leftovers.

    • Bee says:

Yes, while Jen spends months in LA. More time apart for these two coming up.

      • ann says:

Justin and Uncle Terry will be over the moon! More time for them to play and he can be himself. In real life, Liv would suit him more IMO.
I watched 3 episodes of the Leftovers. Don’t like JA’s acting at all, but Justin is really good in it, but the 3rd episode I laid awake for hours. The show is depressing and not my bag. Too out there or corny for me.

  13. Jaded says:

Bore-uh & Bore-uh visit Bora-Bora. Good for them. Hope he takes that gun necklace off when he goes surfing, you know sharks and barracuda are attracted by bright shiny things. Better cover up his teeth too….

  14. Bee says:

Those two films do not even have distributors yet & are trying to get someone desperate enough to take on the job.

More then likely these films will be pushed aside like Life of Crime & come out on Video on Demand.

  15. Midnight says:

If we are lucky, both of them will stay in Bora Bora and we’ll never have to hear from them again. And yes, came here to respond, but didn’t bother to read the article.

    • michele says:

+1 they remind me of LeAnn and Eddie, he’s a snakey gold digger she’s holding on for dear life and paying for everything! LOL

  16. The Original G says:

She was flogging Life of Crime last year at TIFF and no one picked it up.
    WTF?
I’m enjoying The Leftovers. He’s got the acting chops in the family,

  17. Noushin says:

We have got enough fun in London, so we don’t need to import more trouble to talk to wrong people eg Goli who will never see me In my life. She did too much mess in 2010 in front of Pam et al, so enough scandal from Golshid Ardehalia. It will never happen in my life as we saw the consequences.

  18. Raised Brow says:

I was waiting for that last sentence to read: “Jen is just happy to be sharing her life with ‘someone'”.

  19. Mischa Jane says:

I wish I was Jen’s other half so she’d take me to Bora Bora. I could really use that right about now!

  20. floridaseaturtle says:

Hairdresser related story.. I caught the H1N1 Flu Virus on Jan 1st this year. I was in a coma for almost 2 weeks and in the hospital for over a month. I still have to use a cane or walker now. Anyway, after I got out, I made an appt. with the hairdresser, as I hadn’t been in 6 months, and couldn’t stand it any longer. My husband took me, along with my walker, then he made a quick trip to the store. After my shampoo, I couldn’t get all the way up from the low shampoo recliner, and one of the guys was trying to help me, but you could tell that he was a little nervous, and I have middle age weight. So we were all struggling for a minute when all of a sudden, as I was trying to push up while looking at the floor, I saw these big feet come out of nowhere, and I was sprung up by someone lifting me under my arms in a second flat. It was my husband, and I just didn’t register that those were his shoes, or even realize that he was there and not at the store. I was soooo happy, and giddy to see him. I giggled like a teenager and thanked the other gentleman that was trying to help. So, that is my romantic hairdresser story. lol.

    • doofus says:

sorry to hear about your illness, but what a sweet story!

    • mia girl says:

That is a really lovely story. Thanks for sharing it. You are very lucky to have a husband who clearly loves & cares for you. 🙂

I hope you are getting stonger everyday.

    • mayamae says:

That’s a very sweet story. Good luck to you, and hope your health continues to improve.

      • floridaseaturtle says:

Thanks! I am lucky to have him. And yeah, I tell people now get your flu shots. We never did, but when this happened he took the kids to CVS and everyone got one. That H1N1 is a beast, but I am slowly getting better. Thanks!

    • Jess says:

Whoa, you just scared me into getting a flu shot this year, lol. The one year I got the shot I ended up with the flu, so even though they say it doesn’t cause it in my mind it did, a friend of mine gets them for her entire family and they still get it every single year, it’s a mild version but still 3 days of hell.

Your salon story was so sweet and definitely romantic. Sounds like you almost didn’t make it, so scary!!

  21. michele says:

She’s so pathetic and probably always will be. I never hear about her being swept away and being spoiled. She’s always doing the paying, the planning, the courting, the gifting, the buying, the this and that —THE EVERYTHING! Sad situation Manniston! You remind me of LeAnn Rimes.

    • N.R says:

      Just as pathetic as you.

    • springingforward says:

Her PR guy should quit pushing all of these boring a** stories about her. Noone cares any more. It isn’t that I wish her ill, but she is vapid in interviews and an untalented actor. No more beauty products where the voice over has to tell me how beautiful she is (??). It just keeps me from buying the stuff she endorses.

  22. Hello to all, how is everything, I think every one is getting more from this site, and your views are good designed for new viewers.
