Chris Hemsworth: ‘The fame, the parties, the women, I did that stuff back home’

0115 Cover_Hi

Well hello Mr. Hemsworth! Chris Hemsworth covers the new issue of GQ and this is just a gorgeous editorial – go here to see the slideshow. Some black & white pics, some color, his hair is a good length and his muscles look boss. And I’m saying that as a woman who doesn’t really get hot for Chris. He’s just not my type, I guess. Or he’s just too “obvious” a beefcake, but I’ll admit, I lingered on the photos. Anyway, Chris is promoting Blackhat, that cyber-crime movie which looks sort of awful. You can read the full interview here (the magazine will be on newsstands the 23rd). Some highlights:

“The fame, the parties, the women—I did that stuff back home,” Chris Hemsworth tells GQ’s David Katz of settling down. “I got away with a lot more over there,” he says. “Then I came here”—to film 2010’s Ca$h—“and sort of started over.”

Hemsworth says that having a family was the last thing he did that really scared him. “I’m good, man,” he says of his diaper-changing skills. How quickly can he change one? “Depends on how messy it is. Sometimes you gotta give ’em a hose-down.”

Hemsworth admits that he’s protective over little brother Liam. “I’ve watched Liam do things I did at his age, like being in relationships he shouldn’t be in, or being reckless just to prove a point. And I had no empathy. My mom had to remind me I was the same way.”

Hemsworth says his older brother Luke would give him a hard time when he was starting out, too—and that it may have saved his career. “Back when I was still on the soap, I became incredibly insecure and full of anxiety because I didn’t know if I was any good. I spent years being angsty, constantly telling people I wasn’t just part of a soap opera, that I was a real artist. And I remember Luke sort of snapping, telling me to shut up, that he was sick of hearing it.” He credits Luke for pulling him out of his head and making him a less self-conscious actor. That, and Dancing with the Stars. Hemsworth competed on the Aussie version in 2006, finishing fifth. “After that show, I could never pull the serious, self-important card again.”

Hemsworth’s buddy and fellow actor Matt Damon also makes a cameo in the story. “We became friends around the time I started to work, and I’ve really benefited from watching how he handles himself,” Hemsworth says of Damon. “Matt’s just a normal guy who has the movie-star thing figured out.” Damon lends Hemsworth and Katz bikes and sunglasses for their mountain-biking adventure.

At the end of the interview, they head back to Damon’s house, where Hemsworth makes Katz breakfast. “Today started with me introducing you to my friend, then a bike ride, then cooking you pancakes,” Hemsworth says. “I think this is the most romantic interview I’ve ever done.”

[From GQ]

Yeah, I skimmed the first page of the interview online, and it didn’t really seem like Hemsworth was telling all about his life and his family. He’s just a movie star on the rise, with a growing brood and press commitments. The most interesting thing to me is what he says about Liam: “I’ve watched Liam do things I did at his age, like being in relationships he shouldn’t be in…” Totally about Miley Cyrus, I’m assuming. That’s Liam’s only major relationship and it was such a mess. But remember, back then, Liam was really young, just like Miley. They shouldn’t have been in such a serious relationship. Chris is right. But Liam had to learn that for himself.

Soooo…. I only want to see him with his shirt off, long hair, and wielding the Thor hammer. Anything less, I’m not interested. I don’t even care about his life. I just want to objectify him.

  2. ellesbelles says:

He’s growing on me. He’s lovely, and the fact that he’s family oriented and clearly finds his wife to be the most beautiful woman on the planet and the center of his world is so sweet.

I like you Chris. Well done sir

  3. scout says:

Oh, you dirty dirty Jeans and leather clad manly man! How delicious are you?

  4. Birdie says:

I saw the trailer for Blackhead in the cinema and it looked like a bad B-movie.

  5. Lilacflowers says:

He’s not my physical type but I do appreciate that he is gorgeous. He always comes across as well- grounded and a great guy. Didn’t know about the friendship with Damon. That’s cool. Don’t know about Blackhat but I enjoy him as Thor, thought he was good in Rush, and am looking forward to his whale movie

    • MtnRunner says:

He’s not my cup o’ tea either, but if he’s picking friends like Damon, then he’s ok in my book. Even if his wife is a famewhore, he seems to be happy with his brood. Good on him.

The price on those clothes is just mind-blowing.

    • silken_floss says:

Your comment made me click the link and *yikes!*… Yeah, I could never afford clothes like that. I’ll just stick to my Forever 21 clothes lol.. But he does look great. The camera definately loves him

Holy Christmas-Come-Early! Those photos are smoking hot. Lawd have mercy…

… wait, what was I saying? Right – that is one of his better interviews as well; at no point did I feel the need to look away and pretend he was saying something else. I love his admiration of Luke and that last line is really quite cute.

Plus, I imagine I will be fantasizing about CHemboy making me pancakes at Matt’s for a while. What’s Matt doing? Maybe he’s squeezing the orange juice for me?

    • Marty says:

He HAS been looking particularly good lately. Damn him. I swear his new haircut makes him look 5 years younger.

      • j.eyre says:

Okay, well, younger isn’t going to help me any, I already feel lecherous when it comes to him.

Fanty keeps throwing him in my path to distract me from Chris Evans; he is doing many things right these days (Blackhat notwithstanding. Mr. Rochester’s comment about the trailer is “When a movie about an engineer is not written by engineers”)

  8. Ripley says:

Ummm… He looks like a dirty James Vanderbeek to me. “I don’t want your life.” Is now repeating in my head over and over.

  9. jammypants says:

This cover is waaaaay better than the People one. Unf. I love his outlook on fame.
