Marion Cotillard in Bottega Veneta at the BAFTA event: stunning or boring?

Here are more photos from last night’s pre-Globes BAFTA LA event in LA. I was going to focus on Rosamund Pike, but then I saw Marion Cotillard. WOW. Marion wore this lovely Bottega Veneta and I’m in love with it. Forget Jaime King’s Valentino gown, THIS is my new favorite pre-Globes event gown. Look at the simplicity of this – off-white, high-neck gown with pockets and a small belt. But the way she wears it, plus the chest pattern and hint of sparkle… this gown is next-level. It’s the perfect gown to wear to a pre-Globes event. It’s a great party dress, it’s comfortable, it’s pretty. Yay! Some people believe Marion should have been a bigger Best Actress contender this year, and that’s what this dress says to me. If we had paid more attention to Marion, we could have been enjoying fashion moments like this more often.

Rosamund Pike in Alexander McQueen. I’m not really crazy about this? It’s interesting, for sure, and it’s good to see Rosamund still bringing interesting fashion moments. But the top part is giving her linebacker shoulders in an effort to make her waist look smaller (and her waist is already really small for a lady who just had a baby). The proportions are just off. I know that was the design goal, but still. Not really that cute.

Anna Kendrick in Andrew Gn. Sigh… Anna could do so much better than this. I actually don’t think Anna is a “fashion girl” which is fine, but she needs a better stylist or something.

Cara Delevingne in Mulberry. Well well well. I actually think Cara looks very pretty here. Is that because she dialed down her smirk? Is it because she didn’t look stoned out of her mind? Perhaps. The Mulberry dress isn’t my cup of tea, but the whole look is pretty solid. Not bad, Cara.

I feel like if they made a live version of Rugrats, Cara Delevigne would be a shoo in.

  2. Lee says:

    Marion looks amazing!

  3. InvaderTak says:

Everyone seems a bit off season. It’s January. Just becasue the spring/summer lines are out doesn’t mean wear them this instant does it? I guess in CA it doesn’t matter but still.

And CD needs to go away now. She’s outlived her novelty and doesn’t have any real jobs to justify getting invites to these things. She always looks stoned/drunk/over it where ever she goes and it’s annoying.

  4. RocketMerry says:

Cara looks really, really angry here. Like she would swallow you whole, spit you out, chew on your cold dead body for a while and then spit you out again (’cause you know, calories).
She’s scarier than the scary Holsen twin.

  5. Charlie says:

Marion’s dress looks bad, almost like an apron.
    Anna and Rosamund look awful.
I don’t like Cara’s dress, but she sure is stunning with proper hair and makeup.

    • SpookySpooks says:

Stunning? She has beautiful eyes. The rest of her, not so much. Her sister Poppy is much prettier.
Is she really dating Jack O’Connell?

  6. Kiki says:

Marion is perfection! Love this look very much.
The others though… so much black and white.
I’m still waiting for that moment when Rosamund is going to knock us down, you know? I can feel the potential for a major fashion moment with her, but it’s like she’s still warming us up for dresses to come.

  7. MJ says:

Cara’s look suits her, the rest are just meh to me. I especially dislike Anna’s outfit. It looks budget.

  8. MrsBPitt says:

They are all horrible, except for Marion…she look like perfection!!! Very disappointed in Rosamund’s style…that dress is probably on of the worst I’ve seen. And she has beautiful hair, but I wish that she would change it up a bit, once in awhile!

At least the color (and shine) is on point. Imagine that color on Goop, it would be sooo much better than that straw she insists on wearing.

Marion looks so lovely. I’m really hoping she scores an Oscar nod on Thursday.

  10. Lucy2 says:

Marion is so gorgeous, she can usually pull off very unusual fashion choices. This is one of the more subdued, and I think it looks great on her.
Rosamunde’s looks awkward, Anna’s is okbut probably too casual for the event, and Cara’s looks ridiculous.

  11. bns says:

Cara is the only interesting one. Zzzzz to the rest.

  12. QQ says:

I dont want Rosamund Pike to happen at all These types of Terrible fashions can Only Help in the Rita Ora way LOL

Everyone looks hideous in this batch..either aged/dowdy or Imcomprehensible

  13. lunchcoma says:

Marion looks fine, but I wish she would have opted for something more interesting on one of her few off days from DIor.

  14. Lotta says:

I think that Cara is beautiful and that she has a real interesting look. The dress is OK for someone young and with her personality. Would have liked it better with out the bortom part.

Marion’s dress look like a fancy nightgown, or at least something you put on when you want to curl up in a sofa at home.

  15. Shambles says:

Cara’s I-will-kill-you-with-my-smoldering-eyeballs makeup gives me life, plus the fact that I’m finally seeing photos of her not wearing a facial expression that says “I’m a third of the way through chewing a burrito, hold up bro.”

  16. Ann says:

Cotillard always looks chic. And she gives good face.

  17. Frosty says:

The top of Rosamund’s dress look like the top of a garment bag.

    • MrsBPitt says:

She looks like that episode of the Carol Burnett show when she plays Scarlet O’hara and dresses with the curtains and leaves the curtain rods in it!

  18. Tig says:

I love Anna K’s dress. To me, Marion C’s dress is basic white Grecian gown with sprinkles down the front. Don’t get me started on that monstrosity that Cara has on.

  19. bettyrose says:

Ugh with the legs crossed gotta pee look. You’re better than that Rosamund.

  20. Mimz says:

I Love Marion. In some other actress this dress could look flat and boring but she really makes everything look so chic!!
Hmm… i have nothing else for the other ones except the word BLAH.

  21. lrm says:

Marion, to me, is like Cate Blanchett-she can wear pretty much anything and look elegant and ethereal. Marion looks just gorgeous. She’s so stunning IMO. Also, she wears dresses that I feel like I would wear. Maybe it’s just that she makes things look so accessible-like it’s easy to wear high fashion or unusual dresses.
Rosamund’s look is odd but also sophisticated. She doesn’t look budget that’s for sure. Elegant. The rest is meh. Kendrick never does anything for me, though she seems like a cool, fun person.

  22. ES says:

Marion would look great in a potato sack. The dress is nothing special but she looks good anyway, May be she was going for an understated look.

  23. ES says:

Oh, and I loved Anna Kendrick’s dress. I saw someone else yesterday in a similar dress- different but coordinating fabrics and patterns above/ below waist. It is an intrestin style.

  24. jferber says:

I love that Marion looks great at 39 and that she’s not trying to look like 29 (ahem, JLo). Marion is truly gorgeous. JLo is a medically perfected work of science (with a little Pilates and small portions thrown in).

  25. phlyfiremama says:

I guess I am the only one who loves Rosamunds dress! I think it is a knockout, by far the most interesting of these~

  26. Me says:

I love Marion but I really don’t like that dress, nor do I like any of the dresses in this post. Still think Jamie Bell’s Valentino was the best look.

  27. SamiHami says:

Marion always looks like she just smelled something offensive. It’s just something about her face that is off-putting. Nice dress though.
