Kristen Stewart wants to do a DC or Marvel film, name-checks Captain America

Here are some photos of Kristen Stewart in NYC late last week. She was doing press for Still Alice, starring Julianne Moore. Julianne is likely – fingers crossed – going to have a pretty easy ride to the Best Actress Oscar. After the early (manufactured) buzz for Kristen’s role as Julianne’s character’s youngest daughter, Kristen didn’t end up getting any kind of critical or awards notice. Which is fine. I get the feeling that Kristen is very happy for Julianne, and she’s happy to costar with this year’s presumptive Best Actress winner. Now, all that being said, trying to get a coherent sentence out of Kristen Stewart is like pulling teeth. She gave an interview to Yahoo Movies – go here to read the full piece – and she talked about how she wants to do a Marvel movie (oh, honey), how much she loves Julianne, how she’ll only do big-budget movies if she loves the story and more. Some highlights:

She’d love to do a Marvel or DC film: “I love watching those movies. I would love to show people that I can do more than just be ‘Kristen Stewart’ in a different movie, in a different circumstance.” She notes her past role as Snow White in the big-budget fantasy adventure Snow White and the Huntsman could be a jumping off point for a superhero role. “I’m sure I could get on board with Captain America, you know what I mean?… It would just have to be the right thing.”

Whether she’s shying away from big-budget roles: “Every time I read something and I’m willing to sign my name on the dotted line, promising that I’m going to fulfill this part and not just destroy it, kill it dead on a page — I really am like a crazy person, I have to feel like this thing’s real and if I don’t do it, then I destroy it. I felt that way about Twilight. I felt that way about Snow White. I never expected Twilight to even be a series, and we didn’t even know we were going to do a sequel. So I would love another big movie to come along. It’s definitely not something I’m avoiding. I was 17 when we started the whole Twilight series. I was so excited to do a teen movie. Everything I had done was like kind of heavy and I was really into it. I was just enthralled by it, and that’s what I need. I want to do big movies. You get to play with more stuff and there’s so much more at your disposal. You get to do it on a larger scale, you get to connect with more people. I am all about that. I just want to do it for the right reasons.

Her indie work has been well-received: “So excited. I’m so stoked. I’ve done a lot of indie movies from the time I was really young, and some of them don’t get released for years. It’s weird because you still love them. I don’t love everything that I’ve done in a way that is self-congratulatory. It’s literally just you do something with people and the result is something that you’re going to look around and go, “Dude, we did something worthwhile.” It really feels good when you’re not alone in that and when you have more than just the handful of people that made it to feel that way. God, we just devote our whole lives. It becomes this obsession and you feel crazy if people don’t agree. You’re like, “Wait, what? But I just got it, put everything I had into this, how can you not feel it?”

On Julianne Moore’s Oscar nomination: “I’m so proud of her. I am there, wherever she needs me, whatever, wherever she wants me to go to. It’s funny because she’s already delivered performance after performance after performance that she could have won for. … She’s a genius. I really hope that she’s acknowledged for that because it’s about time.”

She wants to direct: “I wrote two shorts that I really am championing right now. I just need to pull the trigger on [them]. I want to start really small. When I was a kid I was like, “I’m going to be the first director under 18.” I wanted everything immediately. The older I get and the more I work, I realize that I want to do it right, that I want to start at the very bottom. I definitely don’t want to jump in because of grandiose ambitions and expectations, like I want to be something. I don’t want to be something, I want to do something and I want to do it right. So, yeah, hopefully I’ll be at some weird little festival with a short soon.

[From Yahoo]

The Captain America comment is probably going to send Bedhead into a muttering rage. Something about lip-biters and Cap’s butt gif. I think it’s interesting that she’s really putting it out there, hoping that someone at DC or Marvel would consider hiring her to play… what exactly? The love interest? Armpit Girl, the superheroine with the superpower of turning Englishmen into armpit enthusiasts?

Kristen also goes on and on about what she learned technically, as an actress, from working with Julianne and with Juliette Binoche. Apparently, she likes Julianne’s more technical approach and she says Juliette “drives me f—king crazy.” I like that Kristen thinks about this kind of stuff, that she’s thinking about to improve her craft by studying the wonderful actresses she’s had the chance to work with. But I still feel like she’s just taking the roles where she can play versions of herself.

But she said she only wants to do art and isn’t interested in big Hollywood films, she doesn’t want fame.

    • Nola says:

Nah she’s mentioned that she loved blockbusters but if she were to do one it would have to be something she really likes.

      • CTgirl says:

OK then. I guess she’ll a blockbuster and donate that blockbuster salary to a charity. Since she would be in one for the “art”.

  2. RobinS says:

Please stay away from all Marvel films. She should stay in her indie corner. It suits her the best.

She looks really good in the bottom pictures. She is a beautiful girl when she doesn’t look dirty.

    • Mia V. says:

      Right in both.

    • Liz says:

She looks great in that suit. Personally I’m hoping Captain Marvel who I think she’s getting mixed up with will go to Emily Blunt. She was fantastic in Edge of Tomorrow and overshadowed Tom Cruise.

  3. Miss M says:

Breaking silence… FYI: She played Chris Evans’s sister in “Fierce People”.

  4. Tig says:

Marvel??? This totally made me crack up! Could there be a worst pairing?

  5. Milena says:

Armpit Girl, hahahha. Thank you for that.

I’m a big Marvel fan and I like Kristen well enough, but mixing the two? Terrible. Marvel’s films only work because they cast talented (for the most part) actors, so the whole comic book universe feels grounded in reality. Kristen would be a step backwards.

Speaking of Marvel though everyone should be watching Agent Carter, it’s really good!

  6. scout says:

Hope not! Can’t stand to see her emotionless “expressions” any longer, may be she just stick with artsy movie roles and get awards and be done with that, PLEASE!!!

  7. mädchen says:

The buzz wasn’t manufactured. She was in multiple lists as contender. It started right after TIFF and she was’t even there for the premiere, was filming in Japan. Sony bought rights to the movie because oft JM and her and put her to consideration for the awards because she is good in this movie and received praise for her 2 others movies this year.

    • Dani2 says:

Sony bought the film because of Julianne’s performance and decided that on the strength of that performance, they would campaign for Kristen and Alec Baldwin as well. Interestingly enough, Julianne is the only one who did any active campaigning (I think Kristen only did three events that could be considered campaigning and Alec didn’t do anything) and she’s the only one out of the movie to get critic nominations/awards as well as higher-tier awards.

  8. PunkyMomma says:

Maybe she just needs to make a guest appearance on The Big Bang Theory and get it out of her system.

  9. Dani2 says:

“I’m sure I could get on board with Captain America, you know what I mean?”

No Kristen, I don’t know. If Snow White and Twilight are anything to go by, Kristen’s acting in big budget movies is cringe-inducingly bad. She should stick to indies in which she plays herself (and before any of her three stans on here attack me, she herself has said that she’s not able to step outside herself for a role). I think she’s fine doing critically acclaimed indies.

    • serena says:

Lmao, actually I think doing some action movies would benefit her since she’s always playing the poor lipbiting girl with a lot of drama.

    • Diana B says:

She is cringe-inducingly bad in everything she does. The only movie from her I like is “Speak” and there is no more. She’s always so fidgety and wooden…

      • AnnieFannie says:

THANK YOU!! I try to tell people they should see her performance in speak!! I was truly mesmerized! Much like Lawrence in winter bones it’s clear the girl works well with roles with a lot of inner turmoil.
I expected to see big things from Stewart and haven’t really but I’m not counting her out!

    • Dutch says:

Her turn in Snow White was so good they’ve continued the franchise without her.

  10. serena says:

She looks stunning in the lower photos! Anyway yeah she’s still full of s- but I think she’s kind of learning her place. I think she wants to do Marvel/DC movies because she’d like to do action stuff or things like that, and I think she’ll be suited for that (and I mean action flicks not Marvel). Anyway it’s sweet what she says about Julianne.

    • Katenotkatie says:

That lip color and hair style really work for her in those photos. She should rock lipstick more often.

  11. mädchen says:

I like how honest she is about the movies she wants to be a part of. She mentioned multiple times how she likes both Indies and blockbusters. Sure it is not “clever” to say it in an interview, she will be ridiculed, if she doesn’t get a part. But for me it’s still way better than to want to be in a movie, audition for it and after you didn’t get it say you wasn’t even interested in it.

    • anon says:

I think her honesty is fine. If she doesn’t say she is open to it some might not consider her for the part. This way she put herself on the radar.
I’ve seen other actors do it.

  12. Adrien says:

The fake baby in American Sniper had better facial expressions.

  13. The Original Mia says:

Well that was an unpleasant thought for early in the morning.

  14. mädchen says:

I am not a superhero fan, but I would watch it if K is in it. I loved her AS Snow White. I know it’s not a popular opinion in this blog. But I loved her in it and became a fan after it. I knew who she was before, but hadn’t seen her movies. Her fans love the idea and will watch the movie.

    • ORLY says:

I doubt her fans will watch the movie. Kristen has very loud vocal fans, but when it gets right down to $$$ they don’t support her in the theaters. Other than SWaTH (not counting Twi), which I think was more Charlize/Hemsworth driven, her movies do poorly at the box office.

  15. mia girl says:

What is that you are trying to say Kristen, something about something that is something?

Sheesh, I suppose it makes sense to her in her head.

    • PunkyMomma says:

That’s right, mia girl , Kristen can play the villainess, Thesauria

    • mia girl says:

Thesauria is brilliant. You must copy write that immediately!

      Other thoughts;
      ToolBeltia
      Mercenaria (always with that hat!)
GiveAF*ck girl (since she gives more than anyone else)

  16. anon says:

I can totally see her in an action/ comics movie. A sizeable paycheck wouldn’t hurt either. This is what she is after, I am guessing.

  17. Irene says:

Can’t blame a girl for wanting to get on that Marvel train.

  18. Liz says:

For her big blockbuster films I’ve never seen the twilight films but I saw Snow White which she was terrible in, really really bad so monotone and blank. I found it surprising that she was so uninteresting because I saw the Runaways and she was the best thing in it.

I’m not surprised that she wants to do another franchise though any actor or actress that wants to be on the A list seems to need to mix the big franchise with the smaller character films, or there is no chance of getting a lead role in a studio tent pole.

  19. itzblissy says:

    no thanks

please keep doing indie movies that are not part of my watch list. do not do marvel. thank you.

  20. Ankhel says:

I want to do Captain America too! … Wait, were we talking about something serious?

  21. Nola says:

I’m not sure why this is such a big talking point (or why so many find it incredulous). I guess it’s the only sound bite to come out of her interview.

Kristen was courted for the role of Lois lane in Superman. She decide not to do it. I remember reading that Zack Synder was pissed off that she walked away from it. Even though I’m a kstew fan im glad this didn’t workout.

  22. kennedy says:

I love me some Julianne but I really wish she had won for Boogie Nights AND Far From Heaven. I saw Still Alice this weekend, and while the movie is not very good, Julianne’s performance is great. However, I didn’t walk out of the theater thinking “THIS is her Oscar win!” As a total Julianne fangirl, that was a disappointing feeling.

I remember walking out of the theater last summer after seeing Blue Jasmine and thinking “Cate Blanchett just got herself her second Oscar. NO ONE will be able to beat this performance.” And I think if Blanchett had Blue Jasmine this year, she would have won over Moore because THAT is the kind of tour-de-force/iconic performance that will be talked about for years. I just didn’t feel that way for Still Alice. I know “lesser” performances have won plenty of Oscars – JLaw in SLP, GOOP in SIL, Kate Winslet in The Reader etc. but Julianne Moore is a goddess and should go down winning an Oscar for a great film and an even greater performance. Go back to being Paul Thomas Anderson/Todd Haynes’ muse!!

    • Liz says:

In total agreement with your post. Julianne gave an amazing performance in a pretty average film while Marion Cotillard gave an equally amazing turn but in a far better film.
I still think Julianne is winning the Oscar this year but I couldn’t be too disappointed if Marion sneaks it.

    • GirlyGirl says:

Julianne Moore transcends the need for awards.

      She never disappoints, ever.

  23. Beth says:

I don’t have any issues with her, but she really wouldn’t be suitable for mainstream comic film and I can’t see her in the MCU. If alternative comics were more popular and easier to adapt to film, there are a list of characters I think she would be perfect for.

  24. Corrie says:

    No thank you.

  25. Cali says:

No, just no no no. The Twilight films weren’t popular because of her or Rob. The books were the draw.

I’ve tried and tried and tried to give Kristen chances to prove she could do more than breathe out/sigh/lip bite, shake her head in confusion and all that, but she can’t. Every single movie she is the same person over and over and over. She’s a gorgeous girl, but maybe she’ll do better as a director, who knows.

    • GirlyGirl says:

I liked her in the Runaways, but she hasn’t done anything else I’ve wanted to watch so I’m not sure if she’s any good

      • Tig says:

I liked her in Adventureland more than The Runaways, but again same performance. After SW, never again. I can’t even bring myself to re-watch SW now that it’s free!

  26. GirlyGirl says:

If Hollywood ever does a remake of “Mystery Men” kstew could play “The PMS Avenger”

  27. kri says:

She can’t be out of Twilight money already, can she?! This is the same girl who was so over it all? Hmmm. Whatevs. But her face in photos. Damn. When she is not trying to look like a hipster member of a Dickens kid gang, she is stunning.

  28. lunchcoma says:

What? No, she doesn’t. Or at least, she needs to radically change the way she promotes other things if she actually does. I can’t imagine Kristen on the road for months at a time shilling for a movie. Those expectations seem to wear on actors like Hemsworth and Evans, who both seem more amiable and easygoing than Kristen is.

This isn’t even coming from a place of hating her. I just don’t see how she’d manage to cope in that environment. If she wants to do big budget movies, she’d be better off finding ones that aren’t part of huge franchises.

  29. Janet says:

She made so much money from Twilight she will never have to work again. And honestly, I hope she doesn’t.

  30. Mi says:

LOL She was in Snow White so why she’s not in the sequel if she’s into big budget movies?Nobody had b#lls to ask her,It seems.

    • mom2two says:

I thought I read the reason why she is not the in Snow White sequel is due to her salary. I’m not a 100% sure on that though.

  31. Hillary says:

Emily is such a good choice for that huntsman movie. I could watch her in anything. People aren’t going to watch a marvel movie with kstew knowing she ruined Twilight and Snow white.

  32. Nicolette says:

She looks good and her complexion is absolutely flawless.

  33. rrabbit says:

She could play the original stepford cuckoos, all five of them.

  34. Dommy Dearest says:

Barely comment here anymore but in regards to DC and Marvel and Stewart: NO.

  35. 9 says:

She really takes herself so seriously yet is a self-loather…soooooo boring. Please no more of this brat. Bore off.

  36. Ava says:

I can pretty much watch anything…Snow White…horrible. Kristen in DC or Marvel. No just no….
