Second trailer for ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ brings nerd-tears of joy

*Perfectly Executed Chewbacca Sound*

This might be the nerdiest thing to have ever nerded. Yesterday, nerdgasms took over the world as Star Wars nerds wept in the streets… wept nerd-tears of JOY. Pure joy. The kind of joy that comes from seeing Harrison Ford without an earring. And everything about the Chewbacca REALNESS. And John Boyega being whatever it is he is. And Mark Hamill talking about The Force. All of it! Because King Nerd JJ Abrams dropped the second trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Most of all, I’m happy that they took the franchise away from George Lucas. Aren’t you? Bless George Lucas for creating these characters and for the first three (Episodes IV-VI) films, but I’m genuinely happy that JJ Abrams has taken over. As for the trailer… this really is just a glimpse, you know? JJ knows how to stoke the nerd-flame just enough, and we get the emotional pay-off of seeing Han Solo and Chewy. But we aren’t seeing half the big-name actors in this… yet. So far, we haven’t seen Lupita Nyong’o, Gwendoline Christie, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson OR Carrie Fisher. We keep getting a brief glimpse of Oscar Isaac, and it seems that he, Daisy Ridley and John Boyega are the three central characters.

JJ Abrams launched this new trailer at the Star Wars Celebration Anaheim event on Thursday – go here to read more about what was said during the panel discussion. Hint: they really didn’t let any plot details slip out beyond Boyega’s character getting the ball rolling.

      Aaaah!!!! Total tears of joy! As soon as the New Hope music was playing. Once Solo and Chewy spoke all those tears welling up in my eyes fell :,,D
      Awesome. I’m actually excited to see this in theatres. Yaaayyy!!!

        I had heart palpitations when I watched the trailer yesterday. As soon as the music started playing, I started freaking out.

    • Maria A. says:

      Okay. I’m totally tanked to see this!!!!!!! More than once!

    • Pinky says:

      The music always does it to me. And I only recognize episodes IV and V!

  2. embertine says:

    I hate myself for loving this so much. Admiteedly, the trailers for Ep1 did not give me ALL THE FEELS like this did but still.. My poor heart cannot stand it. Also, how is my crush on Harrison McGrumperson not dead after all this time?

  3. Loulou says:

    I’ve literally watched it like 6 times now.

  4. Eleonor says:

    “we’re home”.
    WELCOME BACK.
    Nerdtears of joy here too 😀

  5. Josie says:

    No superhero/Marvel movie can bring such emotions. The music as always kills me.
    Love Harrison Ford’s and Mark Hamill’s voices.

  6. Betti says:

    I watched this soo many times last night – can’t wait. JJ don’t disappoint me.

    Han Solo you old dog – you still do it for me! And sorry, Chewie clearly has had some work done as he looks younger – a new conditioner maybe 😉

    That theme gets me EVERYTIME!!!!!!!

  7. LadyMTL says:

    I squee’d when I saw Harrison Ford, no joke. I just really hope the movie doesn’t let me down.

  8. vauvert says:

    Just seeing Harrison as Han made me feel all the feelings. I looked at my son and said I have waited almost thirty years for this… And yep, my eyes were teary. Truth. When he said “Chewy, we’re home”, it felt like episodes 1-3 never happened. Hope JJ justifies all the hope we put in him.

    • nursedarry says:

      This! Xx

    • mia girl says:

      @vauvert – “I have waited almost thirty years for this…”

      I feel the exact same way! My favorite Christmas as a kid was the one my parents called “Star Wars Christmas” because every gift I received from Santa was Star Wars Episode 4 related.

      The best gift was an LP of the audio of the entire movie. I would sit in my room and listen to that over and over and over.

      This new trailer = so happy.

  9. jane16 says:

    My film student son and his fellow film student geeks were in a haze of pure joy all day and night. Apparently they kept watching it over and over when they were supposed to be filming. Oh, and my kid totally agrees with you Kaiser about how great it is that George Lucas isn’t around to wreck it. I agree with that also.

    • FLORC says:

      Lucas stopped caring. And that was sad.
      I think many fans were upset at how dumb the prequels were. I was.

      • jane16 says:

        Yes, agree completelly. I loved the original three and still do, but hated the prequels.

  10. SEB says:

    Count me as one of those who cried tears of nerdjoy. Star Wars was the first movie I ever saw. I still get chills every time I hear the music.

  11. Emma - the JP Lover says:

    Finally, J.J. Abrams is with his true love–Star Wars. And this is why the first “Star Trek” film wasn’t as ‘Trekkie’ as it could–and should–have been (an emotional Spock–Vulcans–with pink skin and red blood? Come on!). Abrams just didn’t give a sh$t about the Star Trek universe, and said as much before production started on the first ‘Trek’ film. Why in the world would someone who openly and proudly admits to being a HUGE “Star Wars” fan-boy, who never really ‘got’ the whole “Star Trek” thing, decide to direct a “Star Trek” film instead of giving the project to someone who could have done the film justice? The man has a shameless, monumental ego.

    Rant over. I’m sure this film will be a wonderful treat for those of us who sat in a theater in 1977, mesmerized by Han Solo, Princess Leia, and Luke Skywalker. May the Force be with you! 🙂

    • MonicaQ says:

      This! SO MUCH THIS! I’m a huge Trekkie and my husband is on the Star Wars camp (we love both but one more than the other) and he’s like, “Why so many explosions? Why blow up this? What is he doing?”. Meanwhile I’m stewing with nerdrage.

      Luke Skywalker in Return of the Jedi was my first movie crush so hearing him talk was a total flash back to being 10 and I just kept saying, “OH MY GOD” over and over again during this trailer. I HAVE to see this.

      (I also was expecting Darth Vader’s skull eyesockets to light up like “SURPRISE B*TCH YOU THOUGHT YOU SAW THE LAST OF ME!” but then I remembered Micheal Bay was not directing this)

      • Hautie says:

        “(I also was expecting Darth Vader’s skull eyesockets to light up like “SURPRISE B*TCH YOU THOUGHT YOU SAW THE LAST OF ME!” but then I remembered Micheal Bay was not directing this) …”
        ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
        LMAO!
        You know Bay is p*ssed that he would never get the chance to sh*t all over Star Wars with his dumb ass, explosion filled, wet dreams…
  12. shannon says:
    It’s a dream come true. i thought it couldn’t get any better than the Veronica Mars movie and then I heard this was happening. I was skeptical, but no more. trailer was amazing and yes, there were nerd tears of joy.
    • Hautie says:
      I love that there was a Veronica Mars movie too! I am surprise that they don’t have another one in mind.
      Since it has continue to make a decent profit, while being made on the cheap. And has been running non stop between HBO and Cinemax.
  13. Maum says:
    Me too!
    I haven’t even watched the trailer yet. The top photo is all I need. Han Solo was my first crush.
  14. jay says:
    I am surprised how excited I got seeing Han and Chewie flying the Falcon. I thought the prequels had killed this franchise for me. Boy, was I wrong. Goosebumps.
  15. taterho says:
    Ask my husband if there were nerd tears of joy. My hands were shaking and when Chewy and Han appeared…
    Yes!!! So happy and excited
    Nerd
    Sorry/Not Sorry
  16. BengalCat2000 says:
    OMG OMG OMG! Losing my mind with joy, OMG OMG OMG!!!!!!
  17. Lucy2 says:
    I am so excited for this. Based on the little bit of footage they have released, it looks like a true companion to the original three films.
  18. shannon says:
    okay. watched it again and still. crying.
  19. grabbyhands says:
    I think Chewie’s had a little work done around the eyes. 🙂
    I was surprised how happy and kind of choked up I got about seeing this trailer. The existence of The Phantom Menace, the unnecessary facelift to the originals and Lucas’s stubborn refusal to issue the originals to Blue Ray without his “improvements” all left a really bad taste in my mouth about this franchise, which makes me sad because I love those movies so much. But the trailer has made me optimistic that it is about to all turn around again and give the fans what they have waited so long for.
    Very excited about John Boyega! Loved him in Attack the Block and have been waiting to see him in something new-what a great career jump!
    • Grumf says:
      Awww they look so happy!”Chewie, we’re home”-tears.And I’m so excited about Boyega and Gwendoline Christie-she’s gonna be so badass!
  20. talia says:
    I’m sure Gwendoline Christie is that Super-Trooper! 😮😍😆
  21. Lara K says:
    i teared up, no doubt. disney leaned to make pixar movies. no reason they cant make star wars movies too!
  22. ncboudicca says:
    Han Solo = best loved movie character ever for me…except for maybe Rosalind Russell in “Mame”…
    • j.eyre says:
      Oh hey, shared brain twin – I just submitted an article that included Auntie Mame and how glorious she was.
      Watched this with Mr. Rochester and the Heir = goosebumps for all.
      To continue his glory, Han Solo went on to have a real life son who makes a flatbread that will make you cry foodgasm tears – he glory knows no bounds!
  23. Courtney says:
    My hubby had tears in his eyes!
    (PS Nerds make the BEST husbands/fathers, of this I’m certain. Even if they make you watch the re-release of Ep I in theaters)
  24. pretty says:
    i have never watched star wars. all these talk about it is so foreign to me. what a culture shock.
  25. QQ says:
    Only tears I’m crying are the ones behind the fact my BF and his hoarder brother are MOST CERTAINLY going to get caught up in buying every stupid tacky product placement crap and toy from this (as though every crawl space nook and cranny isn’t packed to the gill with every generation past previous cash cow toys *shudders*
    • mia girl says:
      QQ – If you look up thread to my post, I can totally see this happening to you.
      You will be having a “Star Wars Christmas” this year. But in your case, maybe not so merry.
      • QQ says:
        I Told my Bf when he started this morning with the “well chewie looks like that because..’ NO i am NOT doing this, I’m not your brother, I can’t relate to anything on that movie, it was corny-bad and just a bunch of white tears NO I will watch cause Kudos on Diversifying this mess alright already, 20 plus years later and such But I am NOT swooning about each frame I’m not interested in the backstory of blankity blank Im not reading Wookiepedia I will NOT do this with you, that’s what you have your fanboys for, I’ll fight to keep awake in every fight scene, bullshit convoluted grandiose explanation and corny cutaway change
        But instead of your xmas picture this: Every single fucking holiday/birthday/gift occasion is a star wars one for my bf since time immemorial, with the amount of items to show for it
        Like pretty above said I only last year had to sit through this mess and HATED it
  26. j.eyre says:
    Can we start speculating on story yet? Mr. Rochester is convinced they will kill Solo to right the wrong of not having killed him at the end of Jedi – thoughts?
    • LadyAlbert says:
      I’ve had the same thoughts. Apparently Harrison Ford always wanted him to get killed off?!
      I also think this Rey character will be Han & Leia’s daughter. I will be very disappointed if Luke is giving the force speech to his old child, because, just, no. Luke should remain single like the old Jedi masters. I suspect Luke is going on some kind of “what happened to my father, why did he go bad” journey, hence the burned up Vadar mask. Hubby pointed out that he says “my father has it” not HAD it, but I’m not convinced that’s significant.
      Hmm, sorry for the rant. Long-time lurker, very infrequent poster 😉
      • VirgiliaCoriolanus says:
        I wonder if they’ll follow any books? In some of the books, Han and Leia had twins, as well as a son they named Anakin.
      • Betti says:
        @VG – As far as i’m aware they won’t be following the expanded universe books, thou it would be a little odd if Han and Leia didn’t have a family. Can’t see Luke having one.
  27. Lucy says:
    I’m super excited about this and I’m not even that much of a fan.
  28. Felice says:
    Star Wars isn’t nerdy. Everybody has seen it-Parks and Recration
  29. Isabelle says:
    My 40 year old self just screamed like I did when I was 8. Excited doesn’t even describe it.
  30. Kimberly says:
    I’m so excited! I got goosebumps watching this trailer. When Star Wars came out my Dad took my brother, cousins and me to see it no less than 7 times the first month it is was out. I am from a family of nerds. The force is strong with us. LOL
  31. smcollins says:
    Star Wars nerd, and proud of it! December cannot get here fast enough! Han & Chewie at the end of the trailer…OMG! You can see the twinkle in Harrison Ford’s eyes (he, indeed, is home). My husband & me are beyond excited about this! It’s going to be awesome!
  32. Tyson says:
    Why the nerdshaming?!? We can get REALLY excited about a movie and not be nerds!!! I am TERRIBLY offended. I am calling the PC police right now!!!
    • Magpie says:
      seriously, if you’re 40+ you just grew up with these movies. I am no nerd but am super excited like everyone else here.
  33. Green Is Good says:
    The MUSIC gives me chills! Nerdvana!
