A few days ago, I wrote about how Kim Kardashian was named as one of the recipients of Variety’s Inspiration Impact Awards, which highlight various celebrity women and their work in New York, especially with charity. Kim isn’t even a New Yorker, nor is she really well-known for working hard for charities. It just seemed like Variety was giving her the award as some sort of tacky “please come to our event” thing. In any case, Variety celebrated this year’s honorees with multiple magazine covers this week. It really feels like “one of things is not like the other” when Kim is lumped in with Glenn Close, Whoopi Goldberg, Rachel Weisz and Lena Dunham. You can see Variety’s package here. Here are some highlights from Kim’s piece:
Why Kim is so charitable: She started working with Children’s Hospital Los Angeles seven years ago – she not only donates proceeds from her eBay auction store to the nonprofit, but she also carves out time to regularly visit patients and their parents, especially during the holidays.
Losing her father to cancer: “My father passed away from cancer. I remember what it was like when my dad was going through it. You see the kids that are so strong. They feel so helpless. You want to do anything to help them.”
What happens when she visits the kids: On some of these visits, Kardashian West will sit at the patient’s bedside alone. Other times, she’ll bring along her husband, Kanye West, or her sisters. She’ll arrive at the hospital armed with presents such as iTunes gift cards or beauty products. “We’ll sit and paint our nails together,” Kardashian West says. The kids, who are excited to see the E! reality star, will ask that she post their selfies on Instagram, where Kardashian West has 30.1 million followers. “They love to see their pictures on social media,” she says.
Yeah… okay. I honestly don’t have any shade for her work with Children’s Hospital LA. I just wasn’t aware that she really was spending so much time there (I’d sort of like to see the receipts on that, but whatever). It’s nice that she visits the kids and brings presents and hangs out with them. Does she deserve the cover of Variety for it? Eh.

I think it is nice that Kim spends time with the patients at the children’s hospital. Maybe Kim is actually really trying to change her image?
I know of her visiting once or twice. Let’s face it, if she visited often whole world would know about it.
If she often visited sick kids and posted the pics on Instagram,it would be known.Daily Mail posts her Instagram pics several times per day

Nah. I’m sure this “award” is bought and paid for, like everything else. She brings cameras when she goes, so it is to benefit her show and herself. And I’m sure sick kids going through chemo love inhaling fumes from nail polish.
Sorry, don’t believe one bit if this, and it’s a slap in the face to all people who give much more, and do it without expecting any fanfare or profiting from it. It’s truly vile that she was honored for showing up with cameras and leftover good-bag items.
Totally agree Josephine. My first thought was bought and paid for as well. I have yet to see any charity without strings (eg, donating only 10% of profits of E Bay sales, etc) from this bunch. I call BS.

No legitimate publication wants to be associated with this blatant famewhore (and this includes Vogue and Time, who were either convinced by publicists that Kartrashian is “relevant with the kids,” were paid handsomely or blackmailed skillfully) so it’s obvious Variety took some pretty big payola.
No one is going to forget her sex video and Paris Hilton bestie past, though – not to mention that this woman is famous for absolutely nothing other than relentless promotion by a well paid PR team. She has no talent, personality, taste or class whatsoever. What does she really do outside of take selfies and parade around for paps that she and her mother call to their locations?
And if she had “visited sick children in hospitals” there would have been thousands of photos of it plastered everywhere. Remember, this is a woman who is not above exploiting the Armenian genocide anniversary for her own shameless self-promotion. Sick kids would have been a get. Never happened – a complete fabrication so Variety could justify putting her on the cover.
That is just crazy. Just another way to put all the attention On her.

I mean, it’s great that she’s apparently been visiting children’s hospitals but I remember hearing that her family’s eBay auction for the Philippines wasn’t so charitable in the sense that only 10% of the proceeds went towards the actual cause. But whatever, it’s the most positive thing I’ve heard about her doing, visiting sick children is a better use of her time than selfie taking/pap walks.
Exactly. There have been shady dealings with her eBay site for years now.
and we know that all of the stuff on that site was given to her by the designer/manufacturer. So, she’s selling stuff that she didn’t buy (and has stretched out with her gigantic ass) and getting money for it, while only giving 10% to the charity.

Can you imagine what her face looks like in person, close up, in broad daylight with all that makeup? Yikes.
I just found out about eyelid tape! It’s marketed for Asian women but somebody elsewhere said they thought Kylie was using it. Now it looks to me like KK’s eyes are extra-open because she uses glue or tape to keep her lids way open. Check the photos again and see what you think.
Not doubting Kim would do anything for a look but considering this woman goes under the knife like people go out to get their mail I imagine she just gets anything she wants permanently done. The tight cat-eye ness of her eyes can’t be blamed on tape.
Amy, I’ve wondered the same things. I have fantasised about when she sleeps… She seems to have had so much work done, that I have visions of her having to sleep with her eyes open.

You have to hand it to her. She released a sex tape and used that to catapult herself into the public eye. Now she’s after legitimizing herself and her family, and it’s working. I think it’s horrific that this shallow, vapid family of money grubbing, tasteless, plastic dumbbells is going to be a dynasty in two more generations, but that’s who we have become, unfortunately.
I probably shouldn’t be so cynical, but it wouldn’t surprise me if her involvement is more self-serving (as in an image thing) and less about the children. I really hope I’m wrong and it’s just me being a b*tch. :/

Really? Out of all the celebrities that actually do charitable things they pick this a$$ hat? Those celebrities give MILLIONS and actual time while She gives 10 percent of some ebay auctions? Please. It also reminds me of the time there was so much backlash to her faux wedding for TV marriage and left him immediately after. She was desperate the backlash was so severe, so her and Momager took a trip to Haiti for photo-ops and she was also photographed going to Bible study (she let it be known it was Bible study), all to rehab her image. After that, you never saw her in Haiti again and you never saw her going to Bible study again. It was all just staged photo-ops during the eye of the storm to counteract her shallow marriage for TV ratings and money and then dumped him

I even think Kanye was the “mystery person” that tried to purchase the rights to Kim’s sex tape and have it erased from the internet. How dumb is that. In my broken record role: This is Kim Liar-Liar-Pants-on-Fire Kardashian. Unless reputable witnesses confirm it with real numbers, it didn’t happen. Her whole life is Instagrammed and yet no selfies in the hospital? And little kids in the hospital are big Kardashian fans? Really?
I remember a few years ago, the K Klan did a “visiting sick children” bit on their show that was obviously just for the show and not very believable. People called them out on it at the time. She may be drawing on that script and embellishing it quite a bit. When exactly does she have time for such visits? She hardly sees her own kid.
I don’t know which is worse, that an organization would give out an “award” for visiting sick kids in a hospital or that someone would show up and accept such an “award”. If you can’t do something for sick kids without doing it privately, and with no expectation of any acknowledgement or “award”, then it isn’t what charity is supposed to be. Real charity is heartfelt, personal, and private.
I would like to add that we have a disabled child that has muscular dystrophy, and has spent a lot of time in hospitals. It would piss me off to no end if some cheap celebrity went there and then used my son as part of some vulgar pr ploy. Disabled or dying kids have more important things to think about than being background extras for famewhores that want their “visits” filmed or photographed for their glory. This sickens me.

I am all for volunteering and charity, but why did she chose a children’s hospital when she could have focused on something else. I really doubt many of those kids knew who the hell she was. It is not like she was a character from Marvel/DC comics, a movie star, or a well known athlete. How is she explained when she arrives, what do they tell the kids.
I don’t think you need to be a SUPER HERO to visit choldren’s hospital. Depending on each child’s situation I’m sure their happy to have a celebrity there. I think it’s nice she’s doing this. I’m sure I’ll get backlash but could she be going there under the radar? Could she be changing her image? Maybe she’s finally slowly growing up.

OH PLEASE!!! She hasn’t set foot in a hospital; other than her plastic surgeon’s office, since she had her baby. And that doesn’t count.
