The 2015 Met Gala was held last night. The theme – as we discussed yesterday – was “China: Through the Looking Glass.” Thankfully, a lot of celebrities just sort of ignored the theme, which meant far fewer racist disasters than I was expecting. Last night was also a big night for one couple… FKA Twigs and Robert Pattinson. They are engaged, but probably not expecting (she doesn’t look bumpy to me in these photos). They made their HUGE red carpet debut on the Met Gala carpet and they looked… stunning.
Twigs wore Christopher Kane, after being confirmed for Alexander McQueen earlier in the day. My theory is that Twigs possibly tried on a McQueen archive piece and it either did not fit or she was uncomfortable wearing something so delicate or special from the archives. So she wore this Christopher Kane dress, which is pretty enough. It doesn’t really look Chinese or Chinese-influenced, nor is it really a “pretty dress.” But Twigs’ whole vibe is sort of anime/art-pop/cool girl, so it works. Sparkles wore Dior Homme – he has a big Dior contract, so that was a no-brainer.
Incidentally, Sparkles and Twigs were able to make their red carpet debut in peace because Kristen Stewart decided to forgo the Met Gala to fulfill her contract with Chanel… in Seoul, South Korea.

She’s the tiniest girl, isn’t she? I love that cool, peculiar vibe she’s got going on, though. And that dress is amazing. Kudos for RPatz to wear something clean and sophisticated alongside, too. That makes his lady stand out even more.
Love the dress, yes. It’s fab. Love a lot about this girl, but she needs to smile more. She’s got a wonderful smile, but often gets a sort of stunned-stupid look when she’s doing a RC with RP.
Her expression brings to mind “slack jawed yokel” phrase from the Simpsons. If she is a big deal, I don’t get it. She does look marginally better when she smiles. The dress is meh.

Its more important to go with the trend of hanging the mouth open. I really dislike rings in the face, but especially the nose. I have a bit of a sinus thing and I couldn’t imagine the irritation of pulling at a foreign body every time I had to blow my nose.

The eyebrow miss bothers me more than the open mouth thing. It looks like eyebrow trauma. The dress is artistic but too casual looking for a formal affair. Although RiRi’s look is hated I think SHE got the formality right.
Sparkles looks over dressed next to her. They look like two strangers who had no idea what the other was going to wear. He should have gone as casual/arty as her or both go formal. I don’t think they look odd. I actually think they are quite cute together.
But what I am finding odd is seeing Pattinson on a red carpet with his significant other/as part of a couple. It’s such a change! I thinking all that coy stuff in the past maybe had less to do with him.
Superficially, they may look odd together. Neither of them is classically attractive. Yet, I was stunned by just how happy he looks with her. My god, when he looks at her it’s like no one else exists. That makes them a beautiful couple to me.
Well he always looked crazy about Kstew too. She was the one people called out for looking emotionless and open-mouthed – so it makes me smile to see the same things written about this girl LOL. I agree. Neither one of them looked very comfortable on that red carpet. I don’t see either one as fashion people. I did not like her dress, she is very pretty, but I am not a fan of that dress. He, at least, looked cleaned up. And I am glad you got pictures of them smiling because the only ones I saw of the two of them, they both looked totally bored (not with each other, they both looked like they wanted to be somewhere else). I do think they are happy together and I wish them the best as a couple.

It just seems so wrong for the Met Ball that’s meant to have a theme that relates to Chinese design…then again most people were so far off the mark when it came to the theme. Saw this on twitter – it answers your question about what Christopher Kane was thinking when he designed the dress:

It’s weird, it’s artsy, it’s provocative, it’s totally her. I think it is more tasteful than the Beyonce and Kardashian choices though. I would choose Matisse over sequined ass, LOL.

Twigs doesn’t know how to make the most of her looks, IMO. She has gorgeous skin and lovely eyes but all that eyebrow pencil distracts from her eyes. And that topknot hairstyle just looks silly. She needs to get that horrible ring out of her nose, tone down the eyebrows and play up her eyes, and change up the hairstyle. I think she’d look great with a pixie cut. Something like Jada Pinkett Smith is wearing in “Gotham” with the spiky bangs.

The missed opportunity- vintage McQueen? She would have looked so amazing. She really has great legs ( yes, I know- trained dancer,etc) and I liked the shoes. The dress -I liked the concept, not the execution/ugh to the feet and genitalia. Rob should always wear a tux-hope this look is in the new Dior ads. They really seem into each other.
Re the engagement- if it’s accurate, find it odd that they haven’t announced it. I believe they could be engaged to be engaged, or that they may elope at some point. Hope they are on many more red carpets- tho next time, better dress for her!

Christopher Kane walked the carpet with her, that doesn’t sound like a last minute decision. I think she never intended to wear McQueen and that was just an incorrect assumption widely circulated.

It’s probably a combination of the dong dress and the nose ring….it’s rather polarizing (I love the nose ring, very much dislike the dong dress)…and twi-hards. I love Twigs, as I wrote above, but I’m not here for the dong dress. However, that’s on Christopher Kane and not her. What annoys me are the hyper-defensive Sparkle Stans (not talking about you, Kitten) who are like “you don’t get art” because some people don’t care for the Matisse-esque dong dress or “if you aren’t into it it’s because you are a Kstew fan” (actually, I love Twigs, like KStew for the most part, and am ambivalent to Sparkles….I’m all about the ladies in this case and find him bland ;).
Taste is subjective…some can love the dress but I dislike it. Anyway, I work at an art gallery and went to art school which is why I’m a little bristly at the “you don’t understand ze art” sniff sniff comments from some on here. I would have loved to have seen her in a vintage McQueen number. The McQueen people missed the boat by not dressing her and I hope they dress her for her next red carpet.
Yeah people can say whatever they want about her dress just like I always talk sh*t about Kim’s outfits. But I take issue with the OTT criticisms of her mouth, comparing her to rodents and bunnies, yokels, etc or just outright calling her ugly. It just seems exceptionally mean-spirited to me.
I went to art school also and I think that’s why I’m rather fond of this young woman. She seems like she’s doing her thing and enjoying it.

Div – I was one of the people who commented on the art, and I’m far from a “Sparkle Stan”. I’m here for Twigs, whom I just really enjoy.
My comments about art was in regards to people calling the dress nasty, tasteless, tacky etc. I don’t care if they don’t like it, but, for the ocassion, at that location, on this particular person, I thought the dress was very appropriate. My two cents. Carry on.

I agree that the comments about her mouth and teeth are very mean. The dress, not so much. She also reminds me of people I went to school with which is one of the reasons I love her…I also love her creativity and confidence.

For me, it’s that I’ve never been a fan of Kane. He and Stella are not my thing compared to other designers. Agree to disagree on the dress ;). I do love that she’s never boring with her fashion, even if I don’t care for the outfit. I would have liked it more a few years ago when the theme was punk. Galliano is a douche but so talented and I would have loved to seen his designs on FKA Twigs.

I wanted Twigs to be a lot more “outrageous” with her dress, but I like this one none-the-less. I can’t wait to see more of her unique fashion going forward. 😊
I haven’t read all the posts, but I didn’t really pick up any visciousness. People complain about her open mouth pose ( they do the same with JLO) and some find her pretentious ( myself included).

I don’t want to get too heavy – but I suspect this topic is actually rooted in deep-seated social & cultural aesthetic prejudices regarding appearance, stereotype, historical signifiers and media characterization – and especially female vs. objectified/desired female. (Do a Google or Bing search on what many deem the offensive term “hottentot,” and you will uncover the tip of the iceberg on what I think is partly going on here – in a modern version – of a very well-precedented and documented phenomenon.)
Well, the Met is definitely a place for an art dress, unfortunately this art dress looks cheap and tacked together by a Fashion student who thinks it’s edgy to put dicks on dresses.
No, it’s obviously well made. Have you ever designed a dress or costume before? Because I have, and this is quite a brilliant execution of the design.

I’ve never seen her perform so perhaps that would humanize her for me, but frankly I cannot see the appeal of either of these two. They just aren’t attractive.
That said, I don’t mind them together, why not? Just…blah.
Love her dress. Thanks to the person who revealed the concept and inspiration for it. It looked familiar but I couldn’t place it. She wears it perfectly, and I don’t think its the easiest look to rock. It doesn’t look at all cheap to me; the design and execution could easily go wrong. It looks simultaneously daring and feminine… Asymmetrical but balanced. Reminds me of a lot of the best 30s fashions in that way… Details that could be a complete mess if the designer and tailor weren’t so good. Her face and hair don’t do much for me, but with that kind of confidence, who cares? Also sparkles looks very happy and sweet.
Facial hair doesn’t work at all for Robert Pattinson. It grows in strange patches. That is my only gripe about the whole thing.
Snark alert. Sparkles looks happy and healthy and frankly in love with his girl, so that’s cool… But I kind of just can’t w her and it makes me feel bad cuz I want to. I don’t like the dress at ALL, I’ve only heard one of her songs so I’ve still got to figure out what I think about her talent, she always seems sort of aloof to me, and nose-rings, in the middle like that, just drive me nuts and do her looks no favor.
Dislike the dress, but it’s her facial expression that is even more unappealing. I wouldn’t know how to call it, but she looks ‘not very bright’ to me. The good thing: they seem to be happy.
She’s actually very intelligent, I’ve seen her in an interview where she speaks fluidly about her work. I think the open mouth thing is just due to the shape of her lips/ mouth. Plus she must be nervous as hell for this event – have you ever tried to breath through your nose when you’ve got stage fright? It ain’t easy! 🙂

Rob looks fab, and the dress doesn’t do much for me personally, but it does fit the event, and as far as I’m concerned, it’s way better than the Vegas showgirl on crack look.

Well, no one saw this coming but hey, they’re happy. She doesn’t smile a lot but he does. Apparently he likes her look a lot. I like her dress. She reminds me of Lisa Bonet in the 80s. I’ve never heard her music. Engaged? I hope they’re not jumping into marriage too soon.
I like FKA Twiggs. The dress looks okay like she’s channeling VAN GOGH or something. However, her bun appears to be too tight. People gonna hate because she’s a black chic with a white heartthrob. The hate is so noticeable. It’s like get over yourself. No one cares about the pettiness.
Love the look, Rob looks great. They look great together. I think her dress is fine enough if you know what I mean. She’s here first time… so she didn’t overpower him or the event. Was it the best we’ve seen her no. Does she still look great, sure. Love the hair, love her paired with CK or ignoring Matisse peen jokes bc we’re adults. I hate book burners. Grow up. The shoes i like but not with this dress. They look damn hot together though.
