Amal Clooney in pink & black at the ‘Tomorrowland’ premiere: cute or basic?

wenn22465053

The big Tomorrowland premiere happened in LA on Saturday. George Clooney had two dates: his wife Amal and Amal’s tween niece Mia. Mia is the daughter of Amal’s sister Tala (People Magazine is trying to make Tala happen, remember?). Mia is all of 13-years-old and she got to pose with George Clooney at the premiere of his big Disney movie. Yes, they’re selling this movie to kids.

As for Amal… her shoes are Giambattista Valli, one of her favorite designers, and they are pretty cool. I thought the dress might be Valli as well, but some think it’s Alexander McQueen. I’ll update if I get an ID! I don’t mind the dress at all – it’s well-designed, it’s pretty and flattering. I like the combination of pink and black and it seems appropriately “fun” for a Disney movie premiere.

Meanwhile, you know how one of Amal’s many high-profile cases is “The Hooded Men” case? The Hooded Men were Northern Irish men who were allegedly tortured by British police/military during the Troubles. The men were held without charges or trial and the case is all about who ordered the alleged torture. Amal is part of the legal team defending the Hooded Men and she’s going to accuse the late Sir Edward Heath (former Prime Minister) of ordering it. You can read more about the case here. Amal is going to be heading back to Strasburg, basically, and sources say George will be joining her “to ensure the case gets maximum publicity.”

Oh, and George kissed Amal’s hand at the premiere. It seems a bit over the top.

The hand kissing is too much, but otherwise they’re cute. I approve.

    • GlimmerBunny says:

Agreed. I like them together a lot.

      • evermore says:

I think he looks old and worn and she looks terrible in her tween dress.
The woman is way too thin. I don’t get where she’s attractive in any way.

    • CM says:

THANK YOU for getting in there first with something positive! The comments sections are often my fav part of CB but I scrolled down on this one with something like dread – posts on Amal are usually full of such depressing, undeserved vitriol.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

So crazy. I don’t get it, either.

        The niece looks adorable, too.

      • Snazzy says:

Agreed. They look great together and she seems like a very cool lady.
I just don’t get the hate

    • MrsB says:

Agree with all. I like her and I think they’re sweet together.

    • Judyk says:

Also agree with ALL of these comments.

    • mia girl says:

I’m not always crazy about her sartorial choices, but I do like this one and overall, I like them as a couple.

Yeah, and I’ll say it… I do like him in most movies. He won me over in One Fine Day and is so good in one of my favorite (and I believe underrated) Cohen Bros movies, Intolerable Cruelty.

PS Amal’s niece is super cute.

      • Kori says:

Me too. I don’t like the dress though. I think she and her niece should’ve switched. 🙂 Sometging about the skirt (the ruffled look) just seems teenage. But she would’ve rocked the sheath dress–and the color of her shoes would’ve matched it better as well.

      • AntiSocialButterfly says:

That ( Intolerable Cruelty) is a scream… loved it. It is one I can periodically rewatch ( usually don’t like to do that) and thoroughly enjoy it. Dislike this dress intensely, btw.

    • Alex says:

It’s a cute look I approve. Mia looks adorable as well.
My friend takes class from her in law school and she can’t say enough nice things about the class. So I’m cool with Amal. Smart as a whip is always good in my book.

    • Dubois says:

Agree, agree, agree. She looks lovely. Her niece looks like Ali Lohan when Ali Lohan looked like Ali Lohan.

  2. Ahot says:

Good, they are showing the niece what to expect in a good partner: deference. Amal is looking fabulous!
Looks like George´s dong was allowed to roam freely here. Who knew he was packing? :O

  3. Jules says:

    Her choices seem childish.

    • Misti64 says:

Yes. Her colors are always garish and seem to be screaming……. her dress sense just seems a mess to me. I always feel I should look away

    • lisa says:

it’s a dress from charlotte russe for the 8th grade dance

  4. mimi says:

hahahha amal looks like the movie star and george… doesn’t

    • Shambles says:

He just looks like he’s in serious pain and needs to be in bed with Netflix and a bowl of soup. Maybe it’s time to take a step back, Georgie. I hope he’s ok.

  5. Louise177 says:

They are way overexposed. I’m also embarrassed about how much George and Amal seem to love the attention.

    • hunter says:

Amal most of all, she basks in it. Look at the photos with this post – she is gleaming from each of them.

  6. Dhavynia says:

I like her dress and how her niece is dressed too. Amal doesn’t look so thin with this dress. No body shaming, just latety she’s been looking way thinner and not in a good way

    • hunter says:

If anything the dress looks boxy, which is the perfect thing to hide thinness.

And I disagree, I think she looks terribly thin – look at the picture where George has his hand on her back and think about how thin she has to be for that picture.

  7. I remember the paps at a premier were yelling at George to kiss Stacy Keibler on the red carpet and he kissed her hand. Same routine different girl.

  8. Syko says:

I just glanced at this article and it came to me that I don’t really like Amal. She seems like she’s in it for something other than love, honor and cherish, etc.

    • Guesto says:

I think you could say exactly the same thing about Clooney. He’s the one who’s put Tiny Tom’s PR push to shame, he’s the one constantly telling everyone how amazingly amazing she is in every respect, he’s the one telling the world – and inviting them to rejoice with him! – that he’s finally found his equal! That is a huge ego at work, and, since Amal is an intelligent woman, it’s reasonable to assume that Amal is a fully paid up and equally ego-driven member of Team Clooney Hype.

Applying the wise words of the sadly departed Quentin Crisp, Clooney is the perfect example of someone living well and truly beyond his income of applause.

The most positive thing I can say about this marriage is that it’s ‘entertaining’ albeit unsettling to observe. Personally, I think they’re a perfect match and will go the distance. 😉

      • mary simon says:

I think they will go the distance, too. This looks like some kind of arranged marriage – if Clooney wants to go in to politics, the bimbos he has always had a predilection for would not serve him well in this area -“First Bimbo” just doesn’t cut it. Amal will make a fine political wife. Amal gets to have her movie star husband, and the extra status that comes with that, although she got him after he hit the wall – he’s older now and aging quickly. Each of them can help advance the other’s career and extend the wealth and fame gain well into the future.

      • hunter says:

Definitely an arranged marriage for whatever reason. If they are both getting what they want out of it, maybe that’s just right.

  9. Sarah says:

I hate it when older or thin women have strained veiny feet from their heels….. ick!

    • Judyk says:

      Nice.

    • wolfpup says:

I enjoy the blood supply, but veins bother me too, oh well, what can you do? The older body just needs too much doctoring to stay fresh looking.

    • Sos101 says:

Maybe they’re natural? Mine sure are. I am not thin, old, nor do I wear heels but I’ve got my pop’s feet.

  10. Samtha says:

I think that’s the best look she’s worn. It’s cute and appropriate, and the shoes are great.

  11. INeedANap says:

Yeah, I would totally wear the white and yellow dress the niece is wearing, and my age is a multiple of hers. Gimme.

  12. Barrett says:

She looks cute and he looks like an old man next her. What a double standard!

    • MrsBPitt says:

I actually don’t think they look like there is a huge age difference…they look lovely together! He must be happy he finally got a woman he doesn’t have to do the whole “pygmalion” routine with…

      • Jules says:

Oh give me a break. Like there aren’t millions of women that weren’t cocktail waitresses that Clooney could have dated. She isn’t the only pretty accomplished woman out there. And the last time I checked a 17 year age difference is a bit much.

      • Kara says:

e must be happy he finally got a woman he doesn’t have to do the whole “pygmalion” routine with…

poor George was forced to date those women and then sent them through the routine…he could have dated other women or been happy with how they were.

      • Heathering says:

He’s done more Henry Higgins for Amal than any before: cosmetic surgery; complete style and looks makeover; an entire revisioning of her past personal and work (with much padding) history; 12 months of constant promotion and PR placed puffery; securing her high profile ‘work’ with the Clooney name for which her real career stage doesn’t warrant and she is yet to be qualified; and now the promotion of her family members has begun too. That’s more remaking than any other of his past arrangements got (or required). If she was supposedly all so everything wonderful at the outset, why the need for all that?

AND, that there is even an implicit ‘compare & contrast’ message between the women he has chosen to spend time with and his ‘chosen’ one now IS flawed (and troubling) defence for Amal reading as ‘and least she’s a credible woman… meh, other women not so much’. Problematic in the extreme. Especially as he seemed more honestly engaged with others of the past at a human relationship level.

      • Michelle says:

@Jules – I totally agree with you. I think Clooney is one of the smarmiest, most overrated sleaze bags out there. He purposely dated a plethora of women that he thought were beneath him, and the minute they acted out of line or were too vocal, he dropped them like a bad habit. George has notoriously been super vocal in his interviews and has always clearly found himself to be incredibly important and smart. THIS is the reason why he settled down with Amal. George found a woman he was attracted to who is probably extremely intelligent (hate or love her, I’m sure she is no dummy) and accomplished and suddenly Mr. Bachelor for life is gushing all over the place about how he has finally found his soulmate and the love of his life. It is definitely not “poor George, he dated all those hot dumb girls before” it’s more like “wow what a self-important douche bag.”

I think Clooney hams it up for cameras because he loves the attention, and also because he believes in his own mind, that Amal is his intellectual equal when she is actually his intellectual superior. Also – I think she looks incredibly uncomfortable on the red carpet, and even more so when he starts hamming it up.

  13. Peggy says:

George is counting on TomorrowLand to be big at the Box Office. His last hit was?
Wonder why George did not invite his sister’s two kids, instead of rent a kid.
How many times will he have to tell people that Amal is smart, before they realize she is a junior Barrister, practicing Law for four years.
Tina Fey really did a number on him.

    • Suzanne says:

Isn’t THAT the truth? Enough already…we GET IT.. You landed what you want the world to think is an educated beauty. Worship her but don’t expect the world to join you. The hand kissing is sweet…but enough already. We get it…you’ve finally met your match!

      • Michelle says:

Everyone should collectively roll their eyes when Clooney opens his mouth. I don’t know why George Clooney has always thought he is some sort of genius. He purposely dated women who were inferior to him, and now that he found an accomplished, educated woman, he wants everyone to praise him somehow for finding his “equal.” How are they equals though? Amal is accomplished and educated and George Clooney pretends to be other people for a living. I might be in the minority but to me, it seems like Clooney likes that being with Amal makes him look smart somehow. I think this guy has an enormous ego.

    • Susan says:

And he is already prepping the world for Amal to step down from her position. In a page six article he states it’s hard for her to continue to practice law but she still is. So watch for it to become too difficult at her level of fame, she will step down, take some token assignments and whatever it is George married her for will be put into gear (politics?).

      • siri says:

I wouldn’t be surprised at all, because I think Amal is nothing more than any other of his previous girlfriends- a nice, contracted accessory. Only he couldn’t get her without the ring. To George, his image is most important, but in the meantime, this whole show seems to have taken a toll: he looks tired, tense, and unhealthy. In another forum, somebody postet this link of an interview at the Critic’s Choice Awards 2006. It made me rethink his motives for this marriage. Look at the way he looks at the (male) interviewer (till about 1:12):
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0tSpvkSrN2k

      • evermore says:

        siri , interesting video.
Have you heard about Penicoli*sp? the interviewer. There was a story in the east coast papers, years ago. People in the industry would know which way that interviewer swings.

All I get when I see Clooney these days is closet and beard.

      • siri says:

@evermore: I’m not the expert;-), but as far as I understand, Penacoli is gay.

    • boredblond says:

To be fair, I think his niece and nephew are pretty much grown..they were never used for pr..I think his sis didn’t go in for the fame ho stuff. This is the first time I can remember his parents were no-shows. The hand kiss? Did that to the waitress too..in fact, I can’t recall him EVER having a hot kissing scene in a film, unlike most leading men. Too much oversell..this is just one long overdressed infomercial to sell the conspicuous coupling. I wonder what her colleagues think of her role as pap magnet..or have they been promised roles in the reality show? Everybody wants to be Kim, I guess.

    • jen2 says:

I think it is interesting in all of the Sony e-mails that Clooney whining to Pascal about Monuments Men got totally glossed over. He just sounded so ridiculous and she stroked him like a puppy and tried to prop him up. Ultimately, none of it helped the film become a success. Everyone has the job of selling their film, it is their job and we will see the Clooney circus come to town multiple times. This is just the beginning volley. But he looks so tired in those photos. I do hope he is well and he paces himself. I also saw that Gerber was a walking billboard for the tequila, which I find so very tacky.

    • evermore says:

      Well said Peggy.
His fragile ego was wounded by Fey, he’s been working overtime to convince ever since.
Can’t stand him anymore, I am finally seeing through all of his PR. He’s such a insecure phony.
I don’t get the hype over him or his rent a wife and her Kardashian family.

  14. bella says:

all of this looks so staged and fake.
    i just can’t with these too…just can’t…

on another note…amal looks good in this outfit and i love the shoes.
    those earrings…gawd, no.

  15. jules says:

Are you sure the niece is only 13?

  16. Regina Phalange says:

Me no like the look. The dress is okay I guess but with the earrings and the shoes? No bueno.

  17. Shelly says:

Her client, Qaddafy’s boy, was in court as she strutted in this outfit that should have been on her niece. Let’s not ever discus the politics here…which is the point…

  18. jamrock says:

Im sorry I just can’t buy their relationship they seem more like friends than partners
they lack chemistry.. and George is overly trying so hard

On a good note I actually like amal style

    • rudy says:

The reason you can’t buy the relationship is because there is no relationship.

The whole marriage is staged. From the beginning. Who knows why.
Unless Amal really has no brains, she knows the story with Georgie.
He prefers men. More power to him. Why this whole BS straight lifestyle is needed I’ll never understand. Just makes him look like a fool and pulls more people into his lies.

If these two have ever slept together I’ll eat my hat.

      • bella says:

        @rudy
this isn’t the 1st time i’ve read that george is gay, but i have no idea where that is coming from.
is that just a rumor or your personal opinion?
anything is possible, but i don’t see it with him.
i see that he needed major image rehab after trapesing around with young mindless ladies and being called out by amy poehler and tina fey on whatever award show that was.
he has political aspirations, so he got himself a wifey…and a respected human rights one to boot.
        not sure it’s a gay beard…

      • siri says:

I thought it to be just a rumor for a long time, until I watched this video somebody posted:
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0tSpvkSrN2k
A little patience till about 1:12, but it made me rethink his motives for this marriage. Same here, I don’t care about his preferences. I just wonder why pretending would still be needed.

      • rudy says:

        @bella.
here is something I just read today:
“This handsome actor has not been at all camera shy with the paparazzi while filming in an American city.
Know who you won’t catch in those photographs with him? The male models who come to visit him in his hotel room late at night.
Where is his wife while all this is going on? Well, she’s not with him. She has her own room.”
        http://blindgossip.com/?p=71225
this is from Blind Gossip. Believe Ace or not, up to you.
George has been gay for years whether or not I have proof.

      • Melly M says:

Hmm, isn’t he looking at Julia in a similar way at 0:38? I think it’s easy to read something into facial expressions, but we still don’t know what a person is really thinking.

      • siri says:

@Melly M: Matter of perception, I guess, but that long and repeated gaze at Jerry Penacoli, and then trying to ‘compose’ himself…it made me wonder for the first time.

  19. Heathering says:

“to ensure that the case gets maximum publicity”. So, as many have said for a while, her ‘legal’ services are sought largely because of the media exposure that she exploits by virtue of her married name. Not exactly the progressive role model some would present her as.

As to trivialising such an issue as in need of Hollywood promoted headlines, given the sensitivities, casualties, and tragedies on all sides of Ireland (N & S) & within mainland UK, frankly I have now zero respect for her approach to advocacy and her supposed commitment to the protection of human rights. The last thing needed, in The Peace, is an exacerbation of underlying tensions in order that the Clooneys circus can further their personal PR agenda.

  20. Heathering says:

And on another human rights note: I note today that another client with her as a lawyer of record has had his appeal denied by the Swedish Supreme Court. The Court has upheld the warrant seeking Assange’s questioning on charges made against him on multiple allegations of sexual assault.

I believe it to be the right of the women alleging such assaults to be reassured he may yet face being called to answer to their claims under due process. I would hope Amal Clooney would believe that to be their right, likewise. Yet she speaks little of those charges, only asserts protection of her client from a presumptive position that he MIGHT then be sought by the US on unrelated grounds at a later date.

Seems the application of rights is extremely arbitrary with AC, depending, largely, upon the $s billable and the headlines and personal exposure to be gained.

    • siri says:

Yes to both your comments. Human rights when it suits her own agenda, and when the paycheck is right.

  21. Marianne says:

I like the different filds of the skirt, But having a giant X on your chest is weird.

  22. Sandy says:

Amal has never met a bow, ruffle or flounce she didn’t like. She dresses like an 8 year old!

  23. khaveman says:

Amal always looks very proud of herself – almost snooty – when she’s posing. I wish she’d just relax and not try to be posing so hard.

  24. sofia says:

“Yes, they’re selling this movie to kids.” Sell, sell, sell, sell. I think this is the motto of their union, right?

  25. TOPgirl says:

George looks like he came back from the North Pole. Amal looks gorgeous and super intelligent. How did he land her again??

    • Peggy says:

Like how he got all the other.
I’ll get you fancy designers dresses and name recognition, only with this one, he did not have to get People Magazine to say she is a model instead call girl/waitress.
I think George bit off more than he can chew with this family, Amal’s uncle is am arms dealer, under a travel ban in France, the MIL will sell anything to get attention.
Kris Kardasian is a Rookie compared to Amal’s mother.

    • evermore says:

      lol Yup. Clooneydashian’s.

  26. Grace says:

    Very Judy Jetson.

  27. Amberica says:

This woman is worked ng to bring to justice peopl le who ordered torture. Let’s definit comment of her clothes. They look like the clothes of a bad ass.

    • Green says:

But she spends more time on her wardrobe than on her human rights career, and so obviously she’s hungry for us to comment. I say go for it.

  28. Cara says:

I see too much of these two. They are starting to feel like Kardashians to me.

  29. Jonesy says:

George is starting to look like an Easter Island Head.

  30. cindyp says:

That dress is awful; too young for her. Her hair is a rats nest; get rid of the extensions. Poor George..she is a fraud; anyone who is a serious lawyer & human rights advocate would not be prancing around as she is. I always loved George but now really believe she’s his beard..

  31. wow says:

    Trying WAY TOO HARD, George.

  32. Anare says:

Dress is fug. Don’t like the color combo. The black in the front is off-putting. It’s not sophisticated looking. Too twee.
