Amal Clooney in a green Sonia Rykiel jumpsuit in London: tragic or cute?

FFN_Alamuddin_Amal_FFUK_062515_51781808

Ha, many of you predicted this as soon as the stories came out about George Clooney’s “boys-only” roadtrip. Of course Amal Clooney would have to step out today. To be fair to Amal, I think these photos are just her leaving her London home, which means the paparazzi were probably camped out, waiting for the latest fashion show. This doesn’t have the feel of an organized pap stroll, it’s more likely just Amal being polite for the cameras. Is she happy to see them? Of course.

Amal’s jumpsuit is by Sonia Rykiel, a designer that Amal has never worn before, to my memory. The price tag is well over $1000. Seriously. I don’t think this jumpsuit is all that great. It’s not the best color on her and the vibe is supposed to be “conservative, high-class overalls” but it just looks messy and dated. I will say this though – it’s better than most of her casualwear. That’s not saying much though, because her street style is absolutely tragic.

The Express UK posted these photos and asked if Amal was looking “too thin.” I’ve made an effort to not get too judgy or body-shamey about Amal’s weight loss, but yes, even the casual observer can see that she’s lost a significant amount of weight in the past year. Maybe it’s the pressure of being married to George Clooney, maybe it’s the pressure of being a brilliant, amazing lawyer and fashion-plate unicorn, I don’t really know. But she is very, very thin.

Amal also met David Cameron yesterday. You can read about it here.

PS… I bet Duchess Kate is jealous of the buttons.

i bet she had the exact same play suit when she was a toddler

    • BangersandMash says:

      Shots fired!

But seriously though, that suit is 3 sizes too big, it looks like a something that would be displayed in the corner store downtown on a weird looking cheap mannequin from the 80’s.

And yeah, girlfriend, eat. You are not naturally thin, honey.

      • beautifulDay says:

I would rock the toddlerFrock, because I’m chubby like a cupid. This gristly mama? No. Just no.

    • kcarp says:

I have a scarecrow that I put in the yard in the fall that looks almost just like this. No kidding

    • Megan says:

And she has her suitcase. Is she wearing that on a plane? How will she use the restroom?

    • Size Does Matter says:

I’m pretty sure my two-year-old son has that romper. But his has a big dinosaur on the butt. Are there any photos from the back?

    • QueensGlo says:

I just don’t find her or her style attractive at all. This is one of the most overhyped women ever. She is definately not a beauty. IMO.

  2. Ratchetosity says:

What! I think that outfit is BOMB! I love the handbag.

    • wolfpup says:

Me too! Maybe Amal is all that. I don’t judge her – I bet she’s given a lot of freebies.

    • Snazzy says:

I came here to say that too. LOVE the handbag

    • Gea says:

I have google her picts pre George, she looked much better and her style was more her. With all freebies that she gets, it looks like that she puts stuff on her just becouse.

    • Dubois says:

I like her street style. It’s very unique and a tad kooky. This outfit however is the worst. The buttons are so Princess Di circa the 90’s. Probably the worst thing I’ve seen on her. The stitching under the breast area is so amateur. The straps are also really badly sewn on. I can’t believe this is a designer outfit.

      • belle de jour says:

First-year sewing class year-end project. At least two decades ago.
Boo. Boo brass nautical romper buttons, too. Horribly cut & ill-fitting, the whole way ’round. Boo.

    • QueensGlo says:

      So unflattering,
She picks so many things that just are so unflattering on her.

    • loud noises says:

agreed. if i was that tall (and thin?!) i’d wear it ALL THE TIME.

  3. Ratchetosity says:

What! I think that outfit is BOMB! I love the handbag.

I do not however like her. At all.

  4. Elfie says:

It looks awful on her and the shoes are hideous.

    • Chrissy says:

Speaking of shoes, did you notice her bunions? Between her odd toe situation and her bunions, her feet must hurt. The outfit it miles too big, the wrong colour for her and why oh why would she show off her stringbean arms? Fail!

    • Eugenie says:

      She has got finger toes.

  5. A says:

It always looks like she’s wearing a costume.

  6. Maya says:

For the first time I can say I love her outfit ! It’s simple, nice and modern. And those earings !! Love them !! But with all that money and famewhoring she could do an operation to eliminate that oignon on her feet. Her feets look creepy ….

    • Kosmos says:

I totally agree…..I think her dress is always classy, chic and simple. I find the jumpsuit very fashion-forward looking along with her tan wedges etc. There are many styles of dressing and some women prefer different things, but I believe she would be considered perfectly dressed for a high fashion magazine, judging from everything I’ve seen her wear. Most everyday people we meet do not dress that way, however, so we might think it looks ‘different’ or too big or baggy or strange, but in reality, I think it’s very sophisticated.

  7. Kiddo says:

The jumpsuit is kind of cute/classy, but it’s WAY too big for her. It looks like the crotch is falling very low. I think she has usurped Jen Affleck from the queen of ugly shoes position. Blech.
I’m thinking a shoe in red might have worked better and also a shoe that would CONTAIN her toes.

    • Liberty says:

Well, it is one of the big colors for fall, and an approved Pantone new 2015 color, and, buttons are on target, and brown….and the 90s vibe. All on target. And yet, somehow….It is too Target. I think her hair is wrong? messy tail or pinned up, maybe versus this weird news anchor semi-blow out from the 1980s. Or should this be on an Urban Outfitters customer vs her? Too cocktail socialite from the neck up, throws the look off. IMO.

    • enuff said says:

Love it…love it on her!! The hem should be longer or straight at ankles if short and with strappy sandels or a least more feminine pair. The accessories…perfect colour!!

  8. Lilacflowers says:

That jumpsuit is just so weird. The crotch seems really low and the pant legs seem to end in an odd spot above her ankles.

    • Lola says:

I think it looks weird because she does not have the body to fill it, it needed to be tighter.

  9. Arock says:

I really wish she’d get a stylist who understands her frame. She’s a beautiful, intelligent woman. Just a little tweaking would go a long way. That said, if her clothes are what she’s into and she’s happy, whatever.

    • QueensGlo says:

Sorry but she’s not beautiful at all IMO. Just hyped.
She sort of odd looking and the thinner she gets the cartoon like she looks.

  10. lisa2 says:

I like the outfit. I would wear that big time.

  11. Dr.Funkenstein says:

    Mrs. Green Jeans.

    • Nic919 says:

My dad grew up on a farm and wore coveralls that colour when he was a kid. I have seen pictures and this looks like a very slightly classed up version of what he wore.

She honestly doesn’t look professional here. I know there are times she is not working but this is stupid casual, not stylish. And is it even warm enough in London right now to wear this without a top?

  12. Kitten says:

I kind of like it, actually. And I’m refraining from commenting about her weight.

    (^see what I did there^)

    • Mary says:

I’ll jump on your wagon, Kitten, and say that I will also not opine that I really really think she’s anorexic. And I kind of like the jumpsuit. I would wear it with a cute flat and a t-shirt or tank, though. All the pee-pee comments make me smile. She probably likes the fact that she’ll be forced to not eat or drink while wearing this. Cuz like I’m not saying, I think she’s got an ED.

  13. georgia says:

I love her outfit. I’m skinny so I do get offended about the “too skinny” and “too thin” comments.

    • FLORC says:

Amal’s weight was consistent until she met George. Then she lost it very quickly and appeared to be losing muscle mass as well. It doesn’t appear she’s losing it in a healthy manner. If there was any tone on her i’d change my thought on this.

So, it’s not about being thin. What she is though is not natural for her. I’m thin too and not offended because the context is very different.

      • Maia says:

There are more pictures on dailymail that are shot from the back, and those arms are scary looking. I do not think that anyone could possibly think that is healthy.

    • Mary says:

Georgia: My thoughts and experience: There’s skinny, as in slender– and clothes look good on you and you still retain your natural girl curves (I love being skinny!!)… and there’s skinny, as in Skinny, skeletal, bony, angular, emaciated, skin and bones. While you’re shopping for clothes you think you’ll look great in, you hear kids say things like, “Eeww–Mom! Look at her! Look at her, Mom!” when you walk by, and it’s not because you inspire. You repel.

Just FYI: I’ve been there. Anorexia/calorie denial/fasts, (Power! Strength! Control! Yes! Yes!! Don’t eat! Not hungry! Just bored! Drink water!). I was able to dig out of an ED, but (and here’s the sicko part) I still love the memories of having that control, that strength to limit my calories and have absolute power over what I choose to consume. I think eating disorders are a form of addiction, and should be treated as such.

  14. Beth No. 2 says:

I don’t follow the Amalooney news, but does this woman do anything else besides get deliberately papped in the streets decked out in some overpriced threads, huge sunglasses and coiffured hair? Isn’t she a barrister? Pity if she’s the sort who needs to spend hours sprucing up her looks before she deigns to step outside.

    • MinnFinn says:

Your post makes me think of Ling Woo who was an attorney on the tv show Ally McBeal. Ling did not have any cases assigned to her for several months or longer after she joined the show’s law firm. She was furious when she got her first assignment because she said she only took the job so she would have a place to wear her outfits.

  15. lamamu says:

She’s become a disappearing woman like so many who feel that pressure. It’s really too bad.

    • QueensGlo says:

She was extremely thin when he married her, people were looking at her through rose coloured glasses IMO. This woman has always been terribly thin, now it’s gotten worse.
I thought she looked terribly skinny on the wedding day, but the clothes were just tailored better.

  16. MinnFinn says:

That outfit is missing something – a red bandana tied around her neck or perhaps a ratty straw hat but not both cuz that would be overkill.

  17. Skyblue says:

Again…another selection from the wardrobe closet of Friends…Jennifer aniston/Courtney cox, circa 1995

  18. Jaded says:

She looks like a string bean.

  19. KellyBee says:

This jumpsuit is not for her. It’s too big for one and she very straight up and down and the jumpsuit only emphasizes that. Not to mention the low crotch makes her Legs look short.

This is outfit may work better on someone like Charlize Theron or Jennifer Lawrence.

  20. GPSB says:

Incredibly, my favorite part of her look is the shoes.

    • Kiddo says:

I think to wear shoes like that, you really kind of need pretty feet and toes, because there isn’t a lot of solid structure to them, since they look like glove leather.

  21. SmellyCat says:

    I’m so over Amal Clooney!

  22. ickythump says:

If this is deliberate and she is not ill then she’s gone way too far IMO – and I canny stand her or her husband and their phoney life. So there….

  23. Nilo says:

Yes, she is very skinny (I would not mind shedding a few pounds, so I’m a bit jealous actually) but what makes me absolutely ***cringe*** are her toes and and it looks as though she has bunions. They probably hurt like hell. One day she will need an operation.

  24. Penelope says:

    Hideous and age-inappropriate.

  25. Robin says:

That outfit is ridiculous. She looks like she’s playing farmer. And the shoes look like hooves.

  26. tracking says:

She looks like a prepubescent boy in this outfit. Very unflattering.

  27. Nonny says:

I wouldn’t wear that to wash my car!

    • Kiddo says:

I would if it were made up of that super absorbent shammy material. It cuts down on labor and materials.

      • boredblond says:

Imagining kiddo rolling over the sudsy hood of a car 😁 top pic..there’s that bulge again! Are the clothes ill-fitting, or are you really happy to see the paps? 😈

  28. GingerCrunch says:

When I read the headline, I imagined her wearing a goegeous emerald green, flowy silk number. GAH! Thanks for ruining my daydream if you, Amal! Jeez.

  29. FLORC says:

These outfits of hers are worse than “tragic”. They’re just awful or ugly. Although her handbags are forever amazing.
    That jumpsuit though… yuck.

  30. sassy says:

i can’t get past those toes

    • Lizzieb says:

Yes, those toes are hideous. The jumpsuit is ugly too: ugly color and ugly tailoring.

  31. India says:

    Toes

  32. PHD Gossip says:

The veiny, skinny arms are the worst part of this get up. Every outfit Amal wears should include sleeves NO MATTER WHAT?

  33. Margareth says:

She is not skinny. She can only be considered skinny in America in the last decade, where obesity is the new normal and a 2015 woman weighs more than a 1960s man. She is not skinnier than Audrey Hepburn, Veronica Lake, a young Jane Fonda or Natalie Wood. And she wouldn’t be considered too skinny anywhere in the world except the Anglosphere (the US, UK, Australia, etc.).

The hate for Amal Clooney mostly comes from the fact that she is the living proof that a woman can still be slender in her late 30s, if she stays away from soda and doughnuts, that she has class and you don’t have to be vulgar, obnoxious, snarky and aggressive to be an intelligent, accomplished woman. Also, the hate and envy come come from the fact that she succeeded to land a highly desirable husband, still the secret dream of the vast majority of women, including some of the self-proclaimed “don’t need a man” feminists.

    • Prince Valiant says:

      Ditto.

    • Maia says:

I agree with everything except the ‘she is not skinny’ comment. Take a look at these pictures.
      http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-3139104/Amal-Clooney-looks-impeccable-wearing-chic-khaki-jumpsuit-London.html

The picture taken from behind – I do not see a lot of muscle tone in her. I see skin and bones.

      • Montrealise says:

Compare her to pictures of elite marathon runners – they’re very thin, but you can clearly see their muscle tone. Amal has none. Extreme dieting does that – you not only lose fat, but you lost muscle as well. Since marrying George, she’s been moving in social circles whose mantra is `You Can Never Be Too Thin` and I’m afraid she may have taken that to heart.

    • Granger says:

From my perspective as a slim, 44-year-old North American woman who doesn’t eat donuts and never drinks soda, Amal Clooney looks pretty skinny.

    • noway says:

She is most likely medically underweight. As I don’t know her exact weight, I couldn’t say for sure, but she is 5’10” and to not be medically underweight she would have to weigh 130lbs, and I just don’t see that, especially since cameras add 10 lbs. She doesn’t look 130lbs. much less 140.

The Anglosphere as you call it may be overweight, but at least in the USA, we know about body size and weight. It is not like most overweight Americans don’t know they are overweight and want to weigh less. We certainly do not have a society that thinks overweight is the ideal. If so we wouldn’t have a billion dollar industry trying to make us all lose weight. The ideal American body type is thin, not fat.

Your comment is all the things you claim to hate about the Amal comments. To assume that overweight women in their 30’s eat donuts and sodas and are envious of Amal for marrying GC is very judgmental. Pot meet Kettle. FYI, I am not overweight, eat donuts and soda occasionally, older than 30’s, happily married, great job, and find the Amal Clooney PR circus a fascinating show for a few laughs.

    • MinnFinn says:

Amal is as skinny or skinnier than circa 1962 Twiggy and Amal definitely has less body fat than any of the women you mention when they were in their early 20s. Just google their photos.

Having said that, I agree that our current levels of obesity could skew one’s perception of healthy levels of body fat.

      • SideEye Sally says:

It’s been stated in several articles that Amal is 5’7″ or 5’8″…..and estimated to weigh around 95 pounds. This was Twiggy’s waif-like body at the height of her modeling career. Clearly, this is seriously underweight – whether your perspective is from the Anglosphere or other. Her arms are extremely thin. There are photos where George has his hand wrapped around her upper arm and it seems as though his thumb and index finger nearly touch. Refer to the photos of them at the Met Gala in NYC.

    • QueensGlo says:

You do realise that Audrey Hepburn was skinny because she went through puberty during the The a World War and had to hide for several years from the Nazi’s and had NO Food, to eat and suffered severe starvation, during those years which caused stomach trouble for her as an adult woman in her twenties and her entire life, , after the war and she could not Eat normally like other people. Audrey’s thinness was caused by years of starvation and she had severe stomach problems , medical conditions where she simply could not eat properly or digest food properly, which the Hollywood brass, kept quiet. So….Audrey’s thinnest was because of a medical condition and years of enforced starvation during the war hiding from the Nazi army,

Veronica Lake was small is stature, 4, 11 some say, or 5’2″ by some reports, but she was Naturally TINY…she was one of the most petite , short actresses in Hollywood. She was a small woman in stature, but she still had a figure. Veronica Lake NEVER looke Emaciated, she looked like a petite beautiful woman

Amal looks like Olive Oyl, her looks are Cartoonish. There is nothing beautiful about her extreme thinness, it looks unhealthy.
A better comparison to Amal would be Olive Oyl. Terribly skinny arms, , hanging clothes on thin frame and big feet.

    • ickythump says:

She was stunning and glowing on her wedding day – why did she think she had to lose weight? There is a “thin” line, pardon the pun, between looking slender and looking emaciated and she has crossed it. Which may be her choice but I think its a shame.

      • QueensGlo says:

She was terribly skinny on her wedding day, the clothes were just tailored well.
She has never been beautiful, IMO it’s always been Hype. I find her awkward looking.

  34. oneshot says:

I’ll say it, her street style is tragic. A brief trawl through the archives of the Sartorialist on any given day would probably bring up far more stylish and inspirational outfits, even the ones worn solely for peacocking purposes, than Amalooney’s insane Park-Avenue-tries-edgy mishmash outfits.

(seriously, Amal should ask Anna dello Russo for tips on how to look good while courting attention for being a fashion plate. Anna literally wrote the book, and is FAR better at it than Amalooney.)

but my criticism of her terrible style and pap-courting doesn’t mean I condone the barely veiled racism of some people who like to use her Middle Eastern ancestry as proof that she must be an anti-Semite or Hezbollah funder.

  35. lisa2 says:

When the post went up I thought it was going to be the picture of her in that black lace jumper.. She was out to dinner with Stella McCartney. Not sure about the black one. I think Amal thinks of herself as sexy.. especially when she is going out.. but I don’t get a sexy vibe from her.. But I do like some of her clothes.. I said before she must have a HUGE closet.. purses and shoes and tons of free outfits now.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-3137317/Amal-Clooney-looks-glamorous-lace-jumpsuit-night-Stella-McCartney-heading-straight-work-chic-white-ensemble.html

    • Dionsa says:

She is Extremely confident (with an intentional capital “E”) and thinks very highly of herself. So much so, others around her believe, as she does, that she is beautiful, exquisite and desirable. *

      *information from possible first-hand experience

  36. lowercaselois says:

OMG she is skin and bones, that is not normal looking to me.

    • Christin says:

There is a back view on DM that shows a complete lack of backside, and her hair looks dry and matted from that angle. I don’t think she was fully pap ready this time.

    • QueensGlo says:

She looks awful, , but her fans keep pretending she looks beautiful as a walking bag of bones. The woman looks emaciated. IMO awfully skinny,

      • nicole says:

Anybody with an ounce of sense can see she is terribly skinny, she has no figure whatsoever. Anybody that finds that attractive needs to get there eyes tested. She has delibertly lost weight since her engagement to George, she isnt the most attractive women in my view, I think she has very sharp features, which only stand out more since she has lost so much weight, if she gained some weight she would be much softer looking. Shes a complete fashion victim with no natural style at all.

  37. taxi says:

Horribly unbecoming on her. It’s ill-fitting & she has hideous feet which should be kept in closed-toe shoes. Imo, she looks unhealthily thin & I say that as a thin person. However, that handbag is killer – I want it! Who makes it?

  38. Trillian says:

I have a work overall I bought for painting the house that looks alot like this one. And man she has ugly toes.

  39. Christin says:

The jumperalls look takes me back to the early 1990s. You could easily find an outfit like this (baggy midsection, buttons and all), except it came with a plain little white undershirt.

  40. Sos101 says:

I don’t like the outfit on her. Maybe Cheryl Cole could rock it. Also loving that Post Script – HA!

  41. celine says:

Not to body shame, but she’s so thin girlfriend is looking concave. Reminds me of the scarecrow in Jeepers Creepers. My God, even her pigeon toes want to make a run for it, they arrive at the destination before she does.

  42. Mikie says:

Anybody have a ID/ designer on the handbag. Can’t find it anywhere.

  43. AtlLady says:

Amal has definitely lost a lot of weight since she hooked up with George. She was trim to begin with but now she looks skeletal. This makes me wonder if George wanted her to lose weight so her figure would more resemble that of a young boy, if rumors about his sexuality are to be believed. OR, if rumors are true about George’s political aspirations, after all the years of boasting that he would never marry again EVER, he hooked up with and married Amal very quickly, maybe he looked for someone who is ill and not expected to live more than a few more years. Folks in the States might not have any opinion about Amal, her career, or her “brilliance”, but they might be politically swayed by the “poor widower” who had such a short time with the love of his life that took him so long to find. It would get him off the hook while running for office for not having a wife and excuse him from trying to find another. He is an actor and knows how to play with smoke and mirrors to deflect closer scrutiny. Do I think George is gay? I really don’t care one way or the other but many people still seem to care about such things.

  44. Blue says:

She usually looks great in her work clothes but then I saw the suitcase she is taking to the car so she must be travelling somewhere then I realized these must be her casual clothes, her casual designer clothes are always tragic and these overalls are too big for her too skinny frame. She looked great though in that jumpsuit she went out in with Stella McCartney.

    • Jayna says:

I’m surprised Celebitchy missed that one. I loved that jumpsuit too where she was going out to dinner that was out I think yesterday or the day before. And she looked not as thin in that one. In the one photo she looked great in it, and Stella actually designed a great jumpsuit.

This one looks good from the front, but the back of it I saw in a link someone posted is tragic, not flattering at all. Just a mess. If she backs out of a room, she’ll be fine. LOL

  45. wow says:

LMAO @ Kaiser’s comment about Kate probably having button-envy. 😂

I’m not a fan of this buttony jumpsuit, but she looks comfy.

  46. Nimbolicious says:

Well, now I know what a romper would look like on a pterodactyl.

    • Ankhel says:

That’s not very nice. Very funny, though. Here – have a doughnut, and some soda!

      • Nimbolicious says:

Why, thank you. Don’t mind if I do! ‘Cause you know I only said that because I’m fat, uneducated and lusting after the “highly desirable” Kloons……..

  47. Camilla says:

Her hair looks quite thin and lifeless here, did she forget to put her extensions in? I guess she can’t do anything about her feet, but wearing shoes that actually flatter them as opposed to trying so hard to be trendy, would surely help.

  48. maggie says:

Love it! It’s something I would wear. She has great style.

  49. redd says:

For the love of GOD, EAT SOMETHING!

  50. raincoaster says:

It’s significantly too short, particularly with those shoes, and it needs tailoring. It’s not heinous, but it’s not awesome.

  51. E.M. MAXX says:

Old lady bag with painters tape …no thanks

  52. Goga says:

    OMG the TOES!!!!

  53. dawnchild says:

I’m so tired of this woman being shoved down us as a desirable fashion icon/role model type. I don’t get it. Who’s doing this shoving? Why is she photographed so much? Is it because I’m clicking on these horrid photos? If so, serves me right…since this is altogether frightful…the wasted muscles, crepey-skin, gaunt face, self-conscious writhing and coyness; not to mention the schizophrenic clothing choices.

She was attractive and interesting; now she seems ill-looking and narcissistic.

    • nicole says:

The paparazzi is paid to take her pictures, by either George himself or her Mother. Beleive me when they dont want to be seen you dont see them. For nearly two weeks we had no photos at all, and now tha paparazzi are back on the payroll for more Amal pap walks all sponsored by the lastest fashion freebies shes been given.

  54. siri says:

I don’t think this is a healthy look, and actually, Karen Carpenter comes to (my) mind. Amal looks scrawny, and her otherwise perfect hair looks comparedly dull.
    http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2015/06/25/14/29F6846800000578-3139104-image-a-103_1435239274726.jpg
The jumpsuit actually accentuates her lank frame. If that was my daughter, I would be worried.
