Lupita Nyong’o & her little red Dior dress at Paris Fashion Week: adorable?

wenn22662375

Paris Fashion Week has begun in earnest. Usually, the mid-summer PFWs (for the Fall-Winter ’15-16 collections) aren’t all that exciting, as many of the fashion girls would rather be drunk on a yacht rather than pounding the pavement in Paris. But yesterday’s Dior show got a really great turnout, including LUPITA!!! We haven’t seen Lupita Nyong’o since May, at the Cannes Film Festival. Lupita is great at “going away.” She’s great at not overstaying her welcome and keeping an air of exclusivity around her social schedule, especially post-Oscar-win. The result is that whenever Lupita shows up on a red carpet or any kind of event, she’s always big news. Yay!

Obviously, I think Lupita looks great. Her little Dior dress is adorable and her face is life-affirming. It looks like she’s growing out her hair and I love it. It really frames her exquisite face. As for what Lupita has been up to… she’s been filming Queen of Katwe with David Oyelowo for weeks/months. IMDB says it’s still filming, although a glance at Lupita’s Instagram reveals that she just took a nice “glamping” vacation in her native Kenya. Glamping = glam camping, as in Lupita wasn’t really in a sleeping bag under the stars – she was staying at what looks like a beautiful resort. She also became an ambassador for WildAid’s efforts to save the African elephant.

More photos from the Dior show… Natalia Vodianova looks about 15 years old in this get-up. I’m sort of jealous of her forever-youthful look.

Emily Blunt looks pretty but I have peplum exhaustion.

I love this little minidress/jumper on Rosie Huntington-Whiteley but you have to admit, she’s the only one who can really pull it off.

What’s with all the baby clothes?

    • lisa2 says:

      LOL thank you..

I feel like all these women now are wearing baby doll cloths.. on RC and in their daily life.. baby clothes is the right adjective.

    • blue marie says:

Ha, I didn’t even notice but after taking another look at the photos, you’re right. Lupita has nice legs, but not a fan of the shoes.

    • A says:

Natalia especially looks ridiculous in her little girl dress.
She’s too tall and too old looking both in face and legs to be able to pull that off. She frankly looks ridiculous.

      • Pandy says:

That’s what I thought too! For once, it’s a style for petite ladies – although a bit little girl-ish for my tastes.

      • Birdix says:

My 8-yr-old would turn her nose up at that dress for being to baby-ish. It’s over the top…

    • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Right? I was looking at a catalog last night, and asked myself what grown woman would wear something called a “romper?”

      • doofus says:

ugh…and those “rompers” are ALL OVER. infantilizing women will NEVER END as that’s what men want.

in a related note, I watched a very sad/interesting documentary by Rashida Jones about (very) young women who get into the pr0n industry, and “teen” is the NUMBER ONE search term used for people looking for pr0n. the “agent” for these women talked about this “perfect” girl who was “18 with double Ds but she looks 12”. sickening.

      • LadyoftheLoch says:

Ugh! Makes me want to simultaneously gouge my eyes out and stab myself through the ribcage whenever I read stuff like that, doofus. There’s a huge sickness at large in the world.

      • doofus says:

Lady, the doc was SO sad…these girls think they’re all going to be STARS and wind up being discarded by the industry after a few months to a year because 1) the users always want “fresh faces” and 2) there are ALWAYS fresh faces who want into the industry.

      • LadyoftheLoch says:

I will probably cry buckets, but will MAKE myself watch this. The worst feeling is the sense of powerlessness, knowing the likely fate of these girls after they are dumped from the conveyor belt, and not knowing how to change anything.

      • doofus says:

Lady, I couldn’t even make it to the end…and I felt sick to my stomach after what I did see.

      • lisa2 says:

        @doofus.

I don’t want to make this some huge thing.. but sadly it seems that what is happening in porn does sadly influence what women are doing.. I mean Porn has women that are fully shaved. Men enjoyed that so women started doing it..Big boobs, and even those butt injections; all have come from the Porn industry. Porn has women dressed in clothing to resemble little girls.. so we see more and more fashion influenced by that and women’s clothing is looking like little girl clothing.

I wonder if women really understand that or do we as a whole think these fashion choices are solely our own..

UGH makes me sick to really think about it.

      • LadyoftheLoch says:

Doofus: So sad. The b*stards at the top of this dung heap are terrorists in every sense of the word, and should be vaporised. Imho.

      • LadyoftheLoch says:

lisa2: Great points, raising great questions.

      • doofus says:

good point lisa2, and I totally agree, Lady. though vaporizing is too quick/painless for these monsters.

      • GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Wow, you guys, I just came back and read this. So sad, and I had never thought about these connections. Why do you think so many men want childlike women? Maybe as we gain more power, a younger and more easily influenced person is appealing? Sick.

  2. Catelina says:

I feel like there’s no way Lupita is still filming that Katwe movie. It was reported she had a supporting role when she first started filming. She’s probably just chilling now, maybe gearing up for Star Wars junkets

    • Kiki says:

I love her hair. It is growing and hpshe looks great. i hope she is doing well and she is doing movies. Maybe 2 movies, but still good she is going to be fine. She will do fine and she will be great. I wish her well on her sucess especially with Star Wars supporting role.

      • Original T.C. says:

        +1

Supporting or not it’s still a quality project with Star Wars quality exposure no matter how small the role. Many examples of actors in 5-10 minute roles that stood out.

Back to fashion LOL. I love her natural hair, it really works perfectly for her face. That video on her Instagram dancing with what looks like her grandmother is beyond adorable. Happy she is still firmly connected to her home country and is taking on the cause to save the African Elephants. I love wild animals and it wounds my heart when I hear about them hunted down and being erased from our planet. Urgh ivory hunters!

      • Kiki says:

@originalT.C I know she will be great in the Star Wars film. She might have a huge impact and left an impression. Who knows blow us away. I just said before I wish her the best on her sucess.

      • LadyoftheLoch says:

Original T.C: + 10 million to your last paragraph.

Elephants are the most amazing creatures (and to me they are THE most amazing of all). I’m so glad Lupita is working to raise awareness and help their cause.

  3. Beth No. 2 says:

The dresses are basic as hell.

    • LadyoftheLoch says:

This. Lupita’s dress is nicely cut and the colour suits her, but otherwise it’s bland and blah, and way too childish.

  4. Miko says:

I guess I’m alone but I hate that jumper. It’s hideous. Even on Rosie.

  5. lucy2 says:

Lupita looks pretty, as does Emily. I don’t like the child-like look of several of these outfits.

  6. Mia4S says:

Is Lupita going to Comic Con or the Disney convention for Star Wars? I know she just has a supporting CGI part but sometimes they try to have a large number of actors to drum up hype.

  7. LAK says:

Just to point out that the summer fashion week is actually Couture fashion week NOT ready to wear fashion week.

  8. Franca says:

This is the worst she has ever looked, and she had a lot of questionable outfits. I feel like she does a lot of fashion events, not exactly exclusive?

What is going on with Emily’s face?
Am I the only one who doesn’t think Rosie is pretty at all?
Natalia Vodianova, on the other hand, what a beauty. My favourite model.

    • Alexandra says:

I thought that too. I don’t mind Lupita, but she was definitely EVERYWHERE after she won her Oscar. So much so that there was almost backlash about her.

    • bread says:

Yeah, it definitely looks like Emily Blunt has had something done to her face. Slightly stiff and a bit plumper in the cheeks?

    • notasugarhere says:

I would say the hideous green outfit from the Met Gala was the absolute worst. She looks cute here, but the style of all of these dresses are for little girls not women.

  9. Catelina says:

Also is it just me or is the very pushed back hairline kind of….unflattering? And I think her makeup is too heavy here and the dress is cute but nothing special. Basically her gorgeous face is the only thing worth mentioning here.

    • senna says:

I adore Lu but I wish she’d stop with the sparkly bright eyeshadow. I could deal with coloured eyeliner or a tiny dash of colour. That’d be fun, and only evident in a close-up. But the shadow always feels like it distracts from her face rather than complementing it.

  10. serena says:

I like Lupita’s dress but it’s kind of bland, a good big necklace would have been perfect on it.

  11. Lilacflowers says:

I’m so glad my cousin’s Catholic school uniform has gotten a new life! Thank you, Natalia for rescuing it. Rosie, your romper is riding up in front. Please fix it. Discretely.

    Love Emily’s shoes.

  12. Jules says:

Yikes!…I REALLY do not like any of these at all. Wow…baby doll dresses and rompers. I wasn’t missing Nyong’o so I guess I’m not one of those saying “yay!” and her look here is well, dreadful. Ugh.

  13. Kym says:

    [commentator whispering]
“We’ve secretly replaced the outfits that these beautiful actresses were going to wear with actual clothing from their male co-stars 13 year old girlfriends…”

  14. Ratchetosity says:

Lupita is gaining weight. I’m just saying.

    • bread says:

I don’t agree. She’s always had a lot wider bottom half than top half, and this outfit is showcasing her thick legs rather than her narrow chest.

      • TrixC says:

Yeah I think it’s just an unflattering outfit. That length and cut really puts the focus on her legs, which have always been bigger.

  15. InvaderTak says:

Ugh. Catholic school girl uniform will never ever be high fashion. It’s just creepy.

  16. Shitler says:

    Those legs..

  17. Tracy says:

Lupita looks brilliant. Natalia looks ridiculous. And can we please ban anything called a “romper” forever?

  18. SamLT says:

Oh my, that’s some forehead NAGL but maybe I’m biased as I seem to have lost whatever it was I once saw in Lupita. I feel she’s the new Jessica Alba, showcasing fashion for money and no acting anymore. Like she wants to be a celebrity and not an actor IDK.

    • KellyBee says:

I’m not sure how you can say that when she just got finished filming two movies and is in the process of filming another.

Not to mention other then these fashion/ make events in which she has a contract with some she is not seen.

    • Samtha says:

It might not be her choice. There was a story a few months after she won her Oscar about how she wasn’t really being offered many roles, despite the win.

  19. MinnFinn says:

Emily Blunt’s top looks more like a tunic than a peplum to me. And Rosie’s dress looks like something Taylor Swift would wear.

  20. Livealot says:

    Rosie can do no wrong.

  21. Naddie says:

Lupita’s dress is pretty, I just don’t like the upper part. Still, I’m tired of seeing her wardrobe choices being in more evidence than her acting.
Natalia is just so beautiful, oh my… there’s a brazillian actress who looks exactly like her, but ginger.
Rosie is always tacky and annoying, I’ll look up for interviews of her to kill this bad impression… or perpetuate it.

  22. Andrea says:

Do you think Lupita and Fassbender ever hooked up?

    • Kiki says:

No. I think however Michael Fassbender had a crush on her, which I think what guy wouldn’t because she is beautiful, and I also think it him having a crush on Lupita is very endearing. I know I will have som backlash soon. But that’s all I will have to say.

      • Andrea says:

I don’t get why you would get backlash for the above. An older man especially a known bachelor having a crush on someone is very endearing/sweet.

      • Kiki says:

Why thank you @ Andrea. Which is why I still believe in Michael Fassbender’s heart he is still very much in love with a black woman. and anyone can tell me that I am wrong, but I root for interracial love, especially black women and loving white men.

      • Andrea says:

I’d take him hands down, but let’s be honest, I am probably too pasty for him (although I am half-italian, but I look more swedish/danish) LOL

      • A says:

He doesn’t seem to have that much of a specific type or whatever. He seems to like thin young women/girls with darker complexions. Meaning anything other than blond and ginger, just going by his past girlfriends but who knows…I’ve known men who have only liked redheaded women, like literally all his ex’s have had red hair and very white skin and guess who he fell madly in love with and married? A raven haired tanned complexion woman with brown eyes. He said he never loved his exes as much as he loves her, that was his true love.
So you never know! Men say they have a type but then fall in love with the complete opposite, i think if she’s beautiful men don’t really care all that much about coloring.

  23. Pabena6 says:

I have a question about Lupita’s hair (and I think she looks lovely, no shade), but — is that her natural hair line? Or is she shaving it back? It seems way different than her earlier appearance, but it also doesn’t look like it’s THERE but just scraped back. It looks gone, smooth. If it’s shaved, that seems like an odd choice to me, but I haven’t changed my hair in 30 years, so what do I know?!

  24. Fanny says:

Lupita always looks good, but Dior has turned to such shit. Everything is either basic or hideous. I can’t wait for them to fire Raf Simons.

  25. MD says:

Natalia is so pretty. She looks like a teenager.
    I don’t like these dresses.
