Amber Heard took Johnny Depp’s name ‘to prove she’s in it for the long haul’

Amber Heard

Amber Heard and Johnny Depp are still married, shockingly. They’ll stay married for a few years at least. Amber enjoys the status, and Johnny enjoys knowing he has a much younger wife. Johnny is in Australia finishing Pirates 5. He keeps visiting children’s hospitals, which may be his way of making us forget all about his embarrassing behavior. Johnny has a good heart, but I think he likes being Jack Sparrow because he never has to break out of character. Johnny can stagger around and act drunk, and no one will ever know if he’s actually wasted or simply acting. He’s probably also bored out of his mind.

Johnny can take comfort in this OK! report (via Radar) that says his lovely bride, Amber Heard, has changed her name to Amber Depp:

Over five months after she got hitched to Johnny Depp in a tropical paradise, Amber Heard is scrambling to repair their rocky relationship.

Her first order of business? The 29-year-old is proving her commitment to Depp, 52, by changing her last name.

“She’s keeping her maiden name professionally, but legally, she has changed it to Depp,” an insider tells OK!. “It’s her way of trying to prove to him that she’s in it for the long haul.”

So far, so good, notes the insider. “Things have calmed down — they’re not fighting and really seem happy!”

[From Radar Online]

This report is probably accurate, although OK! didn’t even need a real source to confirm. Amber would love to be known as Mrs. Depp, but she’ll keep her own name professionally so she can feel like she wins roles on her own merits. Depp is an awesome last name even if it evokes mental images of scarfy closets.

Oh, this is funny. Amber was served with an Australian summons to appear in court over Terriergate. She’ll have to answer questions about why she smuggled Boo and Pistol into the country without following quarantine procedures. Perhaps Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce didn’t take kindly to how Amber called him a fame seeker.

(UPDATE: Amber has been formally charged with illegally importing the dogs and falsifying a document. That’s gonna be a hefty fine!)

Slightly related news. Lily Rose Depp, 16, has been named the new face of Chanel.

  1. GlimmerBunny says:

Lily-Rose looks so much like her mother! Beautiful girl.

    • Jegede says:

I think Lily Rose is actually the IMAGE of Johnny.

From the deep brown eyes, to the cheekbones.

Their son Jack, looks more like Vanessa.

      • jinni says:

I think Lily is a combination of her parents, leaning more towards Johnny. While Jack is JD’s twin with dimples.

      • GlimmerBunny says:

The eyes do look like Johnny’s, but I think the rest of her facial features are more Vanessa. Great mix of their jgenes anyway!

      • Miffy says:

She definitely won the genetic lottery, she got both of her parents best features. Beautiful girl.

    • Katenotkatie says:

It was only a matter of time before Lily-Rose started working with Chanel. She’s gorgeous and I hope she’ll be able to handle the whole fame game at such a young age.

    • Franca says:

She’s a cute girl, but nothing special. Another celebrity offspring becoming a model. Yawn.
      Is she even tall enough?

      • jinni says:

Nope, she’s short , just like her mom who also models for Chanel. So I doubt she’ll be hitting the runway (where her height would be a problem) and just be a face/ editorial model like her mother.

      • PANDY says:

Yeah, cos I want to buy make up and face cream sold to me by a 16 year old. Zero relevance to my life.

      • itzblissy says:

most models are nothing special. I have never found any model to be especially attractive, just they are striking in photographs and thats just what they are for.

  2. Sassback says:

    MISTAKE.

  3. Freebunny says:

Liliy Rose mother was also (still?) a Channel face.

  4. Salamander says:

    Gross.

  5. Kiddo says:

    Amber is very beautiful.

    • SilkyP says:

Yes, she’s very beautiful, but in my opinion mostly so in photographs. When you see her talking she seems less beautiful, but it is hard for me to pinpoint why. I would be interested to hear others’ opinion on this, see her recent Magic Mike XXL interview: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jh5–uCR-AM
Also, it doesn’t help that she seems to use as many ‘difficult’ words as possible, maybe in an effort to come across as intelligent.

      • Shambles says:

I think it may be that when you hear her talking, SilkyP, she becomes less beautiful. The ridiculous things that come out of her mouth at times tend to outshine her admittedly lovely face.

      • Salamander says:

Ha Ha. That interview is hilarious. Amber is totally ridiculous. She takes herself soooo seriously it is hysterical. And about Magic Mike XXL of all movies!! Even Channing Tatum–especially Channing Tatum—doesn’t take it seriously at all. He knows exactly what the movie is. And watch Andie McDowell. Watch her little hand twitches as Amber speaks. Obviously Amber drives her bananas. Very funny. Thank you for posting.

      • Sunsetsnow says:

I couldn’t finish it my eyes were rolling so hard. It did her no favors whatsoever.

    • Franca says:

I just saw Magic Mike, and while she has about 3 lines in it, she is stunning. STUNNING.
Jada also looked amazing in it.

  6. Flahoola says:

Lily-Rose will become more famous than Amber…

  7. Liz says:

    nepotism at its finest!

    • Mmmhmm says:

Karl Lagerfeld reportedly handpicked her though. She would be a model even if she didn’t have famous parents.

      • Liz says:

And he also hand picked Kendall Jenner so I think my point still stands!

      • Mia4S says:

He “handpicked” her from a social circle she was already in with him. He’s known her parents for years…so yes nepotism. Also she’s starting to act…I guess we will see.

She might do well but let’s not pretend she had to work hard. And the media wonders why Hollywood is chasing after all the British actors? Maybe it’s because they’ve had to work and train and weren’t handed careers at 16.

      • qwerty says:

Yeah, no. She’s short. If she was a random girl without a surname who walked into a model agency they’d start laughing at her.

    • Ankhel says:

She doesn’t look good in that photo – more like a little girl playing dress-up. Which I guess she is. Lagerfeld wouldn’t have hired her except for her parents.

      • Naddie says:

That’s what I think. Pretty? For sure. But nothing extraordinary or photogenic.

      • Neah23 says:

I feel the same way. The picture took awhile to load for me so I read the comments first and was expecting this extraordinary photo and when i saw it its just a photo of any kid U.S.A playing dress up.

      • Tiffany :) says:

The photo gives me Lolita vibes, but maybe that is just me.

  8. Lilacflowers says:

The long haul? Four years as opposed to two?

    • Refinnje says:

      Zing!

    • MeeMow says:

It’s confusing that she would think changing her name is what proves she’s in it for the long haul. I thought that’s what marriage vows were for?

    • Shambles says:

Psh, marriage vows. Silly. It’s not REAAAALLY real until she posts about it on Instagram.

    • Miffy says:

I would have thought, y’know, the marriage implied it was a long term thing, no? I’m old fashioned like that I guess.

  9. Eleonor says:

I like the Chanel photo !

  10. mememe says:

I want the sunglasses Lily Rose is wearing!

  11. Anon says:

What Johnny did with the kids at the hospital is just plain amazing and heartwarming. He really wanted to be there and just put a smile on their faces. The videos of the visit make my heart melt.He is such a sweet and nice man and I am convinced that what he does for the people has nothing to do with publicity. There is even an article from Australia that says that he asked the media to leave from the hospital. He only talked to the kids’s in the hospital tv program. He is an awesome person, not perfect but awesome.Tabloids want us to believe otherwise but his acts speak louder. On another note I actually like that Amber has changed her last name if true.I totally see them last for quite some time despite what anybody says.Oh and how gorgeous is Lily-Rose?!

    • Gigi says:

Why didn’t she change it right away when they tied the knot, but waited for a time to make a “statement” with it? Which just so happens to coincide with some not so good news regarding her. LOL!!

    • Miffy says:

I agree, you can’t fault his hospital visits. Even if there was a touch of PR to them he made very sick children smile and gave them some amazing memories. You can’t shade someone for that. Much respect. His life on paper seems messy these days but the hospital visit was a wonderful thing to do.

  12. lucy2 says:

I just read she’s actually been charged and could be facing fines and prison time (which we know won’t happen). Guess she won’t be working in Australia any time soon!

    • TeaAndSympathy says:

Barnaby Joyce is such a twat. It’s like he’s become a pit bull with a bloody bone over the Depp Doggies. He’s actually more like an old, cantankerous, sunburned, white chihuahua… It’s typical of this ultra-conservative, God-bothering, control freak to take the biggest stick he can find to bang on about this issue. Yes, she/they did the wrong thing, but he’s coming across as the dour and cruel headmaster, because he’ll show ’em! Talk about overkill. Give them a stern talking to, a formal caution, issue the mandatory fine and Let. It. Go.

And I’m not even a fan of the Depps.

      • Peggy says:

It is the law, when you think you’re above the law you have to deal with the fall out.
Joyce is not the one bringing the charges.
Johnny should’ve charged also he knew the laws, because they are using monkeys brought into the Country.

      • MissF says:

I don’t agree with that. I think they have some very unique flora and fauna and their laws are strict in order to protect that. They cannot be seen to be letting the rich and famous flaunt those rules. They’re just letting the world know that the same rules apply, no matter who you are. That can only be a good thing. As it is Amber will certainly escape prison time.

      • TeaAndSympathy says:

Absolutely, ladies. We do have unique and precious fauna and flora, that is rightly protected by strict laws. I completely agree with those laws, and have no issue that lawbreakers face consequences. My issue is that I have close friends who work in customs and quarantine. They often tell me of visitors arriving from all parts, bringing raw or home-made food – even lizards and small snakes – which they do not declare. They are charged and usually given a hefty fine, especially if it’s not a first offence. Then there are those who try to smuggle out live native birds, lizards, small mammals etc. These are dealt with more harshly, but there’s still not all this fanfare and threats of $300 000 fines or terms of 10 years in gaol. I realise it’s because they are high-profile and it makes news and brings awareness to our laws, and I have no problem with these two copping a punishment, but it seems like they’re cracking a walnut with a sledgehammer.

  13. Ronda says:

Trivia: Depp means idiot in german.

Im disappointed in Lily Rose being brought into the spotlight, Johnny and Vanessa always seemed to protect them pretty good.

    • Gigi says:

      Depp = Idiot

      YEP!!!

    • jinni says:

On his Inside the Actor’s Studio, I remember him saying that his name meant idiot in German, but apparently Depp is a Americanized version of the French name Dieppe. His family descends from French Huguenots.

As for Lily, I think most kids grow up fascinated by what there parents do. Plus considering how much JD and VP have done to keep their kids out of the spotlight I’m pretty sure this is something that Lily really wanted to do and not a case of famous parents whoring their kid out as a part of their brand. I just hope she’s not one of those famous kids that pretends that her last name and parents aren’t the main reason why she had access to all of the opportunities she has right now. I also hope she has some actually talent and charisma to at least make the attention she gets understandable.

    • Mmmhmm says:

They were very protective of her when she was a child, she is 16 yo now and if she wants to be a model/actress they can’t say no to her.

      • A.Key says:

Yes they can, you think Lily would have become the face of Chanel if it had not been for her mother??

    • Norman Bates' Mother says:

I came here to say that – it’s an awesome last name if you like names that are also insults. My cousins are German and one of them used the word depp as a go-to-insult aimed at me when we were children. I’d say it’s more like a dumbass or moron than idiot though. Less formal in context. Du bist und bleibst ein Depp!

      • Claudia says:

^^Yes, that’s correct. Moron or dumbass fits better – “Depp” is less harsh than idiot, it can almost be a little affectionate. “So ein Depp! “

  14. smcollins says:

Lily-Rose is a very pretty girl, but looking at that photo all I can see is Charlie & the Chocolate Factory (the TV Room scene where they’re wearing the special glasses). Lol

    As far as Amber….yawn.

  15. Erykah B. says:

The sunglasses needs to be on my face asap!

  16. A.Key says:

Isn’t Lily Rose a bit too young for this? Or am I just old-fashioned?
I remember how Depp used to obsessively protect his kids and their privacy 10 years ago. And now his daughter is a fashion model for one of the biggest designers in the world…
Nepotism is alive and well I see.
I dunno, I just thought his kids would go down a different path, and be smarter than this.

    • jinni says:

Why blame JD for her connection to Chanel when Cunty Karl is VP’s friend? Also, considering that VP was in the business since she was a little girl and got international fame for her hit Joe Le Taxi at 14 ( I think she was 14 anyway), Lily is actually starting out in the business way later than her mother.

Also, I don’t see how taking all of these amazing opportunities that most people dream about is considered a dumb move? Besides she’s young, she may very well decide to do something else with her life after a while/ when she matures.

    • Jegede says:

      @A Keys
I am surprised at this turn too.

JD was then fiercely protective of keeping them out of the public eye, aided by French laws.

I would never have guessed it would turn out like this.

      • Mary-Alice says:

Teens are people of their own mind, first, and second it’s far more concerning if parents are not supportive of their children’s dreams and goals. They may not share the fascination of the child but it doesn’t mean they should put barriers as it won’t stop anyone but will create unnecessary tension amd resentment.

      • Jegede says:

But that does not change my original point.

And if people can call out Kris Jenner and Cindy Crawford for the same, what makes Depp and Vanessa special snowflakes?

      • Bridget says:

Umm, “far more concerning if a parent is not supportive supportive of their teen’s dreams and goals” – my job as a parent is to help guide my children so they become functioning, healthy adults, and stepping in when I know that something they want to do or be is inappropriate. Their dreams and goals are nice, but they’re children. She’s 16. It’s far more concerning when a parent is supportive of a teen’s dreams and goals over things like practicality and safety. Obviously Lily Rose got this job through her connection to Karl, but it’ll be interesting to see what’s next.

      • mmm says:

Johnny was obsessive protecting them. But they have been with their mother all this year since Johnny’s has been working in Australia since february. And Lily’s mother supports her entrance to the fashion world as she was the one who brought her to her first fashion show in NYC this year and after to the Paris Chanel the past week and now she’s the new face of Chanel.
Johnny ain’t be anywhere near Chanel in years, that’s Vanessa’s territory

      • Mary-Alice says:

        @Bridget

Lily-Rose is pretty safe modeling for a brand led by a family friend, so your argument is irrelevant. No one is sending her to pose on the street at night. Besides, your parenting style is not necessarily applicable to all teens, it wouldn’t have worked well with me at 16 when I was already years deep in individual sport career and neither my own child nor his friends would like such an approach. In my circle they are mostly in sports but their choices still involve training far from home, living alone abroad, etc. A young person at 16 is completely capable of knowing what they want and to pursue it vigorously. I prefer to support than to face rebellion which is not safe at all.

    • Mmmhmm says:

Well, she is not a child now for him to obsessively protect her. And since when is being the face of Chanel not a good thing?

If she spends most of her time with her mother then maybe you should place your disappointment on her.

      • A.Key says:

By smarter I meant I thought she’d put education first, or at least do something more creative than just pose for pictures with a vapid look on her face. Of course it’s a financially lucrative move, I don’t deny that. But do they really need the money???

And you’re right, I do blame the mother, I know the Chanel connection comes through her. But hey, if the fashion industry is what Vanessa wants for her kid (come on, she just turned 16, she’s still a child), then I really misjudged her.

      • Mmmhmm says:

@A.Key Well, she’s still in school. I’m sure she’s put education first and modelling/acting is just for fun.

  17. Lara says:

I watched Magic Mike at the weekend and felt uncomfortable when ‘Mike’ was creeping on her character because she looks soo young. When I see her next to Depp… Shudders

  18. Elizabeth says:

I think Amber is a lot smarter than we give her credit for. She got Johnny to leave his girlfriend and marry him. And she’s getting tons of roles because of her new fame even though she’s a terrible actress. She will stay married to him as long as it’s beneficial to her career. Now he might try to leave her at some point – I think he’s very jealous of her close lesbian pals.

  19. Margareth says:

I understand why Depp fell in love with Amber. She is stunning, a mixture of Sharon Stone and Veronica Lake with perfect skin, mesmerizing blue-green eyes and naturally voluptuous body. Probably no man alive would have resisted her (I’m telling this as a woman).

    • Jenna says:

Voluptuous!!???lol she has zero curve. amber play the beauty card but she has nothing more to offer… JD will be bored someday (if he is not already!!!)

    • Neah23 says:

      O please😂

    • Naddie says:

I don’t. Every picture of her it seems she’s constipated. Maybe her eye color is mesmerizing, but her look is from a bored, obnoxious person.

      • Joyce says:

Lollll agree!!!!! Beautiful color eyes but nothing more… Reflection of her stupidity and no charisma threw her eyes… Her soul!! Which is arrogant-vapid-stupid!!!

    • Happy21 says:

You must be Amber Heard, er sorry, Amber Depp 😉

      • Margareth says:

Obviously, I’m not. I just recognize exquisite physical beauty when I see it, like the vast majority of people. Whatever her character and personality might be, Heard is physically stunning, so there is no surprise for me that Depp fell hard for her.

    • Naddie says:

I understand you completely, Margareth, I also agree about her looks. The thing is that her personality overshades her great beauty. She oozes stupidness and bore. And then she talks..

    • A.Key says:

Really? I disagree, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I’d say no man alive would resist Angelina Jolie or Salma Hayek, but that’s just me.

    • NotFromHere says:

She might be your type but everyone has their own idea of beauty. What you might think is beautiful, could look unattractive to someone else so I think it’s an unfair generalisation to say that no man would be able to resist her.

    • Sunsetsnow says:

Ha! Ha! I’ll back you while the stones are thrown. She is gorgeous…until she opens her mouth and speaks.

    • Gigi says:

Margareth, do they pay well? LOL!

    • Miffy says:

Margareth, unfortunately you don’t fall in love with someone just because of aesthetics. It can be a starting point and it certainly breeds a lot of infatuation but long term, deep rooted love? No. That’s not something ‘exquisite physical beauty’ can provide.

I’ll agree she’s a good looking woman, vapid with a lights-are-on-but-nobody-is-home kinda thing but yes, beautiful. Your assessment that that’s what made her husband fall in love with her is a bit sad. I hope you don’t believe that that’s what makes a person love someone.

  20. InvaderTak says:

    She looks like a ditz.

  21. Jenna says:

amber is pretty period. no charima, no talent and sound stupid in interview!!!! a lot of better and more beautiful actress(beauty in and out!!) in Hollywerd!!!!! (Jennifer Law, Emm stone, margot Robbie,E.Blunt,etc.) in the no talent- beautiful category, i prefer Jessica Biel…at last she has charisma! And for Lili Rose SHE will become the star Amber had dream about… Because she is super pretty AND has charisma and for the talen will see… She has a movie with Nathalie Portman… Thats just the beginning!! im sure she has talent!!!! For Amber, not being able to perform in a litt’e stupid role in MMikeXXL….lol!!!!!!!

  22. Madpoe says:

Does have a ring to it in court divorce proceeding tho’, right: Depp vs Depp

  23. Mia4S says:

Bravo Austraila! She’s being charged with illegally bringing in the dogs (and so should Johnny). They weren’t ignorant, documents were forged! That’s planning and they knew! Absolute trashy and entitled behaviour. They should be fined the maximum (no they won’t get jail).

    • jinni says:

Considering that the dogs are Amber’s and Johnny was trying to rush back to Australia since everyone was saying he’d gone missing, how do you know that he in on smuggling the dogs? He probably thought she would have taken care of it since they were her dogs, while he tried to get back to work and quell the rumors in set. Besides, wouldn’t the Australian government have charged both of them if he was a part of the smuggling? Why charge them separate?

    • Mmmhmm says:

The fact that she was the one served with an Australian summons to appear in court proves that it was HER mistake. They are her dogs. It’s not Johnny’s fault. It’s HER behaviour. Just because he’s the bigger name it doesn’t mean he has to take the blame for something he didn’t do.

      • mmm says:

everybody knows only one of the dogs is her dog, Pistol, She even talked with the press after the incident and only mentioned Pistol as her dog and the only who travels with her everywhere, etc
The people who follows them or Johnny’s daughter, knows the other dogs is a “Depp”

I don’t know why she’s carrying all the fault herself. Maybe because Johnny had enough troubles in Australia by himself after his injury, and she was trying to take him out of troubles, or maybe they are charging her only because she pissed off the authorities, but one of the dogs is Johnny and it’s also his airplane

  24. Joyce says:

and the fact that she has produce false document prove that she knew it was illegal…… Stupid girl!! She thinks shes above the law because JD choose her!!! well JD keep her, but Hollywood doesn’t need another no-talent actress-wannabe!!!

    • jinni says:

Am I reading the story on US Weekly correctly, did she try and bring the dogs in a second time this time with false documents? Or are these charges stemming from the incident in May?

      • mmm says:

No. Are from the incident in May

And she lied on the declaration when they arrived to the country by declaring they didn’t have animals when they had two dogs. That’s why they are accussing her of generating false documentation

      • jinni says:

@mmm: Thanks for clearing that up. I guess because she’s the one that provided the false documents that maybe the reason why she’s getting charged even though one of the dogs was his daughter’s and it was his plane. IDK.

  25. Happy21 says:

“Amber Heard took Johnny’s name to prove she’s in it for the long haul”.

No, she took it because it’s Depp and Depp makes you ‘someone’ and now everyone knows who your husband is. Because we’re all so stupid that we don’t think you use your marriage as a career move.

  26. korra says:

Yeah. Honey that’s why you did it. For the long haul….for your career.

  27. lisa2 says:

I was watching an Australian TV show and they showed the clip of Amber’s interview saying that THEY would probably avoid Australia as much as possible in the future and that the “government official” wanted 15 minutes of fame.

the commentators were not happy. I think it was one of their morning shows. I would imagine that there are people that live in Australia that have had charges brought against them for breaking these well established rules. She should have been more contrite and just said she was so sorry and it was a dumb stupid mistake. But she made it sound like she had done nothing more than throw a piece of paper on the ground. Johnny is trying to smooth things over and Amber just made it worse.

  28. I Choose Me says:

I’m in love with those shades on Lily Depp. Wish I could afford a pair. They probably cost a mint.

  29. NotFromHere says:

Did Amber apply her lipstick in the dark?

  30. Tara says:

Amber desperately wanted to up her career. I just hate that she now takes on this attitude that she’s above wanting attention and fame now that she automatically gets it being with Johnny Depp. Before she used to pose for paparazzi.

  31. sauvage says:

    In German, “Depp” means “idiot”…

  32. A says:

I agree with Lainey. She just doesn’t have “it”.
Winona Ryder had It, Kate Moss had It and they both sort of still do…heck, even Vanessa Paradis had It.
    That je ne sais quoi.
Amber lacks that, she is so bland and boring looking.

Anyway, I am sick of nepotism in movies because in movies you watch and want to disappear into the characters and story but how can you do that when you see a celebrity spawn with no life behind their eyes.
And 16 year olds modeling chanel? Talk about infantilizing of women and having girl-children represent women brands. And it’s adult women who will suffer from it since more men will want younger and younger girls and mature women will be dumped even sooner. Models used to look like women, now it’s teenagers everywhere with zero curves to their bodies. Oh well, I guess women never will learn and look even more ridiculous wearing shades and clothes that are meant for little girls…………………………………and i’ll stop here.

  33. Puffy B. says:

LOL, a name change doesn’t mean you’ll make it for the long haul. It just means you’ll have to change your name back when the divorce happens.

  34. serena says:

That was Lily Rose? She really just looks like her mother!
By the way I’m not surprised at all by her surname change, she’d only get benefits from it. I think she’s still fangirling about being ‘Mrs Depp’, while not looking at the bigger problems.
