Iggy Azalea admits she got a nose job: ‘plastic surgery is an emotional journey’

Iggy Azalea

Iggy Azalea covers the September issue of Seventeen magazine, which is surprising. I know it’s just Seventeen, but the “back to school” fashion issue usually features someone who is riding high on their career (and Iggy is not). She’s also not promoting anything in particular after cancelling her arena tour. So the interview excerpts are about learning to live with one’s flaws, but Iggy finally admits what everyone suspected. Her very different look at the May Billboard awards was due to plastic surgery. Iggy admits to getting a nose job. No word on the obvious chin implant yet, but she discusses her “emotional journey” and sounds like she’s having a difficult time with scrutiny:

On whether she’s had a nose job: “I’m not denying it. Denying it is lame. I don’t think you should be ashamed if you made a change to yourself, which is why I’ve spoken about the changes I’ve made, like with my breasts.”

On plastic surgery: “Your perception of yourself can change a lot over time, so I think it’s important to wait and make sure it’s the right choice. Plastic surgery is an emotional journey. It’s no easy feat to live with your flaws and accept yourself—and it’s no easy feat to change yourself. Either way you look at it, it’s a tough journey. There are things that I didn’t like about myself that I changed through surgery. There are other things I dislike but I’ve learned to accept. It’s important to remember you can’t change everything. You can never be perfect.”

On whether her looks are under more scrutiny now: “It’s hard to be a woman in 2015 with social media. There’s so much more emphasis on taking pictures of ourselves and the ‘likes’ or people commenting on them. There’s a lot more pressure to look beautiful. Some days I just want to look like sh*t and feel okay with that.”

[From Seventeen]

I go back and forth on Iggy. She received a lot of rough treatment for her looks, and no matter what she says, hearing mean comments like that (and a lot of them) must affect her self image. That’s probably why she’s gone in for such drastic surgery, which sucks. She was already pretty, but people gave her a hard time for not looking like a Barbie doll, which is ridiculous.

However, Iggy is also a mean girl herself, and she’s said many offensive things to many people. That’s not an excuse for how people talk about her looks. I just wish people would have focused on her attitude and actions instead of resorting to superficial insults.

Ok, so she’s admitted to the boobs and now the schnozz.

Countdown to when she cops to the fake booty!

    Or…not. Who cares. She’s at 14:59 anyway.

    • Kitten says:

But plastic surgery is such a difficult and emotional journey! Life is so damn hard when you can buy a new face and body!
      *sobs*

      • Shambles says:

Thanks for taking that one– I couldn’t even find the words because I was too caught up in an endless sequence of *facepalm*

      • AcidRock says:

*sob sob sob* Too bad no one could sell me a new personality! *sob sob sob*

    • Mimz says:

I don’t think the booty is fake hey, I mean, even in hear earlier videos and earlier photos she had it. Her body type shows that, in my opinion. I could be wrong though. And didn’t we see a post with cellulitis on it? I don’t think the fake ones have it (see Nicki minaj, Khloe, Kim, etc).
In any case it’s sad that she is succumbing to the pressure of being “perfect”. I hope she doesn’t change too much for the sake of being liked.

      • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

The booty is fake, there’s before and after shots of her from different angles that show she was once flat as a pancake. Pretty much all her early music videos are from the time she started getting plastic surgery but there’s pictures of her when she was just starting he two career that show it.

      • laura.e says:

Nicky and Kim certainly have cellulite too – don’t forget also that the Kardashians have deals with the trashy magazines so it’s usually airbrushed to perfection before it hits the shelves.

  3. Jewbitch says:

    She was prettier before

    • TrixC says:

I agree. I know it’s the done thing to say that whenever anyone gets plastic surgery, but in her case she actually had an interesting look and now looks totally generic.

    • Sugar says:

I think she was prettier before, too. Surgery erased all the character from her face and she looks so bland now, so generic. She could almost be a robot or a synth.

    • kitty28 says:

      YES!

  4. Shambles says:

Nope, nope nope nope. So much NOPE. Putting Iggy– who is looking like all kinds of uncanny-valley plastic– on the cover of SEVENTEEN magazine, a magazine I read in middle school, to talk about her plastic surgery?!? To talk about the fact that her answer to her self esteem issues was buying an entirely new face? Are you f*cking kidding me? If I was a parent to a teenage daughter, I would cancel my subscription. What a message to send. Absolutely ridiculous.

    • Kitten says:

Yep. This is totally worth pointing out.
      Thanks, Shamblowski.

    • mia girl says:

      Totally agree.

    • Marie-France says:

Totally agree. The Iggies and the Kylies need to go.

    • EricaV says:

YES Shambles I too thought – Really SEVENTEEN – with all that’s Kylie’s doing to her face/body influencing young girls do you now also have to plaster an interview about plastic surgery?!?!?!

True story – My Mom cancelled my YM subscription after seeing these Jenny McCarthy Candies ads where she was on the toilet. Wrote them a letter too., I wonder if there are parents out there who still check their teens’ mags. Which also makes me wonder if there are teens out there who still read mags…

      • Snazzy says:

I’m not so sure. The other day I was in Monoprix, a big supermarket chain in France, and I saw a book entitled “How to be thin all year round” in the back to school section. I was and am horrified

  5. aims says:

I could give a rat’s behind about her looks. It’s her overall crappy attitude that’s a killer. Her “music” makes me cringe and her “rapping ” makes my ears bleed.

  6. Bridget says:

The tide really turned on her fast. Oh well. Perhaps for her next career move she could try being nice.

  7. The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Nose-job? Girl you got professionally body-snatched by a surgeon.

The nose job was just the latest in a long-line of choices intended to make sure your family doesn’t recognize you.

Everytime I feel bad for Iggy I remember she’s an unprofessional bitch. Blaming Pretty Girls flopping on Britney, being mad at Steve Madden for her shoe line, all the many many racist comments.

Her career is over because she’s incappable of being an adult, apologizing and doing better. Ironic since her other name sake’s career is also in the toilet.

  8. Yoohoo says:

I think she looked prettier before. I’m not going to shade her for getting plastic surgery. I want a mommy make over BAD but my kids college funds come first. As soon as those things are mostly funded I’m getting a tummy tuck and a new set of girls.

  9. Yoohoo says:

I wish she’d stop with the bleached blonde hair. It’s not a good look for her.

  10. QQ says:

What about the Chin situation and the butt, copping that or nah?

    • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

      Nah girl. NAH.

Let Ms. Playdoh wax poetic about loving ones self and making smart choices.

  11. AlmondJoy says:

It’s a bad message to send to young girls, most of whom are already having trouble with the way they look and accepting their natural beauty. Between being bombarded with pics of Kylie Jenner and reading crap like this, kids will be asking to get knifed up by time they reach their 13th birthday. Sad.

    • The Eternal Side-Eye says:

Seventeen also had Kylie Jenner on the cover recently so clearly they’re flailing as a company with a supposed message.

    • AcidRock says:

Very good point. This is really disturbing.

    • Otaku Fairy says:

I don’t like Iggy Azalea at all and disagree with most things she says, but I don’t have a problem with anything she’s saying here. I mean sure, it’s not the thing we’ve grown more used to seeing from celebrities: Celebrity Utters Cliché Idealist Message to Teens about Proving you ‘Love Yourself’ By never ever ever getting cosmetic surgery or otherwise tweaking any natural aspect of physical appearance, only to get work done later on in her career and forever lie about it all and preach ‘Natural Beauty.’ I think her message is a balanced, honest one. She’s not telling the audience that they should go out and get work done, but she’s also not pretending that she hasn’t had anything done herself or that we all naturally don’t have anything about our physical appearances that we wouldn’t want to change even a little bit. She brings up how women are sort of damned if they do, damned if they don’t when it comes to beauty, and how are perception about our physical appearance shifts throughout our lifetime- which is true to what a lot of women and girls experience, but she doesn’t encourage her listeners to automatically jump right to plastic surgery either. She leaves the end choice up to the individual. I was actually surprised to read something reasonable from Iggy Azalea.

  12. GreenieWeenie says:

if she has light body hair, that kind of sucks because if you go out without makeup you just look like a ghost. No eyebrows, no eyelashes. Some people can pull it off (Gwyneth Paltrow seems to) but I look pretty terrible. Iggy was out without makeup when Snoop made fun of her face.

  13. Juliet says:

Her quote about social media is right on. But…just cannot muster any sympathy for her.

  14. Ninks says:

If I’d seen that picture without context, I don’t think I would have guessed it was her. I don’t think she would have featured in my first ten guesses. I think she pretty much has to admit to having surgery because it would be ridiculous to deny it.

It’s kind of refreshing to hear a celebrity admit to it though, but at the same time it seems like a terrible message for Seventeen to send to their readership.

  15. Cait says:

Adulthood is an emotional journey. Plastic surgery is, in most circumstances, a choice.

    Spare me, Iggy.

  16. claire says:

Ugh. Shut up and go away, Iggy.

  17. Jen says:

I remember her saying Mexicans had that box body. And how much have you paid for yours, Iggy? Glass houses.

  18. Amanda G says:

No matter how much work she gets done, I will always think she looks very masculine. When Fancy came out, I was certain she was transgender. I don’t think she’s pretty, but that could also be because I think her personality is ugly – which makes her appearance ugly to me too.

Anyway, I think she looked better before the nose job and chin implant. I think an imperfect nose can add character and make a person stand out from the cookie cutter beauties. I.E. Selena Gomez or Britney.
