Vanity Fair’s Best Dressed 2015: Bendy, Fassy, Swifty & a unicorn named Amal

wenn22451659

Vanity Fair has released their annual International Best Dressed List for 2015. You can see VF’s package here. Most of the names are not surprises at all – like, of course VF believes Emma Stone can do wrong. Of course the current reigning Best Actor Oscar winner made the list (Eddie Redmayne). I do find some inclusions funny/interesting though, especially since Vanity Fair separates their list into stand-alone fashionable men, women and couples. Some of the list:

Best Dressed Women/Best Dressed Hollywood: Samantha Cameron, Alicia Vikander, Taylor Swift, Amal Alamuddin, Rihanna, Charlotte Casiraghi, Emma Stone, Sienna Miller, Rihanna, Diane Kruger, Charlize Theron, Countess of Wessex, Emma Watson, Queen Letizia of Spain, Misty Copeland, Fan Bingbing

Best Dressed Men: Bill Nighy, Prince Harry, Michael Fassbender, Eddie Redmayne, Prince Carl Phillip of Sweden

Best Dressed Couples: Benedict Cumberbatch and Sophie Hunter; Matt Bomer and Simon Halls; Pierre Casiraghi and Beatrice Borromeo

[From Vanity Fair]

FKA Twigs also got on the list as an “Original” and Victoria Beckham was included in the best-dressed fashion professionals part of the list.

My amusement? VF is usually stuck far up George Clooney’s butt, but George isn’t anywhere on this list. Instead, it’s all about Amal. They didn’t even get “best-dressed couple”!!! Personally, I think George has better style than Amal. George understands how to be occasion-appropriate and he knows what looks good on his body. Amal doesn’t understand either of those things.

As for the men they did include… Michael Fassbender is many things (hot, sexy, scruffy, whiney), but he is NOT fashionable. He’s really not great at wearing a suit or a tux. But Eddie Redmayne is perfect at everything and he has so much inherent style. Benedict… well, he can wear a suit and a tux. But that boy can’t wear casual clothes to save his life. And Sophie keeps messing with the Cumbercurls! BOO!

  1. PHD Gossip says:

I think Amal deserves to be on the list.

    • Div says:

Same here. Sometimes it’s a little matchy-matchy Jackie O and costume-y, but she looks fabulous 99% of the time and pulls it off.

      • ScurrilousScallywag says:

Yep. She gets major points for wearing what she wants, how she wants to. And for being a modern, professional woman who’s unafraid to be into trends. She seems to choose her clothes for what makes her feel good, rather than what the peanut gallery might think.

    • Jessica says:

So do I. I get that her choices aren’t to everyone taste, but she’s interesting (and her style is having an impact on mainstream fashion). That’s what I like to see on Best Dressed lists, people who take chances, who sometimes make mistakes, who aren’t afraid of being called the Worst Dressed.

It’s terribly dull when a list is just made up of women who wear the same boring, safe gowns all the time.

      • Chinoiserie says:

Amal’s clothes are not my taste but she has a certain look that works for her and is you can tell that some clothes are something that Amal could wear so I think she is succeeding.

    • GlimmerBunny says:

I think so too, she’s very fashionable IMO.

      • Original T.C. says:

Add me to the Amal deserves to be on the list fan club. She always looks excellent in everything she wears. Her hair is to die for. I agree also with all the European royalty they picked.

Happy that they appropriately left Waity and her boring skinny jeans/striped shirts/Marilyn moments-flyaway panty flashing self. Sorry Kate this is not People mag or the British press that has to kiss up to you for access.

      • ScurrilousScallywag says:

I think the Duchess of Cambridge couldn’t care less about being on a Best Dressed List.

      • Pinky Rose says:

Kate is already in the International Best Dressed List Hall of Fame so she is not include in the list this year. She is a perennial.

    • Dubois says:

I agree. I love her unique style. I love how it can be kooky sometimes .

    • Jib says:

I think Amal doesn’t understand high fashion and often dresses WAY too young for her age! If she hadn’t married Clooney, no one would look at her style twice. Marrying Clooney is the only reason she has anyattentio.

And Rihanna? Please. She’s the tackiest of the tacky. Classless.

  2. Karen says:

Amal’s style isn’t my thing. She always looks like a bad posture, extremely skinny woman with big boobs stuffed in couture. Basically, it wears her. Although her hair could make her top most lists. It’s pretty unicorn amazing.

    • Bichon says:

Totally agree. Her “style” isn’t at all stylish, but her hair is fantastic.

    • Shelley says:

What’s wrong with being skinny and having big boobs?

      • Lara K says:

Nothing, but you have to know how to dress. Same for any body type.
She always looks awkward to me.

    • siri says:

She lacks personality, that’s why everything is just hanging on her as if the price tag is still on. Even her boobs look enhanced, perhaps with silicone cup inlays. There’s nothing natural about her.

    • Esmom says:

I think “it wears her” is spot on. She doesn’t have a definitive style that she truly owns, like say Carolyn Bessette Kennedy did.

  3. Shelley says:

Eyeroll at this ENTIRE list. Best dressed needs to be redefined.

  4. Annabelle says:

This is a simple PR list

    • PunkyMomma says:

      Yes it is just PR.

    • dippit says:

+1 This! These Lists all have subtitled “best publicist who promised future access & interviews” or “names most likely to excite Tumblr” or “controversial click bait as the Editor dines out” written in invisible ink.

Until they do “Guaranteed to be Best Overdressed for Every Occasion in Free Rail Designer Wear”, I’ll take Amal’s Emperor’s New Clothes act with a heavy pinch of sideeye.

  5. Div says:

Emma Stone???? I love her but stylish (well, more like it is her stylist that isn’t stylish) she is not. Most of her outfits are downright snooze-worthy; not even the classic but boring look. Her style is just nice but blandly forgettable most of the time. I’d put Marion Cotillard on the list, even if she sometimes strikes out, before Emma. The list needs more Lenny Kravtiz and Tilda Swinton, and less Emma Stone.

  6. Lilacflowers says:

Bill Nighy! I’m just here for Bill Nighy!

  7. Kiki says:

Is it just me or vf and the rest of these glorified magazines are really kissing these ridiculous celebrities ass. You can say all you want but Michael Fassbender is sexy but he can’t really dress and his neither is his “Twinkle Toes” girlfriend Alicia Vikander.

    • Annabelle says:

Vikander (thinking man’s Blake Lively how called her NYT) hasn’t great style. All her dresses at Cannes and at premieres were awful

      • Jecko says:

Agree re Vikander – I haven’t been impressed by her style. Stone, on the other hand, I can get behind…

    • Eugenie says:

Michael/ Alicia and Benedict/Sophia made the best dressed list? I smell Harvey Weinstein’s little pork pied fingers all over this.

      • sal says:

Weinstein?LOL Vikander and Redmayne are the two lead actors of The Danish Girl… next oscar bait. Harvey has dumped Macbeth big time… Did he end his duties for Hunter/Cumberbatch a long time ago? LOL

    • Ctkat1 says:

Yes!! I think Vikander is gorgeous (hate her personality in interviews, but she’s gorgeous), but her fashion sense isn’t great. Check her out on Tom & Lorenzo, etc. This is a total pr puff piece- we’ve been told for a year that she’s “the next big thing” and so now she’s getting on best dressed lists. We’ll see if her year is quite as big as she’s expecting… Cara Delevigne was supposed to have a big year as well, and “Paper Towns” died a quick death at the box office.

  8. Talie says:

They never think outside the box with this list.

  9. Jayna says:

I actually think she deserved to be on the list. I don’t like everything she wears, but she has worn some pretty amazing outfits over the past year and/or interesting ensembles.

  10. Josephine says:

Fan made the list, and no reality losers in site, so that makes me happy enough.

  11. Astrid says:

    Amal’s street/casual style is atrocious

  12. Shambles says:

I move to disqualify TayTay on the grounds of hair trauma

  13. Freddy Spaghetti says:

Rhianna has had some good red carpet looks but the rest of the time she usually looks like she’s forgotten a shirt or pants.

    • BearcatLawyer says:

But at least Rihanna’s style is unique and memorable. She isn’t afraid to take risks and seems to pay attention to her accessories and shoes, things which can make or break an outfit. So many people on this list are dreadfully boring in their choices and let their clothes wear them instead of the other way around.

      • PrettyBlueFox says:

Also, as much thought and planning goes into “forgetting” those shirts and pants as goes into most people on these lists’ Oscar get ups. Whether people like it or hate it is a matter of taste, but everything she wears is curating a very careful LOOK. I agree with Bearcat – most people on these lists just put on the clothes their stylists hand them and call it a day. Rihanna always looks like herself and like the clothes are made just for her.

    • Kiki says:

I agree with you 100% . I think Rihanna can dress if she makes the effort to wear some pants/skirts and underneath some panties at some point. She can be a style icon like JLO.

    • MrsBPitt says:

That’s because she usually HAS forgotten a shirt or pants!!!!!! lol

    • Shambles says:

But she gives no f*cks if we think she looks like she’s forgotten a shirt or pants, and that’s why it works for her. She could walk around in nothing but Christmas wrapping paper and it would work for her. It’s her mojo that makes it.

      • Kiki says:

The reason for her don’t care attitude is to cause attention towards herself and she seem to love it. Hey, if it works for her then who am I to judge.

      • I Choose Me says:

Yes. The clothes never look like they’re wearing her. Style mojo, couldn’t have said it better myself.

  14. renee28 says:

If a list names Fassbender as best dressed it’s obvious it’s BS.

  15. Beatrice says:

George has been papped too often in dad jeans and a Casamigos t-shirt to make the best dressed list. He and Amal usually look like they are going to very different places when photographed together. He can rock a tux though.

    • Jayna says:

He’s great in a tux, one of the best, but his casual style has been awful this past year. He even said when they were going out to dinner, Amal said one time, are you wearing that again? He said, if they are going out casually, his thought is why not take an opportunity to promote his tequila line with his T-shirt. LOL At least, he’s honest about shamelessly promoting it.

      • dippit says:

Only “honest” after called out on it so many times on Comments boards like this. Otherwise, probably just figured on getting away with just “shameless”.

  16. Lainey says:

The duchess of Cambridge isn’t on it. I’m shocked. You know their pr is losing it when she’s no longer a fashion icon. Love that Sophie’s on it!

    • Tough Cookie says:

Didn’t Waity make it onto the Best Dressed “Hall of Fame” last year? Does that mean she is no longer considered for the annual Hall of Fame?

      • Pinky Rose says:

No she is on the Hall of fame (as George Clooney is) with means she will always be there as a best dressed.

  17. jen2 says:

I am probably one of the few that does not think that George wears a tux perfectly. If you look at him, they are usually not tailored well. The pants are always too long and too baggy and he very rarely if ever wears patent leather shoes. He looks like he is wearing his father’s clothes in that photo up top and the shoes are all wrong. The outfit makes him look like he is playing dress-up. Colin Firth wore tails to that event and he was impeccable, but he did not get photographed and spread across the internet and gushed over. I like Mr. Clooney, but I don’t get the fuss over his clothing choices. Mr. Firth always looks perfect, but is no where to be seen on this list, and neither is his wife who looked great as well.

The list is always for PR of the moment BUT Fan BingBing does belong.

  18. jeanne says:

i’m so excited the countess of wessex made the list ESPECIALLY over Kate Middleton. Good for Sophie. She shows the cambridges that you can be fashionable and work hard – boat shoes, navy blazers and wedges don’t have to be worn at every event to show how serious you are.

    • ScurrilousScallywag says:

You know, oddly enough I don’t like the Countess of Wessex’s style that much. Or more precisely, I don’t like the way she styles/wears the clothes; the clothes themselves are often very nice.

She needs some help with proportions and her choices are occasionally unsuitable for the event. But she’s a great rep for the family. She looks so happy to be working.

  19. ScurrilousScallywag says:

Am I the only one who thinks Eddie Redmayne is The Worst? The guy seriously needs to do the twelve steps at Over-actors Anonymous.

Anyway, glad to see FKA Twigs is getting some respect for her style. Nothing I would ever wear but she’s an original and so compelling. And Fan Bingbing is awesome. She can get it.

    • Original T.C. says:

LOL. I hate the way he styles his hair and he always comes across as too twee or boy band to me even in his velvet tux. I would pick him on the list of dressing younger than his age which is what women are usually called out for.

      • ScurrilousScallywag says:

Yes! Good call. He is one of those people I have an irrational face-hatred for.

Like I just can’t with his face. I have a similar problem with Andrew Garfield. Do not get the love for him. Re-watched Never Let Me Go on HBO and he is insufferable.

  20. Maum says:

Did anyone see the pics of Amal papped riding around Italy with Clooney? She’s wearing pineapple print trousers and gold platform wedges…. Just no.

Thing with her is that she’s a terrible accessoriser. Even if she wears nice stuff it’s alwas ruined by bad shoes, too much jewellery etc. Not stylish.

    • Mrs. Darcy says:

She does have something of Golden Girls Blanche about her doesn’t she?!

      • SideEye Sally says:

True, but I also get a little of “Mrs. Howell” from Gilligan’s Island. If you are too young to remember or have seen this tv show, Google it to understand this character (who was always overdressed).

      • noway says:

OMG a cross between Mrs. Howell and Blanche so spot on almost makes you wonder if George is helping her do this on purpose because it is too funny.

  21. Eleonor says:

Taylor Swift needs to change her hair game asap.

  22. Meatball says:

I would rather see all of Fassbender’s clothes on my floor anyway 😍

  23. lizzie says:

first of all – no black men on the list is a huge misstep for a 100 reasons but specifically to leave off michael b jordan and common. MBJ kills it on the carpet every time and seems to enjoy fashion. so sharp! common hit all the award carpets in 2015 each time better than the last. he won an oscar too! those exclusions are so tone deaf.

    • Chinoiserie says:

Michael B. Jordan has not been even nominated for and Oscar let alone winning one. And I think this list is voted by the public and he is not that well known to the General Audiences yet since most of the public seens stars in blockbusters. If Fantastic Four is a hit (and it looks like it won’t be) he could become a real star. Maybe after Creed if that works out.

      • noway says:

It isn’t voted by the public but the fashion editors at Vanity Fair, and this is why a lot of people see this as who has the best PR people. Also, the comment referred to Common who did win an Oscar for Selma, but Michael B. Jordan also looks pretty good dressed up too, and I wouldn’t have a problem with him or Idris Elba for that matter on this list. Agree with Eddie Redmayne as I just don’t see the fashion choice or Michael Fassbender either but at least Fassy to me is just so sexy, Redmayne is really such a boy next door type don’t see it too much.

    • Josephine says:

There are 3 black men on the lists. There isn’t just one list.

  24. QQ says:

engh Except Fan Bing Bing and FKA Twigs Is a Parade of blandness on Blandness on Blandness

  25. Miss Jupitero says:

I think “best dressed” needs some redefinition. Anyone can put on the 5K suit sent via their publicist by Armani, but where is the real style? Yes Bendy, I am looking at you.

Amal amazes me– I would think those white gloves would have nixed her chances, but at least she has some originality.

    • WindowChair5 says:

That’s a good point Miss Jupitero. Everyone can look good when they are given stuff and someone else puts together the ensemble for them. To me, the real style is when they are on their own in terms of their fashion choices. And the person who above said this is nothing but a PR list? Absolutely correct. Why these magazines continue to kiss celebrity a$$ is beyond me.

      • Kiki says:

That is what I said earlier. They continue to kiss celebrities ass all the time. I don’t know what the mass thing, but I think this is tiredsome and lame. I am sick of these magazines glorifying celebrities on the superior mantle.

  26. j.eyre says:

Was being put on the list a special promotion when you renewed your subscription?

  27. no says:

I do agree with every word you said Kaiser about amal,no style atall .VF is becoming rediclous ,Amal can make best list of Las vegas with the gold shose ,and funny outfits and dresses.

  28. Wooley says:

Taylor wears a variation of a skirt and crop to, just in different colors and patterns. Nothing original!

  29. Corrie says:

I think the list is better than most years but there are mainstays on it. Gugu, Amal, FKA twigs and Emma were welcome stylish fashionistas. Even when Amal was going to work, she looked well put together. I don’t see undercutting her own sense of style. As for the men, I find this list weaker. Where’s Idris, Michael B Jordan (esp for effort bc he pushes the button) and Oscar Isaac.

  30. NUTBALLS says:

They should have put Eddie and Hannah on the couples list. Hannah always looked classy and Eddie had originality, even it I thought it was a bit crackballs.

  31. nicole says:

I personally dont like her style, but I am not surprised she is on the list, she is the current flavour of the month, and I am sure Georges pr made sure her name was on it. For me her style is all over the place, she seems like a fashion victim to me. She doesnt seem to have that natural flair for fashion like some women do. I know alot of people admire her hair, but I think its too big and 90s looking, and beleive me she wears plenty of extensions. As for Georges style, he hasnt got a clue, especially his casual attire is atrocious. He always looks good in a nice darksuit or pinstriped shirt with grey suit, but at the moment he is not looking great, did anyone see the pictures of him in Como with that stupid half goatee beard thing on his chin, its wild looking. Hes rapidly aging recently, and that dark tan he is sporting is not helping.

    • boredblond says:

This is what she’s been working tirelessly for..the constant over-dressing, calling the paps, straining to be seen. Pimping the clothes is her job, and this is her reward. And cloon has been wearing a grey or black tee and jeans for over 20 years..but it’s preferable to his new white-leisure-suit-in-Italy look that screams Miami beach grandpa. Time’s up on the conspicuous couple…

      • Sally says:

“Miami beach grandpa” is a great description of George’s white leisure suit. I think he has been wearing that awful suit for a few years, hopefully he will burn it soon. As for Amal on the list, expect a Vanity Fair issue on the happy couple in the near future. I am sure a price tag was attached to adding her to the list.

      • nicole says:

Boredblond and Sally agree totally, Miami grandpa look, all he needs now is a medallion to finish the look.

  32. Anon says:

How did Fassbender made it to this list anyway? We all know he is at his best when naked😏 Do not encourage him to put on clothes, please
