Oy. I didn’t think he was that funny the first time. I’d rather have Tina and Amy back.

    • Naya says:

I guess Tina and Amy said no. I adore Ricky, Extras and The Office are in my top 3 of best comedies of all time BUT he is wrong for this. It’s not his script, Tina and Amy had irreverent jokes too, its his delivery. It just doesn’t allow the butt of the joke to laugh along so he seems especially vicious. Its like watching a roast in which the Guest of Honor doesn’t want to be there. Painful and uncomfortable. And the camera close ups of the butt of the joke looking wounded doesn’t help one bit.

      • joan says:

Yes. Amy and Tina say outrageous things but they don’t look hostile. He does.

He can be so funny but he wasn’t at the GG.

      • InvaderTak says:

That’s what turns me off to him in general; he comes off as hostile.

  2. Tiffany says:

Between this and Chris Rock hosting the Oscars, Christmas 2016 will come early.

    • herewego says:

      Love Ricky Gervais

Don’t really think Chris Rock is funny though. Oscars will be like listening to someone scratching a chalkboard for me.

      • Tiffany says:

        *GASPS*

(In a whisper), You take that back. ;).

      • joan says:

You don’t think Chris Rock is FUNNY?

Have you actually SEEN Chris Rock’s shows? What do you base this on?

And who DO you like? The Redneck comedy tour?

      • herewego says:

I actually worked on a project with CR. I don’t find him funny on stage.

I just don’t get CR humor,, but I have never liked his stage show or tv appearances.

        Just don’t find CR funny.

    • Anne tommy says:

I don’t like either of them as presenters so will have to record the shows and fast forward…

  3. Tacos and TV says:

Hell yes!!!! He is sooooo funny. I may actually watch both shows this year!!

  4. antipodean says:

Two thumbs way up, Ricky the giant slayer, and burster of enormous egos. I hope he writes the show himself and doesn’t let the tired Hollywood hacks tell him what to say. You go Ricky. One has to admire how he has no f**ks to give for the stahs, and yet he is repeatedly asked to host, says something for someone who is not afraid to break the mold, and is not a toadying sycophant. He says what he likes, and still has an enviable career. In the words of the Immortal Bard; to thine own self be true.

    • mia girl says:

I wished for the return of Gervais on the “Chris Rock Hosting the Oscars” post last week and my wish came true!! I too love that he has zero f**cks to give about the celebs. So excited.

      • Suzanne says:

This man is hysterically funny….I loved him on the Globes the first two times…This is just a gigantic bonus! Thank you to whomever invited him back! Wonder if Clooney will show up and be the brunt of Ricky’s jokes this year. I’m guessing Clooney will be mentioned if he shows up with his camera hungry wife.

      • CL says:

I’ll actually watch this year – cackling the entire time!

    • hmph says:

As much as I like honesty, and found some of his jokes funny, I don’t get this mean-culture today.
I don’t get why funny needs to be mean spirited and believe you me I am not a celebrity worshipper and can’t stand most of them.
I just don’t get the fun in seeing someone uncomfortable because they are the butt of the joke and have to put on a “Happy face” lest they get turned into a meme/gif and bullied for the rest of the year.
When did funny = roasting someone? Speaking of roastings I find them vile. Bottom of the barrel comedy. All you have to do is think of the meanest thing you can say about someone and then…say it. Doesn’t take much talent to be a bully.
Oh well, not like I watch these shows anyway so I am not the target audience and make no mistake, they brought him back for ratings because it’s allllll about the money!

      • antipodean says:

Sometimes it’s just a joke, with some wit and intelligence thrown in. If one’s ego is too fragile to survive, then maybe these actors and hangers on chose the wrong line of work. The bigger they are, the more of a target they make of themselves.

      • SloaneY says:

I don’t find it mean. It’s just brutal honesty, which most in Hollywood aren’t used to because everyone kisses their a $ $. I think he’s hysterical. And he’s an equal opportunity truth teller. I’m so glad he’s back.

    • Melanie says:

Love him and so excited to see him back. I love Tina and Amy as well, only the hosts have kept me watching in recent years.

People seem to think he’s evil, but I disagree. Comedy is subjective, and he’s my type of humor. Plus I love how much he loves his cat!

  5. stinky says:

    LOVE HIM!
    meanwhile… Halle Berry, y’all

  6. OSTONE says:

I just came here about Halle and Olivier!

    • WTW says:

Likewise. What the hell? I was hoping this would work out for her. Is it that hard to stay married? I’ve been married for nearly five years and have faced infertility, toxic in-laws and job changes during that time. Yet, we’re still together. How hard is it to stay married?

      • Colette says:

42-45 percent of marriages end in divorce. The divorce rates are even higher for second marriages

      • Tulip says:

        @WTW
Whoa! That’s a lot on one plate! I hope all your bad luck is done with and you have your share of good luck soon.

As for celebrities and marriage…I have no idea.

  7. funcakes says:

    Halle berry divorcing!!!

  8. Jayna says:

    I love Ricky.

  9. antipodean says:

Did anyone read that Jezebel article? It is gobsmacikngly awful. I felt like I was watching a gruesome train wreck while reading it. What is most chilling is that there are people in this world who actually believe this tripe. Only an election away from The Handmaid’s Tale. Jaw dropping and sinister in the extreme.

  10. Iskra says:

yes, yes and million times YESSSSSSS for Ricky. He is the only reason I will watch GG.

  11. iheartgossip says:

He is hilarious and has zero ‘f’s to give. Yes!!!!!!!!! I’ll watch this year.

  12. Hannah says:

Yes! I loved him especially that first year he hosted, he was hilarious! Him and Chris Rock is a great double bill.

  13. Able says:

My favourite host. The Oscars are so stuffy. He needs to host them. Or maybe Chris Rock will do some good damage this coming year.

  14. Sarah01 says:

He is the only person I’d watch host an otherwise boring award show. I think he’s hilarious!

  15. Mrs. Ari Gold says:

    Bring back Tina and Amy!

I love Ricky but as so many people already said, he comes off hostile and mean at awards shows. It doesn’t work.

  16. miasys says:

Holy sh*tballs. That Jezebel article is the stuff of nightmares. Cannot wrap my head around it. Misogynistic propaganda just feeds my rage fire.

  17. Tara says:

Who is going to go hardest on the A-listers during their hosting duties – Chris Rock or Ricky Gervais?

  18. RH says:

Yes!!! So happy about this. I love him!

  19. Clairej says:

Yay!!!!!!!!! Best host ever!!!!!!! Although I was rather fond of Neil Patrick Harris at the Oscars.

  20. LAK says:

That christian website advice is scary. It’s amazing that in 2015, the information age, we still have these antiquated ideas.

Also, why does religion hate and fear women?

  21. Mylene - Montreal says:

    Can’t wait !! i love him 🙂

  22. bababoo says:

This is crazy. So many on this thread actually think this hack is a comedian … and actually funny. What is wrong with you HEADS? HE’S HORRIBLE.
