Idris Elba at the ‘Luther’ photocall in London: would you climb it like a tree?

wenn23152436

Of course we needed some Idris Elba photos today. We need Idris photos every day!! On Thursday, Idris did a London photocall for the special one-episode Luther thing. Idris returned to one of his most celebrated roles for a one-off sort-of-Christmas special, just like Sherlock has done this year too. The Luther special will air December 17th on BBC America for us Yanks. I don’t know when it premieres in the UK. Apparently, the episode involves a “cannibalistic serial killer.” Whatever, MOAR BLOKE.

There are lots of little pieces of news about Big Driis these days, so let’s get through some of them. Beasts of No Nation is already on Netflix, plus the film will have some limited theatrical release, which will qualify it for the awards season. Word is that Netflix will be spending some money on a potential Oscar campaign for Idris for Best Supporting Actor. Gold Derby – the analytics site following Oscar predictors/buzz – has Idris in the top three contenders for an Oscar nomination for Supporting.

And finally, Idris flew to Berlin to open for Madonna during the Rebel Heart Tour’s stop in the city. Idris DJ’d the party until Madge came on stage, which led to this lovely tweet. LEATHER PANTS. Madonna has been copying/homage-ing Taylor Swift lately, having “big cool friends” come out on stage with her or open for her. Idris is probably one of the best choices thus far.

    Like a tree…like a ladder…like a fence lol

  2. Betti says:

*swoon* Idris in leather trousers. I need to go lie down.

    • Snazzy says:

The ladies in my office had never heard of Idris before. I had to show them this article and introduce them to the majesty that is the Thunder. They will never be the same.

  3. anna2222222 says:

Sometimes I roll my eyes at the Cumberbatch and Fassbender obsessions but then I see this. Jesus Christ those leather pants. He is the sex.

  4. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

He really is so handsome and sexy. And I know he probably knows it, but he looks relaxed about it. That’s not quite the word. I’m just mentally comparing him to Tom Cruise, who turns on that huge, fake smile that screams “I think I’m irresistible!” So prefer the Elba coolness.

  5. PunkyMomma says:

Idris in leather pants heals all things. Sigh.

  6. Lilacflowers says:

Climbing it but bringing the ball gag.

His performance in Beasts of No Nation is one of the best I have seen this year and deserving of a nomination

    • Sixer says:

I have an entire cupboardful of ball gags especially for Idris. He is the world’s hottest man. Even hotter than The Bloke.

Also loved Beasts of No Nation. Somehow combines the horrific with beautiful work without diminishing either.

    • Naya says:

He was amazing in beasts of no nation. I tried to read the book a few years ago but couldnt get passed the pigeon English but my God, did Idris bring the language to life. Talent! And wtf is wrong with me that I still wanted to bang him as a scummy warlord.

    • NUTBALLS says:

Well, good mornin’ Dark Thunder! What a great way to start the day.

BONN was so good. I do hope Cary’s passion project and Idris gets some lovin’ during awards season. It was one of the best films I’ve seen all year.

Lilac, you watching Spotlight this weekend? I get a sneak peak at ISTL tonight and will probably see Spotlight as well.

      • TotallyBiased says:

Hey, how are you getting to see IStL????
        NO FAIR!!!!
        😉

      • NUTBALLS says:

TB, it came to Denver Film Festival last night, much to my surprise! Tom did a GREAT job… Lizzy did too. The singing parts were really good. I’d agree with the critics that the script was subpar, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

I also caught Spotlight and it deserves all the Best Picture chatter it’s getting. The script, direction, performances were excellent. Ruffalo deserves the Oscar for his role in it.

  7. Rice says:

    Like a redwood.

  8. karen says:

    Gahhhh, love him.
At the risk of sounding nit-picky, Beasts of No Nation (as is my understanding) was never meant to be a big screen release, so to say “it’s already on netflix” sounds a bit diminishing. The primary reason it was released to theatres at all was to qualify for the awards. Like I said… nit-picky, sorry.
Everyone should watch it, it’s fantastic and deserves some major kudos.

    • Brittney B. says:

I didn’t take it as a dig at all. Her next line says exactly what you said: that it will have a limited run just for awards purposes. To me it was a look at his current projects… “you can already watch this movie here”, etc. I was surprised; I didn’t know it was already “out”!

Don’t worry, Netflix originals are worlds away from straight-to-DVD stereotypes at this point. They’re launching an Oscar campaign… they’re a major player.

      • karen says:

I don’t think she meant it that way, but some people still think that if something is released directly to netflix….it’s potential crap.
I love their original programming, and I think it’s fantastic they took a chance with this movie. It has the potential to be a game changer in the way movies are released.

    • mom2two says:

The director basically said the same thing, the movie was never going to be a big commercial release. I need to see it on Netflix.

And yes, Idris is stunningly hot.

  9. Zapp Brannigan says:

Well my morning has suddenly perked up!

  10. Miss M says:

Thank you for Idris Elba in leather pants, Madonna!

  11. Jayna says:

He was so cute dancing on stage with Madonna. I love someone who isn’t all uptight and too cool to do something. He had a ball in that choreographed routine she does in every show. Most of the time it’s with a fan they will pull up out of the audience, but if there’s a celeb in the house she’ll get them to get up on the stage. He just went with it and had fun. I loved that he DJ’d before the show.

  12. leigh says:

God yes. Said every straight female on planet Earth.

  13. Naddie says:

I get his appeal but I don’t at the same time. He’s charming, cool, but the swoon he gets here makes one think he’s some demigod.

    • vauvert says:

Same here. I mean he is a good looking guy, don’t get me wrong, but I really don’t get the vapours looking at him.

  14. grabbyhands says:

I just want to rub his face with my face! (I wish we could post gifs here).

Not a Madonna fan, but respect to her for knowing a good thing when she sees it and not worrying about how his blinding hotness washes everything else out while he is onstage with her.

  15. Jaded says:

If I still had my ovaries they’d be ‘sploding right now….

  16. Annie says:

    be still, my beating heart.

  17. LondonGal says:

Nah. Don’t get it. This is a man who calls himself ‘Big ‘Driss’ when DJing and not ironically.

    • Elisa the I. says:

+1. I laughed at the Djing name. Also, he is way too old.

    • geezlouise says:

I said it before – dirty garbage man. If I saw him in my peephole after he rang my doorbell I would call the police.

      • Paris says:

        Yeah! Me, too!

      • AlmondJoy says:

Not sure how someone can “look” like a garbage man.. Do they all look the same? But good to know that I should call the police on them. I’ll try that next time one is in the neighborhood!

      • geezlouise says:

He looks exactly like the garbage truck drivers who alternate picks up in my neighborhood. I’m sure they are nice guys but, well, they look dirty and scruffy. Like Idris Elba.

  18. I Choose Me says:

Adds Beasts of No Nation to my must watch on Netflix List. This and Jessica Jones are what I’m really looking forward to right now.

Idris Elba is the sex in those leather pants. Bet Madonna wishes she could get her some o that.

  19. K says:

I’d do anything he wanted anywhere he wanted anytime he wanted. The man is perfection and now he is wearing leather pants, excuse me while I die.

  20. nubiahbella says:

Most overrated man ever. along with Cumberbatch All I see is an old man lol!

    • Beckysuz says:

Aww, I like older men. My husband is older. Give them a chance, they know things…lots and lots of things 🙂 Also Idris is hot and I cant wait for the Luther special ! I hope they bring Alice (Ruth Wilson) back for it

      • byland says:

Ruth Wilson was preforming on Broadway (Tony nominated!) when the special was filmed. Very little chance of an Alice appearance. My hopes are that he’s back to take care of something before returning to her.

    • sunglasses Aready says:

Honey – he’s OLD BUT NOT COLD

  21. Sarah01 says:

    Oh yes yes yes!

I watched beast of no nation and it was profound and upsetting film. It’s tough for me to watch children in vulnerable positions. It’s also very elegant with no over the top drama just exceptional performances especially by the two young boys. The music is so beautiful.

  22. Christina says:

Yes. Yes I would. Yes I would climb it like a tree.

  23. byland says:

To quote Louise from Bob’s Burgers, “I just want to slap his his hideous, beautiful face.” In an absolutely, unequivocally sexual way. Almost brutal. Ugh.

  24. Paris says:

What’s the big attraction? Very good actor, but way overrated in the looks department.

  25. Abby_J says:

Oh heck yes. Every day, all day.

I love this man. I have a little Heimdall POP Funko and every time I see it, it just makes me happy.

Wish they had a Luther POP Funko. 🙂

  26. KBeth says:

    ……..like a screen door in a hurricane.
