Would you like to hear a preview of Adele’s ‘When We Were Young’? OMG.

Adele arrived in NYC late last week, and these are some photos of her out and about over the weekend in Manhattan. She’s going to be the musical guest on Saturday Night Live this weekend, plus she’ll be doing some promotion for her album, which drops this Friday. Even though there are tons of photos of Adele this week, I wanted to post these, just because even vocal goddesses have fashion struggles. These Capri pants need to burned in a cleansing, healing fire.

Adele covered The Guardian’s Observer Magazine last week, and there are some newly-released quotes from the piece. While Adele has maintained that this new album, 25, isn’t full of the same kind of heartbreak, yearning and sadness as 21, as it turns out, she did write one song about an ex. She describes the song “Send My Love (To Your New Lover)” to a guy who broke her heart, saying:

“This is my f—k you song. It sounds obvious, but I think you only learn to love again when you fall in love again. I’m in that place. My love is deep and true with my man, and that puts me in a position where I can finally reach out a hand to the ex. Let him know I’m over it.’

Adele has indeed found love again in none other than her “man” and partner, Simon Konecki, and their 3-year-old son, Angelo. Contrary to reports that she and Konecki have been on the brink of a split, Adele told the paper with a sigh that they are still together. “Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes. And very happy.” According to the singer-songwriter, Konecki was supportive of another track called “I Miss You,” which simply repeats the lyrics: “I miss you / I miss you / I miss you / I miss you.”

“My man is loyal,” Adele said of Konecki. “My man is strong. So we spoke early on, and he said, ‘Your writing isn’t anything to do with me.’ He’s fine with it. And it takes a strong man, I think, to be like that.”

There are some concerns by some fans that without the broken-heart anthems, this album might not do as well. To that I say… um, it’s still Adele. I’m still not convinced that “Hello” is even the best single on the album, and “Hello” already smashed all the records.

Speaking of the other songs, Adele offered up a preview of the track “When We Were Young” for 60 Minutes Australia. YAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSS.

Goosebumps. So good to have her back <3

  2. Lk says:

I must be the only person with internet connection who hasn’t listen to ‘Hello’. Tell me please, is it a whiny song? Because god bless everyone here, but i hate whiny song.

    • Naya says:

“Tell me please, is it a whiny song?”
      Yes.

      • Lk says:

@Naya Thank you. I’m gonna skip it, then.

      • SugarQuill says:

Ha! Just a few days ago I was telling a friend that, to borrow (and slightly tweak) a line from The OC, Adele’s music sounds like one violin and a whole lot of complaining to me. I find it utterly unremarkable and uninspired. That being said, I like her as a person and think she’s very charming. And she’s a hoot and a half.

    • Lexie says:

I love her, I love her music. But this song is not my jam. She keeps shrieking and it’s like, “I’m right here. Stop yelling.”

      • Moneypenny says:

That’s how I feel. I mean, it’s still better than 90% of what is out there, but doesn’t touch any previously released singles from other albums IMO.

  3. Locke Lamora says:

I like Adele as a person, but I don’t find her music that mindblowing. It’s good, but so good to deserve such hysteria? Not really, at least in my opinion.

Also, the way she calls him “my man” sounds a bit weird.

    • Amelia says:

The entire Observer piece is worth a read. She explains that she refers to her partner and son as ‘my man’ and ‘my son’ and tends to not use their names with people she isn’t close with. I found it quite interesting.
Side note – for anyone who can access BBC iPlayer, there’s going to be a special programme on Friday with Graham Norton hosting an evening with Adele.
I’m so glad this hilarious woman is back 😀

    • t.fanty says:

I’m with you. I mean, her music is alright, but her lyrics aren’t that great and her songs are a bit, ummm, homogenous. I think we’re just so starved for anything culturally substantial that Adele’s good enough-ness has been elevated.

      • Naya says:

This exactly. She is the anti-popstar (while of course being an actual popstar) and people have latched on that. Musically shes ok, not much range in her music style or her vocals but she isnt bad. Her fame rides on her being counter-cultural in a non threatening, very suburb friendly manner.

      • SugarQuill says:

Yup, I agree with both of you, t.fanty and Naya.

    • Diana B says:

I think all of you limit yourselves to the singles and have not listened her whole records. Not all her songs are about heartbreak, many yes, but not all and she can sing a variety of music styles. I personally think she’s awsome but I guess to each their own.

      • WinnieCoopersMom says:

I agree. ‘Hometown,’ a song that has nothing to do with heartbreak, is one of her best!

    • SusanneToo says:

She’s very likable in interviews, but her music bores me stiff. I change stations when it comes on.

    • bluhare says:

I’d like to see her pick up the beat a bit. I hope we’re not in for two years of only power ballads.

    • Mrs. Darcy says:

I was just thinking the same thing, she seems like such a cool chick, but her music just does nothing for me. I think she is talented, I get why people like her, but I have never once heard an Adele song and thought “I must play this over and over again”.

    • phlyfiremama says:

It isn’t that her LYRICS are that mind blowing, it is the VOICE that deserves that distinction.

  4. Lindy79 says:

The bit I hear I really like..

I prefer her hair a bit more messy like she has it in the promo

  5. Frances says:

She is SO FREAKING CUTE. That look of surprise at the end! I just love her.

  6. aligoat says:

    Gosh she is wonderful.

  7. lower-case deb says:

i love how she owns up to the struggle to remain grounded. it’s definitely a slippery being surrounded by Yes men all the time. the realization that she’s turning into a bratty child trapped underneath dirty laundry.. also the conscious decision to go back and work as a record store clerk after her first two grammys. some audiophiles have the talent to bring people back down to earth with a holy snit when they can’t locate the white label limited pressings they’ve been promised (even worse if it turned out to be sold to some underserving luddite).

also love the story about the breastfeeding gang at the Oscars (she was surprised by how many of them do it).

just as an aside: i think she can do well in stand up comedy circuit when her singing gig dries up.

  8. Idon'tCare says:

Love her! Love her music! She’s the best of the best.

  9. Mimz says:

She posted the full song on her site and on youtube. It will probably grow on me. I think she looks great these days, and I love her laugh – I can so identify with that type of crass loud laugh. Because I’m like that too haha
I’m glad she’s back in the music industry, and that she risks making something different than what people know her for, and that’s great. Many artists nowadays will stick to the same formula for as long as possible.
    Go Adele!

    • Nik says:

But she HAS been making the same music over and over again. You really think “Hello” sounds different from anything on 21 or 19?

      • Mimz says:

Yeah I guess it does sound the same, but I think that has more to do with her “style”. By different I mean something other than broken heart, I was wronged by my ex. All of that.

      • Nik says:

Oh ok…so you meant more lyrical content. Well yeah sure I guess.

  10. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

I think it’s lovely to see a woman coming into her own with such beauty and strength, embracing her imperfections and striving to do better but feeling her own power.

  11. Nancy says:

I think she is a beautiful song goddess. She is real and unpretentious and is everything. Love her. Love her….had to say it twice

    • Cricket says:

Agree! I loved the segment with Anderson Cooper from years ago when she was baking something and showing him her house where she only uses like three rooms and is messy just like a typical 20 something. It’s easy to forget how young she really is compared to others.

  12. lucy2 says:

The new song sounds great, of course. I can’t wait for this album! She seems to have done the impossible – remained a grounded, down to earth person in the midst of the biggest success one can have in her field. She’s just all around lovely.

  13. Nut says:

hello sucks big time, after all those great songs and waiting then hello is a huge dissapointment for me. i could have come up w better song honestly

    • WinnieCoopersMom says:

I actually agree. So many people I know who have never been true followers of Adele’s music were freaking out about how amazing ‘Hello’ is. I’m like it’s not as good as ‘Don’t You Remember’ or ‘Someone Like You’ and they’re like dumbfounded bc they don’t know her old stuff. I hope the rest of the album stands out.

      • Lemons says:

There can’t be a person alive who hasn’t heard those songs. All her music to me sounds like glossy movie soundtrack music you’d find during the emotional scenes in a rom com. Not really my thing, but I think she’s a great girl with a personality, and sometimes that goes a long way toward helping sell yourself. She makes mainstream music that crosses generations and genders so that sells records. Her music’s pleasant but not original, but she’s talented and writes and plays her own songs which is more than most ballad singers.

  14. Eden75 says:

Not a huge fan of her music, it’s not really my thing, but there are some songs I like. I am not big on the new stuff but whatever floats people’s boats. Adele herself however cracks me up. I think she is one of those people I would love to have a beer and a bulls**t with. Her and Mark Ruffalo, now that would be a good night!

  15. Cee says:

Ok, that change of key and pitch was amazing. Can’t wait for Friday.

  16. NinaS says:

I was in Europe for the past two weeks and, unfortunately, these pants with booties are pretty popular and I guess considered quite fashionable. You can just see a slice of calve skin, which does nothing for a full figured girl (or any girl for that matter), because it breaks up the long line that would create an elegant silhouette.

  17. cindyp says:

Her screeching hurts my ears, this song sound like all her others. Only Adele song I like is “Rolling in the Deep”.

  18. Amanda G says:

I’m not wild about Hello, but I looooved 21 so I hope there are other tracks on her new album I will enjoy.

    BTW, she looks fantastic!

  19. Singtress says:

I love Adele to pieces. But she is too young to be singing about how mad she is to be old.
The good part is, however, in 20 years she’ll realize this and write an even better song.

  20. Otaku Fairy says:

I actually do like Hello a little bit better, but this is good too.

  21. Coconut says:

Her pants are culottes not capris. And unfortunately they’re making a comeback.

  22. Kate Bush says:

I didn’t realise how beautiful she is.. Such gorgeous skin. She comes across as a nice down to earth person too..

  23. Amy says:

Just hear to say I LOVE the pants! (Very European)

  24. renniej says:

Just heard the whole new album for the first time. Honestly? I thought its a major disappointment! Her singing is always first rate, but the songs are mostly middle-of-the-road, cliche-ridden generic pop tunes. The sort of stuff a lot of other artists actually do much better, if for no other reason than that I expect so much more from her.

What was so great about her last album was that it paired that great singing with some interesting, off the beaten path song selections. This new stuff just sounds like you’ve heard most of it a million times before. One or two tunes rise above that, but that’s about it. Adele was a lot more interesting when she didn’t seem to aspire to being Celine Dion. Before this, I thought she was much, much more than that. I’d be willing to bet a lot of people wind up saying this is a disappointment.
