Beth Stern has been fostering kittens, has over 200k followers on Instagram

You guys know I am only covering this story because kitties, but it’s a nice story – and kitties. Beth Ostrosky Stern, Howard Stern’s wife of seven years, is an animal lover and is involved in animal charities. (I still remember the sweet message she posted when their bulldog passed, it broke my heart.) Beth has been fostering cats and kittens in her home for some time now, and I’m just discovering her kind of amazing Instagram account in which she posts photos of the kittens just looking adorable and doing kitten stuff. Apparently this is making her Internet famous, she has 210,000 followers on Instagram, and she’s giving her talkshow host husband a run for his money. The couple told a cute story about how they were out at dinner and Beth got recognized from Instagram.

“Poor Howard” is what Beth Stern thought on a recent night out when some hard-core fans approached the table where she was eating with her hubby Howard Stern.

But they weren’t there to snap selfies with the shock jock — they were obsessed with the statuesque blonde’s Instagram account, which chronicles her days spent fostering litters of adorable kittens. Beth now has over 200,000 followers.

“They were saying, ‘I love your Instagram,’” Beth tells Confidenti@l. She notes that it’s now common for people to approach her to talk about her life’s work. “Little kids everywhere are like, ‘It’s Yoda’s mom!’ I’ve found my purpose in life, definitely.”

[From The NY Daily News]

Beth has her second book out, it’s an illustrated children’s book called Yoda Gets a Buddy and is a follow up to her 2014 children’s book, Yoda: The Story of a Cat and His Kittens. The books are based on the true story of Yoda, a sickly rescue cat with a heart problem who found new purpose and health fostering kittens at the Sterns’ home. In this follow up, Yoda meets Buddy, a blind cat who also needed a lot of TLC and became friends and helpmates with Yoda. Beth’s new book is out today and it’s sure to do well as her first book was a NY Times Bestseller. The best part? All proceeds go to the North Shore Animal League! Just looking through Beth’s photos you can tell she loves animals more than anything.

Here are some of the incredible cats that the Sterns are fostering.

I need that black kitten right meow.

    • JudyK says:

      OMG, me too…it is PRECIOUS!

    • Kitten says:

      I want them all!!

Thank you so much for doing this story, CB, for the following reasons:

      Number One: KITTENS!!!!

Number Two: I love Beth (and Howard of course). Beth’s passion is animal welfare and she’s done so much for various shelters and animal charities.
This was a sweet story and I can’t wait to start following her on IG.

      • V4Real says:

I like Howard and Beth as well.

I posted a comment yesterday about a Florida woman named Kim who received awful well deserved threats for posting a pic on FaceBook of her dog with duct tape around it’s mouth. The caption said something like this is what happen when they don’t shut up. What a despicable woman.

So much thanks for people like Beth who are animal lovers and are out there fighting for their wellbeing.

    • lucy2 says:

Me too! I love black cats in general, but that one is extra cute. The fluff!

    • JudyK says:

Our little black kitty was just on TODAY w/ Beth Stern and some of the others pictured above. It’s even cuter on t.v.! She is such a good person…she’s already found homes for all 18 kittens.

For anyone who’s interested, you can catch her at 10:00 a.m. (CST) on Hoda and Kathie Lee.

  2. GoodNamesAllTaken says:

Aw, the Instagram is sweet. But how could anyone be married to Howard Stern? I think he’s hideous, inside and out.

    • Snazzy says:

I guess that’s why she needs kittens around all the time 😉

    • kcarp says:

$$$$$$$$$$$ and thirst….kittens are cute and all…. especially the numerous ones strategically placed on Beth to highlight one of her decent features.

      • tmc says:

I dont have a feeling on her or Stern necessarily but you cannot fake that. And the instagram is mostly kittens, not her, and not kittens placed strategically on her.

Stern was a fan of a band I knew and he seems like he has an okay side but how you deal with some of his other antics… I dont know. I guess once you like someone, those things soften. As to why she first paid attention to him, that is another story but that happens with all men (and maybe women) who have fame and money, they get in relationships that others might not.

Still, she seems like a really good person. Kudos to her. The plight of animals in the U.S. needs so much attention ; animals are needlessly killed every day in * shelters *.

    • Pedro45 says:

I have never been a fan of his shock jock persona but years ago he was signing books in a bookstore I was working in and he was so nice to everyone–fans and bookstore staff. He thanked everyone and just genuinely seemed grateful and like he wanted to be there. I still don’t listen to him but I have a soft spot for him just from that day.

      • SJO says:

Have waited on him. He’s a sweetheart. Its all a persona.

      • V4Real says:

I have never met him but I’ve seen him up close. I was able to attend his 46th birthday bash at Roseland when my friend received backstage passes from a guy who was a part of Kid Rock’s crew. We had a blast hanging out with Stephen Baldwin, Mark McGrath and Rock. Rock was so cool back then.

    • Saphana says:

i also dont get it. the way he talks about women, specifically overweight women is just so hateful.

      • aims says:

I guess I’m in the minority here. I like Howard, I think he’s funny and I have always heard he’s genuine. I firmly disagree with his feelings towards overweight people. I think that’s ridiculous and have been disappointed with his celebrity worship. Hearing that he is lovely behind the scenes doesn’t surprise me though.

      • FingerBinger says:

@aims I like Howard as well. It’s a radio persona. The late Joan Rivers remarked the person on the radio was different from her friend off air.

      • Azurea says:

I love Howard! You have to listen to him over a period of time to get that his on-air persona is a creative manifestation, very tongue-in-cheek. Sure he is opinionated, but he’s open-minded, too. Good guy.

    • PennyLane says:

Strangely enough, deep down Howard Stern is a moralist.

      • Mltpsych says:

Agree I love him have been a fan since DC days and got satellite radio because I missed him so much. He is a good person and so is Beth.

    • Petee says:

You must remember Howard from 20 years ago.On his show he says he is hideous to look at.What he does now is great interviews with celebrities and bring out things they would never say.And he is a very nice man.All you have to do is hear him talk about his wife or when Robin went through her cancer.

  3. Talie says:

Yoda is the cutest! And I don’t even like cats.

  4. V4Real says:

Awww I took @ Kitten’s advice and started an Instagram account for my kitten and Husky, though they’re not on it much.

Good for you Beth. Those kittens are cute

    • Kitten says:

Ahhhh! Where are you? We must find each other.

      • V4Real says:

Not sure if you can find it this way. I’m not that knowledgeable about IG but I use the moniker “mustlovehuskies.” It’s under his name which is King James.

  5. Dryon says:

This made my morning. Great way to start the day with cute kittens.

  6. KittenFarts says:

I’ve followed her for awhile now. She seems like such a kind person. The pics she takes are so cute!!!!

  7. Patricia says:

I love Howard. People take him too seriously.

What a life for Beth. Rich as f**k, her husband really does adore her, she’s surrounded by kittens and making a positive change in the world, and she’s beautiful and healthy. Seriously, what a life.

  8. Leah says:

Kittens!!!! So cute! I want a kitten post every day.

  9. Sandy says:

Howard’s stories about Bianca the bulldog dying, and how he and Beth reacted, got me over my own bully’s passing. Still grateful for that. She’s an awesome animal lover!

  10. NYC_girl says:

They are both awesome – she also provides medical care for them and has had a few who are blind due to previous neglect. Regarding Howard, being an animal lover is more important than some radio act. I don’t listen to him anymore (first did when I was in high school 30 years ago) but I know people who have met him and they said he is a really nice guy and involved with his kids.

  11. Jayna says:

Howard was never a cat person. He loved loved loved his dog,. He supported Beth in her animal causes, but didn’t want cats in the house. One by one she changed him. The fact that he has over the years been converted to the point they have lots of cats they foster in their home always astounds me, because he’s fallen in love with cats.

  12. claire says:

Awww, I’ll have to check it out! I already follow so many freaking foster rescue accounts might as well add one more! My favorite right now is actually a dog one, RoofusandKilo. And then there’s the foster_kittens account – they’ve got a set of 6 or 7 ginger kitties that are adorable!

  13. Littlebowbee says:

She’s an angel for what she does, no matter who her spouse is. I’m an animal lover and worked for the humane society for years. Fostering saves tiny lives and gives families an opportunity to add more love to their lives!

  14. lucy2 says:

I love her for fostering, what a kind thing to do. I wish I could, but my cat wouldn’t like it, and I’d ended up keeping them all.

  15. georgia says:

I met her and Bianca few years. She’s a real deal animal lover. My best friend is jealous I got to meet Bianca.

  16. Rita says:

I think she’s extremely likable, and has made me not despise Howard, simply because she hangs with him. They appear to be truly in love. Other than that, I have no use for him.

  17. Tig says:

Loved the calico kitty in first pic! Have been cat-less for several years now, and so miss having one/two around. Bless her for doing what she does!

  18. justagirl says:

Ok I just visited her Instagram and spent too much time looking at cute kitties, omg. She has a passion and genuinely cares about helping animals, refreshing to see.

  19. kri says:

Oh damn. Tears….dammit. I am very grateful for Beth’s kindness and I am also so thrilled that she gives so much.

  20. Josefina says:

Okay, Beth Stern is one of my favorite people in the world right now. Kittens cant get enough love.

  21. paranormalgirl says:

I have had the pleasure of doing some charity stuff for the Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons (ARF) with Beth Stern. She is one of the nicest, most genuine women I have ever met. I really liked her.

  22. Calico Cat says:

Hey! That’s ME in the header picture!

  23. LA Juice says:

She also hosts Animal Planet’s annual Kitten Bowl, on Super bowl Aunday and its amazing! She is very likable.

  24. Christina says:

From what I have heard around animal welfare circles, Beth was always this way , even before she met Howard. She is just “known” now, so people see the good she does more. She is absolutely not doing any of this for “thirst” or money! There is no money making in fostering animals, only the money you put out! As for her book, she is donating ALL proceeds to the North Shore Animal League. People should do a little research before they judge her.
She has fostered & rescued so many kittens, cats and special needs ones as well. Many of them would have been euthanized if it was not for her commitment & compassion. She also assists in rescue & welfare for other animals. She just recently saved a thrush bird, had it rehabbed & set it back into the wild.
As for Howard, he is an entertainer. He is a shock jock, which is basically another form of comedian. I know people who have met him & have nothing but great things to say about him. I think Beth has certainly brought out his softer side & that is a great thing. People are often confused when a gorgeous woman such as Beth is with a what some might call an odd duck looking of a fellow as Howard & they assume that it’s only for money. I think that is pretty ridiculous in this case. She is clearly a sweet & loving person. Howard actually looks pretty darn good as he gets older and he is funny & charming. Also, for the average person who only knows his radio persona, they do not know the true Howard. Beth clearly loves him & it is evident in her social media posts. Howard also names all the foster cats/kittens, which is pretty darn cute! He gives them a lot of food names likes Cucumber & Raisin. Both who found forever homes & have their very own Instagrams!
Her Instagram is awesome. It brings a smile to my face everyday. She is not only beautiful on the outside, but on the inside as well.

  25. Blue Iris says:

They’ve collected a lot of money, but nothing has been built? This should be investigated. Sounds like a slush fund.
