Eva Longoria in Georges Hobeika at the Globes: forgettable or fine?

Eva Longoria was a presenter at last night’s Globes and she did a cute but kind of sad bit with America Fererra about being a Latina actress. Buzzfeed has a good recap of their intro, which included quips about how they’re always mistaken for other actresses. Eva said “I’m Eva Longoria, not Eva Mendes” and America said “I’m America Ferrera not Gina Rodriguez” and then they added “neither of us is Rosario Dawson” and then called each other “Salma” and “Charo.” The only comparison I have to admit I screw up is America Ferrera and Gina Rodriguez. In my defense they’re both young and on TV, but that must be annoying and I have no idea what that’s like.

Eva was wearing this meh white Georges Hobeika gown with cap sleeves, a stupid cut out bow at the neckline, another dumb gold bow along the waist and floral appliques along the sides of the skirt. The flowers looked out of place, especially with the bows and especially on that otherwise sleek gown. I don’t get it.

I’m including Gina Rodriguez here, and I know she’s not America Ferrera! It’s just that Kaiser already covered America Ferrera because she was wearing the same canary yellow/mustard color as Jennifer Lopez. Gina was actually in navy blue, a color I only remember seeing on Kate Winslet. (And Julianne Moore if you count metallics.) This is Zac Posen and it’s way too ballgown for my taste. The bodice is great though, if only this had a more understated skirt. Gina came with her dad, which was cute.

Finally here’s Patricia Arquette, in black and white Paule Ka, with her artist boyfriend Eric White. It looks like if you undo that bow her boobs will pop out. Arquette was a presenter. She helped start the conversation about pay equality by bringing it up in her Oscars speech last year. It’s still very much in the news, with celebrities like Jennifer Lawrence continuing the conversation and Gervais joking about it at the Globes last night.

I think Eva’s gown is pretty.

    • Mimz says:

I agree, the detail on her hips is beautiful. And I do have a soft spot for her. I wish she wore her hair loose.

    • PinaColada says:

+1 I saw Eva’s dress on tv and I actually thought it was very beautiful and unique. Maybe it’s not as eye-catching in pics.

    • Locke Lamora says:

      Me too.

    • Kitten says:

I thought she looked terrible on TV–hated the dress and her hair/makeup but here she actually doesn’t look that bad. I don’t understand why any woman would wear cap sleeves–so unflattering. Even if you have incredibly-toned arms, cap sleeves will make them look like sausages.

    • Tiny Martian says:

Actually, Eva’s was one of my favorite dresses of the night, and just right for the Golden Globes. To me it looked fresh and original.

    • Carol says:

Me too. I liked Eva’s dress. I also liked her bit with America. Patricia never looks very fashionable in any of these award shows but she is the only one who looks “real,” meaning that it appears that she has had nothing done to her face.

    • cd3 says:

I liked Eva’s dress a lot, but one bow would have been enough. The gold bow at the waist added nothing.

  2. Kelly says:

I actually loved the dress except for that stupid bow thing which juvenilized it. It fit, was fresh with the flowers contrasting the white, and it wasn’t the same old, same old without being weird, drapey or nude.

  3. ichsi says:

Very ballgown, I agree, but I have a weakness for this kind of neckline and she wears it beautifully! I love the vintage looking earrings too.

  4. InvaderTak says:

I would like Eva’s a lot better without the bow things on the neck and waist.

    • vauvert says:

Yes! I like the flower embellishment but the bow details are just wrong/juvenile, totally ruin the dress.
Gina’s jewelry is amazing! Love the colour but not crazy about the dress.
Poor Patricia, that is hideous. Her boobs can’t possibly feel comfortable in that getup.
And I hate mustard dresses, no matter who wears them.

  5. Greenieweenie says:

Never even thought to mix up Gina and America. America is Real Women Have Curves to me…she looks so different (not a euphemism for ugly!) when she’s not all done up. Gina looks…roughly the same.

  6. Div says:

I feel mean since Gina seems fairly sweet but something about her grates and the kissy face photo just add to my “ugh” feeling about her along with the princessy ballgown that seems more suited to a 21 year old, and not a 31 year old, or the Oscars. On the other hand I adore America Ferrerra and I wish she had better career and I think she’s so underrated as an actress. I also don’t think they look anything alike. Eva’s dress is awful.

  7. Wentworth Miller says:

I’m must be the only one that thinks the white dress is ugly.
So is the black one with the big ass bow in front.

  8. K says:

    Loved Eva’s dress

  9. Locke Lamora says:

I don’t see the similarity between Gina and America. They are both so pretty, but not similar.
Speaking of Jane The Virgin, how has Jaime Camil not won anything? He’s the standout performance in the show.

  10. Bros says:

I thought Eva’s dress was Gucci… either way, it’s unique and looked good on her and was a departure from her normal mermaid gown drudgery.

  11. HollandW says:

Didn’t Eva and America did that whole thing because the GGs confused America with Gina at one point in recent history?

  12. Bapril says:

Eva’s gown was actually my favorite.

  13. JenniferJustice says:

I think Eva’s dress is very pretty and I like that it’s different.

I absolutely adore Patricia Arquette but she’s not super fashionable. I don’t like her dress but she’s never seemed to care much about that stuff so I don’t expect her to have the most gorgeous dress. The bow needs to go and her breasts are white compared to the rest of her skin. Rake me over the coals if you want to, but I wish she would lose 10 lbs and regain her old posture. She slouches alot now and I suspect it’s because she is insecure about her frame.

  14. Sarah01 says:

I liked Eva’s dress would have loved it if it didn’t have the massive slit. Maybe a small side slit or something and the bow belt wasn’t needed as the neckline was already shaped like a bow.
America looked beautiful she pulled off the colour better than Jlo. The only thing I’d take away is the neck piece, it should have stopped at the embelishment at the top.

  15. MB says:

I really love this gown. Bow and all. I think its charming and I would love to wear it.

  16. What's inside says:

Oh, Eva, what happened? This girl used to be sassy and really shine.

  17. TWstudio says:

Ms. Arquette just came from spaghetti dinner and forgot she’d tucked in her napkin.
