Adele raps to Nicki Minaj, sings along with the Spice Girls: amazing or over it?

After the craptastic news today, I was in the mood for something lighter, which is why I watched this James Corden video. Corden does this bit called Carpool Karaoke on his late-night show, where he gets famous singers to sit in a car with him while he drives around and they sing together. It’s actually a really charming bit, and he’s gotten some great moments out of it. Mariah Carey was actually really funny during her bit, and Stevie Wonder made Corden cry because Stevie called Corden’s wife to sing to her. Anyway, this week’s Carpool Karaoke guest was none other than Adele. Adele and Corden have been friendly for several years, and of course she would agree to do this!!! She’s the best. Here’s the long-ass and completely enjoyable video:

I love the conversation about her hair, whether she got a “mum bob,” whether she should wear more wigs. I love the duet on “Hello” because OMG. Then she tells a hilarious and long-winded story about getting drunk with her fans, which is amazing. Then it goes into “Someone Like You.” And Spice Girls. And squads. God, I love her. I love them together.

Also: while Adele is still breaking all kinds of records, this week she had one of her records broken. David Bowie’s posthumously broke Adele’s Vevo record for most views in a 24-hour period. Sad.

I love seeing Adele’s fun and silly side because her music depresses me to no end! This is so cute.

Totally agree with you. She’s so lovely and has such a stupendous voice, but her songs are soooo depressing.

      • Wentworth Miller says:

It is cool when celebs show that fun silly side as long as they don’t over do it by trying too hard to be like one of the normal down to earth types. JLaw, I’m looking @ you!

    • Cricket says:

totally agree! her laugh is contagious and lovely.

    • Teresa_Maria says:

Totally agree. Her voice is amazing, but I find most of her songs unbearable. Especially the first 2 albums: I get the heartache, but enough is enough.
This video is just pure gold though. And sounding totally superficial I have to say Adele looks so much better now when she has lost some weight. Her features are almost angelic.

She needs to go away forever, so overrated.

Your comment made me laugh so hard! I wouldn’t say forever… She’s talented. But I will say that I’m one of the few people who doesn’t get the Adele worship. It’s annoying.

I love Adele she can do no wrong in my eyes.

Adele for once is NOT the one making me cry. That face when she realizes that James has some vocal chops – hahaha. Thank you, needed this.

  5. Tiffany says:

Carpool Karaoke is wonderful. While the one with Stevie Wonder was all kinds of awesome, the one that surprised me was One Direction. Those younguns charmed me.

She’s very pretty in this video.

  15. SusanneToo says:

I admit I was one of the Adele doubters, I just didn’t get the hype, but I saw this last night and she charmed the daylights out of me. Now I’ll need to listen to an entire album, but I’ve really warmed to her.
And James Corden brings out the best in his guests, especially his Carpool. Stevie will always be my favorite, but even people I’ve never given a thought to before, like One Direction, were terrific and even the Biebs came across well. Love James.

I love this! I really enjoy Adele, and I have liked Corden since Gavin and Stacey. Great combo.

  21. kri says:

LOL! This made me laugh so hard. Her rap was almost as good as my own. I’m serious. I am the Old Chubby Shady. Thanks James and Adele!

  22. anne_000 says:

All I took out of this segment was that James is a very good singer. But I don’t like that he does this segment while driving. Too many times of being unfocused while driving and hands off the steering wheel.

  23. claire says:

There’s a nice Vulture article out about how this came together and gives a little background on the segments as a whole: http://www.vulture.com/2016/01/james-corden-adele-carpool-karaoke.html?mid=facebook_nymag
