Tom Hardy’s FX miniseries ‘Taboo’ has its first trailer: love it or hate it?

We haven’t devoted too much time to Tom Hardy in the past few months. I was personally put off by the situation between Tom and HitFix’s Drew McWeeny, and the whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth with The Bloke. Plus, Tom really, really was not interested in getting an Oscar nomination and they still gave him one (for The Revenant), and he didn’t campaign at all. So, there really hasn’t been much news about him in 2016 overall.

One of the reasons why Tom wasn’t around to campaign? He was hard at work on a new FX miniseries called Taboo. I always love that about British actors: they don’t give a crap about film vs. TV and they don’t think one medium is superior to another. British actors are more likely to move with ease between film and TV projects with little ego. Like, I’m sure Tom’s people were like, “You’re a movie star now, you should NOT sign on to a cable miniseries, for the love of God.” But he did it and now there’s a trailer.

Taboo is set in the 19th century and it’s about Tom’s character, James Keziah Delaney, who “returns to London from Africa to inherit and rebuild his late father’s shipping empire.” There’s some mention of the East India Company, which was one of the biggest reasons why Britain was an empire for so many years. Tom looks really interesting here and I’m guessing this will be a major career-moment for him. The miniseries doesn’t air until 2017 though. Oh, and Tom probably gets naked at some point in the series. Did I not mention that?

PS… Do you think Tom will even come to the Oscars? I bet he does. And I bet he’s a grumpy bugger the whole time.

I’ll watch it because it looks good!

Plus, I’m always game to watch uppity, evil, greedy Brits get theirs in period pieces…

Tom is still a bitch in my book after his behavior recently, but, I like his work.

This looks cool. He has a kinda Depp at peek angry goth vibe in it… but he’s clearly bigger and… omg I have a crush on Tom Hardy.

  4. Lizzie McGuire says:

Damn it I need FX in a year so I can watch this. Also of course he’s going to the Oscars, Leo will make sure of that.

I saw this yesterday on FX. 2017, really. Why the promo so early, is the BBC airing it first.

Ah Thomas Hardy! I was put off as well by that McSausage thing but after watching the trailer…Lawd Yesus! I mean… You know there are some actors like Tom and Idris Elba, they just have DEPTH! Like, whenever I watch Luther and they show a scene of Idris sitting in a chair and thinking,I truly believe he is being thoughtful .When he speaks I truly believe he is saying what he really thinks. They are very natural at what they do.

On the other hand when I watch Natalie Portman for example thinking in a scene…lets just say I have trouble believing she is really thinking. She just seems..confused ..

FX has some great shows (OJ, American Horror, the Americans, etc). So I give them the benefit of the doubt that this will be decent. Plus Hardydong.

LOVE for me: This looks really, really good; so many great character-actors, names like Stephan Knight, Ridley Scott, Oona Chaplin and on top of that the always mesmerizing Tom Hardy!
Don’t forget Tom’s living for his craft, not to be famous. He isn’t interested in fame at all. And you know what: stop preaching Tom’s an asshole for he’s not and i know were i’m talking about because i followed him for years now . It’s always a double-edged sword referring to stories like Mc Weeny etc. If you knew a little bit more about the man you could have known he a rather humble and public-shy person who only will speak out in a case when reports are unfair and misleading…
So, i’m looking forward for this one and the fact Tom’s attached to the next Nolan movie: Dunkirk.

Well, I missed Tom Hardy being a jerk on a junket. So thanks for the write-up link, this site is always great about that.

But I’m all in. Love him. He’s great in everything that I’ve seen. And the production value on this show is quite high. The show’s producers are movie producers as well. So I appreciate the effort to bring everyone great tv.

    My forever crush!

  12. Betti says:

Oooh i will be watching this, particularly if Ridley Scott is behind it.

  13. ShinyGrenade says:

I’m impress, we can understand when he talks in the trailer!

(He mumbles so much sometimes… like in Peaky Blinders)

  14. isabelle says:

Love that he still does weird out of place in his career movies and definitely will watch. Read an interview where he said would stick with his independent roots no matter how many big movies offered. Seem he is sticking with that idea.

  15. Renee says:

Tom Hardy is one of the most interesting actors i know. Always totally convincing! He was great in The Revenant; in fact the better actor of the movie. But he won’t win cause he didn’t campaign….he was at work as always :))))

  16. Tessa says:

CAN-NOT-WAIT and i don’t have to explain why; that’s one intense trailer and great actors!

  17. Sarah01 says:

This this is right up my alley, can’t wait!
