As we discussed earlier this week, Kristen Stewart seems to be dating 30-year-old French singer-songwriter Soko (birth name: Stephanie Sokolinski). Last week, there were photos of Soko and Kristen walking arm-in-arm in LA, in what seemed like an open pap stroll announcing their relationship. And now these photos, from Paris. Over the weekend, Kristen flew to Paris to be with her (alleged) lover, and Soko greeted her at the airport with flowers. They’ve been wandering around Paris in a love haze ever since, with the paparazzi documenting their moves. Yesterday, the paps got some photos of Soko leaning in for a kiss.
As some of you pointed out, it definitely seems like there was some overlap between Kristen’s relationship with Alicia Cargile and her thing with Soko. Kristen was in Paris last fall, filming Personal Shopper, and I tend to believe that this thing with Soko probably started in or around November. I think that’s when Kristen started winding down her relationship with Alicia too. Back in October, there were rumors of a split between K-Stew and Alicia, but they quickly went on a pap stroll to deflect. And one of the last times Kristen and Alicia were seen together? Just after Christmas. So just how new is this Soko relationship? That’s what I want to know.
Also, the vibe that I’m getting from these photos? Soko is a little bit needy/clingy. But Kristen is always too-cool-for-school, so basically everyone looks needy standing beside her. I’m also getting a vibe of Soko being grateful that Kristen is finally willing to be “official” with their relationship. Last thing: Soko’s style is just killing me. Part of my soul died when I saw her pants.

@BengalCat-Me too. I still wear motorcycle boots and ripped jeans and I have a pretty sick collection of leather jackets in all different colors. I probably dress way too young for my age but as long as I can still pull it off, I’ll continue to dress like the lead singer in a garage rock band lol.
Of the two Soko is actually on the trendier side. Kristen looks the same way she always looks. She’s dressed like this since Twilight came out.

Oddly enough, I kinda dig both looks. But then again, I grew up (using that term ironically) in the 80’s and 90’s. Coincidently, I also own BOTH of those shoes; the Docs as well as the Vans. Oh, and I live in Portland…….their style is what I see everywhere I go!

@queenofcauliflower…true, some of the comments about Soko’s appearance may make other people imitate the air sucking and wheeze that Carrie Bradshaw demonstrated in the bathroom (does anyone else remember that episode, or is it just me?). That said, people are going to comment because, well, they have eyes. It’s not nice, I know, but judging the looks of things AND people is just in our nature. When waiting in line for coffee there’s always a narrative going on in a person’s head about the other people, like, ‘Nice sandals, where can I get those? … Ooh, he’s yummy… That lady has a nice smile … WOAH, yikes buddy, do you even own a mirror??? What made you think THAT looks good?’ We can’t help it, but that’s not a judgment about Soko as a person, but rather her ensemble. As a Parisian, I expect more from her too.

Soko’s quirkiness is so awesome that it hurts to look at it. I mean WOW! She needs to tone it down a little. And I knew people who dressed only to please themselves and they still looked interestingly quirky in a way that I envied.

It doesn’t necessarily make her bisexual. A lot of gay people have opposite sex relationships when they are young and figuring things out. But you are right that she has says she doesn’t have a label for her sexuality so there’s no point guessing or speculating one way or the other.
Soko is OTT. It’s who she is going by her image/personality and music. Live in the moment kind of girl which I find hot because you’re more vulnerable to pain imo. They are delusional but I’m not surprised. When Cumberbatch got married, some of his hardcore fans were into conspiracy theories that they weren’t really married, were hateful af, and or accepted it but even turned on him and insisted he must be on drugs because they realized he wasn’t the person they created in their minds…just because he dared to live a normal life. A lot of them did the same thing to RPattz and his girlfriend, and now they are doing it to Kristen and Soko. OK that would make sense but why did she not do that with Alicia who seemed to want to be more affectionate with K only she wasn’t into it? Even when Alicia tried to hug K, all she got was a half-assed hug back. They didn’t even hold hands until the last of their relationship! That’s not to say she wasn’t a emotional behind closed doors, it’s their life and choices after all!
But why do it with a new GF who is known for being OTT and not very quiet about her life? If they break up, it’s not going to be clean and low profile like with Alicia. It is harsh but I’m guessing she just didn’t feel that comfortable with it because she might have been her first girlfriend. With my first non-hetero relationship, I was super introverted….and then after it was over I was like “okay, you know what, I can get over this and feel more comfortable being myself” and realized that I had been lying to myself before about being truly out (I was like semi-out). In all honesty it wasn’t until the third woman I went out with that I felt comfortable being myself in public even though I kept telling myself that t I was that way with my second gf..and that was a big difference from my relationship with my first gf.
Is it fair? No. But your words “trial” run really aren’t that far off for a lot of us when we have our first non-hetero partner. Several of my friends tend to shy away from people who are in that glass closet, semi-closet, or freshly out because while some of them might have finally come to terms with who they are…they haven’t necessarily grown or developed a sense of self yet or are still scared of being overtly public. Sometimes people make one big giant step and it’s great, a lot of people though make baby steps.
OR she is just growing more comfortable with herself and is with a partner who gets her to drop her inhibitions. Its not that complicated.

Soko seems to be exactly how Kristen wants to project herself, that’s what I’m getting. Kristen likes to front as being tough and as not giving a sh*t, and being super creative and a free spirit, but I’ve never really seen any evidence of that. She’s dating an alter- image that she has of herself.
Exactly! Soko does not project well on pic, but she is really and truly genuine, she is a very fragile person who bares it all (at least in interviews) she adresses anything from the death of her dad, to the guilty pleasure being recognized have gave her, to being a really awkward and knowing it. The girl is absolutely and incredibly genuine and sincere.

While I thought Kristen’s style with Alicia was adorable (I’m probably in the minority here), I kind of love that, by contrast, Soko definitely has her own sense of style completely unlike Kristen’s. I looved that in the pap video, Kristen saw the paps shooting, and reached overtly for Soko’s hand, definitely trying to make a statement about her relationship status. I also kind of love it when a more reticent person is paired with someone more overtly demonstrative – it brings out another side of that reserved person, and that’s happening, too. I ship it! Clothing choices are only one aspect of a person and if Soko is creative and talented, I can’t hate on her for eyeball-searing combinations of plaid and clogs with white socks.

Pretty sure she’s in this upcoming Lily-Rose Depp film too (ugh, nepotism). I heard Lily-Rose was good in that upcoming Keven Smith film and she’s a pretty girl….but it bugs me that she’s been handed the lead (at 16 or 17) in a film with people like Louis Garrel and Gaspard Ulliel or even Soko (I also think there are a few other big name French stars too) without having “proven” herself and also because of her parents. Plus Lily-Rose is the lead in a new Natalie Portman French film too (apparently it’s a French language film so I’m impressed Natalie’s skills are that good).

I don’t know. He dad died from aneurism when she was 5 (she talks a lot about it, about how it has damaged her deeply and she still can’t recover). And she’s an actress since being 16 and a singer (quite a successful one).
I don’t know but from her interviews she apparently comes from a normal middle-class family with a working mom.

If we are still on art school students as comparisons it is often the hair styles that catch more attention here (not in Paris). Different colors of hair, sides shaved, etc. Bad hygiene to be sure. Often shorts in the winter time. Interesting but nothing to far out of the realm.
Soko’s outfits remind me of what a try hard hipster wannabe I was in the late 80s and early 90s. I would have worn that whole ensemble! I would have worn it to a hipster dive cafe for breakfast and while sipping my coffee and waiting for a plate of hashbrowns, I would have pulled my knitting project out of my bag and worked on it in public…because nothing says cool like knitting in a cafe….sorry…Soko is dredging up repressed hipster memories!!!!!!! I hope they stay together for a couple more months. I’m enjoying this.

Cute couple. I have never heard of Soko but I think they look cute together. I don’t understand the talk of overlap or the need for it other than to throw shade at Kristen. I had a sense the relationship between her and Alicia was winding down a long time ago when there were less and less pap photographs of them hanging out alone together and more of Kristen hanging out with her other close LA friends.
I also don’t buy the pap stroll theory. Paps have been stalking her relentlessly all over the world since her Twilight days with Pattinson. The reality is photos of her out and about are still in big demand no matter who she is romantically involved with at the moment.
In the past, she would lash out at them which I thought only added fuel to the fire but she was very young. I think she is slowly learning to just deal with the pap’s imposing presence. It’s easier to just let the paps get their photographs and hopefully they’ll move on with little or no drama.
One interesting thing about her is that her detractors are as thirsty for her as her fan base. It started when heartthrob Pattinson fell deeply in love with teenaged Kristin during the filming of the first Twilight movie and pursued her relentlessly even though she had a long-term boyfriend at the time, which made her Enemy #1 with his rabid fans. Their animosity for her grew stronger when they became a legit couple. And no, I never bought the fake couple conspiracy for PR purposes. Fake PR couples don’t adopt dogs and move in together or spend Christmas and New Years Eve together with their respective families for YEARS! With that said, I have always liked both Kristen and Robert P, as a couple and non couple. As a fan, I wish them both the best in their current relationships.

I would point out that physical affection standards are different in France and that girls who hold hands aren’t unusual for friends. Given that Kristin is am actor and really adaptable to her environment I don’t read into this at all. That said, would love it if they were really together.

I mentioned upthread that I saw some retweets on Twitter last night from some of fringe fans of Stewart (the ones who think she is the mother of two children). They also brought up this POV of “when in France” and affection norms for girls/women friends in France as a way to say these two are not involved.
I’m not saying you are one of those fans, but only bring it up because in either point, I do not believe that is what these pictures are about. If this were a man and a woman no one would be questioning that they are a couple/dating. No one would say, hey it’s normal for men and woman who are friends to hold hands and act affectionate.
I just don’t see the big deal in seeing what is pretty obvious in these photos. Two people who are involved in some kind of romanticish relationship and seem really into whatever is happening between them.
@mia, there’s no hope of converting the truly insane people who think Rob and Kristen are secretly married. Every subsequent romance and relationship is another cover-up story to them, and even an overt declaration on Rob and Kristen’s part that they are with who we see they are with would likely be taken as another indication that they’re concealing their love with “fake” relationships. I do enjoy occasionally reading an explanation of how every single photo of Rob and Twigs taken by multiple paparazzi in worldwide locations over months and years is a photoshopped fake.

Does anyone else remember Soko from her fabulous and hilarious song I’ll Kill Her in 2007? I didn’t realise she’d been powering on since then and making more music!
