Anna Wintour ‘loves’ the rock n’ roll makeover Vogue gave to Taylor Swift

The documentary about the making of last year’s Met Gala, The First Day In May, premiered this week at the Tribeca Film Festival. Anna Wintour attended the premiere but never took off her sunglasses, because taking off one’s sunglasses at a premiere is impossibly gauche. Anna has been surprisingly open this week though – she stopped by Seth Meyers’ show several days ago, and on Thursday, she chatted with a terrified Savannah Guthrie on the Today Show. Savannah was so scared of being judged by Nuclear Wintour’s withering gaze, but Anna told Savannah that she looked fine. They chatted about the documentary mostly, but Anna did talk about the Taylor Swift Vogue cover and more.

Not only does Anna love Taylor Swift’s Vogue cover, but Anna thinks that Taylor looks “rock n’ roll.” Huh. She says: “I’m thrilled that it’s Taylor Swift. We very much wanted to give Taylor a new look. Make her into a rock ‘n’ roll chick… We love the way she looks… We think she looks young and modern and different, and I can’t wait to see what she’s gonna wear on May 2.” Anna was also asked about her least favorite fashion trend and she said: “Well, um, I don’t really love nylon.”

I’m kind of enjoying this Wintour publicity tour, and I kind of think that she should go on Today to reveal and defend the Vogue cover every month. These kinds of appearances make her less “the terrifying demon who controls Vogue with an Iron Fist of Doom” and make her seem more like just a normal editor-in-chief who knows a ton about fashion.

Incidentally, there’s one moment in The First Day of May where Anna is bitching about one of the Met Gala guests who is constantly on his cellphone. When Wintour is told that the guy is coming back, she says: “OK, can he not be on his cellphone the entire time, then?” We heard that story weeks ago, and now we know who she was bitching about: Ricky Van Veen, Allison Williams’ husband. Page Six also says that the documentary shows Wintour and other Vogue employees complaining about some B-lister and C-lister guests like Dave Franco and Josh Hartnett. You can read more here.

I wish Vogue would give *Ms. Wintour* a rock n roll makeover. That girl needs to change things up!

  2. InvaderTak says:

*snort* well…there’s no accounting for taste. Or out of touch-ness I guess.

    Nuclear Wintour! I’m dying!!

  4. Lizzie McGuire says:

She definitely gave her a makeover but not a good one. That Dollar General Anna Wintour mop wig that T Swift is wearing is a slap in the face to all the other wigs in the world.
The documentary does look interesting so I’ll be watching that if it’s near me. I want to see Anna shut down people for 2 hrs or however long it is.

I’ve decided this cover is some Vogue fashion and beauty editor’s gift to everyone Taylor Swift wrote a revenge song about. What better revenge is there against her than making her look ridiculous on the cover of Vogue? She won’t diss the magazine since she finally has Anna Wintour’s approval. She is too aware of her image not to realize how terrible this shoot was, but I highly doubt her and her squad will be humble bragging too much about this one. She has to take this one on the chin and move on.

Anna wintour is probably a One Direction fan goes & comments “Harry is the best” in every thread. This cover is her revenge for what T.Swift did to poor Harry because I doubt she’s a John Mayer’s fan. At least that’s what I think she’s been doing instead of getting her sh-t together in Vogue.

I don’t think Anna Wintour was necessarily behind it… I feel like the editors who actually go to the shoots soften some of her crazier ideas especially when dealing with a model who is a star in her own right. I’m sure they don’t push it too far because Wintour is heavily involved in every decision, but I think they could have found a more attractive way to achieve her “rock and roll” chic concept. Though if it was Wintour’s own passive aggressive slight, then I’d say it was on behalf of Kanye West or Katy Perry. Though….. anyone know her feelings toward Camilla Belle? Belle is considered a fashion darling by some big name designers, right?

      • Lizzie McGuire says:

I can see Kanye for some unknown reason she likes him. Jake Gyllenhaal might be too he’s universally adored by everyone. It’s probably all of the above because I’ve seen her other Vogue covers & they’re aren’t so badly styled as this one. I just don’t think it worked out the “rock n’ roll” look they were trying to give her. It makes no sense at all. Every single person from Katy Perry to Kanye is framing this one.

She really has lost her touch hasn’t she?

Nothing about that photo shoot was rock and roll, just sad posing and awkward styling.

Funny though, if you guys read yesterday’s Lainey post about the cover, they thought it was just amazing and all sorts of cool. Which goes to prove why Anna is still helming Vogue, despite the fact that (IMO) she is a disaster now, just like Karl L is turning Chanel into a mockery of what it used to be and Kanye’s BF doing the same at Balmain. Honestly, some of these people are either running out of ideas, or getting past their prime and not able to let go. The fashion world has become a bore and a playground of second generation snotty kids (looking at all the current “supermodels”) who have no idea of couture, they just want to prance on runways and get magazine covers.
Sorry, rant over… I just remember the old Vogue covers and how beautiful they were, and the French mags I used to read, and nowadays I simply have stopped buying any of them. When InStyle first came out it was great, I used to love buying it, but now it’s one big snooze fest.

What an incredible outfit. She looks amazing for 60 plus!

I think we have 2 very different definitions about rock and roll.
Nothing says rock and roll about Taylor Swift, she on the other side, would be perfect for the cover of ‘Unsexy unicorns rolled in glitter’.

  9. Lex says:

Well, what was she going to say? I purposely made Taylor look as hideous as possible? Taylor is too out of touch with reality to realize she’s been trolled. She has a ginormous ego and her fans are too far up her butt to tell her otherwise. The fact that Taylor brought the vogue writer to her childhood best friends wedding, where she was maid of honor, is evidence enough that Taylor needs a break from the spotlight.

  10. Summer says:

Rock n Roll look? More like a Sia meets Karli look

  11. Arlene says:

I thought she looked like Hansel ( Owen Wilson in Zoolander)- he had the exact same hairstyle.

  12. Wendy says:

When she says she’s not into nylon I wonder if that’s in relation to Yeezy. Cause it’s a ton of nylon body stockings.

  13. iheartgossip says:

She needs to retire and retire that awful wig. This woman here. I’ve never agreed with her ‘fashion choices’, but her laying with the K family make her completely unqualified.

  14. Amanda G says:

Taylor has bad enough hair as it is…but that style is the most horrible I’ve ever seen on a magazine cover.

  15. Lurker says:

I think that film is called “The First Monday in May”.

    Sorry I’m such a pedant. 🤓
