Gwen Stefani in a sequin dress at Radio Disney awards: hot or unfinished?

2016 Radio Disney Music Awards

Gwen Stefani rocked the red carpet at Saturday night’s Radio Disney Music Awards in Los Angeles in a colorful Olympia Le Tan dress and simple black Louboutin pumps. I love the front of this dress, it really kind of fits well with a Disney event, and you can never go wrong with a black Louboutin pump, but the back of the dress makes me think one of two things. Either the designer got tired and couldn’t be bothered to do anything on the back, or that the whole thing was a last-minute idea. Regardless, I dig the dress and I covet that hairdo.

Gwen, who attended the ceremony with Blake Shelton, surprised fans on the red carpet by posing with her adorable 6-year-old niece Stella. Stella looked adorable in a romper and cowboy boots. The kid is no stranger from being in front of the camera, having modeled some fashions from Aunt Gwen’s kids’ line last year. Gwen kept Blake on the back burner during much of the ceremony, posing for pictures with young fans in the audience – with Blake conveniently cut out. Somehow, I think Blake was okay with this.

Gwen performed her catchy hit “Make Me Like You” at the ceremony and was presented the “Hero” award from her Voice co-star Pharrell Williams. Pharrell said “I’m proud to be here tonight to present the 2016 Ardy ‘Hero’ Award to not only someone I work with, recorded with, who I know, and what my brother, Blake Shelton, knows, truly has a heart of gold.” When Gwen came up to receive her award, Blake got the crowd to their feet for a standing “O” for his lady love. I know a lot of you are tired of Gwake, but I find that sweet. Gwen, who didn’t prepare a formal acceptance speech, was super gracious on stage. Here are some highlights from her speech:

Let’s get something straight. This [Williams] is my hero, right here, one of my biggest heroes is this guy! I love you so much! This is crazy that this is happening to me! I never thought, I mean who am I, that I would ever make a difference? I am so honored to be here, I am so honored to be making music,” she said. “I am so blessed to be making music that I can share with you and that I can receive your love back. I am so healed by you!

[From People Magazine]

Is it weird that Gwen is getting a “Hero” award so soon? I guess at 46, a “hero” award from the Disney crowd is like a lifetime achievement award at the Grammys.

This award is the latest event in what has been a busy couple of months for Gwen, and she’s showing no signs of slowing down. She’s taking her This is What the Truth Feels Like Tour on the road this summer with special guest Eve. There’s also the rumor the Gwen and Blake are going to tie the knot soon. As always, I am happy for Gwake, but I hope they take their time with the relationship and enjoy what they’ve got.

I love the front of the dress, but agree the back is a letdown. Reminds me of those inexpensive development houses where the front is very elaborate and the back is a windowless wall.

  2. Anastasia Beaverhausen says:

    They’re cute.

  3. teatimeiscoming says:

Don’t marry your rebound, Gwen! At least get a very, very solid pre-nup. 🙁

  4. vauvert says:

I find the dress terrible, the fishnets outdated and the black stilettos a bore. She has done the pouffy pompadour hairstyle so many times, nothing new there, and I know the red lip is her trademark look but I wonder at what point she’ll reconsider her choices; I find both the blonde colour in that shade and that lipstick really harsh. It can look great on a twenty year old, but it is increasingly looking overdone on a mature woman. (It has nothing to do with ageism, it’s just nature. You don’t look as dewy faced at 45 as you do at half that age.)

I don’t get it, I hate the blonde hair and red lip. At least mix it up. But yeah, that blonde is not flattering.

Corey, I like your posts, I really do! (mainly CHems’ post). Can we please stop covering Gwen for the next month? At this point, I cannot even look at a photo of her without cringing.

      +1.
      Pleaaaaaaase have mercy!
I don’t find the dress too bad, but the outfit she is wearing while performing (?) is embarrassing.

    • Kitten says:

Yes this is how I feel as well. Hard to believe how uncool she’s become.

      • MC2 says:

Kitten- +1. I’m at a loss sometimes when I see her with the Voice crowd. I thought she was a kick a$$ rock star but now she reminds me of an evening consisting of pizza before a bath, elmo book & bedtime. Not a bad evening but definitely not rock star.

  6. Dena says:

I like Gwen and the dress she’s wearing but she needs a new look.

  7. AlmondJoy says:

Well… I guess it’s better than what she usually wears. I like it.

  8. Magnoliarose says:

I like the front and I’m assuming they only meant for the front to be photographed. She looks good and I don’t mind Gwake as much as others do. We no longer have to look at that washed up a-hole she was married to and that is a plus. I do wonder what she hinted about in her interview that made him shut up and drop his money grab attempt.

Her neice is adorable. i love her cowboy boots and child appropriate little outfit.

Not feeling the mini mouse Disney get up for the stage though.

    • Petee says:

He is bi.Nothing wrong with that but it ruined her marriage. The nanny is taking the heat but it has nothing to do with her.

  9. cleveland girl says:

That dress is hideous and it looks so uncomfortable and dated. Hair and makeup are the same as always….

  10. Lucy2 says:

The back really ruins the dress.
And I think they might be throwing the word “hero” around a bit loosely.

  11. SilkyMalice says:

    Horrible. All of it.

  12. annaloo. says:

Aww. I think her look is perfect for Disney! I love the modified, weird, Tweedledum/tweedledee outfit thingy too.

Also, is anyone here following her Snapchat? It’ kind of surprising how boring it is. I mean, Gwen Stefani! Come on!

  13. iheartgossip says:

Poor Gwen. So many bad choices over the past 18 months.

  14. Amanda G says:

The dress is okay…at least it’s appropriate for the event. I love her hair. I’m glad Blake and her have cut back on the PDA and hopefully they are moving past the teenage/honeymoon phase of their relationship. It is strange that Gwen received the Hero award, but she was probably the only one who said yes LOL

I find it funny that people rip apart Gwen’s look but say nothing of how Pharrell looks! is this event in Compton circa 1992? LOL

  15. velourazure says:

Gwen is the living embodiment of a behavior that has been proven common amongst women – that we often tend to downplay our accomplishments. Just once I would love to hear her say “thank you for this award, I’ve worked really hard for a long time and it’s nice to be recognized”. Instead of “This is crazy that this is happening to me! I never thought, I mean who am I, that I would ever make a difference?”

I never hear men give acceptance speeches like that.

    • Amanda G says:

Yeah and then people would be saying she’s arrogant LOL She definitely has a low self esteem, but in this case, I think she just wants to come across as humble and she’s truly thankful for the life she has had. She knows she’s 46 and very lucky to still be somewhat relevant.

  16. Steph S says:

I have never liked Gwen, not her style, her music, or her persona, but that dress is actually the least offensive thing I’ve seen her wear recently. What’s with the diaper shorts? (Diorts?)

Caught the rerun of her on SNL this weekend and I had to mute it first when she was singing the “space pants” song with Peter Dinklage (whom I love and his part of that song cracked me up) and again when she was performing that g*ddamn “Make Me Like You” song. She is seriously cringe inducing.
