Victoria Beckham on more Vogue covers: ‘I’m a bit of an old bag now’

Victoria Beckham is over the hill. At least, that’s what Picky herself thinks. While attending the Vogue 100: A Century of Style exhibition, Picky confessed that she is convinced every magazine cover she is asked to do is her last because she is over forty and the mother of four.

It’s seen as a badge of honour to be chosen as a Vogue cover model.

But despite the prestige that goes with it, Victoria Beckham, 42, joked she may have already featured on her final cover, when speaking to Claudia Winkleman, 44, at the Vogue 100: A Century of Style exhibition inside the National Portrait Gallery on Thursday.

According to The Sun, the fashion designer told Claudia: ‘When I hear another Vogue cover has come up, I always say, “This is the last one, because I’m a bit of an old bag now. Surely this is the last one? I’m 42, I’ve got four kids”.’

A representative for Victoria told MailOnline that the mother-of-four was ‘clearly joking’ in her comments and that she has ‘plenty of cover shoots under discussion for the future, Vogue and otherwise.’

The former Spice Girl, who’s appeared on the cover of British Vogue three times, most recently featured in the brand’s Chinese edition.

As has been discussed on this site plenty of times, Picky has never been on the cover of American Vogue. Clearly Anna Wintour has a soft spot for the Beckhams but constantly passes over Picky as her cover model. Is she just saving face by ‘predicting’ that she won’t see another cover? As the article suggests, Picky has several covers being discussed but this begs the question as to how well those discussions are going?

In additional Picky news, she recently revealed (confirmed?) that they didn’t let her sing in concert with the Spice Girls. According to her, the tour organizers used to turn her mic off and let the others do the heavy lifting.

Victoria Beckham reveals she’s lip-synched during her Spice Girls days, but it wasn’t her fault!

“They used to turn it off and just let the others sing,” the singer-turned-fashion designer told The Telegraph when she attended the Vogue 100: A Century of Style exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery in London on Thursday.

“I got the last laugh – and now my mic is well and truly on, finally,” Beckham, 42, jokingly added.

[From People]

Picky recently admitted she had the largest clothing budget of the group, because she didn’t care for the free clothing the rest of the girls were given. Since she had little to do beyond wiggle about in heels, she used her outfits to stand out, which she cites as how her obsession with fashion began. She also claimed to be the cautious one of the group, looking out for the others, “When all the other girls were being fun and spontaneous and jumping on tables, I was always the one checking the table wasn’t going to collapse. I was always the sensible one.” I am having a hard time applying the word “sensible” to Picky, especially when she adorns motorcycle helmets with jewels.

Oh my God – it’s almost a smile!

That header photo is odd. Like she’s trying to use facial muscles, but unsure how to do so.

  2. Karen says:

She has been on the cover of US Vogue. But she was sharing it with the Spice Girls.

I think she wants more covers (especially a solo US Vogue). Just like she searching for a compliment and wants people to say she isn’t an old bag.

It must be so hard to be Victoria Beckham. Boo-hoo.

I actually do believe it’s hard and feel sorry for her. She’s a walking neurosis, and at the age when she should be pretty comfortable with herself too. She’s a grown ass woman with a family and a great business but inside she’s still a self-conscious teenager whose biggest fear is looking bad in a picture. I obviously wouldn’t mind her money but if it came with her self-esteem I’d honestly pass. No amount of money is better than being comfortable in your own skin.

You might be on to something there. On the other hand, I find her comments give me a pleasant impression of her. She seems quite humble, no? That’s how she’s consistently struck me. Including in this one, referring to herself as an old bag. That’s a riot. She doesn’t seem to have huge delusions about herself. I bet she’s fun to hang out with.

  4. Bridget says:

Why is she being called “Picky”?

I like VB. She’s kind of ridiculous, but I respect the fact that she’s worked incredibly hard, and in every story you hear about folks meeting her in person she’s kind and wryly funny.

    • Easypeasy123 says:

      I like her too

    • dAsh says:

I like her too and I like her clothing line. Remember that reality show she had when the Beckhams moved to America? She was ridiculous but hilarious in that show.

    • Hecate says:

I call her Picky for Posh + Vicky.

Believe it or not, it is actually a sign of my affection – I adore Picky.

      • joanne says:

i’m glad you clarified that. like others, i have a real soft spot for her. i think she is such a good mother.

    • Susan says:

I adore her too. Love her sense of humor and self deprecation. Keep the picky posts coming!!

    • Magnoliarose says:

I like her too. It takes a lot to change careers and do it well. Her clothes are very well designed and mostly sensible things a woman wants to wear.

  5. Teatimeiscoming says:

    Yeah I wondered that myself

  6. prissa says:

I like her clothing line – not that I can afford it but the pieces I’ve seen are very nice.

Does anyone have background on why she’s never been on US Vogue? What is the bad blood between her and Wintour (if there is any?)?

Unbelievable that Kim K has been on US Vogue (albeit with Kanye & North) and not Posh Spice.

  7. anniefannie says:

I’ve always liked her too! She was very self aware and hilarious during her reality show. Add to that she’s got great style & legitimate connections to fashion unlike another reality constant, I can’t see any reason why Wintour would exclude her, unless it’s personal and if that’s the case it’s a wonder why Vogue is losing its street cred….

  8. TheSage says:

    Posh + Vicky

  9. Magnoliarose says:

Anna Wintour has been withholding the cover from her on purpose. It’s a “thing” she has crafted because she didn’t believe Posh belonged in the fashion world as a designer and she doesn’t usually support British women who aren’t from the upper class. Back in the day Posh was considered a tacky footballer’s wife and was closed out of the inner circle. I also think Wintour is still holding it against Posh that she didn’t wait to be anointed by her first. She considers herself the Queen of the fashion Brits in America.
There is a theory that she champions the K crew because she thinks she’s so powerful she can make them legitimate by force. Like a pet project to prove she’s still the tastemaker she had been once. What better way than to take people who most of the public find repulsive and turn it around. I’m sure she enjoys sticking it to Posh and twisting the knife a bit.
I bet it bothers Picky more than she lets on.

    • Bridget says:

I kind of miss tacky footballer’s wife Posh. The boobs, the tan, the hair!

    • Betsy says:

If that were real, I would despise Anna Wintour. I have an irrational love of Victoria Beckham (despite the facts that she would look aghast at my large unkemptness).

  10. Lucy says:

The mic thing makes me feel bad for her, it seems so rude to me! Anyway, still like her a whole lot.

  11. Starkiller says:

Why would she (or anyone, really) WANT to be on the cover of US Vogue? It’s certainly nowhere near as coveted as a Vogue Paris, or Vogue Italia, or even British Vogue. Isn’t it roughly akin to making te cover of US Weekly?

  12. Palar says:

Giving someone a nickname on top of a nickname doesn’t work IMO. Lets just stick with Posh.

    • Blair Warner says:

Agreed, thank you! She is known as Posh or Victoria or even VB already. Please don’t call her “Picky”.

  13. slimkeith says:

That picture where she’s coming out of a restaurant, holding her coat, wearing only a dress is hysterical. It was taken during the height of the winter in NYC when the temperature was in the mid-teen’s..The rest of her family was wearing winter coats..she’s consumed by her image.. She would eat her fav pair of shoes for the cover of American Vogue.
