Johnny Depp ‘has no plans to return to LA, everyone is trying to cheer him up’

Ever since the Hollywood Vampires’ European tour wrapped up two weeks ago, Johnny Depp has been chilling out (possibly drying out) at his private island in the Bahamas. Even though the restraining order hearing was postponed at the very last minute, Depp was still due in court in LA one week ago and he never showed up. He never even flew in. He just let his lawyer, Laura Wasser, handle everything, including the request for a postponement. So what is Depp doing on his private island? Well, his daughter just visited him and Vanessa Paradis and Jack are due to visit soon. Other than that, it just seems like he’s calling up People Magazine to feed them some quotes about how there’s nothing for him in LA.

Johnny Depp’s daughter Lily-Rose Depp has visited him in the Bahamas as he plans to remain on his private island amid his divorce from Amber Heard.

“He has no plans to return to L.A.,” a source tells PEOPLE of the actor. “He misses nothing about L.A. but his kids, and they are visiting him in the Bahamas.” According to the source, his daughter Lily-Rose Depp, 17, has already visited him on the island, and his son Jack, 14, is expected to arrive with his mother, Vanessa Paradis, in a few days.

“Having his kids around is always great for him. He has really missed his kids,” the source says, adding that Depp has also had friends “flying back and forth for visits” to the island. “He likes being surrounded by people and everyone is trying to cheer him up.”

The actor has been staying on the island since concluding the European half of his tour with his band, The Hollywood Vampires. Depp avoided making a return to L.A. when a hearing to extend Heard’s temporary restraining order was pushed to August.

“Johnny was very nervous about the court date,” the source says. “He really didn’t want to return to L.A. for court. He was very relieved that his lawyer was able to figure things out for now.”

According to the source, Depp hopes to settle the divorce out of court. “He doesn’t talk badly about Amber and just wants to move on,” the source adds. Depp will return to the U.S. in July to continue his concert tour with The Hollywood Vampires. “He seems excited about the concerts,” says the source.

[From People]

“Everyone is trying to cheer him up” because obviously, he’s the victim here. He feels so bad. He’s so down in the dumps because he physically and emotionally abused his wife. Poor Johnny! And this: “Johnny was very nervous about the court date” – but if Amber was just a golddigging, hateful person who was lying about him, why would he be so nervous? And yes, I do think that Depp wants to settle at this point. He’s gotten enough of a preview of Amber’s case against him and he’s seen just how badly he underestimated her. NOW he wants to pay her to go away.

As for paying her to go away, Team Amber came back with the normal tit-for-tat that we’ve come to expect. E! News ran a piece about how Amber was “willing and ready to be deposed” last week and “She was ready to go. She is ready to testify, and she is just waiting [to do so].” As Team Amber keeps saying, she wants her day in court. So if she does settle, it will likely be on her terms completely.

Dear God…..I don’t know if JD will make it to the end of negotiations with Amber! He looks like death!

    • Esmom says:

I know, I flinch every time I see that thumbnail photo.

      • Celeste Guillen says:

Obviously she was bored right from the beginning. She would have supported his band but hated it.

    • The Original G says:

So, I’m not a Depp supporter, but I did want to point out that this photo is from a performance of Hollywood Vampires. He’s in make-up.

      • Wren says:

It’s not the makeup, it’s what is under it. The ghastly color could be the lighting and whatever makeup he’s wearing, but the bloat? The awful skin texture? The blank eyes?

      • Esmom says:

        Yes, what Wren said.

      • Lahdidahbaby says:

The make-up is not the problem — he has long worn eyeliner — it’s the bloated, puffy face and the putty-like skin. He looks very unwell in a dissipated sort of way.

  2. Insomniac says:

“He doesn’t talk badly about Amber.” Oh no, he just has all his flunkies and lapdogs do it for him. Please.

  3. Sender says:

Cheer him up by sending him to rehab and putting him on a Vegan diet for a while.

  4. Flowerchild says:

What happed to Johnny spending the summer in France with the kids?

My guess is that France didn’t offer Johnny the “privacy” he wanted to do what ever he please. On his private island in the Bahamas he has free range and no media.

His lawyer probably suggested that Johnny say on his private island after the drunken hotel pictures.

    • Kiliki says:

      YES Flowerchild.

I AM SO PROUD OF AMBER!!!

      • Flowerchild says:

Yes I too am proud of Amber for not backing down and wanting her day in court. That right there shows she telling the truth, but I guess some people would rather just bury their heads in the sand then see the truth.

    • Don't kill me I'm French says:

He didn’t come in France for 3 years at least

      • Flowerchild says:

I’m taking about the first statement his PR people made to “People magazine” that Johnny plans to spend the Summer in France with his kids.

The odd thing was right after the photos came out of Johnny drunk in front of the hotel he disappeared and went to the Bahamas or so his people say.

    • Wren says:

He’s his own worst enemy and his lawyer is well aware of that fact. I’d send him away too, if only to ensure bad publicity doesn’t keep pouring in from his continued poor decisions. And I’m sure he’s very happy surrounded by people who kiss his butt and believe his version of Evil Harlot Amber persecuting Poor Little Johnny.

Yes, poor little Johnny. Amber didn’t end up being the obedient arm candy you expected, did she? Boo f-ing hoo.

      • Kiliki says:

Wren, the only reason you should care is because of Wasser. Like I said, people underestimate her.

Otherwise I agree with you on everything else. I do not thing she is this “bad person” though. I do not, that’s why I said what I said about her fighting spirit. THAT matters.

  5. Locke Lamora says:

Aaaaaw, did punching the living shit out if his wife made little Johnny a bit sad? I’m barely containg my tears, I feel so sorry for him.

His mother died, he has major drug and booze problems and I do feel bad for him, but he can’t play the victim here.

    • Kiliki says:

Yeah. No more enablers, Johnny. No more.

Amber had hope and love and trust, learning the hard way love doesn’t always conquer all. She had no idea how bad it would get again- much like Denise with Charlie Sheen.

Laura Wasser is going to try to spin this but it won’t work because Amber is standing strong.

She may look frail, but she has a warrior spirit.

      • Wren says:

I don’t even care if Amber had none of those things and married him for pure personal gain. He is deeply in the wrong and should face consequences. It’s irrelevant if Amber loved him or not, he abused her and his woe is poor little me routine is wearing very thin.

    • Lahdidahbaby says:

Yep, you’re so right about poor Johnny. It’s SOOO depressing to be a wife-beater. And even MORE depressing when the world finds out about it.

  6. K37744 says:

If I did something heinous that I deeply regretted, if want it to ‘go away’ too.

Doesn’t work like that, little fella.

In the immortal words of Winona Ryder: “Lick it up baby. Lick. It. Up.”

    • Kiliki says:

      Lick it good.

    • stinky says:

Winona wasn’t impressed with his midlife shenanigans either… she had words.

      • Helena says:

Really? I don’t remember her saying anything.

      • Shockadelica81 says:

That was at phony tabloid story that claimed that Winona wasn’t happy about his midlife crisis and refused to work with him again. They probably haven’t seen each other in 20+years! And who said they wanted to work together again anyway? Tabloids😂😂

      • stinky says:

oh wow – really?? that makes sense i suppose cuz Winona stays mum about most things after all…

  7. cindy says:

It seems so trite so type “good for you Amber”, but I have to because she really has guts. I don’t know what will become of her acting career once this is over, but I do know she has been vilified and called every name there is for going up against the great JD. The stress shows in her weight loss. You rock Amber.

And than there’s JD who doesn’t even have the balls to deal with anything at all. So unlike Amber he hides away behind a wall of people protecting him. Coward.

    • Kiliki says:

I’ve always known she has guts 🙂

She’s from my town and a little younger, but she is soft AND strong. I’m so deeply proud.

    • Mia4s says:

Sadly from a career standpoint I think you are right that she will suffer. In fairness she’s not a strong actress, at all. From a fame standpoint she really hasn’t had much success. The being a side character in Aquaman will help a bit but unless she’s extraordinary in it she’s going to be easily dismissed because the suits will feel there is too much “negativity” surrounding her.

“But there’s negativity around Depp right now!”, you say. You’re right, but he has literally billions in box office in his history. It would restore some of my faith if the negativity actually stuck to him….but I doubt it will.

      • Kiliki says:

Not necessarily, Mia. Have you seen how much Brad Pitt has improved as an actor? He was around the same age when he began. Night and day.

        This may make her stronger.

      • sandy says:

I don’t get why ppl say she’s not a good actress. She was amazing in North County and The Ward. Also that Indie where her friend gets kidnapped. I love her as an actress. Just wondering have u guys actually watched her stuff?

    • Wren says:

By many accounts she’s not a super wonderful actor, so I’m actually kinda hoping she finds success in another medium if the expected backlash comes to pass. It would surprise me if she had much of a Hollywood career left after this, which is wrong and terrible but also probably reality.

It would be great if she could come out unscathed, but even standing up for herself has majorly rocked the boat. I don’t see the those (men) in power just letting her go about her business after such a “transgression” against the system. Anyhoo, I hope she prospers in some way and doesn’t turn into “whatever happened to her”, or worse, just vanishes.

  8. Luca76 says:

All I can say is good on Vanessa for supervising his visit with Jack. I would not let a 14 year old be alone with someone in his state.

  9. lisa2 says:

I have no doubt that Johnny is not planning on returning to LA.. very clear to me.

  10. Eleonor says:

I think people here forget one important thing: abuser can be charming, really really charming.

    • Wren says:

I think it goes beyond forgetting into willfully ignoring that fact. Otherwise it’s too scary to contemplate. When terrible things happen, like domestic violence, people try to put as much distance as they can between what happened to the other person and their lives. “I would have left long ago! Actually, I would have seen him for the abusive asshole that he is and never got involved! Whew, I’m safe.”

It’s the same reason people jumped all over the parents of the kid snatched by the alligator, and the kid who got into the gorilla enclosure. Losing their children is every parent’s worst fear, so being able to tell themselves that they would have done better makes these events less scary.

I’m not saying it’s right, it’s quite the opposite in fact. But it is human and we need to confront it as such.

    • Ican't says:

Yes people love tell stories about how nice he is, and how they have meet him and was great with the local when filming.

People forget or ignore he and others can nice to outsides and go home and be a completely different person.

  11. Hazel says:

Probably afraid he’d be arrested if he returned to LA.

  12. Bitchy architect says:

Have Winona or Kate chimed in to support JD in any way? If in fact they haven’t said anything in support of him, I think their silence actually says a lot . I wish more A listers would come out in support of Amber.
Isn’t AJ teaching a class on DV at the London School of Economics? She worked with Johhny, i would so love for her to say something in support.

    • stinky says:

Winona wasn’t impressed with his midlife shenanigans …she had words… but I haven’t hard anything recent from her.

    • Dlo says:

This! How many women, A list or not, knew about him? If so, and not speaking out, then shame on them!

      • Flowerchild says:

        @Dlo

Abusers usaly keep their true selves shield from of their friends, family, and co workers it’s easy to play the victim that way and manipulate the narrative that way.

So I don’t think any woman / man A lister or not knew about his abusive ways.

      • Lady D says:

I think they knew, they just chose to pretend they didn’t. Makes their lives more comfortable don’cha know?
Think Kris Jenner ever wonders or wishes there was something she could have done or said to help her friend Nicole Brown Simpson? Now for the really big question, would PMK ignore violence towards her daughters if it made money?

      • Flowerchild says:

        @ Lady D

Who are these A lister that you believe knew?

I disagree Amber friends knew, but they couldn’t make her leave him or go to the police until she was ready. Friends and family who do know don’t ignore the situation, but are helpless to do anything. You can tell someone to leave a abusive relationship give them money and a place to stay, but you can’t make them leave. It’s wrong to point fingers unless the person knew and covered it up and protected the abuser.

      • Lady D says:

It was JD’s friends knowing about his abuse I was talking about, not Amber’s. Sorry if that wasn’t clear.

    • Flowerchild says:

The only people coming out to defend Johnny are his user friend and people who enable him.

Helena Bonham Carter, Tim Burton, Keith Richards and so on have stayed quiet

      • Helena says:

Tim Burton was publicly pictured with him in Romania (I think?) earlier this month. So he’s supporting him.

  13. TreadStyle says:

Every time I see this photo of Johnny Depp it literally haunts my dreams. Terrifying. I think this next to an old pic of how he use to look could totally be used as a “this is why you don’t do drugs. This is what drugs do to you.” PSA.

    • Shockadelica81 says:

When he and Amber first got together was still a looker! But in the last few years his decades long addictions finally caught up to his looks and brain.

  14. Dibba says:

He’s supposed to perform in Atlantic City July 4th weekend.

  15. Raquel says:

I wonder if he forgets and just can’t believe it of himself. I have an ex like that. He assumed I was lying to him…about him, because he “would never.”

Chances are if your partner says you abused them when you were drunk, you did.

  16. Cirque28 says:

JD probably told himself he was going to his island to get clean. OTOH, it’s a place he can indulge in peace. So I picture him doing a bit of both (using drugs and trying to stop using drugs) while simultaneously thinking of ‘brilliant’ ways he can manage his addictions going forward, e.g.: “maybe if I snort a small bump of cocaine just in the mornings to get going, heroin only on weekends, and ONLY drink after 7 pm, everything will be OK.”

I doubt Johnny will ever make old bones.

  17. Shockadelica81 says:

He has no plans to come back to LA? AKA: A man who’s been running away from his problems for decades and can’t bare to face them? A lot of his addictions and abuse happened in LA so of course he doesn’t want to go back! He’d rather just sit around on his island listening to people kiss his ass and make excuses for him like they have been. And why would he be nervous about court if his wife and her friends set him up and are lying and perjuring themselves? And he doesn’t have anything bad to say about Amber? Even after she used him,set him up, and is now accusing him of abuse and addictions? Oh I forgot how sweet, gentle, and kind he is.That’s why!😞😕

Obviously he’s afraid of what Amber and her witnesses are going to say about him in court. He needs to come clean about what he did and seek help and forgiveness instead getting a tan on his island. But I doubt he thinks he has a problem and he can just stop his abuse and addictions anytime without help.

  18. Calico Cat says:

Who is that Zombie Johnny Cash in the pictures? He looks familiar!

  19. Rose of Sharon says:

    Celebitchy:

You were right to believe the abuse Ms. Heard said she suffered. She may not even tell people the half of it. We believe Mr. Depp is very ill. Some of you compassionate, intelligent, and observant commenters have noticed Mr. Depp’s dead eyes. The eyes are the window to the soul, and the soul resides in the frontal lobe, also known as the Seat of Civilization.

  20. lisa2 says:

I wonder if he is doing some kind of out patient Rehab.

  21. what's inside says:

I think he is trying to clean up away from scrutiny in order to be able to appear in court. He is not stupid, but is caught up in denial that he has significant problems that can and will eventually kill him. He is exhausting his body and his mind by unhealthy living, being coddled and enabled by sycophants who depend on him for a living, and does not want to change one thing about his life because it has provided him with entitlement, excesses, and carte blanche to be able to live exactly as he wants. This is going to end badly.

  22. Mo2 says:

The photo you used on the front page makes him look like the monster in Frankenstein. Actually I think he would be great in a remake.
