Malia Obama went to a raging party in Martha’s Vineyard, the police were called

Malia Obama might be having her best summer ever. She graduated from high school, took a cool trip to Liberia, Morocco and Spain with her mom, twerked at Lollapalooza, and possibly smoked a joint on the not-so-DL. Best summer ever! Currently, Malia is vacationing with her family in Martha’s Vineyard, which has become an annual thing for the Obamas. This might even be their last summer vacation at the Vineyard, so Malia and Sasha are making the most of it. Sasha is working the register at a seafood joint, but I don’t think Malia has a fun summer job. No, she’s just on holiday, going to raging college parties.

Malia Obama isn’t about to let a vacation with Mom and Dad stop her from partying like a pro. According to the Boston Herald, the first daughter, who seems to have a well-developed eye for a good night out, attended a party on Martha’s Vineyard that ended up getting shut down by the cops.

The paper claimed the “rowdy” shindig in sleepy West Tisbury — where the first family is spending its annual summer trip — was closed down because of noise complaints, but that “Malia, of course, was escorted home by her Secret Service squad, who, we’re told, got her outta there right quick when the heat showed up!”

The local cops wouldn’t confirm to Page Six that Malia was among the revelers, but admitted that there was a “routine noise complaint” at a house on the night in question, and when officers asked the owners to shut it down, “they complied.” Sources told us the party was thrown by some college kids on vacation. The White House didn’t get back to us.

[From Page Six]

Considering this kind of thing happened to me once a month while I was in college, I don’t think it’s particularly notable except for Malia’s presence. College parties can be noisy, and of course the police come out every so often to tell the kids to turn it down and disperse. What’s funny to me is that Secret Service was like “THE FUZZ IS HERE, SCATTER!” Like, the Secret Service agents aren’t there to “parent” Malia. They let her do her thing and protect her, even if it’s from the police.

Leave it to the Herald to turn the standard college-age party routine noise complaint into a scandalous event

    • Tate says:

Lol, right?? Oh Malia, I do not envy you. Lord knows I would not have wanted my every move for the world to see when I was 18.

    • lilacflowers says:

Here is the article from last week’s Herald. Gayle Fee admits right i the article that she has no confirmation from the cops that Malia was even at the party. Just that the party was in the same town where the Obamas are staying.

      http://www.bostonherald.com/entertainment/inside_track/2016/08/did_cops_kick_out_party_girl_malia

Gayle has been known to make up stories, especially unflattering ones about political families who don’t share the Herald’s right-wing leanings. She has a really negative piece today about the Obamas going out for dinner and tying up traffic when people were trying to view decorated houses during Illumination Night. Because thousands of people driving through tiny streets to look at houses with lights never causes traffic jams. It must be Obama’s fault.

      • tmot says:

Of course it’s Obama’s fault! Thanks, Obama.

How soon do we get to say, “Thanks, Hillary”? I am waiting! 😉

      • Emily says:

Nice, but it just doesn’t have the same ring as “Thanks, Obama!” (which can so easily be turned into “Thanks, Obummer!”) I wonder what they’ll come up with for Hillary.

    • Skyblue says:

My 30th class reunion was shut down by the cops due to noise complaints. Nothing more raucous than a bunch of middle-age men and women howling to karaoke 80’s music in your neighborhood at midnight. We just packed up and moved the party to a bar.

  2. Tiffany says:

Whoa, whoa some teenager is partying like she got 4 months before she has to move. Zero to give. Zero to give.

    • doofus says:

I can’t imagine being at a party where the secret service was present. weird.

but agree with you, a college-bound teen being at a party that got broken up by cops is not news.

  3. HH says:

I like her classy one piece/romper. I think it’d be very cute with a nice cardigan (speaking for myself, since I’m almost a decade older than her). Are we expecting Malia to have no fun? Or, maybe just board game nights? Like, can she live?

  4. OSTONE says:

One of the college parties I went to was busted by cops. I had yet to turn 21 so we ran and hid at another apartment but it scared the sh*t out of me haha. I never drank again at a party until I turned 21. Lesson learned!

  5. aquarius64 says:

The Bush twins partied like rock stars but the first AA first daughter will be judged more harshly.

    • ladysussex says:

I remember when Jenna Bush was all over the news and the topic of every discussion board when she tried to order a margarita in a restaurant before she was 21. Can we please not turn this into a racial issue?

      • mellie says:

Agree X1000! Jenna Bush was raked over the coals repeatedly for this..still is. Leave her alone and leave poor Malia alone.

      • Lucky jane says:

Thank you. There is enough real racism and ugliness in the world without inventing more. And of course those people in opposite political parties are going to judge the children of others. That’s what they’ve always done even before Obama. And yes, there is nothing wrong with this girl living her life and it is no one’s business. I wasn’t an Obama supporter but his kids’ lives are their own. They sound completely normal. I am sure they will be fine.

      • Bettyrose says:

I didn’t care about the Bush twins partying either, but I felt like there was more hypocrisy there. Screaming about family values and religious restrictions they don’t practice themselves. But college kids need to explore their own limits. Party, drink, have sex, whatever. It’s college.

      • Kitten says:

I actually agree with you, and I always felt kind of bad for the Bush twins. I wish the media and people in general wouldn’t come for the children of presidents or any parent who happens to have a high public profile, actually.

    • DIrty Martini says:

THere was plenty of trash talking about the Bush girls’ college antics. Particularly Jenna…..who has turned into a lovely woman as has her sister….as no doubt will Malia and Sasha. Disagree with political platforms and political parents all you want, but please don’t twist this into a work of fiction. Under age kids of POTUS all pretty much get the same scrutiny and same discussion points. Unfortunately for all of them.

    • lisa says:

i still see both bush twins dragged over 1 of them trying to order a drink at age 20

it is ridiculous to criticize them and malia both

      • Jwoolman says:

I think the Bush twins actually went through a heavy drinking phase, which was a big part of the reason for the bad publicity. They seemed to survive and turn out all right, though. At some point you can’t really blame the parentals, fledglings have to learn how to fly on their own (hopefully avoiding predators, but I imagine the presence of Secret Service is a comfort to the parentals).

    • Josie says:

I suppose it depends on the audience, but Jenna and Barbara Bush took a lot of heat from late-night comics and the press for their antics at this age, too. It goes with the territory; luckily, it’s not likely to hurt Malia any more than it hurt the Bush daughters.

    • Adele Dazeem says:

I also remember when the media made so much fun of poor Chelsea Clinton and how “awkward” she was, and “not attractive” like her dad. Okay she was kind of gawky with her glasses and braces and unstyled hair but who would want to live their awkward pre teen years out in the eyes of the world media. Shudder.

      • Bettyrose says:

The criticism of Chelsea was obscene. She was an awkward preteen who hadn’t done anything to call attention to herself. This Malia coverage is ridiculous, but it’s not the full blown bullying Chelsea endured as a young child.

      • Sarah says:

Rush Limbaugh talked about the Clinton’s dog – Chelsea. She was 12. The media was always worse with the Clintons.,

    • Lady Mimosa says:

The Obamas had an agreement with the press, not to cover any stories, I gues that is over now. Michelle got a blog to retract a strong about Malia two years ago.

    • Syd says:

That’s crap. As long as there are people such as you comparing BOTH sides get bullied.

  6. Natalie says:

    Man, Sasha is a knockout.

Malia seems like a good kid. She’ll be fine.

    • Esmom says:

I think they’re both knockouts and I love their personal styles.

ITA that Malia will be fine. She and Sasha seem refreshingly “normal” given how atypical their upbringing has been the past 8 years.

    • Ruth Dunbar says:

They’re both adorable but I agree that Sasha is really growing up to be a stunner. I’m more than old enough to be her mother but I always like seeing what she wears.

  7. Artemis says:

Let her live. Glad she can be a teenager, must be extra hard when you’re dad is the effing president!

  8. Linds says:

Hell, I didn’t wait till college to do that stuff! She’s a normal young lady, really. A lot of teenagers party, shake their ass to music, and even smoke the devil’s lettuce! Shocker! Not a lot of them go to Ivy League schools though or carry themselves as well as Malia does on a daily basis. Let the girl live while she’s still young!

    • ladysussex says:

Really! I really wish the media would give her (and all teenaged children of presidents) a pass, at least for a few years! She’s a normal teenager!

    • Locke Lamora says:

While I’m sure she is very smart and completely deserved her place, was there ever a chance of her not going to an Ivy League school? I mean, she’s the president’s daughter. Bush went to Yale and he’s thick as a planck.

      • kaiko says:

Ivy League education=Parental donation, aka $$$$
However, Malia is probably quite smart, she went to an excellent school that I could only dream of sending my kids too, and her parents are obviously intelligent people who care about her upbringing and education.
And if you don’t like the Bush era policies or the ridiculous wars that are still being propped up by our gov’t in the ME, like most sane people in this world, that’s cool–I’m right there with ya. But GW never struck me as unintelligent, just an unpretentious, affable dude with a thick Texan accent.

    • Tiffany :) says:

      “smoke the devil’s lettuce”

      Bwhahahaha!!! So funny!

  9. HK9 says:

In my world, it’s not a real party until the police show up. 🙂

  10. Mousyb says:

These are such non-scandals. She went to one of the most exclusive challenging high schools in the country, did amazingly well, is going to Harvard, and is more well traveled than any of us will ever be at 18 years old. Let her LIVEE. Were any of these people writing these non-stories ever 18?? Christ….America’s puritan culture is still alive and well.

  11. Miss Jupitero says:

Piffle…. this is so tame. 🙂 Where are the bongs? The clouds of marijuana smoke? the naked golf cart rides? The curious sofa and the broken chandelier?

Still… Malia may become our Prince Harry. I like her. I hope what remains of her summer is awesome.

  12. Locke Lamora says:

I’ve never been to a party that’s been busted by the police, but then again, calling the police because of noise isn’t really a thing here. No matter how loud your neighbours are, calling the police on them seems over the top. I’d probably be terrified if I was at a party and the police showed up.
The President’s kids rarely get mentioned in the media here, not even our own ( I dont know what my President’s kids look like, I barely know how her husband looks like), amd especially not foreign ones. So, which president had the wildest kids?

    • Tina says:

I don’t think it gets any wilder than Jeb Bush, so I’m going to go for GHWB. (In reality, probably GWB’s twins were the wildest, but JFK Jr knew how to party as well).

    • Betsy says:

No, it is not over the top to call on a loud party. Homeowners have the legal right to enjoy their home in relative quiet.

    • Valois says:

“No matter how loud your neighbours are, calling the police on them seems over the top.”

I disagree with you on that. Our neighbours were having a really loud party in june because they were done with their exams. Most people in our area (incl me and my housemates) attend a different uni and said party was in the first week of exams for us.
They even hired a DJ and there were around 40 people partying on the street at 2 am because their house was too small. We went over several times to tell them that we were not okay with it and that we’d complain to the city council and they didn’t seem to care. Eventually the police showed up because so many people filled a noise complaint and that was the only way to stop this party.

  13. Squiggisbig says:

The real victim here is Sasha. Toiling away at some seafood joint while Malia is twerking her way to the best summer ever.

    • Neelyo says:

      Seriously

    • DIrty Martini says:

Ha! I was thinking the same thing !

    • tracking says:

Ha, this. Maybe Malia gets to take the summer off to celebrate HS graduation before she starts working in the fall for her gap year.

    • holly hobby says:

      Haha! That comment is gold!

    • me says:

Sasha only worked at the Seafood place for a week. It was just a one week job. I’m not sure what the purpose of that was or what she could have possibly learned in just a week but whatever.

      • Cricket says:

I was wondering that too.. I thought maybe it was a punishment for something.. I don’t see Michelle as a pushover type mom, could have been a ‘lesson’. LOL. I think Sasha is more of the Prince Harry in the family, I can see her letting loose and having fun. (side note, WOW! When did Sasha get so tall?!) Malia always seems like the quiet one but then you know what they say about the quiet ones -they are the ones to look out for.

I agree with all the ladies above that the girls – kids of the POTUS should all be off limits – regardless of party – and let them be teenagers. I’m glad the girls are able to get out and have a real life, after all, they didn’t choose this life to be in the spotlight.

      • PimmsCupInAPimpCup says:

I do not! discuss president’s kids, whether they barhop or party or bop a dignitary in the knees with a golf cart (I’m old enough to remember the press’ dealings with Amy Carter) but I have to say; I’m fond of Sasha. There’s an honesty to her face I appreciate.
You know there are times she does not want to be at a weird public function, but she keeps calm and carries on.

  14. joanne says:

does anyone know where the dress is from in the top photo? it’s gorgeous.

  15. Luca76 says:

I knew a Secret Service worker a few years back he was way too much of a pro to gossip but I wonder what they must see on these kinds of details. She deserves to have fun and just be a kid and I’m sure she’ll settle down get a great job and be just as respectable as the Bush twins are now.

    • Cricket says:

I remember a story about Jenna Bush attending a Radiohead concert with her Secret Service detail. Could you imagine? What a job.. guessing like being the security guards for Princes William and Harry.. the stories they could tell!

  16. QQ says:

LEAVE THIS YOUNG WOMAN TF ALONE!!! *Hissing*

  17. Nicole says:

Lol this is literally me all through college and I was 17 when I started school. Typical large party that probably got shut down after whatever time the city ordinance for noise complaints start. Ie where I am its 1AM

  18. lucy2 says:

Sounds like she is having a fun summer – and why not?
I have to think a party that gets reported for noise on Martha’s Vineyard is pretty tame compared to a college town party. Only been there once, but MV doesn’t strike me as a raging kegger kind of town.

  19. pikawho? says:

Omg they are so pretty and tall now!

And conservative media can chill. They are nowhere near the level of the Bush Twins and their half a decade long Girls Gone Wild audition.

  20. KiddVicious says:

Why those rowdy miscreants making all of that noise! Nothing good will become of them. And get off my lawn! :shakes cane in the air:

  21. Lady Mimosa says:

She should have gone to college this year, this is what college is about.

  22. Lucky jane says:

I only just now noticed those dresses in the top pic. Those are so cute.

  23. Soror Bro says:

“What’s funny to me is that Secret Service was like “THE FUZZ IS HERE, SCATTER!”

Haha. It’s like something from Superbad.

  24. India Andrews says:

Must have been a good party.

  25. Jwoolman says:

I lived just a block away from some houses occupied by college students near a college. They did get noisy sometimes – at home, their parents always told them when to tone it down, but without parental supervision they didn’t always think of the neighbors. I never called the city police, but once it was so awful (extremely loud with an incessant beat) that my small house was shaking and my stomach was flip flopping so much I was getting nauseated. So I called campus security and asked them to please get the kids to tone it down…. I wasn’t in any shape to have a chat with the perpetrators myself and they outnumbered me. Security said they had to do that quite a bit! Now I’m a few decades older and the house could be hit by a tornado and on its way to Oz and I wouldn’t wake up…

  26. Matchday says:

Their both beautiful girls, but each inherited their mother’s Resting B Face.

  27. Char says:

Haha, I was also going to comment on Malia’s RBF (I can’t see Sasha so much on my phone); I love it! She looks just like her mom.

  28. Me Three says:

Please tell me you’re not taking this story seriously? Everyone knows the Herald and Page 6 hate the Obamas and are part of the expanding right wing media. Page 6 is the NY Post which is owned by MURDOCK. The Herald is almost as bad as Breitbart.
