Alicia Vikander in Louis Vuitton at the Venice Film Festival: costumey or cute?

wenn29463837

Before we dive into these photos, go back and look at Alicia Vikander’s Louis Vuitton dress at last year’s Venice Film Festival premiere of The Danish Girl. At this time last year, she already was months into her Louis Vuitton contract, and LV was not serving her well. Last year’s dress looked like a costume, and as some of you pointed out, it seemed like a “beer maiden” costume from Oktoberfest. Now look at the photos in this post, taken on September 1, 2016. SHE DID IT AGAIN. Another costumey ensemble, another “beer maiden/milkmaid” look. Obviously, she wore Louis Vuitton again. I guess she still has a contract with them. LV used to be known for structural, polished-seeming clothes, so I’m at a loss for why Vikander keeps getting these weird costumes. I have no idea what Nicolas Ghesquière is doing these days with Vuitton. Do you?

What else? Should we talk about Michael Fassbender? Eh. In the past year, my Fass-crush has really deteriorated a lot. I think it has something to do with how much I hate his hair these days. I prefer Fassy with wild, unkempt hair and a crazy beard, sue me. I hate this in-between shiz. His hair sucks and his beard isn’t nearly as wooly and as gloriously ginger as it should be.

There are a million new joint-interviews with Vikander and Fassbender and even though they insist at the beginning of each interview that they will not discuss their off-screen relationship, the headlines are always about their love or passion or whatever. Meh. This NYT piece was decent – Vikander talks about shaving Fassbender, on screen, with a straight razor. Apparently, she did cut him.

I’m also including some additional photos of Alicia in that Prabal Gurung dress earlier on Thursday, at the photocall. That dress wasn’t cute either, but look at the terrible shoes! Yikes.

Gonna agree with your assessment of the LV look. It’s not flattering or cute in any way. I actually really liked the Prabal look, shoes included, and I’m not usually one for prints.

    • LadyMTL says:

The LV look is just so weird! It’s like they layered one dress on top of another and just decided to run with it. That said, I do like her shoes, because I have similar ones, lol (the heel is a bit shorter though).

I also prefer the Prabal outfit – heck, I would wear it out on a weekend visit to my mum’s – but I’m not nuts about the shoes. The straps across her feet are too wide, they make it all look very heavy for such a floaty, semi-sheer dress.

    • boredblond says:

I like the prabal too..sort of boho , but I agree neither is particularly flattering

    • LoveIsBlynd says:

It needs a girl with more attitude for one, and probably the black died hair thing- baby bangs etc. It needs a person with more edge.

    • Annetommy says:

Don’t like either of those dresses. Fassbender looks good if he’s your thing I think.

  2. Kiki says:

@Kaiser. My crush is nearly gone with Michael Fassbender. I also love his mess up hair and scraggly beard as well, it showed his personality and “don’t care” attitude. I think it is his boring, uptight girlfriend that rubbed off on him.

Anyways, they deserve each other. I wish them well.

    • Locke Lamora says:

I’m the opposite, I much prefer his look here, even if he still doesn’t do anything for me. He looks cleaner. I don’t know what’s with his hair, but it looks fairly greasy when it’s longer. So I’m glad the “uptight” girlfriend rubbed off on him.

    • Kiki says:

I have moved on. I just missed his down to earth personality. He just turned into a sell out.

      • Guesto says:

@Kiki – How exactly has he turned into a sell-out?

      • Kiki says:

Really? He is Kissing Harvey Weinstein, Derek Cianfrance and Alicia Vikander’s ass, to play the game. He is really campaigning for an oscar, which he doesn’t like campaigning or so I thought. So yeah, he is a sell out.

      • cr says:

I’m going to presume that he’s really kissing Alicia’s ass because he likes to. 🙂
As for the rest, well whatever.

      • Kiki says:

That is why he is a sell out and that is why they deserve each other.

      • FingerBinger says:

Fassbender met Vikander before her oscar win when she was relatively unknown. Why would he be kissing her a s s?

      • Kiki says:

Because after last year, she was the talk of the town, which basically took her overnight compare the someone who has 10 years to get where he is. If I wanted her status so quickly, I woud be jealous, so therefore kiss ass is an option.

      • Fanny says:

But it’s good that you’ve moved on and wish them well.

      • Guesto says:

It is good, isn’t it. 😉

The idea that Fassbinder needs anyone to elevate his ‘status’ is just beyond comical!

      • Bonzo says:

If anyone was accused of asskissing, I’d think it would have been her, not him. He was the bigger star. Now they’re both stars, so I guess I don’t get the logic behind the OPS comment.

      • Fanny says:

In order to understand it, you need to believe that Michael and Alicia’s two-year relationship is a sham mandated by Harvey Weinstein for the purpose of ensuring the success of a movie made by a competing movie studio. If you can grasp that logic, then the disgust for the two of them will easily follow.

      • Kiki says:

        Finally someone agrees with me.

      • SusanneToo says:

        No logic.

      • Bonzo says:

To me, he’s just doing the noral promo that actors do. Also, he and Alicia seem to genuinely love each other. I like their low key way of going about their relationship, unlike others, *cough* such as TIDDLES.

I don’t see any asskissing, especially when they got together before she was on everyone’s radar and that they’re going on two years, despite working constantly.

      • spidey says:

Is Fassy doing a comb over here?

      • spidey says:

Bbbbbbut he is 12 years older than her. 🙂

      • Lou says:

Fassbender campaigning for the Oscar? Not for this film, he ain’t. Apparently, Vikander is much better than him in this big mess of a movie. Perhaps that is why she looks despondent and somewhat sad. Anyway, I like the way she always wears something cool, comfortable and easy. I also love the black sandals. I don’t think they are in a relationship.

  3. alexc says:

    High end Swiss milkmaid.

  4. lilacflowers says:

High on the hill was a lonely goatherd!

    And I like Alicia.

    • Sixer says:

I like Alicia AND I have no interest in dresses. Not sure I even own one. Might be one at the back of my wardrobe somewhere.

And even I think this dress is hideous.

I still do not understand what capital crime Alicia has committed to be so disliked.

      • Guesto says:

I suspect it might be the two-fold capital crime of (a) being confident and not feeling the need to people-please and (b) winning the heart and mind of Michael Fassbinder who (shamefully) likes that sort of thing.

        They seem really happy together.

      • Locke Lamora says:

As someone who is generally more reserved, it’s nice to finally see a Hollywood actress who is like that, and not everyone’s best friend from the first minute.
And ambition is nice to see. I like her as a person. Not so blown away by her as an actress though.

      • Sixer says:

        I see AGENCY, proudly displayed.

That’s why I like her. Also, she has the advantage of being impossibly pretty. Even while wearing ridiculous dresses.

Guesto – I also thinks it speaks well of Fassbender that he a) likes her and b) seems to be sticking with her.

ETA: deleted bits that replied to a comment that’s gone.

      • KB says:

I admit I didn’t really like her last year, I don’t know why. She’s really quite charming in interviews though.

      • layla says:

        @Sixer –

I will unabashedly HONK for Alicia. I think she is quite fantastic. She completely won me over in Ex Machina. I appreciate her candid ambition. And I appreciate her general down played style on red carpets. HONK HONK !

      • Lilacflowers says:

I don’t get the dislike at all. She has talent and confidence.

      • qwerty says:

I think as a society we prefer our female idols to be insecure and self-deprecating. This is why JLaw is so well-liked, she paints herself as this neurotic mess. But whenever a woman shows up and she knows what she wants and has a healthy self-esteem and will not pretend otherwise, holds her head high and refuses to apologise for her existance (qualities we value in men), she’s a stuck-up b**ch.

  5. Beatrice says:

    Milkmaid chic.

  6. Aiobhan says:

I need Nicolas to go back to Balenciaga as that is where he did his best work. Even when he was doing high concept stuff, it was still cute and wearable. The stuff he is doing at LV is just plain ugly now. I loved his first two collections with LV though.

The second dress looks like it came out of a J. Jill catalog. Not that that is the worst insult because you can find good deals on that site.

I still find Fassy attractive but I do not want to slobber all over him like I used to. I am now obsessed with Jason Momoa, Colin K., Martin Sensmeier, J.R Ramirez, and Callan Mulvey. I like to rotate my stable a little. lol

  7. Locke Lamora says:

The premiere dress looks awful. The photocall dress is great, and I love the shoes. And the bangs. She looks great with bangs.

    • ichsi says:

Yeah, the photocall dress looked really good on her, I was actually hopeful and then BAM LV put her in another super fugly atrocity. How? Why? Why don’t the just cancel the contract, no one is doing the other any favour!

      • Locke Lamora says:

Money? I know JLaw got 40 million $ for her Dior contract. I’d wear paper bags around for that kind of money.

      • ichsi says:

Paper bags yes, but this? xDD Aw man, the Prabal proves that it really isn’t that hard to dress her (despite some people claiming that it is apparently super hard to dress her square figure or whatever) it’s LV that is screwing up.

    • Pabena6 says:

@Locke Lamora – I agree, I like her w/ bangs, but wow, does it make her look like a Nichole Ritchie cousin or what?! Lovely girl.

  8. Seraphina says:

I actually like the dress. The front does look like a mess. But she seldom WOWs me with what she wears.

I too am losing my Fass Crush. Maybe it’s because I think he’s been tamed by Alicia.

    • lilacflowers says:

I think the two separate pieces of the dress would be fine on their own. Together? Oktoberfest!

  9. SusanneToo says:

In the last two years AV has become one of my favorite actresses. I like the boho dress, but not the LV. Alicia looks great in simple, clean lines without a lot of frou-frou, LV should take a hint.

  10. minx says:

    Awful dress. Yeesh.

  11. paolanqar says:

She is so doily but I find her incredibly cute. They look great together.

  12. A says:

I hate the dress but somehow she makes it work. I like them both, they look cute together.

  13. lucy2 says:

What a shame the contract she got was LV. She’s been so high profile in the last year or two, and has been stuck in dreadful dresses.

  14. lisa2 says:

Michael looks good. Alicia looks boring and uninteresting. I haven’t like the majority of her RC looks. I don’t know what her personality is and her clothing choices just seem very nondescript. She is pretty. simple.

  15. Jayna says:

He is so sexy. I love her skin. She always looks so fresh and natural on red carpets, not caked with makeup.

  16. Fiorella says:

I really think he’s a bigger start than Alicia why would he sell out by kissing her ass ?

  17. KateS says:

I still love Fassy, I think he looks great here, and I like Alicia too… She’s different , and like someone said above I agree that the fact Michael seems to like her makes me like him more …

  18. ell says:

NO! it’s horrendous. i don’t understand why louis vuitton keeps making these milkmaid gowns.

  19. moon says:

I still think she pulls it off because she’s a pretty girl, but this dress is awful. Who designed it?! What is NG doing at LV?!

Also – why does Alicia look so grumpy in the photos here?

  20. Ji-yun says:

Someone mentioned she looks like Pippa Middleton. Now it’s all I see when I see her.

  21. ReineDidon says:

Louis Vuitton fashion has been disappointing lately. All the stars that are contractually linked to LV have been dressing badly !

  22. Alison Ryan says:

Her face just screams condescension (sp?) and it drives me a bit bonkers. I think she is truly overrated and while she’s gorgeous, she always looks like she wants to be anywhere else.

  23. QQ says:

Fammmmm When that dress loaded …. I was like ..Pardon?? what IS this F*ckshit??! that looks nuts… like a said Yesterday the Tie Die Business looks like a Dress from Ross and i mean the clearance Rack specifically

  24. Tiny Martian says:

I love it. Absolutely love it! I’ve always loved folkloric elements in clothing, and that trend seems to be back this season, I’m seeing lots of black pieces with colorful embroidery in the stores.

And I really love it when women opt to wear something atypical for formal wear, I get really sick of the same ol’ same ol’ gowns. If I were going to a formal event where It was okay for me to draw attention to myself I’d dress like the Scandinavian equivalent of Frida Kahlo! Alas, my day job doesn’t really allow for this. 🙂

  25. Dani says:

Her dresses are all essentially the same cut, different pattern/execution. Not very inspiring but not completely awful either. Fassie, on the other hand, well I certainly like the cut of his jib *wink*

  26. Frosty says:

Alicia and Vuitton are just oil and water – Vuitton just doesn’t work for her. That’s the downside I guess to letting one design house dress you for everything.

  27. Fanny says:

I don’t mind the LV dress. The milkmaid thing has kind of grown on me and now I kind of like that she has her own “look”.

But I really hate the bangs. They make her look very ordinary. I also hate the Prabal dress and shoes. She looks like a New Jersey housewife on her way to do some high-end outlet shopping.

  28. Minxx says:

Another horrible LV dress. They should really stick to luggage and purses.
As to Fassbender and Vikander pairing: he looks like her father and she looks bored. Curious lack of chemistry for such a big-time “love affair”.

  29. Sadie77az says:

Her skin is sooooo beautiful. The dresses not so much.

  30. Fanny says:

I gotta say, I’m not happy to see that Fassy pulled the tight blue plum smugglers from 2011 out of his closet. Those jeans are hideous.

  31. Cat87 says:

Reading the comments, I feel Vikander and Fassbender are a hipster couple. just so much prentcious noise around them. we get it your actors, you like your privacy but are shamefully promoting your relationship for a movie. whatever, have your cake and eat it too but don’t bitch about the calories.

I don’t hate her dresses, it’s the shoes. the shoes are just awful.

  32. EM says:

It doesn’t matter what she wears. There is no personality,
