Here are some photos from the big premiere of Nocturnal Animals at the Venice Film Festival. Nocturnal Animals is Tom Ford’s second feature film following the surprisingly great A Single Man back in 2009. Ford was patient and he waited for the right project, and that project was Nocturnal Animals. The reviews are good-to-rapturous and coming out of Venice, Amy Adams is well-positioned to have another great run during the awards season. The plot of Nocturnal Animals is too complicated to summarize, but I’ll just say that I’m intrigued, and I’m rarely intrigued when it comes to Jake Gyllenhaal (sorry not sorry).
For the Venice premiere, Amy wore a one-armed gold gown from her director-designer. I mean, women would kill to have Tom Ford make them a dress, so the fact that Tom Ford-the-director insists on making clothes for his leading ladies is actually an incredible bonus. I will say that when Ford dressed Julianne Moore almost exclusively for the promotional tour of A Single Man, I ended up being disappointed. He made some really fug choices for Moore. I hope that doesn’t happen again with Amy Adams. For what it’s worth, I like this dress and I think Amy should do metallics more often. I love gold on a redhead. One minor thing, and I can’t believe I’m saying this about a Tom Ford dress, but the way the waist “sits” is a bit dodgy.
I’m also including some photos of Jake Gyllenhaal, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Aaron’s wife Sam Taylor-Johnson. Aaron looks hot in spite of his awful ‘90s haircut. Jake looks like Jake. I think Jake might need to regrow a beard, his babyface is hurting my eyes.

That is how you know its a Tom Ford movie lol. The premiere with the cast of A Single Man where everyone including Moore wore those beautiful tuxes is still one my favorite things.
This dress would be better pulled off later in the fall. It’s a heavy dress for end of summer. Especially for Venice this time of year. And the coloring is off for Amy’s skin tone. It may look better in person but on camera I’m not liking it. And her hair, would have loved to see with a semi up do.
All in all, could have done better.
I really like the dress. I’d prefer a more redhead friendly color on her, but I like the way it sits on her and I love that she looks like a normal sized woman who keeps in shape. I guess that has nothing to do with the dress, other than she looks great in it.
@Bettyrose….Amy Adams’ body is kind of amazing, right? I mean…it’s to the point where I can’t not comment on it. She’s 42 years old, not stick thin and her body is hot.
I think I’ve seen her in that dress before. Not that it’s a bad look, it’s just her norm. The dudes are looking ok. Aaron T-J needs a better fit in the sleeves. Actually on second look, he just needs a new suit. And Sam T-J’s dress matches his 90’s hair. Not sure how I feel about that.
I love Sam’s dress for exactly that reason xD! It’s a bit heavy but still, it looks great on her and the combo with his hair is perfect.
Amy is a queen and the movie looks very intriguing.
I love her and think she’s beautiful but she often choses unflattering outfits. Thet color washes her out.
I liked Aaron Taylor-Johnson better before the roided-up look.

I think that she looks stunning. I have always admired the range of Amy Adams, from Enchanted to American Hustle. Oh, and Sunshine Cleaning with Emily Blunt who I also like.

I’m not a fan of the dress. It looks awkward (too much material? Weirdly draped and ill defined waist?) and so does she. She doesn’t look comfortable.

I rarely, if ever, dislike any Tom Ford dress. The man likes shiny and I love shiny, end of story.
I also love him because he might have a thing for red heads. If not, he simply has great taste in actresses, Julianne Moore and Amy Adams are incredibly talented and beautiful. Colin Firth and Jake are also great.

The problem with the dress is it a heavy fabric and is too long. If it had skimmed the floor instead of puddling a little that weight would have pulled down from her bunchy waist and all would be good. If Tom Ford needs a better seamstress I’m available. And don’t get me started on yThose jacket sleeves and pants…..
ITAWY. It’s a “light” color but it looks heavy (too much material). It would probably look good more fitted and in tea-length. And keeping her hair in the soft waves, but pulled/pinned up in a loosed, shoulder-grazing style would have been gorgeous.

I like the dress, though the reflection coming from the red carpet isn’t flattering. And I thought the Single Man press tour was the best Julianne Moore has looked.

I must live under a rock – I had no idea Tom Ford had forayed into movie Directorship. How intriguing! I have long coveted his makeup, especially the lipstick, but so far haven’t splurged for any.
Redheads always look best in metallic. And she looks much better here than in the last pictures.

I don’t know if Ford is entirely to blame for Moore. I like her, but she has terrible taste when it comes to the red carpet.
I like the dress. The draping could be tighter, but it’s otherwise an interesting silouhette. I admit that I do think Ford does menswear better than womenswear, though. The men look great.

I think she looks stunning. I always think she’s pretty but she looks downright gorgeous in Venice right now. I don’t know what she does to stay so young looking but whatever it is …it works. She looks phenomenal.
No likey the Tom Ford dress but then I’m not a fan of his. I rarely care for his gowns. This gown is just not special. Meh is right. Seen it before. Fabric choice is not helping. Looks heavy.
Like Amys’ dress but metallic is tricky in natural light. At first glance, thought Sam’s dress was a jumpsuit, I usually don’t like jumpsuits but actually think it would have worked better that way.
Applauding Kaiser’s dislike for Jake G.,.. he always looks slightly dull and oddly moronic to me, On a positive note, he doesn’t look like a mouth breather in these pics (his usual MO). The fit of both men’s suits was surprising bad.
I’m just plain whelmed by Amy Adams. Not over-, not under- . To me she is the very definition of meh as an actress. Pretty and capable but does not have the charisma and screen presence to merit leading lady roles, and yet she gets them. Maybe it’s just me.
@LadyT, sorry but I think you are way too hard on her. She has loads of charisma. Her performance in Emchanted proved years ago that she can carry a movie. Roles for women in Hollywood–especially serous roles—are often never as fun as the ones men tend to get. I don’t always like the roles she is stuck with. But she’s wonderful. Honestly, I think people are consistently way too hard on Adams. She gets roles because she’s consistent, a hard worker, a nice person and you know if you cast her she will show up with no bad attitude and give it her all. Not sure what the mystery is.
I don’t like beards but Jake looks better with one. Love him can’t wait to see this. I think Amy looks great Tom likes shiny but v talented.
