Constance Wu in J. Mendel at the Emmys: one of the cutest looks of the night?

Constance Wu was one of my favorite people of the Emmys. Is this a controversial opinion? Wu looked amazing in this lovely J. Mendel dress. Her styling was great, especially considering she was just there to present. It’s unfortunate that she didn’t get nominated for Fresh Off the Boat, especially since Asian representation in TV and film is struggling so hard (still, we did get Aziz Ansari). Anyway, I loved her hair, I loved the hoop earrings, I loved that she seemed to be there to have fun AND network. It was great to see her at the Emmys.

Unfortunately, I can’t gush over Taraji P. Henson. I totally love Taraji, but her red carpet dress was not great. She wore this lemon-yellow Vera Wang, perhaps hoping that Beyonce would turn up (Beyonce did not turn up). Then, when Taraji came on stage to present (by herself, because she’s a queen), she changed her whole look and wore a God-awful wig. The dress change was also Vera Wang.

Goddesses! Love both Looks very Very VERY Much

    • Locke Lamora says:

I think they both look good too. And I love Taraji’s second wig.

      • QQ says:

Right? me too I don’t see the problem! Taraji’s wig Game is Unf*ckwithable

      • I Choose Me says:

Loved the wig on Taraji too. I don’t love the black detailing on the second gown but she rocks it anyway. Only thing I can’t be down with is the blowing a kiss pose. Gurl no! That is some D-listed starlet sh-t. You are better than that.

  2. Erinn says:

I looove Constance, and I love her gown. It’s fun, and she clearly loves it.

I can’t with that yellow though. It’s giving me early 2000’s prom vibes.

I love the colour on Taraji, but that is some David’s Bridal fabric.

Her second bronze dress was much better. I wonder if the heat was killing some of the ladies hair styles.

Constance’s dress though, and styling were the winners from these three looks. Is she always this cute? Should I start watching Fresh Off the Boat?

Constance was adorable. She is adorable. And her comic timing is impeccable.

  4. Crox says:

I love Taraji’s yellow dress and her hair. I think yellow is a hard colour to pull (but darker the complexion, the more beautifully the colour fits). She’s gorgeous.

That other dress, tho … no. And the wig is terrible, but that’s because I hate bangs.

  5. Aiobhan says:

Constance is beautiful and I like the dress and bag. What I don’t like is the hoops. They look too casual next to the ponytail.

I have to also disagree about Taraji. I love both looks because they are so different and not Alexander Wang. They are both dramatic and fun and so unexpected from her. The only thing I don’t like about the darker dress is the darker rectangles. They look out of place on an otherwise great dress.

  6. Margo S. says:

Constance is so beautiful. The academy is dumb for not nominating her because she is brilliant. Her dress is perfect! I want it! I personally love tarajis dresses. The yellow against her skin is stunning. And the second dress was cool. I loved the copper colour against her skin. Not a huge fan of the second wig but it does scream high fashion!

  7. Chinoiserie says:

Hoop earings look terrible and I am not sure if the hair and necklace fit the look but she looks great.

It bothers me that the show is called Fresh off the Boat, because they are not fresh off the boat. They had all lived in DC before moving to Florida. Perhaps mom and dad weren’t born in the USA, not sure, but they are NOT fresh off the boat. That being said, I love this show. The boys are so funny and I love all the 90’s references

    • Fiorella says:

I’ve only seen clips but mom At least has an accent, right? So not born in the US. And maybe the title is a reference to how the son sees his parents/ how they actz

I looooove Tarajis on stage outfit. She looks like an Empress. Constance is breathtaking and it looks completely effortless

Constance is another reason why the Emmy voting system just needs to be overhauled. They are going to keep ignoring her until theres enough of a public backlash that they actually watch Fresh Off The Boat. Then since theres only room for one minority on the nominations, they’ll jettison Tracey Ellis Ross or another WOC. Then they’ll still hand the award to Julia Louis Dreyfus.

    • Samtha says:

I love it too! On someone else, maybe it wouldn’t work, but Taraji looks amazing.

    • sanders says:

I can’t say I love Fresh off the Boat or Blackish, but, I think Constance Wu and Tracey Ellis Ross elevate those shows with their acting.

I agree with your assessment Naya. Constance consistently calls out racism in hollywood. This has got to hurt her chances for those emmy votes.

HONK for more constance, i think she is so beautiful and talented

Taraji;s looks are fine if you ignore the wig but that blowing kisses on the red carpet is beneath her. it will forever remind me of the cracken and taraji is too good for that

  11. Maxime DuCamp says:

Constance Wu is gorgeous. I don’t love her dress. though. I do love the shape of the dress and the way it fits her, but the colors and material are just too heavy. It’s giving an 80’s Bob Mackie vibe to an otherwise modern dress. I can’t tell if it would look better or worse in person.

  12. Pants says:

I like Constance’s dress, but I almost wish there was just a little less material. I loved Taraji’s yellow look personally!

  13. Jade says:

Constance was the best dressed of the night, she is so stunning. Also I loved when Jimmy called Taraji the real cookie monster, lol.

  14. Samtha says:

Constance’s dress is gorgeous and she looked good, but I don’t like the styling. The hair, earrings and makeup look too casual.

  15. lucy2 says:

Constance looks great, she’s adorable, and I really love that dress.
Not a big fan of yellow, but Taraji makes it work. I kind of like her on stage dress too, I was really feeling the glittery 70s gown vibe from many women last night.

  16. Lucy says:

They both looked fantastic imo. Constance brought the fun! And what’s wrong with the yellow gown? Good fit, good color, and Taraji seemed to love it.

  17. K says:

Both these women look amazing, just gorgeous.

  18. Zeddy says:

I love taraji. She can do no wrong in my eyes! Goddess!

  19. Frey says:

Wu looks cute. I too wish us Asians had more going on the awards department! And Taraji in the yellow is smashing

  20. Jess says:

I love Constance Wu – and I love Jessica on Fresh off the boat. She is the reason I watch that show and Constance should star in everything. She also looks incredible here. I liked Taraji’s yellow gown but, more importantly, I cannot wait to see her in Hidden Figures this winter. I’m reading the book right now, which is great, and I keep rewatching the trailer for the movie!

  21. deevia says:

Aging make up on a delicate Asian woman and a dress that swallows her whole. She is dressing for Taraji’s body type and attitude and not for her own strength.
