Holland Taylor’s tweets to Sarah Paulson make up for her Emmys absence

To no one’s surprise, Sarah Paulson won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or a Television Movie for her uncanny and moving portrayal of Simpson prosecutor Marcia Clark in FX’s The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story. Unfortunately, Sarah’s partner, legendary actress Holland Taylor, couldn’t attend Sunday night’s ceremony, but that didn’t keep the pair from sending sweet messages to each other throughout the day via Twitter. #relationshipgoals

Holland is currently in New York rehearsing for the Broadway revival of The Front Page with Mad Men’s silver fox John Slattery and Broadway standby Nathan Lane. She posted a photo of the loneliest ice cream cone ever to Twitter on Sunday afternoon with the caption, “Feeling deprived in Manhattan.#Emmys …Waaaaaaaaah!@MsSarahPaulson.”

Earlier, Holland posted a photo of Sarah getting prettified for the ceremony with a face mask with the positively aww-inducing caption, “Where pure beauty resides, some efforts are completely superfluous.” Well, damn. Of course, Holland gushed over Sarah’s Prada gown, calling it “glorious.”

While being interviewed before the ceremony by E!’s Giuliana Rancic, the 41-year-old actress made sure to send some love to her 73-year-old partner in the Big Apple, saying “Hi, Holland! If you’re watching, Holland Taylor, I love you.” Holland posted the clip on Twitter with the perfect response, “I’m watching…?? If I’m WATCHING??? YES, I’m watching–!!! good LORD! … I LOVE you!!!”

Later, when Sarah won the Emmy, not only did she deliver a heartfelt apology to Marcia Clark during her acceptance speech, (she later even had Marcia’s name engraved on her Emmy along with her own) she gave a big shoutout to Taylor. Aww, poor Taylor, she wasn’t there to see Sarah win…or even her former Bosom Buddies co-star Peter Scolari win an award for his work on Girls. I would have drowned my sorrows in a soft serve cone too.

Much has been made of the fact that Sarah brought Marcia Clark to the ceremony but she also brought Game of Thrones and Narcos star Pedro Pascal along for the festivities. She tweeted a photo of Pedro scaling a tree before the ceremony and later posted one of the 41-year-old actor munching on one of the sandwiches doled out by the Stranger Things kids. She captioned the snap, “Someone liked the sandwich.” I so want to hang out with this woman – and Pedro and Holland too. Best dinner party ever, am I right?

I think Holland and Sarah are such a great, supportive couple. I can’t even get a guy I like to hit the “like” button on any of my Facebook posts. Sheesh. True love does exist though, somewhere, and I’m glad these two can show me that. Congrats, Sarah!

    Aww, they are so cute!

And I’m way jealous she’s friends withy Pedro Pascal, he’s such a major babe.

  2. SM says:

It’s great that they are so supportive of each other and vocal about their love but I still find that age difference a bit spooky.

    • meija says:

      THIS^^^^^ I just can’t it looks like mother/ daughter.

      • Alexis says:

Yes…..and SARAHis now Hollywood thin and look at that plastic surgery. UGH? Even shes succumbed to that pressure!! Everything is SKI JUMP nose, cheeks etc. Previously Sarah was with Cherry Jones an amazing actor who married a really hot WAYYYYY younger woman. My hubby is 26 years my senior and there are real issues that comes with age differences. How you manage them is the key. Always, I agree….they look related at least…and Holland is worth gobs post a mill years on “MEN” and those international repeats…. Both are talented. I would say Holland more so.

    • T.Fanty says:

Holland Taylor looks EXACTLY like Sarah will in thirty years time. That’s kind of throwing me off, and I can’t unsee it.

    • Mia4S says:

I tend to be a little less thrown by it when the younger party was 40 when they got together. I figure you now yourself fairly well by then. If Sarah wants kids I could see how that may clash (although a lot of men in their 60s and 70s are doing it and….yeah). If she doesn’t, the lifestyle clash is even less likely.

    • Nicole says:

It’s odd but they were both fully grown adults when they got together so after my initial reaction now I find them really cute. But yea I was thrown off in the beginning

    • Suzanne says:

I FIND THE WHOLE THING CREEPY.

    • Kate says:

I don’t care about age differences as long as everyone’s legal, but I find it weird that people who would usually be super judgy about about an age difference half this size think this relationship is super cute.

It’s not because Sarah’s in her 40’s, because I’ve seen loads of male celebs in their 50’s, 60’s and 70’s called gross, sad, desperate old losers for dating women her age. Which I don’t agree with, but it’s really patronising for those people to give this relationship a pass because it’s two women. All the same issues apply, probably more so than many other relationships given Holland and Sarah share many of the same connections, but Holland has much closer ties to all of them.

    • DrM says:

they love each other – who cares about the age difference

  3. Marie says:

Completely jealous of her friendship with Pedro.

  4. QQ says:

GAAAHHHH im becoming more enamored with her, Pedro and Holland Taylor by the day *ALL THE HEART EYES* This is so cute!

  5. lilacflowers says:

    Adore all three of them.

  6. K.T says:

Sarah Paulson has been in the acting game for sooooo long & has done really some really fun, entertaining interviews. For. Years. And now she does does her modest/edgy acceptance award crawl by being political and yet sentimental – that’s really smart. Plus, She went haaaarrrd on the iced disco-glamdiva. I love it!

  7. Kimi says:

I must be the only one who can’t stand Pedro Pascal. He relies on his friendships with actresses to get work.

Also guy needs to get himself a real date to awards shows or people will talk…

    • Elizabeth says:

Yeah, still think Silas Carson should have played Oberyn Martell.

But Pedro is friends with Sarah, who is friends with Amanda, who is married to Dave, so…

    • Jen says:

My friend met him at an event she worked at and said he was one the rudest people she’s ever met in the industry.

  8. LAK says:

Love, LOVE, LURVE Holland Taylor. Will watch anything she is in for her performance.

  9. Elian says:

When talking about these two and the incredible age difference, people often say “older men date younger women all the time, this is no big deal!” but I really don’t think it matters that they’re two women. If it was a man and a woman, or two men, everyone would still be wtf-ing this. It’s so bizarre! They are in such different stages of life.

    • Cupcake says:

EXACTLY! The genders do not matter. Age differences of this magnitude in romantic partners are creepy.

      • Luana says:

I don’t think at all creepy, I know plenty of couples with similar ages and their relationships did not work out anyway. Be careful with what you say, I have a friend who use to be all judgmental about age difference and now is with a younger man.

  10. BendyWindy says:

Why do we owe Marcia Clark an apology, exactly?

    • Jen says:

An episode of the show was based around the way the media criticized Marcia Clark for her looks, romantic history, parenting, etc. I think she meant she had participated or stood by during those conversations (and I do remember how often her looks were part of conversations about the trial) and how now she realizes that was sexist and wrong.

      • Kori says:

And the episode in the series showing that was one of the best. How she was embarrassed and hurt by the focus on her hair–she changed it and felt so good about herself, walked in to the courtroom and everyone was staring and not in a good way. And the criticism continued. It was painful to watch–knowing all this was being dissected every day in papers and the media. And painful on a human level and infuriating on a feminist one–that you’re hustling your ass off to get this conviction and everyone’s like ‘oh her hair’. That this is a murder case and *that’s* the focus.

  11. Esmom says:

I don’t know, I find the gushing on social media a little unseemly, just like I do with non-celeb couples I know. It’s just feels like they need constant validation and it can get really tiresome.

    • Little Darling says:

Ha, I’m kind of with you on that. I love them. They’re Inspiring for openly displaying their love, but the back and forth on social media, regardless of the couple, is so extra to me.

One of my dear friends from high school recently married a woman he dated briefly in high school. They are the PERFECT couple, both hilarious, but they are constantly posting and cross tagging and conversing via comments to each other EVERY SINGLE DAY all day. The posts are fine, they’re hilarious, but I have to wonder, why are you guys talking to each other on Facebook?

      • Esmom says:

“…but I have to wonder, why are you guys talking to each other on Facebook?”

Exactly. It’s like people want everyone to witness how amazing, cool, hip, adorable, smart, witty, etc. they are. I really think some people just feed off the validation social media offers. I’m admittedly pretty private — I dreaded having a wedding, for example, because I really don’t enjoy being the center of attention — so it’s crazy to me what some people post.

    • Lyka says:

Yurrrp. I was like “Why are you not just texting or snapping each other??” But I don’t really know how public they normally are, so maybe this time it was just because it was a big night for Sarah and they felt loud and proud about it.

  12. Naya says:

Holland Taylor just adores her and wants the world to know it. Too cute.

  13. Betsy says:

I feel so confused. These two are dating? Who is Pedro? When did I get so out of it?

  14. AgeofBellendia says:

    GORGEOUS.

  15. Lyka says:

I laughed when I read this because I had just 100% assumed that Holland wasn’t at the Emmy’s because she’s old and was too tired to go. Lol, I know it’s sort of mean.

  16. Giddy says:

I was lucky enough to see Taylor Holland in her one woman show where she absolutely became Ann Richards. It was incredible. She has more energy than people decades younger so I don’t find it surprising that SP would be attracted. I’m also glad to live in a time where they could express their love for each other openly.

  17. Nancy says:

I find it interesting that most comments support Sarah and Holland’s May/December romance, but were grossed out by Mel Gibson and his much younger partner. Granted, he is a tool, but maybe/hopefully he loves this younger woman. Works both ways.

  18. Loo says:

26 and 41 are two completely different ages. Personally I’m grossed out when anyone get’s romantically involved with Mel Gibson because he’s a bigot and an abuser.

I’ll agree that people are way too obsessed with age gaps. I do think that age matters but as long as nobody is abusing anyone I don’t care. My deceased sister married a guy older than our father and that was in no way an abusive relationship before she died. She liked him and we liked him.

  19. Leah says:

Whatever works for them, leet them be happy. Sarah is 40, she is not some impressionable young thing.

  20. jj says:

I LOVE Holland. She is a fantastic comedic actress but this pairing will never NOT be weird to me!

  21. Camille says:

    They are adorable <3

  22. Lola Lola says:

Holland Taylor is the sexist thing since, well, ever. Holy smoke they are a fabulous couple! And so excited for Sarah’s win. Wooooooo hoooo!

  23. shouldawoulda says:

To be fair to Pedro, he nailed the red viper. It’s a pretty hard character to pull off. Amanda has a lot of friends too and none of them are on GOT. So saying that Amanda has any say, is not true.

  24. Sparkly says:

I used to have gut reactions to large age gaps until I fell for someone way younger than me. I didn’t even *know* about the gap for well over a year of hanging out every single day. She had a kid, we were colleagues and best friends, and had so much in common — I just assumed she was my age until I suggested drinks one weekend and she explained why she couldn’t. Absolutely blew my mind! When you meet someone and it clicks so perfectly, there is no age to think of. When it’s glorious, it just *is*.
