Eva Green in Elie Saab at the ‘Miss Peregrine’ premiere: dowdy or sexy?

I realize that many of you are Eva Green super-fans, so this post is just for you. These are photos of Eva at last night’s New York premiere of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, the new Tim Burton film. Incidentally, there are still rumors that Eva and Burton might be in a relationship, or were in a relationship when they filmed this. They still aren’t saying, although the body language could go either way. I think they look friendly and she seems like she would be Tim Burton’s (manic pixie/goth) dream girl.

Eva wore this somewhat underwhelming Elie Saab gown for the premiere. I love the color and she looks like a beautiful vampire created by Anne Rice. But the actual design of the gown is sort of a big MEH. I think it’s that netting/crochet/lace vibe on the front and on the side. It seems slightly dowdy when they were aiming for sexy, and you have to really TRY to make Eva look dowdy.

Meanwhile, Eva is over playing The Girlfriend. Good! She said:

“I don’t want to be the woman in the script where it goes, ‘There’s a beautiful, mysterious woman…’ Just, OK, forget it. I think I would feel unhappy. Some people play it very well but I want to be as equal as a man, you know what I mean? It’s nice not to play the girlfriend. It’s exciting to be other.”

[From The Independent]

While I don’t doubt that she’s legitimately tired of getting those scripts where she would just be playing “the beautiful girlfriend” to the hero, I also think that she’s getting to the age (she’s 36) where those scripts are really starting to drop off. Might as well make it look like her choice, you know?

Would be dowdy if it weren’t for that side lace. Damn. She looks ravishing IMO

  2. steph says:

I love her! Thanks for posting this Kaiser! She’s my goth soul sister

  3. Georgia says:

She look so tiny in the pic with Burton. I don’t know why but I thought she was very tall. Anyways, I really like her in that dress, but then again I am very partial to her. She is such a charismatic actress, I always enjoy seeing her about

  4. minime says:

not my kind of dress but that woman is a goddess, she looks good in everything.
I believe it’s her choice to not play the “girlfriend” roles, even if she’s 36 years old (?!)

  5. Jade says:

LOVE HER. But she looks too vampiric, think it’s the make-up, not the dress. Pls not Burton. I can actually see her with Helena hahaha…or Angelina hmmm…

  6. Insomniac says:

*swoon* Thanks for the post! I heart Eva.

  7. Bobo says:

Oh how awful to be 36 (sarcasm)…. she’s freaking gorgeous.

  8. Luca76 says:

I’m in the middle of binging the last season of Penny Dreadful she is sooo amazing.

  9. detritus says:

The colour is lovely, the lace is lovely, but I would snip off those boob ruffles. Ruins the drama with frou frou.

    • Sigh... says:

Yeah, it’s actually the ruffles that throws it off for me, too. Lovely color and fit, though.

      • detritus says:

Imagine with the front lace panel, but instead of ruffles the sides are a continuation of the centre opaque fabric?

  10. Hejhej says:

I adore her. Talented, beautiful, seems genuine and smart. What’s not to like?

I think Penny Dreadful and the succes it’s been might have been a turning point for her. She really rocks there, so perhaps that’s what’s caused her to do more in her roles, more than just her age.

  11. NeoCleo says:

Just jumping on here: this woman is amazing. I love to look at her and love to watch her.

  12. BadAssCompass says:

aaah Eva foreva <3 she killed it (cough, cough) in Penny Dreadful, too bad it wasn't widely recognized, hoping to see her more in the movies

  13. Bliss51 says:

His head is huge! She’s glorious.

  14. Impmom says:

Really if you follow her work that’s almost all she gets its ridiculous because she’s an amazing and strong actress.

  15. ell says:

she might be 36, but she can still easily pull off a younger character imo. not that it should matter tbh, 36 is still very young and only in hollywood it’s considered old. i agree with what she says, although i always found it quite weird she’s never in french films…

  16. Zuzus Girl says:

Her eye makeup does nothing for her usually stunning eyes. That dress is not good. She’s a fabulous actress. She carried the crazy with such conviction in Penny Dreadful.

  17. I Choose Me says:

Beautiful colour on her but kinda of a Monet. It looks better from farther away.

  18. QQ says:

Im here, Ive honked! Love the dress, zero complains

  19. EscapedConvent says:

J’adore Eva! She is one of just a few actresses I would call compelling. She has a veil of mystery around her, and when I’m watching her in a movie, I never know what she’s going to do next.

  20. Lulu says:

    Wow, she looks stunning!

  21. Anahit says:

Love her all you can for now, because in the new year she’s working with Woody Allen.

  22. gene123 says:

*sigh* shes just so beautiful…I love her so much

  23. honestperson says:

I don’t understand her beauty.Does anyone think she’s beautiful ?I do like the color of the dress and length ,her figure is nice

  24. Bridget says:

Oh, she’s gotta be with Burton romantically. This is a guy that likes to work with his significant others.

And I’m not particularly an Eva Green fan. She was in the detestable The Dreamers and that will forever taint her to me.

  25. Blackbetty says:

    Love her!

  26. A Fan says:

She looks fantastic in that dress. Very sexy. Those are some magnetic eyes.

  27. maryquitecontrary says:

BEAUTIFUL. She’s a girlcrush. Love her acting, her persona…she just seems very chill and down to earth.

But the Woody Allen comment just kind of killed it. WHY?? If it is true, sads.

  28. Tig says:

Does she ever not totally rim her eyes w/that super harsh eyeliner?

  29. Lisa says:

She’s gorgeous and I love the make up. The less she wears, the better, she doesn’t need heavy make up and eyeliner etc because her skin is fantastic. There were some super HD close up photos of her in the premiere posted online and I gasped, she’s gorgeous. I don’t understand why there are people who think she’s a snob, she’s very goofy and sweet and awkward. She’s just very shy but at the same time, she’s captivating and mysterious. Lovely, smart woman.
