Kendall Jenner explains why she deleted her Instagram: ‘I just wanted to detox’

kndall1

Earlier this week, there was some breaking Insta-model news: Kendall Jenner, one of the most famous of the Insta-models, had deleted or deactivated her Instagram account. “Insta-model” means “a model who curated her fame and career on social media platforms like Instagram,” so this was a pretty big deal for Kendall. Kendall had tens of millions of followers, and for the better part of a year, she had the most-liked Instagram ever (the hair-heart IG, above). So what happened? Was it an accident? Was it a conscious move away from social media? Hm…

It’s hard to keep up with Kendall Jenner these days. The 21-year-old reality star and model recently quit Instagram — and she revealed why during a Wednesday, November 16, appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

“It’s so crazy to me that it even became huge news like that. Like, I have no idea how that [happened],” Jenner told Ellen DeGeneres of the buzz surrounding her absence from social media. “I mean, like, I guess I didn’t expect it. I also took my Twitter off my phone. Like, I didn’t delete my Twitter entirely, but I took the app off my phone, so I had no idea anyone was even talking about it. I honestly didn’t even think anyone would care. My friends kept texting me and my family members and I was like, ‘How does everyone know?’ And they kept sending me links to, like, CNN and all these things and I was like, ‘Why is this even that big of a deal?’” she recounted. “It’s so crazy.”

“I just wanted to detox. I felt like I just wanted a little bit of a break. I’m always on it … I would wake up in the morning and I would look at it first thing, I would go to bed and it was the last thing I would look at,” Jenner told DeGeneres, 58. “I felt a little too dependent on it, so I kinda wanted to take a minute to detox.”

However, the social media maven assured the talk show host that she will eventually return to the app. “I’ll be back. I’ll come back. It’s been two days!” she said with a laugh. “Withdrawals are starting to occur.”

[From Us Weekly]

Since I don’t have the Twitter app (although I am on Twitter), I don’t know if it works that way, but sure. I’ll believe that Kendall was making an effort to disconnect in general and sh-t just got deleted. Believe it or not, I kind of liked Kendall’s IG. She wasn’t posting endless selfies, and a lot of her photos were work-related. I wonder if this will become more of a thing as these Instamodels get older – will more of them disconnect from social media and want to be seen as more “legitimate” models? Hm.

Also: I do think that a lot of people are disconnecting from social media in the wake of Donald Trump’s victory. Who wants to fight with the Deplorables online at this point?

    • swak says:

I facebook because it keeps me in touch with people I don’t see often and it has connected me with some of my classmates from high school and college. I like seeing what is going on in their lives.

I have never got this mentality.. People on the social media apps are real people. People dont go online or through these apps to talk to robots. Most of my friends and family are spread across countries and cities and social media connects me to them and this is the case with a lot of people. Not everyone has real friends and family living near them what the hell

I do wonder how this will effect her modeling career. Isn’t this why many of the models today get their jobs – because of their presence on social media and how many followers they can get?

Earlier this week? It’s only Wednesday! Thank god she didn’t keep us waiting in suspense…

I think she is trying to separate herself from her famewhorey family so she can gain some respect as a model. In her situation, even if it’s modeling, it’s probably healthier than her family. These kids didn’t ask for this. Bad luck on their part, in a certain sense. Granted, they have food and shelter, which is a lot more than many American kids can say.

I cannot believe that an INSTA-model was surprised when people were confused with her disconnecting her INSTAgram account. How disingenuous…

She has the coolest ig of all her family

    Good for her!

I’m only on Facebook but I go long periods without checking it sometimes. Lately there’s been many wars in my feed with Trump supporters attacking pro hillary or anti-trump memes. It’s just awful. I have to say, this election really opened my eyes in regards to a few of my “friends” on FB.

Also, why is that the most liked photo ever on instagram? She kind of looks like a corpse bride. I don’t get it.

    Make it permanent

Kudos to a Kardishian. The second time I’ve said that this year, something I swore I’d never say.

My friends call me Ron Swanson (a Parks And Rec reference if you didn’t watch the show) but I am proudly off the grid. If people are important to me, we talk, text, email, see each other live, etc. I feel mentally healthier having cut faux friendships out of my life and thankfully oblivious to the stupid stuff people I might socially know are posting on FB about the election.

same here. I deleted my FB (which was quite a hassle!), Twitter, LinkedIn accounts 2 years ago and never looked back. I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to let go. None of my close family or friends were/are on FB, so I guess that made a big difference. I wasted so much time online and I was really relieved when I pressed the delete button. Most of my FB friends didn’t notice for months (!) that I was no longer online – which is quite telling. 🙂

I thought the headline said ‘botox’ and my immediate response was “don’t you all?”

  11. Sunnydaze says:

Tens of millions of followers, most liked pic ever on instagram, fame wore family….and she was so shocked people cared? Ok. Sure.

That said, I get it. I deleted my fb and instagram after getting into it with a bible beater about the importance of seperation of church and state after a pic was posted in support of trump with the hashtag #imwithgod. I wasn’t even slamming trump, just wanted to give some legit info on why it’s important to not drag religion into politics in a very respectful way. And then when they responded about how the pledge of allegiance mentioned “under god” I felt compelled to drop some info on the origins of that. And then the other crazies came for me and I was done. Best decision I ever made. I do miss seeing what friends and family are up to but there’s no price you can put on not having to deal with all the toxicity and ignorance.

Her career is literally dependent on her Instagram, so of course she’s not going to be gone for long. Her feed is fake deep, and it shocks me when people say she’s different from her family. This was a PR gimmick. How convient she was on Ellen the next day to talk about it.

    • Erica_V says:

      THIIIIIS

Didn’t Estee Lauder pretty much admit the reason the hired her as a face of their beauty campaign was because of her “social media presence”?

  13. Katherine says:

You can’t accidentally delete instagram since it can only be done via browser, on the web, not within the app, and her profile is not there which means she deleted it or changed her username and set it to private, but since many of her followers would’ve probably figured it out soon enough (people who only follow a small number of accounts would notice in their following lists a different name and would be able to go to that page)

  14. CornyBlue says:

I doubt she deleted it by mistake it aint as easy as uninstalling the app if that is what she is saying. Last time I saw she had what 60 million followers ? That is a lot to just accidentally give up

  15. like, who cares? says:

She is so dumb and, like, poorly spoken. It’s, like, literally painful to read her verbal diarrhea. Her lack of a proper education, like, truly shows every time she opens her botoxed lips, you know?

  16. Isa says:

I don’t get why that’s the most liked photo. She should’ve laid on a plain floor to do that.

I deleted my Facebook yesterday. I live in a conservative area and it’s tough to see people suggest setting ones self on fire or how they want to shove the safety pins up your…
its fine for people to post about BLM rioters but heaven forbid you post anything about trump supporters doing awful things. You shouldn’t play into the race war. 🙄

Wow. That is awful! What is wrong with people?! So sorry. I live in a NY bubble, so mostly I see posts about phone banking, joining marches and saying positive.
