Sarah Paulson in Marc Jacobs at the Golden Globes: slaying it or underwhelming?

Sarah Paulson won the Golden Globe for best Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television, for People vs. OJ. She’s already won a Critics’ Choice award and an Emmy for her portrayal of Marcia Clarke, and I do think she’ll get a SAG too. She was in a backless longsleeve Marc Jacobs gown featuring silver and gold sequins in a wave pattern. This is kind of an overdone silhouette and I feel like we’ve seen this dress several times before, but it’s Sarah Paulson she always looks amazing. Look at the Golden Globe and then look at her dress! Prescient.

Sarah’s plus one was Amanda Peet, whom she also brought to the Critics Choice Awards. As I mentioned then, I wish Sarah would bring Holland Taylor as her date, but they don’t seem to be doing the red carpet thing. Sarah and Holland do tweet to each other quite a bit. Holland retweeted this:

Oh and Peet is in Bottega Veneta, withn a burgundy sleeveless boatneck. It’s a very nondescript dress and is a good choice for a plus one.

As Kaiser mentioned in our recap post, French actress Isabelle Huppert won best actress for Elle, in a category widely expected to go to Natalie Portman. I just looked it up and she is 63 years old! I thought she was 50-something tops. I don’t have an ID on the designer of her gown, but I like that cornflower skirt with that net top dripping with little floral sequins. Check out her ear cuff. This is the color and cut of my hair now and while I’ve said I want to chop it off into something similar to Paulson’s hair I think I’ll stick with it for a while.

Sarah and Peet looked beautiful. That Jacobs dress looks amazing on her. It is modest, simple yet so shinny and adorable

  2. Rocio says:

Isabelle and Winona were my favourite looks. I’m happy Isabelle won the Globe instead of Portman. I would have preferred Amy Adams but I cannot complain.

  3. Aiobhan Targaryen says:

Isabelle’s dress is a little dated but I still really like it on her. I like her lipstick even more. Congrats to her. I need to go see this and Hidden Figures as soon as possible.

I am surprised that Amanda chose such a sedate dress. She usually looks a hot mess, but pulled it together here. Hair and makeup look flawless.

I would never have suspected that Marc Jacobs designed Sarah’s dress. I would have though Naeem Khan. I don’t have strong feelings for it either way. I do think her bag is glorious.

  4. Aminah says:

    Isabelle Huppert looks great.

I like Sarah Paulson’s style usually (quirky and sophisticated at the same time), but I’m not really feeling it here. It might be lack of a bright lip color? The hair? The centre part is not very flattering.

Sarah usually wears something truly unique and this wasn’t. It was just another spangly gold awards show dress.

  5. Pinky Rose says:

    Isabelle dress is Armani Privé

  6. CL says:

I think Sarah looks like her girlfriend in these photos.

  7. Lucy2 says:

I love Sarah’s look, and for Amanda, that is one of her best ever. She usually wears very odd things.

  8. Slowsnow says:

Oh, come on. Isabelle Huppert (my favorite actress of all times) looks 63 and looks beautiful, more power to her. She is truly stunning, smart, independent, sometimes a bit frosty but with a twist.

  9. Adrien says:

I got excited seeing SarAh and Amanda together. Jack and Jill was my fave show. I had a crush on Ivan Sergei. Remember him? He was an emerging leading man, starring opposite Jennifer Aniston and Cristina Ricci. He was supposed to be like Channing Tatum style famous until he made that May I Sleep with Danger tv movie with Tori Spelling. Seeing a lot of my heroes from the early 00s make a career comeback, there is still hope for you, Ivan.

    • Blair Warner says:

+ 1 for Jack & Jill – when Sarah Paulson was actually beautiful and smiled once in a while! She may be a talent but she’s so aged and dour now.

  10. Div says:

Isabelle looks amazing. Although I kind of was hoping she would wear a suit…she often wears suits and looks incredibly sharp.

I feel like she is one of the best actresses (on par or even better than Helen Mirren, Meryl, Viola, etc.). I’ve always found it nuts that she has never been nominated for an Oscar considering she’s won the Volpi Cup, the Silver Bear, the Cannes prize, and many more……along with being nominated/winning at the Césars a ridiculous amount of times (I think over 15). As much as I love the Oscars though, so much of it is about campaigning and I think this is the first time she’s ever bothered to attend some of the luncheons, etc.

  11. Carmen says:

Paulson killed it. One of the six best looks of the night (the other five being Amy Adams, Thandie Newton, Felicity Huffman, Naomie Harris, and Viola Davis).

  12. squeezeolime says:

Sarah looks horrid. That hair. That dress. WHY?

  13. Lucy says:

Does Sarah ever not kill it? I rarely dislike anything she wears. And there’s NO WAY Isabelle is 63! I thought she was in her late 40s! Her and Gillian Anderson should give joint courses.

  14. Chaine says:

Sarah’s dress is ok but it ages her. It looks like something Jane Fonda would wear.

    • siri says:

Ah, I was trying to remember where I saw something like this before…Fonda actually did wear something very similar not that long ago. It’s true, it’s aging on Paulson. I think Isabelle looks wonderful, although the outfit is a bit dated.

  15. KiddVicious says:

I don’t like Sarah’s dress, it’s very dated to me. And doesn’t seem to fit well in the armpit/chest area.

Amanda looks great. I love her dress.

I can’t decide if I like Isabelle’s dress. She wears it well, but I don’t like where the mesh meets the skirt. I’m not exactly sure what’s bothering me about it though.

  16. Lisa says:

I see she went to her girlfriend’s plastic surgeon. :O
