Julia Louis-Dreyfus in Georges Chakra at the Golden Globes: boring or spot on?

Julia Louis-Dreyfus has won so many awards, so many times, for Veep. She won seven Emmys for that role, most of which were consecutive. She hasn’t won a Golden Globe for Veep yet, although she’s been nominated twice. (She does have a Globe for Seinfeld, from 1996. Can you believe that was over 20 freaking years ago?) So she came to the Globes in this very crisp white Georges Chakra gown featuring two thick black accent lines, one of which ran down the front of the back and side. This fit like a glove but I wonder whether it’s a little understated for the event. Still, Julia doesn’t care. She has so many statues on her mantle it’s enough for her to be nominated at this point.

I’m throwing Heidi Klum in here because she’s also in black and white, although her addition is somewhat nonsensical. She wasn’t a presenter or anything, thank goodness, she just showed up because that’s what she does. She’s in a too-small J. Mendel gown with cutouts along the waist and ribs. At least she didn’t bring her young boyfriend with her.

Felicity Huffman was nominated for American Crime, the category which went to Sarah Paulson. She’s also in Georges Chakra, in a gold halter top jumpsuit with wide white pants. The waist is actually square panels in shades of silver and bronze, like it’s pixelated, which I found so clever. Felicity has a globe for her 2005 performance in TransAmerica, and she’s been nominated a bunch of other times for Sports Night and Desperate Housewives.

Here’s Felicity’s costar, Regina King, in Romona Keveza. Regina has won two Emmys for her role in American Crime but she hasn’t won a Golden Globe yet. I could have sworn she was nominated last night, but that was last year. This dress is a bit plain but I do like the diagonal neckline.

Heidi’s dress seemed to have branches of one of those fake black Halloween trees glued onto it.

I love Julia’s dress and it isn’t boring at all, it’s elegant, works for her body and she always keep it simple and classy. That being said, it’s a shame she doesn’t have a Golden Globe for Veep, she is amazing in the role.

I agree and I also love Regina King’s. I’ll take plain over a hot mess that tries too hard (cough Heidi Klum) any day.

If this is boring, then let me be boring. To me, fashion should flatter a woman’s figure and that was not true of most of the dresses on the red carpet. Julia looks fabulous, the dress highlights her figure, and it looks well made.

This is one of the very few times that Heidi has gotten it right.

Regina’s dress is kind of blah, but it fits well and she looks like she loves it. So I guess I love it, too.

I like the details on the top part of Felicity’s jumpsuit.

Respectfully disagree. Heidi’s dress is a fug mess, especially with those cutouts. And she wears the same makeup to every event it seems like.

      For Heidi this is excellent.
      I am in shock.

For anyone else this would have been a giant miss, but I’ve set the bar really, REALLY low for Heidi. It always makes me wonder if her son picks her dresses or she gets a steep discount from an icecapades tailor.

    Love Felicity’s pantsuit

I like Julia’s dress, it’s simple and flattering. She’s not very tall and she can’t carry off big statement dresses.

  6. Carmen says:

Love Huffman’s outfit. King’s was okay.

  7. trollontheloose says:

Hedi Klum has no taste.no word to describe the bodice of the dress. too low too weird looking too heavy..Regina King ‘s dress is beautiful but she should have kept her body straight instead of pausing. Her arms are toned and it was beautiful when she was standing right

    • Lama Bean says:

She’s right that it’s too small. She barely got in that dress, which is why the bust is so low. You can see the bulge on side where the zipper is hanging on for dear life.

  8. Chaine says:

Julia’s dress is amazing, fun and different, love it. Felicity also looks gorgeous from the waist up. I don’t like the pants part of her outfit, can’t see even a hint of her shoes– why is this pants style a thing, always makes women look like they have elephant legs. Heidi, yuck, same as with Winona, strapless dress that looks like it is about to fall down.

  9. mellie says:

All these women look amazing….except Heidi, yuck, I bet she spent half the night hiking that dress up.

  10. KiddVicious says:

Did Heidi not look in the mirror before she left the house? What a mess.

Julia’s dress is nice and fits her perfectly.

I like Felicity’s outfit, but are those slits up the pant leg or stripes? I’d like to see it in motion.

I like Regina’s dress, but the top seems too bulky or heavy. She has great arms!

  11. I Choose Me says:

Regina looks great. She’s giving me serious arm envy.

  12. Abbess Tansy says:

Felicity and Regina for the win with honors to Julia.
Heidi, I’m sorry but that looked like a bad prom dress.

  13. Bridget says:

It would be pretty hard for Julia to win 7 consecutive Emmys for Veep, since the show is only just now starting its 6th season

  14. Daniel Lopez says:

Your are so beautiful, you can wear anything.you make my day,i watch you on TV,everyday.love Daniel
