Vanity Fair has four exclusive, incredible covers for ‘Star Wars: The Last Jedi’

American Ballet Theater 2017 Spring Gala

OoooOOOoo. Star Wars: The Last Jedi doesn’t come out until December, but I guess it’s never too early to make the Star Wars stans completely freak out. Vanity Fair teamed with photographer Annie Leibovitz and the cast of The Last Jedi for a series of exclusive VF covers. And these covers are so incredible.

The first cover shows Rey (Daisy Ridley) and Luke (Mark Hamill), in what I suspect will be the big storyline of The Last Jedi. If The Force Awakens was just a reimagined version of A New Hope, The Last Jedi will be a reimagined Empire Strikes Back, where Rey is in Jedi-training for much of the film. Perhaps by the end of it, we’ll have a better idea about Rey’s parentage too. Is Luke her father? Her uncle? Or are they not related in the least? Hm.

The other covers include Oscar Isaac making a “who farted?” face, John Boyega looking ready to Jedi the sh-t out of all of this, Kylo Ren looking like a moody hipster, Gwendoline Christie as the New Boba Fett, and Domhnall Gleeson and his bad hair. And then there’s the Carrie Fisher cover. I can’t even talk about it because I’ll cry. You can see Vanity Fair’s feature here.

Which cover should I buy, which cover should I buy, which cover should I buy. All of them ?

I’m a VF subscriber and I am really crossing my fingers hard for the Carrie Fisher cover. I might actually try and find it to buy, if I don’t get it in the mail…it’s such a great photo.

You can preorder the cover you want on vanityfair.com – I’m buying the General Organa one right now. I needed this news after checking out the Daily Beast and seeing the depressing news coming out of Texas (doubling down on homophobia and the law) and the rise of fascism in Japan.

The fourth one breaks my heart.

Very nice but obviously the Carrie Fisher cover>>>>>>>>everything.

The costumes are gorgeous but then they always are in Star Wars. I’ve had a low key obsession ever since I discovered the button rule. In an interview Diego Luna talked about how he was having an issue with one of his Rogue One costumes staying in place and asked if they could put a button on it. The costume department told him absolutely not, no buttons in Star Wars!(?????) Well so far this seems to be true. Let me know if you ever spot one.

They are beautiful!! Tasteful, powerful!! Love them all!! 👌

  5. Jenns says:

I love that picture of Carrie. Such a beautiful cover.

And I hate to be that person, but so far the marketing for this movie is doing nothing for me. I found the trailer to be a bit “meh” and while these covers are nice, they’re also the same standard format of previous Star Wars covers. Nothing seems new or fresh at this point.

I’m still excited for the movie though.

    • Mia4s says:

I know what you mean and I think it’s normal. There’s been no break from Star Wars (similar to comic book franchises now) so the same hysteria is not there. There was a ten year drought before Force Awakens. But after that we got Rogue One a year later and that established the pattern. We’re not starving for it anymore.

The truth is because of that even if Last Jedi is a better movie it will most likely make less than Force Awakens (and the Han Solo movie will likely make less than Rogue One). They will be insanely, bonkers, successful, but the reality is that it will naturally see a bit of a drop. That’s fine except it gives internet outlets a chance for a million “Is Star Wars losing its audience? And “What went wrong?” stories. Ughhhhhhhh. 🙄

    • Marianne says:

Its not coming out till Dec though, so they will probably do a much bigger marketing campaign closer to then.

  6. L84Tea says:

I got goosebumps when I saw Carrie Fisher’s cover.

  7. Nicole says:

    The last one 🙁

  8. Lucy says:

OMGGGGGGG. That last one is absolutely fantastic.

  9. Marianne says:

    I want the baddies cover

  10. Zuzus Girl says:

The lighting on those covers (all of them) is horrible. Still looking forward to the movies. Awww….Carrie.

  11. Lightpurple says:

That picture of Carrie is fabulous and heartbreaking and I need that gorgeous coat she’s wearing.

  12. Veronica says:

I’m glad they understood that the eternal princess deserved her own cover. Aww, Carrie. Seeing her in TLJ is going to be bittersweet. I really hope they did right by her; she was iconic for so many young girls.

I am so ready for grumpy old man Luke, though. I want him smoking a cigar and checking out the latest catalogue of Space!Prada’s reclusive loner collection while Rey balances one two fingers levitating Chewbacca and ten boulders over the Millennium Falcon.

  13. Digital Unicorn (aka Betti) says:

Carries cover will be a MEGA collectors item.

  14. Eveil says:

I love this blog but I’m going to have to call out the fact that you named every one of these actors and actresses except for Kelly Marie Tran. For being a proponent of diversity and inclusion, the fact that everyone on the covers was named except for the sole Asian woman is disappointing and disheartening.

  15. raincoaster says:

There is no printing plant on Earth that will be able to print enough of the Princess Leia cover.

  16. Lindy says:

The Princess (General) Leia cover is giving me *all* the feels. I’m still so sad when I think of it. Did y’all know that she wrote this funny, weird charming kids’ story imagining the wild adventures that balloons go on when they accidentally are let go by children. When my son was about two that was his favorite book. I bet I read it to him a hundred times. The spirit of the book was playful, a little wistful, and completely delightful.
