Jessica Chastain was one of the chairs of this year’s amfAR gala in Cannes, which raised millions for AIDS research through auctions of art and fashion. It included a fashion show and performances by Diana Ross, Rita Ora and Nicki Minaj. People Magazine has more details about the event and we’ll be covering some of the fashion this morning, which was impressive overall. The celebrities and models brought some drama to the red carpet, which is nice to see. Chastain’s blackless black Prada with side cutouts wasn’t an attention-getting dress but her styling was the star. Look at that amazing pearl necklace she wore backwards. Coupled with her beautiful makeup and braided updo, she just looked effortless and elegant. I love these photos of her goofing off with Will Smith on the red carpet and I’m also including some pictures of her with her boyfriend of over four years, Gian Luca Passi. Look at how he looks at her!

Irina Shayk is just so pretty. She had a baby less than two months ago and here she is at Cannes glowing in this silver and pink metallic spaghetti strap Prada gown. Her understated makeup is perfect and makes her look so fresh and young. She’s 31 but looks ten years younger. This dress really shows off her cleavage. (I had to say it, I couldn’t stop looking.) I like how the scalloped sequins become blue in spots and then bronze along the hem. It’s a gorgeous dress and she wears it well. Where’s Bradley Cooper though? Is he still filming A Star is Born?

Tracee Ellis Ross brought the drama in a crimson Jenny Packham wrap dress and apparently this dress is bridal. How is this bridal? I really like the mix of sequins with those huge feather sleeves but feel like this dress would work better if the bodice and skirt was more tailored. It’s just huge and hangs on her, but I do think she’s working it.

Do you remember when Petra Nemcova was the next big thing? Do you remember that she dated Sean Penn? I feel for her somewhat, but she’s remained committed to her charity and we still see her at Cannes. This light blue gown is Celia Kritharioti Haute Couture. There’s too much going on with this. Maybe without the ruffle at the waist and if this had a little more coverage and tailoring I would like this.

Karolina Kurkova was in Marchesa. Of course this is Marchesa. She’s posing like “ha, my dress is so quirky” but it’s just fug. Those bangs, which may be clip-on, go perfectly with this look. This has feathers, it has sequins, there’s embroidery and beads happening, it’s see through and there’s a giant ribbon tied on bizarrely like an afterthought. Just the idea of this dress is bad and the execution is confusing to say the least.
