I’m just leaning into this Katy Perry stuff, I don’t care. A lot of people want this to be scorched-earth ONLY ONE CAN SURVIVE, but let’s face it: Katy Perry and Taylor Swift both love the drama. They love the catfight. They love that they’re in each other’s orbits with their pettiness. While it might seem like Katy is waving the white flag, I believe that it’s part of her strategy too. During Katy’s 96-hour live stream, she said that she’s ready to “let it go” and “forgive” Tay-Tay for being such a Snake Emoji. Thus, Katy looks like the bigger person, the less petty person. But let’s also be real: this “let it go” message comes in the midst of an album release with a song called “Swish Swish” which is absolutely about Swift. Anyway, Katy sat down with the Today Show and Natalie Morales asked her directly about “Swish Swish” and all of that. Around the 3:30-mark is where Katy is asked about Taylor and “Swish Swish.”
Katy was asked about how she felt when Taylor released her back catalog on streaming services on the same day as Katy’s Witness was released – she said: “I don’t know. I can only do me.” When asked specifically about whether “Swish Swish” was about Swift, she said: “No, it’s not about anyone in particular. I’ve had not just one person bully me or one person hold me down or met one troll. All I need to say to [Taylor Swift] is I love her and God bless her on her journey.”
“God bless her on her journey”!!!! That is amazing. I don’t want to oversell this, but “God bless her on her journey” has shades of “I don’t know her.” How do I feel about Ivanka Trump? God bless her on her journey. How do I feel about Tracy Anderson? God bless her on her journey. It feels vaguely Southern, which is why I like it so much. Here in the South, we say “Bless you” as shade. We say “bless her heart” as a way of saying “she can go f–k herself.” And that’s how it’s being used here.

Damn, the Katy Perry apology tour is putting the feud in Taylor’s court. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them go out for a meal in New York, maybe one-up each other in magnanimity?

Haha there’s a few moments in her ‘Chained to the Rhythm’ video where the physical resemblance is uncanny.
Unpopular opinion – but I’m finding Katy PErry’s self promotion tour kind of hilarious and borderline endearing. What can I say – I have a soft pop for terrible but catchy pop. And I enjoy that she is like a dog with a bone about this Taylor Swift stuff.
I guess I meant it when I said Katy gets several passes for her vocal support for Hilary. lol.
I feel the same. Also I loved her performance at the One Love Manchester concert. So powerful. She has a good voice. But some of her songs are just SO awful. That bon appetit-song is just terrible.
I don’t think Katy looks like the better person, at all. She’s made herself look weak by needing Taylor and the fight sooooo badly to promote a horribly reviewed album. She can’t let the promo focus on the music.
Honestly, if she hadn’t responded at all she would have been seen as the better person. Or if she responded right away, she could have “won” in another way. As it is, she stooped to Taylor’s level 3 years too late while her album/singles are doing poorly. Not a winning strategy.
But that’s what Taylor banks on, people not responding to her pettiness. This is why she gets away with her blind item songs and snarking on all of her ex boyfriends. Katy hasn’t had an album out since Taylor aired their dirty laundry. Of course Katy is responding during promo season. Taylor did. Taylor releases albums about guys she’s dated years ago and then talks about during promo. Taylor fans can’t have their cake and eat it too.
If you are going to respond to the pettiness, don’t wait three years and then drop a lame diss track that isn’t a hit.
I’m not a Taylor fan, I just think Katy has worse strategy in this silly thing.
Bad Blood is just as awful. Taylor just has more fans willing to buy crap, I think.
I think Bad Blood is a HORRIBLE song…but it was a big hit for her. Swish Swish is a horrible song, but it is tanking.

She basically played Taylor. Yes the back catalogue was a cute move but Perry just made Taylor seem petty AGAIN. Because now if Taylor doesn’t drop it or apologize she looks like the snake she is.

Regardless of the whole Taylor Swift thing and the fact that her new album is trash, the 96 hour livestream was just so WEIRD. The concept just creeps me out. I watched the beginning of the first video and the footage of her just sleeping with the camera looking down at her while the hosts cackle about it is so strange and bizarre. *shudder*
We get it Katy. You’re sorry, you don’t care anymore, you wish her well. Now move on already!
