Dr. Drew thinks it’s going to take near trauma for Lindsay Lohan to get sober

drewangelinaheader

I think most people are aware that Lindsay Lohan is going to need to have something incredibly traumatic and life-altering to get her to take her sobriety seriously. Every so often she’ll go into rehab to help her image, her career, or because a court tells her to. But obviously she’s never doing it for the right reasons, and never admitting that she has any kind of a problem whatsoever.

“Celebrity Rehab” creator Dr. Drew Pinsky says he truly believes Lohan will get sober one day – but that it’s going to take a near death type experience – or something of that severity – to get through to her.

“I’m convinced that she’ll get sober one day. But I’m afraid that between now and then, she may get a nearly mortal wound of some type. I’m really convinced that something horrible is going to have to happen to her before she really gets over it and embraces sobriety. She needs to give it up. And it’s going to be a while before she does. I have this image that she’s going to lose a limb or something before she does. And it scares me.”

Dr. Drew also says he thinks part of the problem with staying sober for a lot of celebrities is that they don’t have “a place to hide.” Meaning they can’t go anywhere anonymous and safe for support, because even at places like AA, it’s not an anonymous situation when you’re David Hasselhoff. And people want to know his business in a different way than they want to hear about the addict next to them – it’s just human nature.

While I agree with Dr. Drew about it taking something terribly huge for Lohan to get her act together, the fact is that if it takes something so drastic, whatever it is may very well kill her instead. I feel mean saying it, and I’m not trying to be catty or pessimistic. But she’s been in and out of rehab so many times, and made it clear she doesn’t care. Either she thinks the rules don’t apply to her and she’ll always be able to live without consequences – whether they’re legal or health – or she doesn’t give a rip about them. And she’s got absolutely no support system whatsoever. I truly hope she decides to get her life together, but it’s hard to keep saying that sort of thing without waiting for her to steal someone’s car and run over a stranger’s foot again.

Here’s Lindsay leaving Cuckoo Club in London just before 2.30 in the morning last night. Images thanks to WENN.com .

Cos it probably IS her support system, to get drunk/high. So she cant give that up or else its abyss. Even though it contributes to her problems… in that one way, because she BELIEVES it helps her, she wont give it up.

No Shit Sherlock! Who cares?! In fact, hurry up! I’m done hearing about Lezy Cokah!

  3. dovesgate says:

No, she doesn’t think the rules apply to her. One of the guys at work has met her and says she is the rudest customer he has ever had with a HUGE sense of entitlement.

  4. fizXgirl314 says:

is this a medical diagnosis? cuz i think any moron off the street could have said that much… well, about anyone really.

  5. dubdub2000 says:

oh God, I can not stand Dr. Draw.

He is sooooo full of himself. Has truly terrible advice and pimping his patients on tv just says everything you need to know about him.

He clearly thinks he’s God’s gift to mankind and is one of the most negative persons I have ever heard. He’s constantly in castastrophic scenarios. I’m not saying that in her case he is wrong but once upon a time when I used to listen to his radio show (yonks and yonks ago) I was just appalled at how he would slam certain callers who just needed a little encouragement or redirection, basically telling them that they would have severe psychological problems due to this or that. Basically the kind of “Dr” who would create “repressed memories” in patients…urgh!

  6. Bodhi says:

Wow, she looks CRANKED in those pictures! Yowzers!

I don’t like Dr. Drew either, but he is right in this case. Something really earthshaking is going to have to happen to make her WANT to get sober. And thats what its about, she has to WANT it.

  7. Diana says:

Dr. Drew is so inappropriate. She isn’t his patient.

IMO, the entire family needs help away from the media.

  8. MSat says:

When did Dr. Drew become such an authority? I can’t think of a single celebrity he’s supposedly “helped” who is still on the wagon. In fact, in his show Sober House, some of the folks who were sober coming into that environment ended up relapsing! He sucks.

This is absolutely true, and yet I find myself baffled that knowing this full well, Dr. Drew can try to justify his decision to exploit his patients and deprive them of anonymity during recovery, signed contract or not. Everyone knows addicts are poor decision makers and risk takers, the Anonymity clause is intentionally written into the most successful recovery programs in the world for that very reason. Why then would Dr. Drew try to profit off these lives to the detriment of their treatment? No wonder most of them already relapsed. Think about it. If a has-been is all of a sudden getting attention and fame again because of their addiction or acting out in front of a camera, what kind of message is that sending? They need to remove themselves of fame and ego and into a safe protected environment to focus on their recovery, not try to build their careers during rehab. Dr. Drew is an absolute criminal for this behavior and should be in jail. I can’t believe some people think money and ratings is more important than human lives. Audiences, please take more responsibility for your viewing choices and the impact they are having in the long term. It’s not just mindless entertainment.

how about he shuts the hell up? hes such a fame-whore. he doesnt treat her so stop talking about her.

  11. czarina says:

I don’t care if they have a TV show or real credentials…doctors publicly diagnosing a person they have never met or treated is absolutely inappropriate.
So is making predictions about people’s recovery potential or disasters that are going to befall them(when they are speaking as a doctor…if WE make predictions here on CB nobody is pretending to be speaking with professional authority–we’re just guessing).
Moreover, I assume dealing with an addiction when you have little or no support system (look at her family!)just MIGHT be a bit more complicated than “she has to give it up”. Duh, ya think???
This guy reminds me of the old joke: “What do you call the guy who graduated last in his class at medical school?–Doctor”

  12. noname says:

this can be said of any addict. something terrible needs to happen to force someone to realize that they are NOT in CONTROL of their life. that they have become a slave to whatever substance(s) it may be. it happens for people in various ways. unfortunately for many in the public eye it is often too late. who knows exactly why. it could be a chicken or the egg thing. was someone like lindsey susceptible to addiction b/c of her genetics, way she was brought up? is it the world she was thrust into? is it the paparazzi she courts b/c she is terrified to loose what has given her her identity? i could go on and on. but what’s the point?
get well and god bless. even if not linds, maybe someone else in the world can see their mistakes…

  13. Trashaddict says:

Maybe she’ll get sober when she realizes the drugs are making her look like an aging hooker (not to mention the clothes!)

  14. Cookie says:

DR. DREW keeps bringing up her name for his own CELEBRITYAHOLE. He’s not a real doctor, just a leech onto celebs.

  15. Freddy Fritz says:

DR. Dribble is nothing but a sycophant.

the grapevine says: she is on loads of prescription pills AND taking alot of heavy drugs, including heroin. she won’t last the year.

  17. Bobby the K says:

    ~

It will take a long time and a lot of work for her to get well.

And in the process, she could not seek the attention she seeks now.

So no, she won’t be getting well.

DEAD BY NOVEMBER. LIFETIME MOVIE WITH A CRAPPY CAST.

  19. Ellen says:

I think it’s pretty troubling that he felt the need to paint the “lose a limb” scenario. The comment alone begs psychoanalysis. Anyone can see she’s a mess and he’s not helping. Physician, heal thyself.

  20. RaeJillian says:

she, and many other child stars seem to get stuck emotionally at or right around the age they got famous. maybe it’s working and not having normal evelopment – i don’t know BUt i do know that over partying, rudeness, and bratty-ness does seem like teenage behavior. i think she needs a therapist and a trip to a year long rehab.

  21. Darya says:

I wish this fame-ho, “Dr. Drew” would just go away. He lost his credibility long ago and now he’s just annoying like Dr. Phil.

  22. kiki says:

Dr Phil tried to pull the same shit with Britney Spears
Lindsay thrive on the drama in her life. Like everyone prediciting Courney Loves and Amy Winehouse immediate death, on the contrary they’ll live long lives.

  23. Rallah says:

I kind of do feel bad for Linds and that Drew guy should not publicly be making dire predictions about her future, faking concern to give him some more fame so he can get the funds to get the good drugs that Lindsay has access to. On the otherhand, if Linds is being rude to people serving her, as dovesgates buddy experienced, then I lose respect. I work in customer service and deal with @ssholes on a daily basis. Perhaps Linds could go to rehab in disquise, and her rehab would be to work in Starbucks, or as a customer service clerk in a big box hell mart. If she is indeed treating clerks like crap, it comes back threefold.

  24. Lucinda says:

JayBird, I agree with your assessment about going to rehab and being a celebrity. A few years ago Robin Williams came to Oregon to complete rehab. My dad is an alcoholic and his wife was hoping my dad would get to talk to Robin and perhaps get his signature. My dad said, “What? He’ll say ‘hi, I’m Robin W’ Just leave the guy alone.” He really understood that Robin needed his privacy more than ever at that time but a lot of people don’t.

Whether or not Lindsay feels entitled, I do feel for her. She’s a junkie with no sane support system and has lived a life beyond weird since she was a child. There doesn’t appear to be any solid base for her to build upon. I hope at some point she can get the help she clearly needs.

  25. While I think that Dr. Drew is a complete tool, I don’t think his statement was inappropriate. He wasn’t making a diagnosis, merely an observation and stating common knowledge. (The same observation that the majority of us snarkers made some time ago, and is the general consensus of anybody standing in the check-out aisle. Lohan is out of control and cranked out of her mind.)

The same could be said of any addict – hence the term “addiction”. Nothing riveting. A little sensationalized, perhaps.

Like, how does one lose a limb from coke/alcohol abuse, exactly? Was she caught stealing some kilos (personal use, of course) from a Saudi Arabian? (Like that mean shop keeper in Aladdin!?) Knowing Lins, though, I somehow imagine it would be a far seedier ending than just losing a hand . . . Gross.

Let’s play a game. Which limb do you think LiLo will lose first and how?

I want a second opinion from Dr. Spaceman.

  27. Bodhi says:

lol @ JMac!! Um… right big toe. She will stub the hell out of it on a bender & will forget about. Little will she know that she got a cut when she broke it. This cut will become infected & the toe will have to be amputated.

    Kinda weak, I know…

  28. CH says:

Love La Lohan… shes twenty something… shes supposed to be getting smacked outta her face every week…. enjoy 😉

  29. dirtyoldman says:

That explains why the dude in picture 6 is copping a feel while he has the chance — his left hand looks pressed to her breast. (Second row, the pic on the right)

the grapevine says: she is on loads of prescription pills AND taking alot of heavy drugs, including heroin. she won’t last the year.

  30. Peg says:

He has an image of her losing a limb? What kind of stupid diagnosis is that? What’s he, fucking psychic, or something?

  31. Chris Kryer says:

she’s going to be smacked into her COFFIN very very soon. the lining of it will be made of pure coke!

  32. SNS says:

Id say the most likely “dangerious” situation she is going to get herself into when being drunk that often is either drug overdose or being raped.

Obviously I wouldnt wish either on someone, but I would say the drug one is more likely as I wouldnt be suprised if she has already found herself waking up next to strangers.

I think it will be too late to save her from her drinking, because she’l be dead from a drug overdose or being spiked before she has a chance to see the light.

I do agree though that its hardly surprising young film stars and singers get into drinking and drugs. They have absolutely no privacy or escapism other then to get drunk or stoned and pretend like the world doesnt exist.

Its a desperate cry to be normal, to regain their lost youth they either lost or never had because of “fame and fortune”.

It all comes down to the PAPs again and these people being constantly harrassed by cameras and newspapers and magazines.

Their unable to live normal lives beause at no point does the “celebrity life” stop. Its not like going to an 8 hour shift behind a desk where you do a job, do your thing and then go home and forget the world.

These people have to work, act their scenes, sing their lines and instead of going home and relaxing, their shoved into TV and Magazine interviews, forced to attend parties for PR, forced to have relationships with other celebs because they cant date normal people and so on and so forth.

End result = drinking and drugs!

  33. chrischron says:

    huh?

i don’t really follow all the gossip bs, but didn’t lindsay get sober about two years ago?

how does everybody somehow just “know” without evidence that she relapsed?

i used to get high ALL the time, but people all the time presently think i’ll look high. so how can anybody judge her state of consciousness by a mere picture (that could have been doctored, for that matter)?
