Celebrities came out to support & sponsor the March For Our Lives

Stars at the March For Our Lives March in Washington, DC

Celebrities were out in full force at the March For Our Lives event. Many of them even gave money and offered financial sponsorships for specific things. Lady Gaga sponsored one of the buses ferrying protesters to DC. Jimmy Fallon sponsored a bus as well, and Jennifer Lopez was one of the celebrities working with MTV and the NAACP to promote the event. George and Amal Clooney not only donated $500K to the protest, they also donated money to provide water for the thirsty protesters. Oprah donated too. I’m trying to compile a good list of all of the celebrities who turned up at the March For Our Lives protest in Washington, plus all of the other marches in other cities. This is the list I have:

George & Amal Clooney
Paul McCartney
Ben Affleck
Karlie Kloss
Kyra Sedgwick & Kevin Bacon
Julianne Moore
Vic Mensa
Selena Gomez
Miley Cyrus
Amy Schumer
Kanye West & Kim Kardashian
Dennis Rodman
Andra Day
Demi Lovato
Lin Manuel Miranda
Common
Ariana Grande
Lady Gaga
Sheryl Crow
Chelsea Handler
Cher
Katie Couric
Jennifer Hudson
Connie Britton
Olivia Wilde
Willow Smith
Rita Ora

That’s a good list and I’m sure I’ve forgotten a few people. What was good about this is that for the most part, the children were “the stars” and the celebrities and adults were there to support the kids. They were there to ensure that the kids’ voices were heard everywhere in America and around the world.

  1. Jayna says:

Joshua Kushner was there. He had also donated money to the march.

    • Jamie says:

and misha collins leading all the supernatural fans!!

      • Nanny to the rescue says:

Jason Isaacs too, he posted a video on his Twitter.

But I think he was there as a civilian protesting, not as a celebrity speaking.

    • SK says:

The interesting thing about Joshua Kuchner being there is that I have seen people writing Karlie Kloss off for being his girlfriend because his brother and sister-in-law are Jared and Ivanka. However, to be fair to Joshua, he may have been born of a corrupt family with a silver spoon in his mouth, but he has always very clearly stated that he is a Democrat and that he was not going to and did not vote for Trump. I checked his instagram and he actually promoted the march in advance and said he would be there and then posted from the march as well. I think people need to be wary of tarring him and Karlie with the Trumpian brush – you can’t help who your family are. Good for him for not being afraid to stand up for what he believes in despite the fallout he probably gets from his brother.

On a different note, I love how extra Miley is about this stuff. She is really, truly passionate. She doesn’t just post one or two photos, she is promoting it hard, pushing kids to the front of many of her posts, working the rooms and meeting with and listening to them, etc. etc. Yes she is an attention-seeking celebrity but I really do feel that she tries her best with the issues that matter to her and gives her all to them.

Congrats to all the celebrities who supported the march. Congrats to the hundreds of thousands who got out there to ensure these kids were heard. But most of all, congrats to these incredibly brave kids. I hate that they went through this but I’m so proud of their incredible response in the face of massive assholery and nastiness not to mention the PTSD and grief they are undoubtedly suffering from (and some physical injuries too). They are utterly inspiring. Anyone who says a single negative word about them is completely cancelled for me.

      • OG OhDear says:

Joshua Kushner met with the Qatari finance minister for funding, so I wouldn’t defend him just yet.

That being said, congrats to the kids who organized and participated in the march,

      • otaku fairy says:

+1. Her own actions and the actions of her boyfriend’s brother are separate. I doubt Ivanka’s husband would seriously be moved by anything Karlie Kloss would have to say anyway. These are not reasonable people who are willing to listen. It’s good to see that this Joshua Kushner has his own mind (and heart) though. It’s another example of why ‘they were just following their husband’s lead’ isn’t a justification for any woman who voted Trump.

      • magnoliarose says:

Joshua is a Democrat, and Karlie made it clear she voted for Clinton. He said in an interview he loves his brother, but he doesn’t have to agree with him or even understand his motives.
The Kushners are staunch Dems. Whatever that is worth.

    • Jussayin says:

Jimmy Fallon and Noah Cyrus were at the march too

  2. Lily Randall says:

    Patti Smith

  3. Coccinellidae says:

I was really surprised when I saw Taylor Swift’s statement on instagram. She usually stays out of politics.

    • Lulu says:

Same here! I was actually shocked to see her Instagram post and where she clearly said she had donated and was pro gun reform … doubt that went down too well with some of her more conservative following.
But, I’m a Brit and this whole gun thing just honestly baffles me beyond belief 🤷🏻‍♀️

    • Iknowwhatboyslike says:

This is a youth movement and who makes up Taylor’s base? Young people. In this, I believe, there was little room for quietness when your fan base is getting gunned down in school.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

I wasn’t really, it’s was an obvs PR stunt given that Kim K was there in person (she and Kanye also donated a lot of money when it first happened). And yes I am that cynical about Tay Tay. Plus given her fan base it would have looked really bad if she hadn’t done anything.

  4. Justine says:

One thing surprised me ! What is Taylor Swift opinion ? To me it speaks volume that we don’t hear her on that subject !!

  5. Nancy says:

Amal looks so fresh and pretty. Sad to see Paul. Can imagine his feelings remembering how that crazy thug murdered John. Protests are important, people need to speak out against the never ending violence in the world. Will it make a difference? Oh Lord, I hope so.

    • Kitten says:

Amal looks stunning. I normally think she is an attractive woman but she looks amazing in these photos. I think it’s the toned-down makeup.
Also, I like that she dresses younger than her age. She can pull it off for sure.

      • Nancy says:

Ok, Kitten that makes me like her more since I gravitate to clothes that some might deem too young for an almost 39 year beotch…Ha! You’re absolutely spot on re the make-up, she looks younger and again the word “fresher” without it.

      • Kitten says:

“I gravitate to clothes that some might deem too young for an almost 39.”

Same, Nancy…partly because I just think a younger style suits me more. I’ve never been the type to look good in cardigans, straight-legged trousers or smart pantsuits, but holy hell I would wear the SH*T out of Amal’s outfit here. She and George looked really great–so happy together.

      • magnoliarose says:

She looks fantastic! She nearly glows.

      • Nancy says:

Me too! I’m that woman in the mall or restaurant that some blue haired lady whispers to her husband, I hate when those old babes try to look young….lol. Come on Kitten (and Magnoliarose!), 40 is the new 30 and the times have changed. We both could wear what Helen Mirren wears and vice versa. We are woman, hear us roar, or some bullshit like that!!!!

    • Pandy says:

Yes, came here to superficially post about how great Amal looks!!! Candid outdoor shots with no special lighting and she looks great!!!

  6. Erinn says:

Mark Hoppus from Blink182 and his family were there as well. The band actually started boycotting FedEx because of their stance on the matter.

I’m currently trying to decide if I want to drop 2k+ on flights/hotel/tickets to go see them.

    • justcrimmles says:

The adult in me says “if you can swing it, go for it.” The Travis Barker obsessed teenager in me is screaming “why haven’t you already bought the tickets and reserved travel accommodations, Erinn?!”

So yeah. If you need help deciding 😉

  7. Aang says:

I’m a little conflicted about this because I bet many of those stars had armed security following them. And I can see the gun rights people’s argument that if “liberal Hollywood elites” have armed protection why can’t they have guns to protect themselves? I’d hate to see personal security only available to the wealthy. On the flip side I’m sure those body guards are highly trained and vetted. Solution? Just require tons of training and very strict background checks to anyone wanting anything other than a basic shotgun. But I know the gun nuts will see that as a gross violation of their rights. Teachers having guns? No way. Armed police officers at school entrances? I hate the very idea of it, I would prefer no one have guns anywhere near a school, but in the reality in which we live it might save some lives.

    • Iknowwhatboyslike says:

But the March wasn’t for an outright ban on guns. They’re not asking for police officers, school security to not have guns. They’re asking for age restrictions, assault rifle bans to the public, that sort of thing. It’s far from hypocritical for license security to have guns and an 18 year old.

    • Esmom says:

But celebs only need armed security because…guns. It’s not hypocritical. The average citizen doesn’t typically get crazy stalkers like celebs do.

    • Merritt says:

People don’t want to take all the guns. We want what other countries have. A system that requires strict background checks, waiting periods, and training.

    • Nancy says:

Aang, now that’s some deep early morning thinking right there. He can have a gun, but she can’t. A teacher is armed and inadvertently shoots an innocent victim. I suppose they can try to put restrictions in force, and make it more difficult to have weapons….but as Michael Corleone said in The Godfather “if history has taught us anything, you can kill anyone.” Sad commentary, but it is not untrue. Abraham, Martin and John.

      • Mia4s says:

“I suppose they can try to put restrictions in force, and make it more difficult to have weapons”

Sigh….Hi from Canada @Nancy where we have lots of guns and a tiny fraction of your level of gun violence. So yes, restrictions work. Not 100% no, nothing is. But unless our waaaaay lower gun violence rates are due to us just being spectacularly better people or God loving Canada more: Restrictions work. So FFS…try!

      • Nancy says:

I get the creeps when people put my words in quotes! lol. Yeah, the US loves guns, and those weapons fall into the wrong hands on a regular. Maybe, hopefully, one day America will be like the rest of the world with better enforced weapon laws. With that being said, I wouldn’t leave America for anything. Even with trump, we are still the greatest, strongest country in the World. A lot of Canadians have migrated here. You can take back Pamela Anderson, jk…lol. It will take some time, but a change is coming. I love that the young people are on the streets trying to reclaim sanity. I feel like I should be waving the flag!

      • noway says:

One thing I can’t believe is being ignored in this last round of school violence is the whole story of what happened in Maryland last week. Yes there was a school shooting. However, it was in a state with pretty strict gun laws. In Maryland it is illegal to own most assault guns plus magazines are limited, and this law was passed after Sandy Hook. The shooter only had a hand gun, and this fact along with the SWAT trained security officer most likely helped to limit the injuries and deaths. Sadly one victim and the perpetrator still died, but better than 17. Unfortunately this may be the best we can do unless we can eliminate a lot more guns from our society.

It is odd how the other side espouses how a armed guard stopped this attack and armed teachers would be even better, and the only defense from the gun control side is he was a SWAT trained officer going in against a handgun, not an assault weapon. People forget at Columbine there was an armed school officer there, Va. Tech has a police force, and Parkland had an officer who didn’t go in. A teacher isn’t going to have better training to shoot a person or a student, not to mention the issues with more guns in a school. What if they aren’t secured just for a second. This idea is just crazy.

      • Lightpurple says:

@Noway, sorry but that’s a NRA argument put forth by both Dana Loesch and Colion Noir in a reprehensible video. The type of gun DOES make a difference and there is no indication the Maryland shooter intended to shoot more kids. He did manage to shoot and kill his intended target before the officer got him. Also, family members of the officer have been tweeting their support of the Parkland kids and stricter gun control laws.

    • Jamie says:

Do they actually have armed guards tho? I mean they travel thru many states, are conceal carry allow across state lines? I think its more reasonable for them to have tasers than guns. I have never heard of any celebrity body guard pulling a gun on anyone..

    • lightpurple says:

Columbine had an armed guard. So did Parkland. So did the school in Maryland where the killer still killed his intended victim.

    • magnoliarose says:

“Liberal Hollywood Elites” is a dog whistle for Jews. It is antisemitic. So when you hear that used, you can immediately understand who that person is and their ideology.
It is an insult and a slur.
I am sure they will trot out the others because you know we Jews plan to take over the world!
Watch for George Soros, a very wealthy left donor who is also a Holocaust Survivor. They use him to say the same thing. Their followers know what they mean.

So don’t buy that argument immediately. They are hysterical and trying everything because the tide and culture are changing and not in their direction.

Bringing up Chicago over and over is racist speak for black. Dog whistle.

  8. Mia4s says:

Of all the celebrities Paul McCartney’s presence was the one that resonated deeply. I saw the online reaction of a certain generation really get the wind knocked out of them when they saw and heard him. Simple comment but incredibly effective. All those comments about “out of touch celebrities with their high security” and here is one of the biggest celebrities of all time reminding that truly everyone is impacted by this madness. Well done Paul.

    • Digital Unicorn says:

Yes esp so considering he was very near the spot where Lennon was shot. But it would have been deliberate from Paul’s part to reinforce the message.

      • bananapanda says:

It was an eerie coincidence. CNN asked him about 3-5 questions and he cautiously added (toward the end) “you know a good friend of mine was killed near here”. It wasn’t clear that the CNN crew (who is pretty young) realized what he was alluding to but probably knew it later on.

    • paddingtonjr says:

Hopefully politicians of a certain age will be reminded of that awful day when Lennon was gunned down in front of his home and family without provocation. It might be the touchstone they need to realize a change has to come.

    • hmmm says:

His quiet presence and stark response were perfect. Powerfully moving.

  9. lightpurple says:

    Jennifer Grey and Clark Gregg

  10. Mia4s says:

There were pictures of Christian Bale and his family at a march in Los Angeles. I remember how admirably he reacted after the Aurora shooting so it doesn’t surprise me he’d be interested in this cause.

  11. paddingtonjr says:

Bob Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots, flew Parkland students and families to the march in DC on the team plane. I hate to support the Pats, but credit where credit is due…..

    • Kitten says:

Surprised this wasn’t covered on this blog…hmmmm…

    • Lightpurple says:

Kraft did so at the personal request of Gabby Giffords and her husband, who identified themselves as longtime friends in their Thank You and indicated that Kraft has helped them in the past.

    • Lightpurple says:

One of the parents released a copy of the lovely letter Kraft left on each seat with a Patriots hat.

  12. Ayra. says:

Selena Gomez was there.. her IG caption irritated me knowing what she said and reducing BLM to just a hashtag.

On another note, I’m happy Paul showed up, his comment was important. Jennifer Hudson too. Both had personal experiences with gun violence.

  13. Tiffany says:

The kids who spoke, spectacular. I am so damn proud of the future.

Certain celebs who participated, serious side eye and I will leave it at that.

    • French Girl says:

Many celebs simply marched. They didn’t talk publicly.Grande,McCartney,Schumer,Hudson or Bale’s participation are touching because they were touched by shouting dramas directly or indirectly

  14. Chickadee says:

Tom Colicchio (Top Chef) was there. He mentioned it in a tweet.

    • Nancy says:

Tom is so cool. Glad he was there. You expect to see the regulars, but it’s nice when we’re all in it together.

  15. Totally old says:

Tony award winning Ben Platt performed with Lin-Manuel Miranda.

  16. Anon33 says:

Superficial comment…I scrolled right by silver fox Clooney!! Not sure how I feel about that look…otherwise, the events of this weekend went a long way to restoring some of my faith in this country.

    • megs283 says:

Another superficial comment 🙂 Amal looks beautiful without her usual heavy makeup. I actually thought it was Anne Hathaway (and thought she looked better than usual).

    • Jayna says:

      I thought he looked great.

    • tracking says:

I thought he looked better than I’ve seen him in a long time. They both looked great, happy and in sync.

      • Jayna says:

When do you think we’ll see the twins? I can’t remember when they were born. I think sometime in June. By their first birthday? Too soon?

      • Kelly says:

I hope we don’t see them for a long time. The very fact that I just tried to google the twins and got several different children, including dolls (!) shows that it’s possible for top tier celebrities to keep their children private. I didn’t remember their names, don’t know their nicknames, habits, or favorite toys, etc. It’s not necessary to periodically release pics of your kids to keep the paps at bay.

      • tracking says:

They’re still less than a year old, around 9 months I think. My guess is George won’t be above relaying the occasional funny anecdote, but that he and Amal will try to protect their privacy as much as they can, as long as they can. At least I hope so.

    • jetlagged says:

I am loving Silver Fox Clooney! Also loving the letter he wrote to the Parkland students. “You make me proud of my country again.” Couldn’t agree more.

  17. littlebird says:

zendaya was at the dc march! somebody tweeted a really funny photo of the crowd with her just completely unaware it was being taken & she has BEST look on her face. i’m pretty sure she quote tweeted it.

  18. Lila says:

A million or so young people marched in DC, and elsewhere with celebrities like Cher, Ariana Grande, & so many other famous people, but these brave, articulate, broken hearted kids were the stars of the show. I was happy not to hear some empty speech by a politician or celebrity. I also loved hearing the entire Trump family, ran out of the Washington with many GOP Senators and Congressmen following close behind.

  19. Lucy says:

Good for all of them. Paul’s statement was simple yet so moving.

  20. SM says:

Blah. As someone who gets a pleasure and much needed break by reading about celebrities, this time the celebrities are the least interesting part.

    • Nancy says:

If it weren’t for the famous names, there would be little, if any, coverage. The bigger the names, the bigger the news and opportunity to wake up the dead.

      • perplexed says:

I think this still would have been covered, even without the celebrities, because of the size of the rallies. A lot of people are paying attention to the kids who are very well-spoken.

  21. Meeee says:

Lauren Jauregui from Fifth Harmony was in D.C.

  22. Jayna says:

I swear, that’s the prettiest I’ve ever seen Amal, more natural, less makeup. Her hair seems a little looser. Actually, her hair is super long. I just noticed that.

It seems like she’s had such a look of contentment during her pregnancy and after the twins were born the times she’s been photographed.. Her skin looks great in these photos.

  23. Happygolooker says:

Casey Affleck and his gf Floriana Lima were there as well.

    • magnoliarose says:

Just because he is a creep doesn’t mean he doesn’t believe in gun control.

  24. K says:

Adam Scott, Paul Rudd, Aubrey Plaza (with other “Parks & Rec” people) were there

  25. Lancer says:

I guess Amal Clooney’s arms dealing uncle, Ziad Takieddine, couldn’t make it from France for the gun control protest, then? Such a shame. He asked the French for conditional release to attend the Clooney wedding so they must all be close but, hey, maybe for the their next personal fake PRogressives extravaganza, the Clooneys can start a little closer to home? I mean, there’s no doubt that TSwift and Kimye are phony af but at least they’re not scamming decent people at the Clooney level, ffs.
