Twilight v. True Blood battle continues; Stephen Moyer calls Anna Paquin ‘hardcore’

Last week, we reported on True Blood’s star vampire Stephen Moyer’s interview with Marie Claire. In the interview, Moyer seemed funny and charming as he discussed his girlfriend and costar Anna Paquin and how awesome his vampire character Bill is. But then Moyer totally escalated The Epic Battle of Vampire Supremacy when he called Robert Pattinson’s Edward “a p-ssy” and “the slim-Fast, Diet Coke of vampires.” Suddenly, everyone who ever got their mom to buy them black lipstick had to chime in about vampires, sex with vampires, kissing vampires, Joan Jett, and Diet Coke.

Several sources noted the escalation in The Vampire War, but I found MTV’s take particularly funny. MTV actually got “man on the street” interviews, random New Yorkers to comment about vampires. God, I love New York. Here are some of my favorite comments:

“‘True Blood’ because it’s so much better,” one fan told us on the New York streets. “‘Twilight’ is the cheesy version of ‘True Blood.’ [The vampires] are scary and bad, but you still love them.”

Another fan, Sarah, added that “True Blood” is better because it’s “a little bit more mature.” Her friend, Marie, hasn’t seen “True Blood,” but having read both Harris’ and Meyer’s novels, she prefers “Twilight.” ” ‘Twilight’ the movie is awesome,” Marie added.

Sarah opted for Bill. “He seems older and mature,” she told us. Meanwhile her buddy, Marie, explained why she’d go for Edward: “The hair!” she said. “Vampire Bill in the book isn’t that cool.”

In added Stephen Moyer news, he recently gave an interview to Access DirecTV magazine (story via People). Moyer fails to follow through on the whole “Robert Pattinson can drink my bloody milkshake” stuff, but Moyer does say sweet stuff about Anna Paquin – he seems thrilled that he won a girl who is so “hardcore”.

A couple that boxes together, stays together?

At least, according to True Blood’s Stephen Moyer – the brooding Brit who plays Southern vampire Bill Compton and throws punches with costar and real-life love Anna Paquin.

“When I was a boy I loved boxing,” he tells Access DirecTV magazine in its July issue of his off-screen pastime. “And I’ve got Anna into it.”

Of their love for the brutal hobby, Moyer adds, “I like the sport and she likes the blood. I’m like, ‘Stop the fight, people are getting hurt, I can’t bear it!’ and she’s going, ‘Go on, hit ’em!’ She loves it. She boxes too.”

But can chivalrous vampire Bill beat telepathic cutie Suki in the ring?

“No way!” he says. “She won’t stop until she’s gnawed your stumps off. I tell you, my girl is hardcore.”

[From People]

Moyer and Paquin seem so cute together. Well, “cute” meaning “I bet Anna nails that to the wall every night and then some”. They seem like such a sexy couple, and it’s good to see Anna find such a cool guy. Do you think Moyer and Paquin box as foreplay? I bet they do – and I bet Robert “Diet Coke” Pattinson and Kristen “Joan Jett” Stewart don’t. Advantage: True Blood.

Here’s Anna Paquin and Stephen Moyer at the True Blood season 2 cast party at TABU in Las Vegas on May 2nd. Images thanks to WENN.com .

If they are suppose to be so wonderful, then why is this guy pulling out all of this nonsense for publicity.

If you’re that good, the fans will come.

Love Anna, but this guy comes across as a douche.

  2. Annie says:

Well it IS on HBO, so it’s a tad harder to gain a widespread audience.

That being said, LOVE the show and would HATE for it to move to primetime or something. If it did, it’d go from an hour to 20 minutes if you cut out all the “unsuitable” stuff. LOL

Anna Paquin is wicked hardcore, so many scenes with her like lapping up blood and getting all sorts of gross stuff all over here.

Saw him on Conan, have decided that I ADORE him. His accent is DREAMY and it’s amazing how he just switches from Stephen to Bill at the drop of the hat. And he strikes me as sweet, genuine, honest and real. LOVE IT.

  3. efc2 says:

AUGH Anna Paquin’s character in True Blood is named SOOKIE, not SUKI! SUKI is Japanese for ‘Love’, Sookie is (presumably) Southern. Plus, Suki in Japanese is pronounced “Ski”, since they gloss over vowels. AUGH! Five seconds on Wikipedia would have solved this problem lol

  4. ! says:

They both suck. Anne Rice for the win. Lestat would hand all their asses to them.

  5. TexasGal says:

I love Stephen Moyer but how about we talk about Alexander Skarsgard more? Every time his scenes come out I always have to fight the urge to hump my tv screen!

  6. dg says:

Whenever celebrities talk about their relationships in public, then there are 2 reasons for it: publicity or something’s wrong in that relationship.

If Robert and Kristen are a couple than I give them respect for not parading their relationship in public like all the other couples.

  7. dovesgate says:

    LMAO @ !

Oh hell yeah. Lestat is definitely the ultimate Brat Prince. However, Stephen Moyer is pretty damn sexy as a vampire. “Vampire Bill” could sink his teeth in me any old time he wanted.

  8. ! says:

Lestat would like, make you fall in love with him, turn you into a vampire, then abandon you to sob in your sarcophagus for all eternity. Or he might rip off your head and drop kick it into the sun. Whatever he feels like that day.

  9. Annie says:

Having read many an Anne Rice book. I actually have to disagree sometimes.

Sometimes her characters were flat, her grammar atrocious and her story flow absolutely non-sensical. Some of her works seemed like ripoffs of her earlier works and frankly, while I loved reading her as a teenager, as I got older, I realized, she wasn’t all that original…though she makes for good Vampire-rotica. (And Mayfair witch business too!)

I think she’s pretty overrated. Though not as overrated as Stephenie Meyer, who’s an absolutely atrocious writer.

  10. I says:

Yah i like the idea about talking about Alex Skargard… I mean sexiest man of sweeden five times

  11. Hieronymus Grex says:

Those crooked chipmunk teeth that girl is sporting is definitely hardcore.

  12. Iggles says:

    I like Vampire Eric more!

True Blood wins hands down! Twilight lost me when Stephanie Meyer made her vampires able to walk in daylight. That’s one vampire myth that you need to keep!

  13. dovesgate says:

Meyer lost me at the glitter. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve read all the Twilight books. I’ll read Breaking Dawn when it comes out. I just prefer pretty much any other vampire story to that series.

And in the books, Eric has it going on. In the t.v. series, I’m holding out to see how this season goes.

@Annie The Vampire Lestat is my favorite of the Rice vampire novels. After that, they started going a bit downhill.

  14. vale says:

fyi, suki is like, not love. love is aishteru.

  15. laure says:

trueblood is so much better than twilight for people over 20!more complex, more mature and more sexy!

  16. Annie says:

Agreed on Lestat, though the book version, not the craptastic Cruise version.

And like I said, I’ve read MANY Rice books.

All the Mayfair witches about Lasher and all the Vamp chronicles. Etc. etc. But meh.

  17. Patrice says:

Ok, so I’ll be the first to admit that Anna has been looking very sexy lately (most likely due to some work), but these two are starting to make me sick already. They’re a relatively new “celeb” couple, but the way they’ve been carrying on to the press about one another, you’d think they WANT to be the new Heidi and Spencer or something. (Only made sadder by the fact that Stephen is a father of two who is almost 40!) Give it a rest.

  18. HashBrowns says:

The chick’s name is Sookie. I have no idea where it comes from but it isn’t Suki.

Anywho, Twilight sucks balls. The movie was adorable. Quite vampire-lite. Which is appropriate for the books and I enjoyed it.

However for a more “true to the myths” type vampires, True Blood does a better job.

And Stephen Moyer is gorgeous. I didn’t know they were a couple until just now…perhaps he’s been talkign about her in print but I’ve seen his interviews on Jimmy Fallon and Conan and he didn’t say a single word about her.

  19. orion70 says:

she’s looking awfully thin. and for some reason this couple gives me the icks, mostly due to him.

I also never noticed that gap in her teeth. *stares at it*

  20. Because I Say So says:

Apropos of teeth: I once heard that a gap in one’s front teeth meant that the person was very sexually adventurous. Recent examples: Madonna, Sandra Bernhardt, Dennis Rodman….and possibly Anna Paquin?

I think they’re hot together. Their chemistry when I watched the first episode in the first season just blew me away.

  21. malena says:

gap in the teeth has nothing to do with sexual activities, an abnormal low maxillary labial fraenum is the reason for that.

anyhow kristin and robert couldn’t discuss their relationship over the glossies because they have none except friendship, so discussing it would have been boring.

i would say that twilight caters more for the younger crowd-teens and tweens where you would find cheesy lines and cheesy scenes. i prefer true blood though which is more a bit edgy.

  22. argirl says:

FYI- Breaking Dawn came out a while ago.

  23. I think True blood is a good TV series and enjoyable. It is much better than Twilight and many aspects.

  24. Tony Barker says:

I think trueblood hands down beats twilight. Maybe its because I am a Southerner! I am also older too.
To the post above I believe Sookie is just a made up name. I personally have never met a Sookie nor have I ever heard that name before. All I have to say is what about that song. Bad Things by Jace Everett. Great Video too! I just love how we keep adding to the fire here.
